Jason was a really good instructor with a lot of energy!! It was a pleasure to take the surf lesson with him.

This was the absolute best possible first ever surfing experience. Our instructor, Jason, was super friendly and a very effective coach! He was so patient and so encouraging…he really made learning the basics so much fun!

This was our first time surfing. Jason was an excellent surf instructor! We were able to stand up within the first couple of waves!! Highly recommend Jason as a surf instructor! I had tried surfing before and couldn’t get up on the board. Surfing is not easy , learning balance and a completely new technique takes time — but Jason’s patience, great instructions, and constant encouragement made all the difference. Highly recommend Costa Surf and Jason if you're looking to surf in Tamarindo! Of the three different instructors I had traveling around Costa Rica, Jason was by far the best. He is very knowledgeable and attentive, always making sure you're safe and not left alone battling the waves. Jason doesn't just tell you what to do, but he teaches you to read the waves and help you develop your skills so you can continue more independently in the future. I had my very first surfing lesson here in Tamarindo with him and it was an amazing experience. Since I had never stood on a surfboard before, he was incredibly patient, motivational, and consistent throughout the lesson. After every attempt to catch a wave, he carefully explained the techniques and gave clear feedback that really helped me improve and feel more confident. This was so much fun! He was so great at explaining how to get up and me and my boyfriend both got up every time and had the best time! Would be great for families and kids!!

Absolutely amazing experience. He was so informative, helpful and resourceful. This is way better than doing a big group lesson. More one on one time and more time in the water. He makes you feel very welcoming, you feel like a real local at home.

Not only did he teach my 12 year old daughter to surf, but he also taught her to read the waves - one of the most challenging parts of surfing. He was safety conscious and fun all at the same time. You could not find a better person than Jason to teach you to surf. She had the experience of a lifetime.

I was only in Tamarindo for a few days, but my goal for the trip was to learn how to surf. I tried a few different coaches, either because I felt they didn’t really know how to teach, or because I didn’t feel entirely safe as a solo female traveler. As a solo female traveler, feeling safe and comfortable in the water is very important to me. I found Jason while randomly scrolling (and I also liked the idea of supporting local Ticos), and I’m so glad I did! Jason doesn’t just know how to surf. He really knows how to teach. More importantly, you can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and that passion is contagious. After his lesson, I felt much more connected to the board and to the waves. Surfing is so much more than just having someone push you into waves and tell you when to stand up. Jason actually teaches you what you need to understand, whether you're a beginner or more advanced. As someone who enjoys the “theory” behind things, I especially appreciated his clear and structured explanations. We started with some theory on the beach before going into the water. The conditions weren’t ideal that day, but Jason is excellent at reading waves, and I was still able to catch several. It was a great conclusion to my trip. I only had time for one lesson before leaving, but I will definitely book more with him next time I’m back in Tamarindo, and I’ll absolutely be recommending him to my friends. If you're looking to surf in Tamarindo, I highly recommend booking a lesson with Jason. Whether you're serious about improving or just want to try surfing for fun, you'll have a great experience, and it will help you have a better understanding of surfing as a sport.

Jason is a fantastic teacher and his passion for the sea and surfing is contagious! He is an expert in reading and riding the sea. We felt so blessed to learn from him and learn how to embrace, not resist the ocean. Under his guidance, my 78 year-old father was able to ride the waves four times all the way to the beach, on his very first surfing class! I highly recommend Jason to anyone who wishes to learn surfing the real tico way :)

Exceeded expectations, the BEST place to book your surfing lessons! David was a pro at teaching our group of 10-21 yr olds and gave us a wonderful personalized experience. He determined the time and place based on weather conditions and very generously spent a lot of extra time with us getting to a beautiful less crowded beach, giving us a relaxed experience. Everything was included: surf boards, wet suits, etc. and all 4 participating caught many waves! We felt like we were with a knowledgeable surfer friend vs a corporation churning groups. We also enjoyed the most delicious pineapple we’ve ever had! Muchas gracias, David. Book with him, you won’t regret it!

I've always wanted to try surfing. And if not in Costa Rica, where else, right? So I booked private surfing lessons with Costa Surf and haven't regretted it to this day. Before I even got in the water, the basics were explained really well, and I practiced the moves on the board. After 20 minutes, I was already in the water, catching my first waves. In the end, thanks to the great surf instructor, I landed a few waves and made one of the best memories of this trip. Thank you so much! Highly recommended!

Jason was an amazing instructor. My fiancé and I were able to get up and successfully ride waves very quickly. Would highly recommend! We both loved surfing with him.

After taking my first lesson with Jason I knew he was the right instructor to help me learn to surf. Previous instructors I had would just say 1 23 pop up and I would usually fall . Jason explained body position and movements to me and kept repeating them until I remember them on my own. Jason also puts a major emphasis on connecting to the ocean and nature. I find this helps me feel grounded and connected and relaxed. I find alot of his advice with riding the waves of the water translate to everyday life. Jason shows a lot of respect for the ocean and will pick up garbage in the ocean if he finds some during the lesson. I find him to be friendly, respectful and easy to talk to. I have progressed in my surfing and I even did a surf skateboarding lesson which was fun and also really helpful for developing my body position. I'm looking forward to my next lesson and definitely recommend Jason to any person who wants to learn to surf and to learn about the Pura Vida surf culture.
