Fun night of hiking in the dark! We saw lots of creepy crawlies! My husband really enjoyed how knowledgeable Leo was. I wish I had gotten more photos but I was definitely in the moment.

Itinerary
Discover the extraordinary wildlife that shows up at night in the jungle! Based in Tamarindo, we will have the pleasure of greeting you at our office. From there you will drive up to the jungle with your multilingual guide. We will provide quality headlights and private transport if necessary (extra cost). During two hours you will explore and search for nocturnal wildlife in a protected dry forest which is the last one in the Tamarindo area, located only 15 minutes from the town. Ecosystem: The Pacific tropical dry forest is a unique and fascinating ecosystem that dominates the northwestern part of Costa Rica. This distinctive type of forest is adapted to long dry seasons and sheds its leaves during arid times to conserve water, giving it a distinct appearance. Due to these challenging conditions, it represents a remarkable adaptation of life to seasonal changes and provides an essential habitat rich in biodiversity, hosting numerous plant and animal species, most of which can't be found anywhere else in the country. Are you ready to explore the darkness and have an unforgettable Face to Face?

Leo, is a passionate guide and very knowledgeable it was so lovely to learn from him about all the creatures that were on our path on this walk . Great activity, for solo, duo or group. It's also a very accessible tour that is easy to walk so kids are welcomed. This type of activity is unpredictable so you might or might not see the specific animals you wanted to see - but you will still have a good time no matter what and discover some you weren't even thinking of.
We had a great tour! Would absolutely recommend this experience to everyone!! He is extremely knowledgeable!
Very knowledgeable and kind! Leo told us about all the critters and animals we saw and is very passionate about what he does.
Me and my boyfriend did this tour, our guide Leo was very knowledgeable about all the little creatures surrounding us. We saw: tarantulas ( baby and mature), tarantula hawk, bats, birds, stink bugs, stick bugs, a millions wolf spiders, daddy long legs, giant crickets, giant cockroach, giant moth, yellow tree frog, milk frog, tailless whip scorpion, leaf cutter ants ( carrying pieces of leaves), ant lions, and more. It was a lot of fun. We were in a group of 6 and it lasted for about 2 hours.
Leo was a phenomenal guide who spotted creatures with otherworldly ease. He was terrific in sharing knowledge about different species and couldn't have been friendlier.
Had a good tour with Leo - he was really knowledgeable and kept us safe as we ventured into the forest in the dark! He had a great eye to spot some of the rarer animals and bugs that come out at night... and he gave us great tips to keep our whole group safe. We saw tarantulas, toads, frogs, giant cockroaches, a snake, lizards, and many different types of ants. His english and french were both very good, but I wished that our group was a bit smaller so that we could hear everything he was saying. You don't want to talk too loud in the forest, because it scares the animals away.
We took our 14 y/o creepy-crawly lover on the hike with Leo and she loved it! She was surprised by how much we did end up seeing only 12 minutes from our AirBnB in Tamarindo. There was another family and a couple also on the tour with us and Leo was really good with their 5 year-old too. We saw tons of spiders (but don't worry, they all froze and didn't actually come near us), some tiny snakes, scorpions, turtle, etc. and as always, it's amazing how much a guide spots that we would never see on our own. And for those that are bug-magnets, I didn't get one mosquito bite, which can always make or break things for me if I'm being honest.
We had a great time with Leo! It was a fun to step out of Tamarindo and appreciate the incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica. We traveled with my mother-in-law and 5-year-old son - both easily navigated the walk. We saw spiders, different incredible bugs, scorpions, snakes, turtles, birds, possums, and frogs all hiding in plain sight. Leo has incredible knowledge and passion nature. Our son loved it!
Wonderful night time experience! Didn’t let the rain stop us! Lots of insects and creatures of the night. Leo is extremely knowledgeable and just as excited as I was to see what was out there.
They confirmed our trip 2 weeks in advance. They cancelled less than a week before we were scheduled. No reason given. When I reached out, they said their guide was gone for 2 months. Very disappointing.
Such a cool unique experience walking in the dry forest with Leo in dark. We saw some awesome creepy crawlers- centipedes, millipedes, tarantulas, cockroaches, scorpions, moths, a snake, birds, lizards, walking sticks, ants, frogs, toads… just incredible. Wear some bug spray and reasonable shoes if rainy season like us! He provides headlamps and safety watch!
Great experience!! I got clear directions to the meeting point, where the guide Leo, was waiting, then we were joined by 4 other people. Leo was awesome!! he guided us through path in the forrest and we got to see several different species of frogs, spiders, snakes, a few sleeping birds, lizards and iguanas, moths, centipedes, millipedes, beetles, etc.
Our guide Leo was great. He did a good job of looking for animals to see. Unfortunately we mostly just saw was the same kinda spiders again and again. We did see a small snake which was really cool but compared to some of the other night hikes we have done, this had the least amount of wildlife. That being said I would still recommend it.
This was a fun night walk. Leo met us at the trail entrance and we had just under 3 hours to explore around. Saw snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, etc. Not much in the way of mammals this time of year. Bring long pants and shoes. We showed up in shorts and chacos and have the bug bites to prove it. One note on the meeting place - it is indeed in front of a garden shop on a dark highway adjacent to some commercial/industrial store fronts. Don't worry, the pindrop location Leo gives you is correct. We showed up early, didn't see anyone there 10 minutes before, and through reading reviews (one in particular), we were mislead into thinking that the meet up spot was in Loco Tours (I think). So we left to find the tour spot, only to have Leo call us asking where we were. Ignore the previous bad review, meet at the pindrop spot and have fun!
Léo’s nighttime tour of the dry forest was an incredible experience! He was so kind, accommodating, and an absolute joy to spend time with. His ability to spot insects and animals was truly impressive—he somehow found a stick insect that was completely indistinguishable from an actual stick! He was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife, and his excitement was contagious. The tarantulas were especially cool, and we learned so much while having a lot of fun. We really loved this experience, and Léo made it extra special. Highly recommend this tour and Léo in particular—he was awesome!
We did not get to go on this tour because the instructions the tour guide gave us to the meeting place were to a location that doesn’t have their name. They used a pin location of a plant store next to them. Also, they don’t have a phone number listed on their website. We should have received a refund but were denied. Very unprofessional. The children were extremely disappointed. I would not recommend using this tour company.
The guide was extremely knowledgeable and really took his time trying to find all the creatures for you to see.
Amazing experience! I had high expectations for wildlife, but they were exceeded! Leon was a fantastic guide- respectful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. We saw multiple species of frog, two species of snake, a bunch of great insects and arthropods, just about everything I was looking for.
Leo is a fantastic guide and a really nice guy! He has spent a lot of time in Costa Rica both in Guanacaste and the OSA Peninsula. We saw lots of spiders, frogs, insects, birds and mammals. What you see will depend on the time of year, rainfall and luck! Enjoy!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and patient with our more skittish friends. Our younger grandson was fascinated with the tarantulas, scorpions and sleeping butterflies! Conditions were muddy… as expected this time of year! Wear rubber boots if you brought them! We even saw a kinkajou (pretty rare I guess)!
We went on this tour with Léo. He was so nice and accommodating. It was rainy that day and he gave us the choice if we still wanted to go. Our sons really wanted to, since they were really looking forward to it. He made it so fun for them. He was great at finding the insects and animals and was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed this experience and he was so awesome!
Leo was extremely knowledgeable about the biodiversity of Costa Rica, and was able to spot all kinds of creatures we would have completely missed if he hadn’t pointed them out! I was a little nervous at first, but felt at ease with Leo’s guidance. We saw tarantulas, frogs, birds, a snake and lots of other weird insects and spiders. I would definitely recommend this tour if you like animals and insects!
Leo is a great guy who is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the wildlife around Tamarindo. We went on the search for snakes, and ended up finding three! We definitely recommend his night walk for any retile and amphibian and nature enthusiasts.
This is a new tour offered in the Tamarindo area and my guide Lopold was amazing. He introduced me to many creatures I have never seen in my life and although we never seen a snake, anteater, or owl each evening can be different. What I seen on my tour could most like be there but the chance of seen larger wildlife exists "It's Nature and they have their own schedule." For those that are not afraid of things like snakes, scorpions, and spiders this is a great tour and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to do something a little different. "Pura Vida"
Our guide Leopold had the eye to notice what would normally go unnoticed in the darkness. Especially since most of the animals and insects we met had good camouflage. We were lucky enough to see moths commonly known as black witches, a scorpion, baby-sized buffalo toads, stick phasms, little lizards sleeping under the leaves, snakes, tarantulas and many more. By turning off our lamps, we were able to enjoy the sparkling night of fireflies. Leopold had the answer to most of our questions and we learned a lot about Costa Rica’s dry forest fauna. Having spent our week of vacation in the Guanacaste area, we made a stop in Tamarindo on purpose for this experience and we were not disappointed.
Merci !!
