Surf Lesson In Tamarindo - Stand Up Or Your Money Back!

We had an amazing surfing lesson at Tamarindo Beach! The instructors were incredibly patient, encouraging, and took the time to make sure everyone felt comfortable in the water. Their clear instructions and positive attitude made learning to surf both fun and stress-free. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your skills, I highly recommend this team. Thanks to their guidance, we were able to catch waves and have an unforgettable experience in Costa Rica!

Carlos and his instructors were amazing. Trying out surfing in my 50's for the first time was not an easy decision for me. We had a group of 7 ladies with no one having surfed before. All of the instructors we supportive and were encouraging us all. My personal instructor Renaldo was patient, kind and seemed genuinely excited that I was able to stand up. I definitely recommend these guys and would absolutely do it again with them.

We were a group of 7 women ages 27-56 and every single one of us was able to stand up on the surfboard thanks to the wonderful and patient instructors! Many in our group said it was the highlight of their trip! Highly recommend this experience!

Absolutely perfect experience for our kids to try surfing. They did private lessons, both instructors were amazing, and they were up on the board on their first try on a wave. Communication was great, everyone was warm and welcoming + professional, and it was money and time very well spent. Would def do again.

Juan Carlos and Palmer were so patient and attentive. We had individual attention given to us and stood up on our boards, not once, not twice but many times! These guys are very family friendly.

Wonderful surf school. Isabella and Carlos were both super helpful getting me set up, organising a taxi for me from Coco and making me feel super welcomed as a solo traveller. My teacher, Steven, was hilarious, instructive and made me feel calm and safe. I learnt more from him than I have in a decade of surfing. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Tamarindo. Great experience. They were easy to find and we both got up and rode the waves. They knew just which area of the beach would have the best waves for beginners and more experienced surfers. If we come back, we will use them again. The instruction and knowledge of the beach was excellent. Avoid buying smoothies on the beach though, one smoothie and two bottles of water was $50 US. The area does price gouge tourists on food, etc. a travel size stick of deodorant was $10 US.

We were using another surf company on the same beach as this one. Our experience with our surf company was incredible! Unfortunately, while we were on the beach, one of the instructors at this company was extremely rude to us! If he had been our instructor, we would have left and found another company to use!

Great experience. All five people in our group were able to stand-up by the end with most of us able to stand up and ride several waves over the lesson. Would definitely recommend.

We were really impressed with this experience start to finish! The host contacted us via text two days prior with instructions and asked if we had any questions. Carlos was ready for us when we got there. He was really thorough with instructions. My kids are 8, 10 and 12 and they felt a little lost at the beginning but once we got on boards in the sand they learned quickly. Carlos wanted to be sure we all had a good time and grabbed three additional instructors for our group. He assigned one to our 8yo son and one for my 10 and 12yo, and one for my husband and I. I loved that my kids had one on one help and attention for safety. My 8yo got up on his board before the rest of us even got out to the water!!!! His instructor was so patient and good with him, and he even had him jumping to turn positions on top of the board!! We all got up on the boards several times. We got a good hour of board time. Carlos stayed on shore and took tons of photos for us with a telephoto lens. We paid extra for the photos but it wasn’t a big deal because the cost of surfing for five of us was so affordable. Start to finish everyone was so hospitable, professional and kind. We absolutely loved this excursion and highly recommend!!!!

Carlos was an amazing teacher and looked out for everyone in his group. A true coach, he was constantly scanning for safety and better technique in all the students. He took his time and made sure those that were not quite as quick to get the form to slow down, make them feel like they were getting a true 1:1 experience. And good vibes!

Communication ahead of time was clear and helpful. Instruction and support during the actual lesson was perfect. Instructors were so positive. Would 1000% use them again!

Our family of five wanted to try surfing lessons during our visit to Costa Rica and we were excited to try La Muda! It was easy to find from our drive from Playa Conchal, the directions on the trip advisor page were perfect. There is parking onsite for $6. Carlos was a patient instructor, explaining everything to us first timers multiple times on shore before getting into the water. We each were assigned basically a private instructor once we got in the water to tell us when to stand up and provide feedback. Our kids, ages 12, 12 and 9 picked it up immediately and had a blast. I struggled more to stand up but my instructor, Caleb, was incredibly encouraging and patient. When I finally got up, it was a celebration! Carlos was onshore capturing fantastic pictures of our family. Overall, we had a great experience and would 100% do this again with La Muda if we’re ever back in Tamarindo! Thank you to Carlos, Caleb, Isabella and everyone who made our morning so fun and memorable!

Carlos at La Muda was recommended to us by a local. I found the business phone number and was able to easily book directly with them the night before. The instructions on where and when to meet were easy to follow. Carlos did an excellent job coaching us on the land, and then sent us out to the water with competent instructors. Four out of five of us got up on the board within a few tries and it was no fault of the instructors that the fifth one struggled some. Would highly recommend this school and if we are ever back in Tamarindo we will find Carlos for more lessons. It was a great addition that Carlos was on the beach taking photos of our family as we were out in the water. Superb value for the 2-hour lesson and the pictures.

Everyone at La Muda Surf was incredibly kind! Everyone in our group was able to stand up despite it being our first time! We were also late to our reservation and they were very accommodating. They also took very cool pictures of us!

I originally booked a group session for my husband and me, but after he suffered an ankle injury, I decided to go ahead on my own. It turned out I was the only one booked for that time slot! I was a complete beginner, but Carlos and Juan Carlos did an excellent job explaining the safety measures and making sure I had a fun-filled time. They even captured some beautiful photos of me. Overall, it was a fantastic experience!

My friend and I had such a wonderful experience with La Muda! They made our first time surfing such an easy and smooth experience. We were very nervous going into it but the knowledge and kindness of all the instructors was amazing. It was also very easy to find on the beach with Isabella’s instructions. We had so much fun!! This was our first time surfing and the instructors were absolutely incredible. I stood up on my first try! My boyfriend and I each stood up about 15 times during the lesson. We had an amazing experience at La Muda! The team was incredibly kind, encouraging, and made learning the basics of surfing feel approachable and fun. Carlos did a great job teaching us the fundamentals on land, and Maikol was fantastic in the water. Maikol was very supportive and knew exactly when we were ready to try bigger waves, which helped us build confidence quickly. We were able to get up much faster than expected thanks to their guidance. Overall, it was an amazing experience with a great team, and we highly recommend it!

Great experience! My partner and I are complete beginners and had a excellent time. The instructor was clear, friendly, and helpful. They provided long sleeve shirts for us both, and watched our things while we were in the water. The instructor offered to stay longer than the allotted time if I wanted to catch more waves. If we weren't leaving the area, we would definitely go back for more lessons. They were the best price compared to 4 others.

It was so much fun!! We went in May and I got to practice my Spanish with Chino, and couldn’t stop laughing. The sun wasn’t too bright and there were tons of great waves. My boyfriend and I had a great time for our first lesson and 1000% recommend booking this lesson. Puda Vida!!

Highly recommend Michael who was extremely patient and encouraging knowing it was my first time surfing. He made me feel very confident in myself and constantly gave me corrections/advice that allowed me to improve quickly.

We are a family of 4 (10- and 13-year-old boys) who had never surfed before. The instructors were super patient and informative...and best of all we all got up (most of us many times). Detailed dry land lesson, 1 instructor per surfer in the water, very beginner friendly! Got up plenty of times with my partner. Was a blast! Expect to be sore the next day.

Carlos and his team at La Muda surf were amazing. Our kids (11, 13 and 15) were standing up and having a blast almost right away. You could tell th people who skipped the lesson because they were falling constantly and not having fun. Carlos speak excellent English and covered all of the safety and surfing instructions perfectly. It was especially fun when the instructors cheered our kids on when they had a great run! I could not recommend Carlos and La Muda surf more highly! One of the best things we did in all of Costa Rica!

Carlos and his team were phenomenal! My 3 kids (11-15) learned to surf very quickly and safely and had an absolute blast! It was fun to watch the surf instructors cheer them on when they stood up and had a good ride. Carlos also speaks excellent English and my kids understood every word of both the safety and surfing instructions. Literally with 20 minutes of beginning the lesson, they were up on their feet surfing. Really you shouldn't try surfing or let your kids try surfing without taking a lesson from Carlos and La Muda. Watching other people, you could easily tell which people skipped lessons. They had the wrong stance and fell constantly. That would not be fun. I could not recommend La Muda surf more. Really the best experience we had in Costa Rica.

AMAZING experience! My 2 teens (13, 15) were both able to get up on the boards and had an absolute blast. Spent about 20 minutes before getting in the water, so time surfing was around 1.5 hrs.
