I had two private lessons with Leandro in Tamarindo as an intermediate surfer and both were excellent. He skipped the gimmicky basics and focused on actually progressing me to the next stage, getting me surfing the face of the wave instead of just going straight. He also shared a lot of theory, which I appreciated: he’s a nerd like me and very precise, so we got on well. He’s meticulous about conditions and made sure we always got in when they were good, which at times meant giving me a longer lesson than I’d paid for. He also still sends me tips remotely after the lessons, which says a lot. Highly recommend, especially if you’re past the beginner stage and want to actually improve rather than just be pushed into whitewater.

My boys shared an instructor and I had one. Professional, fun, and encouraging. They made the last minute decision to try surfing every easy and I was able to stand in less than an hour. My two boys (8 and 10) had been doing some other surf lessons through the week and both said these instructors did more actual teaching and explaining as well as being encouraging. It was a very cool and fun experience and I’d certainly recommend this option if you want to learn to surf.

I absolutely loved my surf lessons with Leandro. As someone who has been doing kitesurfing for years, I know that many people can surf well but can’t really teach — and Leandro is the opposite. His way of explaining technique and theory is amazing, and once you get into the water, everything suddenly makes sense. Beyond being a great professional, I also really appreciated his mindset and approach to surfing. I feel very lucky to have learned from him. Highly recommend, and if I come back to Costa Rica, I will definitely surf with Leandro again.

We had a very large group for surfing; however, it didn’t feel that way! From check-in, to lessons and surfing we were all doing something. Our instructors were patient and thorough! I took three surf lessons with Leandro, and as someone who arrived with zero surfing experience, I had an incredible time. His passion for surfing is obvious in the way he teaches. He is energetic, patient, and makes the entire experience enjoyable from beginning to end. The classroom portion was informative and surprisingly entertaining. Once we got into the water, I felt completely comfortable because his instructions were clear and supportive. I brought my sister for the third lesson, and she also had an amazing experience. Everyone at the surf shop was extremely friendly. They provide sunscreen, rash guards, coffee, and water, which is a thoughtful touch. They also have lockers for your belongings and showers for after your session, which makes everything very convenient. I returned a few times after my lessons to rent a board. The rentals were very inexpensive, and the staff was incredibly helpful when choosing a board. They even gave me pointers on where to go. I will definitely be coming back next year to finish the remaining lessons. Highly recommended.

You simply cannot beat Leandro. Only surfer instructor in Tamarindo that’s internationally certified and is obsessed with teaching. It’s not his hobby, this is his life. His lessons are 2 to 3 hours long starting in his studio with a balance board to make sure you have the right technique along with theory. The kids loved it. We own here and he’s the only guy to go to - period. One friend said it was the best day of her life - I think that says it all.

Leandro was an amazing instructor, had me riding waves in no time and kept challenging me with harder progressions. He loves to surf and teaches it well.

We had so much fun learning to surf with Leandro. The place was easy to find! Leandro is so animated and kind and really cheered on my kids as they were surfing. He helps make sure you can get up by pushing the boards. We were out for a good length of time, about an hour and half in the water. Thanks Club 33 for a fun surfing day!

We had an amazing surf lesson that was so good we decided to do another one the next day! The lesson started off in a classroom with science and technical basics that gave us a great foundation to build on. The lesson was interactive and we felt great going into the water. The technique was different than how any of us had learned before but we felt like it worked much better than the way other instructors taught. Rash guards, sunscreen, and board were included. We had plenty of time in the water and got pdfs of everything we learned afterwards so we can apply it later. This is the only Surf Lesson in Tamarindo you should take!

I can highly recommend Surf Everyday Academy/Club 33 Surf in Tamarindo for lessons, and Leandro as an instructor. My 10 year old daughter Kiki and I took 3 lessons with Leandro and improved immensely with his skillful coaching on many topics that were never addressed in our previous surf lessons (and years of surf camps) in NY and Puerto Rico! He teaches in a private room, with slide shows that show exactly the mechanics and physical needs to ride a wave from beginner onwards, and then takes you out to surf. To say you are getting a multi-level, sophisticated education on climate, form, endurance, and general 360 reading of your environment is an understatement. Everyone who works at the surf shop is very warm with great energy (especially Maria), and we’ll be coming back- Pura Vida!

The most informative surfing lesson I've had. I learned new techniques for popping up, gained a better understanding through a classroom lesson before even going out to the water and actually caught a couple waves instead of just surfing straight into the shore. Enjoyed the first days lesson so much and signed up to return the next day and learn how to better read the waves and understand timing and positioning. I highly recommend!

Leandro is a very great instructor and taught us the basics to get us on our boards on the water and ride some waves. The theory classes were also very helpful to understand the physics and science behind the sport.

Leandro is a great teacher. He really knows how to explain concepts well by combining physics, psychology and sports science all together. After our first lesson, we had such a great time that we returned 2 more times within the same week. Most of my family have taken surf lessons multiple times in Tamarindo, as well as Hawaii and Tofino. This surf school blew them all out of the water! Their approach is totally different. They teach a surfing stance that was brand new to all of us. One which is used by professional surfers and focuses heavily on stability and balance. And there is an actual dry land portion to the lesson. Where you not only learn the theory of why their approach works, but you actually compare it to the stance all the other schools teach. The results…my nine year old, who had never surfed before, was up on the board and surfing up to the shore, from her second attempt! My 17 year old, who was familiar with the typical traditional surfing school approach - but struggled beyond a few seconds of being upright, was also surfing up to the beach!! Don’t waste time with other schools. Once you try this one, you’ll understand why.

Leandro who runs the lessons out of his Club 33 shop, is just a great teacher and guide to Tamarindo surfing! We are a family of 5. All of us learned a ton from his lesson, and we had a fantastic time in the water. Would have taken 5 lessons if we could have.

Very nice group! Learned about surfing and the waves, they are very knowledgeable and kind. We rented boards from them on other days, they helped to choose the best beach for that day. Would diffidently return and use them again!

To say Leandro was an amazing and attentive instructor would be an understatement! I have done surfing classes in Hawaii, Bali and even other ones in Costa Rica, but nothing comes close to the way Leandro teaches. If you’re looking to truly learn or improve then he’s your guy. He goes over the science of surfing and the waves in a way no one has ever explained. And then on top of all that his positive energy is so uplifting and contagious! He is a source of amazing Pura Vida energy! I did a class with Kevin as well and he was also very friendly, attentive, and just good vibes all around.

Leo was so inspiring. Rarely met someone that passionate in what they do. Very spiritual and patient. Take the necessary time to explain the practice but as well making sure you are executing safe move and having a lot of fun. One of the highlight of the trip.

It was so fun I had to extend my trip so I had more days to surf! It was well worth it and I would definitely recommend to give it a try!

Leandro was a great communicator, extremely gracious and helpful, always quickly answering my questions. He also arranged a photographer to be present for a very reasonable fee. He had parking at his shop, and offered us water and coffee when our lesson began in his classroom. We had never surfed before so we didn't know what to expect. It quickly became apparent he was very knowledgeable, not merely on the sport itself, but the science and theories behind it, and sports science in general. The board stance he taught seemed counterintuitive at first, but he quickly backed it up with photos of professionals, and (with us on a board) easily demonstrated the logic behind it, and all became clear. The classroom session lasted a little over an hour but I was never bored. His passion for the sport was infectious. When it was time to hit the beach, he provided lockers, rash guards and heavy duty sun screen for our faces. As we took our boards to Witches Rock, he shared his love for the ocean and its beneficial affects for body and mind. We practiced getting up into surfing stance on our boards on the beach, and then took to the water. This was late November and there were 4 of us in his class so it felt like a private lesson. Being complete novices, he helped us position before the waves and gave us a push at the proper time. Despite never surfing before, myself and my 2 teenage boys were able to ride a wave after only a few attempts, my youngest I believe on his second attempt. All the while, he continued to encourage and coach us in the water, even when I was exhausted. When our lesson came to an end, he let us keep our boards to continue the hunt for waves, and we enjoyed the sunset on playa Tamarindo. When we were thoroughly exhausted, we returned to his shop and he greeted us again so warmly with water, coffee, and showers to rinse. He also allowed us time to shop his very cool designs even though I think he was trying to close up. I think there were some other instructors, and everyone in his shop were extremely friendly. It's also a great location and the charges for the lesson and what we received in return were more than fair. Tamarindo had a great vibe and we loved Costa Rica. More than anything, Leandro taught us the meaning of "Pura Vida" through his behavior, teachings and spirit, and I will never forget it. I hope to return and see him again someday. 🤙🇨🇷

Leandro is the best teacher in the world. If you actually want to learn how to improve your surfing, get a lesson from him. I took a lesson from him 3 years ago when I was just beginning and he helped me become independent enough to go catch waves on my own. Since then, I have been to many different countries and surfed all over the place. I've also taken many lessons, but none even come close to learning from Leandro. I just returned to Tamarindo with my girlfriend and went to see him again. Not only did he help push me to the next level of surfing with an awesome surf skate lesson, but he also helped my girlfriend learn the basics and overcome her fear to surf for the first time (she was terrified - but of course she loved it). Unlike most instructors that I've seen, he is actually committed to your improvement and understanding of what you are doing. He is NOT the type of teacher to just paddle out with you and push you into whitewash. Thank you for being who you are Leandro!! You are the best! 🤙🏻

I had surf lessons last week. It was one hour of one on one class learning and instructions, then we went to the beach across the street. I didn’t think anything until I got in the water and the wave comes. I felt courage. A week later and I am still thinking about that feeling. The instructor is impressive. Not just the way he put words together, but his background on paper. He is beyond certified and extremely professional. He was very clear with directions and I stood on the board every time, just like we talked about. I remember thinking about my stamina, but getting the encouragement to try one more. Then there’s excitement when I got better each time. I thought maybe my age might be a factor, but in the end I don’t have that kind of doubt anymore. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting. I will also go back to take another lesson in the future.

This is the ultimate experience, the atmosphere was super friendly and profesional at the same time, I learned a lot in a couple classes And I feel like I was able to break a lot of bad habits I had in my surfing, all thanks to understanding how the body works on the wave. Eternally grateful, my love for surfing was born from these lessons.
