Steve was hands down the best white water rafting guide we could have asked for! From the moment we met him, he made our entire family feel comfortable, safe, and excited for the adventure. He went above and beyond to make sure all of our kids had an amazing experience, making sure each of them got equal opportunities to hit the biggest splashes and enjoy the ride. Even with three little “rowers” whose paddling didn’t exactly add much power, Steve expertly kept our raft in the perfect position to catch the best waves. His skill on the river was incredibly impressive. What really set him apart, though, was how much he genuinely cared about making our day special. During our break, he even made sure the kids got extra delicious watermelon and pineapple, which they absolutely loved. It was such a thoughtful touch that perfectly reflected the level of service and kindness he showed all day. If you’re lucky enough to get Steve as your guide, you’re in for an unforgettable experience. He made our rafting trip one of the highlights of our vacation, and we can’t recommend him highly enough!

Canyoning was hands down my favorite activity. It was SO much fun! The entire day was well planned and every single guide was competent, knowledgeable, and friendly. It can be difficult to master all three together, but I am so impressed with the Costa Rican culture. The guides were patient when some of my kids were scared and encouraging when we were doing well. It was such a fun day! We saw two sloths and several monkeys while on the river. Spotted some frogs and lizards and iguanas too! We went as a family of five with my 14, 12, and 10 year old. Two were afraid of heights but did it anyways. I was so proud of them. They all loved the time on the river with no fear.

Can't say enough about this exciting combo adventure! We are a family of 8, ages 70-38, and this experience was a perfect fit. Every guide was great at making it fun and exciting for the more experienced/adventurous in our group while making those of us less experienced feel comfortable and safe at all times. The rappelling was exciting and invigorating! Our white water rafting guides, Esteban and Christopher, were awesome! Skilled, knowledgeable, and fun! Highly recommend this tour.

Amazing experience canyon rappelling and white water rafting. The guides were very experienced, safe, and fun! The rappelling was exciting, you definitely get wet. The monkey drop is a thrill! White water rafting was just as fun. Our guide Christopher was top notch. Easy to understand, follow directions, kept the experience very enjoyable. Highly recommended excursion!

This was an absolute highlight of our trip! The canyoning was terrifying, but once we got the hang of it, we all loved it. The guides are so knowledgeable and made us feel safe and comfortable. The rafting was a blast!! Our guide, Danny Boy, was fun, knowledgeable, and funny. He kept us all safe and inside the boat, we stopped for a little swim, and fresh pineapple (the best in the world) on the beach. Don't hesitate. Book this tour.

If I could give this six stars I would. Best experience of my son’s and my ten-day trip to Costa Rica. You start by rappelling down waterfalls as tall as 100 feet and getting dunked into pools - the guides strap you in and actually handle most of your weight as you descend. Thrilling. Then you get transferred to a river an hour away to shoot rapids in a six-person boat. The guide was incredibly fun and funny, all felt very organized and safe, they even pull you out halfway to eat pineapple and watermelon. Finally you finish with a big traditional Costa Rican lunch at a farm where they do pourovers of local coffee and let you taste sugar cane juice and moonshine. It was an epic experience and the perfect capper to our trip. Be sure to bring a change of clothes! We didn’t think we needed to, but would’ve been a lot more comfortable if we had.

Thanks for the incredible teams at Pure Trek and Wave Expeditions, our family had one of the most fun and exciting experiences ever! Our family of 5 started the day with waterfall repelling with the Pure Trek team. They made the experience so fun and even though some of us were a little nervous, the guides all made us feel confident and really have an amazing experience! After that, we did the water rafting with Wave Expeditions. They thought of every detail to make it such a special and memorable day. Our rafting guide, Moises, was the absolute best! I can’t say enough good things about him and the rest of the team. After our adventures, we had a beautiful Costa Rican lunch at an organic farm restaurant, and experienced a traditional coffee and sugar cane demonstration with samples and lots of laughs. From the drivers, to the guides to the photographers, every person at this experience went out of their way to make it a very fun and memorable day! Thank you! Highly recommend for your family while in La Fortuna, Costa Rica!

This was so fun! We had a fantastic raft guide, Momo. He pointed out lots of birds and other wildlife, and we saw a momma sloth with its baby! If you're a more adventurous rafter and want an exciting trip that includes tricks like spinning your raft through the rapids, Momo is the best!

The full day rappelling/canyoning and white water rafting was the best day of our vacation. In fact, Wave and Pure Trek do such a great job that we did this experience both times we visited Costa Rica! Everything is so well planned and organized, and the guides couldn’t be better or friendlier. Mariano made the rafting experience feel personal by taking the time to point out animals along the way and taking a route suited to our family and skill level. Our kids (16, 14, and 12) could not stop smiling and laughing. We recommend this experience wholeheartedly and wouldn’t dream of vacationing to Costa Rica without including Wave and PureTrek as part of the trip.

The waterfall repelling/white water rafting experience is absolutely a must do! My experience with Wave Expeditions was flawless. They took care of coordinating and making smooth transitions between each event. Our day started with an unforgettable experience, seeing gorgeous water falls at different level. I am someone who is afraid of heights, the guides were incredibly supportive the whole time making me super comfortable. The guides were all very informative, positive and a delight to be around. All five waterfalls were very different, one even provides you a zip line feel, and you get a nice hike through the jungle. There is a larger incline to hike up at the end, but nothing to deter you. We were provided an unexpected snack between our events. Nice little touch. The white water rafting was the second part of our day. Again, our main tour guide, Enzo, was super knowledgeable with a great personality. The rapids are fast and frequent, with not much lazy river time. Your individual raft guide will coach you through the entire trip down the river. I can’t say enough great things about Carlos, our raft lead, not only did he get us down the river, he took the time to get to know us and educate us about all the wildlife around us. We were even able to see a sloth! From there we headed to a great location for a buffet local lunch and tasting. If you are considering this adventure with Wave Expeditions, even if you are not considering, just do it!! I promise you will not be disappointed.

We did a combination tour of the Waterfall Rappelling and Whitewater Rafting on the same day. I did not realize these two activities would be run by two different tour operators. Pure Trek ran the rappelling part, and Wave Rafting ran the whitewater rafting part. These excursions were the highlight of our vacation, but in hindsight, I would do them on separate days because we were exhausted at the end of the day. As for Wave Expeditions, they had way overbooked the date and had to charter a bus to bring all 50 people up to a different river that had the capacity to accomodate so many people. The bus ride was over an hour, but the rafting made up for it. The rapids were pretty brisk and we saw a lot of whitewater. About half way, they had us pull all the boats over and they cut up fresh watermelon and pineapple for a snack. At the end, we changed into our dry clothes, they gave us beer and juice for the kids, and then took us to a restaurant where we had dinner. When we finally got back to La Fortuna, they dropped us off back at our hotel. Overall it was a great experience, just a very long day!

Kervin was beyond excellent, super friendly and happy, made lots of jokes and made everyone feel comfortable. Our raft guide, Christopher was excellent too. Go in clothes that you don't mind getting soaked. You leave your belongings and change of clothes on the bus and can change after the rafting is over. They provide towels. The included lunch is excellent, a buffet with veg and non veg options. If you're doing the canyoning/rafting combo - they give you a great snack bag in between both activites with peanuts, a banana, water and an energy bar.

My husband and I went white water rafting and signed up last minute. Our rafting guide was "Cristopher Robin." He was very friendly and helpful. We were nervous going into the experience but he made it so much fun. Would definitely recommend doing this! Pura Vida

We had so much fun white water rafting with our families. My boys are (12,10,8). They loved it! The class 2 and 3 rapids were perfect for our kids without scaring them. Our tour guide Mariano did a wonderful job driving the boat. He couldn't of been nicer. Guestavo, on the bus, did a great job of explaining everything and giving us some cultural background. I would highly recommended this tour to any families.

WOW! We did both the canyoning/waterfall rappelling and white water rating on the Balsa all in one day! This tour is a well oiled machine. It was exciting and adventurous while also feeling very safe! The entire family did both and really enjoyed it. Canyoning will take your breath away but you leave feeling very proud of your accomplishments! Don’t forget to do ALL - including the Monkey Drop! Whitewater rafting was fun and exciting with a stop for some fruit along the way. Great photos ( especially if you’re in front of the raft)! Wave Expeditions planned out entirely vacation- not just these tours! We used them for other private tours, private driving, hotels, meals, etc. They have been around for over 15 years - I know since we also used Wave for our honeymoon 15 years ago! Very well run company. They remembered EVERYTHING! I cluing my son’s 13th birthday and presented him with a cake!

We had a fantastic day out, canyoning in the morning and white water rafting in the afternoon. Our guide for the afternoon was Momo who was fantastic, he was very knowledgable, pointed out the wildlife while giving us a great tour through the rapids. The included lunch was very decent. The only slight downside was a long wait between canyoning and white water rafting.

Absolutely incredible adventure day for us on our last day in the La Fortuna area. Saved the best for last! Started with canyoning and then moved onto the rafting Everyone was very professional and man what an operation to get us all safely to the bottom of each waterfall and safe and sound in our rafts. I can't say enough about both of these adventures. Thrill of a lifetime! Oh, and don't want to forget the finale - an amazing organic lunch (best meal I've had in CR), sugar cane demo and really just everything was top notch. Highly recommend if in CR.

We had booked a full day combo tour with canyoning in the morning with Pure Trek and rafting in the afternoon with Wave Expedition. The entire day was seamlessly organized from start to finish. WAVE was exceptional. Javier, our driver, got us everywhere safely and kept everyone's belongings safe. Our rafting guide, Diego, was outstanding - super knowledgeable and fun! We all had an awesome time, including our hard-to-impress 3 teen boys.

Loved this day of activities. WAVE was exceptional and would highly recommend this company. Warren was our guide for the river rafting and he was so amazing and very thorough with safety precautions. He also explained so much of the local history and we had the amazing experience of local cuisine and culture.

The rafting and rappelling combo was outstanding! The guides were great! Our favorite was Enzo our rafting guide. He was so knowledgeable about the country and wildlife and made sure we all had an excellent time rafting. The lunch was excellent and this day was the highlight of our trip.

What an amazing group of guides and new friends. Logan and I went rafting and canyoning (my first time for both) while on our honeymoon in Costa Rica. The tour was recommended by many so we assumed it would be great. From the start, every detail was measured perfectly. We were picked up in front of our hotel and the two drivers (who were also guides) were pleasant, humorous and made us very comfortable, even at 7:00am. We started w/ canyoning (or repelling alongside waterfalls) and they were quick brief but informative on how to do the repelling. For a 1st timer I felt like I knew what I was doing right away. While its a bit scary at first, the repelling is fantastic and easier than it seems. All of the guides are there every step and make sure your safety is a priority. They move you along quickly so you barely have to wait. Each stop is different, the first was quite long and a good way to acclimate. The next is a jump into a plunge pool and its awesome. The end is 90' and if you want you can jump all at once! We had a quick snack then went to the rafting portion. Rafting with Augusto and Carlos was fantastic. We left the canyoning area to head to the river, about 30 minutes away. They gave us a snack to hold us over till lunch. Augusto (or Gussie for short, spelling??) was great on the bus, he was hilarious but informative and got everyone excited for the second part. I have never been rafting so I wasnt sure what to expect but im told the rapids were fantastic and much better than those with experience knew in the states. we had 2 others in our raft plus our guide, Carlos. He led off with some instruction on what to do and was very helpful. Then we were off! Carlos made it easy. The reaction time must be quick but its so fun. You certainly get very wet! But its fantastic and never did anyone feel unsafe. We breaked halfway for some fresh cut pina y sandia and then back to the raft for a more relaxing trip down the river (but still no lazy river) Carlos would explain to us about the history of the country and the are and point out wildlife, he was very knowledgeable. After the rafting was over we changed and back to the bus for a beer and then to lunch (arroz con pollo) and it was fantastic. We also had a brief sugarcane demonstration, which was really cool. all in all it was a 10 out of 10 and the company runs a great tour. Everyone was extremely friendly AND knowledgable. It was a great day for anyone of all ages and experience as they take safety seriously. Recommendations: bathing suit wet shirt water shoes change of bathing suit and wet shirt if you are doing both change of dry clothes get the pictures at both, $30 for each session and they are great!

Our entire family (parents + 3 teen boys) thoroughly enjoyed canyoning in the morning and rafting in the afternoon. A full adrenaline day! Our guides were fun, friendly, and knowledgeable. Rafting guide Jiro was excellent. Would highly recommend for a fun, adventurous day in the rainforests of Costa Rica! Memories forever.

We had a great time with wave expeditions! We started the morning with Puretrek and because we weren’t sure how the weather would be, we didn’t purchase the rafting to start. It ended up being a gorgeous day and they let us add on the rafting! We had so much fun!! Pelucci was our guide and we felt so safe under his direction. We live in a place with a lot of white water rafting so we weren’t sure if we wanted to do this but I am so glad we did. Don’t miss out on this amazing experience. Also, the chicken and rice for lunch was my favorite of the entire trip. That salsa was amazing!

We’ve been in Costa Rica for two weeks now and we’ve done just about every type of activity possible here—and this has been our favorite thing we’ve done so far! We booked a combo package to do canyoning (with Pure Trek) and rafting. The rafting portion was incredible. Our guide, Gustavo, was so good at keeping us safe, training us, and telling us about the history of the area. The company went above and beyond, giving us snacks, drinks, amazing lunch, and a great cultural experience. It was so much fun and so we’ll orchestrated. I highly recommend it!

Our family’s favorite part of the day was the rafting and the monkey drop. The guides were excellent. We felt safe the entire time. My husband, who is afraid of heights, did everything. The guides helped him relax and have a good time. Super Mario was our river guide and was awesome! The food they provided was amazing!

We started with canyoning and it was amazing and so much fun!! The guides were all amazing and I felt safe at every moment! I 100% suggest booking with them. They are organized, picked us up from our Airbnb and included lunch (which was amazing!).they also include amazing pictures of the events! After we went white water rafting! IT WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! Our guide MARIO (super Mario 😂) was amazing. Mario was nice and informative, made us feel safe on the boat and made the experience enjoyable. Mario was very knowledgeable about the animals we saw and just Costa Rica overall we learned a lot from Mario. He was the best, he deserves all the praise I can give! Grateful for wave expedition and everything they offered!!!!

We had a planned trip to Costa Rica in late March of 2020 that had to be cancelled due to the global pandemic. We cancelled our trip and were assured we would be provided a refund. The company has been very responsive to email inquiries, but no refund more than 40 days after cancellation. I don't want to leave a bad review (gave 5 stars for now), but rather am curious if other bookings have had a similar experience.

Well organised day, Canyoning was great fun and everything felt extremely safe with clear a fantastic advice from Jonathan. The rafting was an excellent adventure, with our excellent guide Augusto made it feel like we could take on any rapid in seconds of hitting the water.

Guaranteed to please all! rappelling down the waterfalls was so much fun! jonathon and staff worked very hard to ensure that everyone had a great time! The white water rafting was equally fabulous! Had an amazing time waterfall rappelling , canyoning and then white water rafting. I’m not typically the type to write reviews but we had one tour guide that was just amazing so I wanted to give him a shout out as well as tell you all that if you get a chance to ask for a specific guide ask for Kenneth ! Great vibes and just a fun af dude. He was our boat guide. Cut up some watermelons n pineapples on the bottom of our boat, found us a sloth in the tree, made bunny ears for some kids on the boat out of leaves to put in their helmets , gave us some cervesassssss! Fun fun fun ! Thanks Kenneth !!

My wife and I live in Costa Rica and recently took some friends rafting with Wave Expedition. We had lots of fun were not disappointed with our adventure. We very often take our friends and guest rafting with Wave Expedition and we continue to get great feedback from all of our friends and guest. Overall this is a fun fill day. My wife and I along with our friends are retired so we were just part of the "active senior citizen" club.

First time white water rafting for the family, including 10 and 12 year old daughters. The guide was very thorough in their safety and instructional briefing, and very clear as to what he expected from us on the water. He wasn’t afraid to call out paddlers that weren’t engaged when expected to paddle. This is not a ride, but an activity everyone needs to participate and carry a load. The rapids were exciting enough to keep us focused and adrenaline moving, and the guide made sure we were getting our thrill on during the course of the tour. Afterwards we were treated to a cold beer or juice/water as we got out of the water, then an awesome authentic CR meal. The photos captured and shared in DropBox for a fee was well worth it. Great experience.

We had booked this tour through a travel agent and had no idea what the day included. I was taking my hubby, my two boys (ages 23 and 20) and my teenage daughter. We started by dropping about 90 foot through a waterfall on a harness. I was terrified but my adrenaline junkie kids adored it. There were 5 different but equally exciting rapelling type drops. You will get wet through so dont take money (even in a waterproof bag) and wear clothes and shoes you can get dry. At no point did I feel unsafe and the guides took our safety and comfort levels very seriously. The second tour was a level II/III white water rafting trip which we all loved and was wet, fast and immensely exciting. We have done lots of tours in Costa Rica and this white water rafting was by far our family favourite. Our guide was Romel and cannot recommend him highly enough - he was just the best. He made the trip fun, took everyones limitations into account - so the boys were at the front where the majority of the water flodded in and I was at the back slightly protected (although he made sure I was soaked through in about 1 minute! - no way to escape that). Wave Expeditions also has the added benefit of showers and changing rooms at the end of the trip which the other companies do not have. We were given a cold beer when we were dry and after a short bus ride, a celebratory meal in a really wonderful local soda who prepared some of the most delicious local food I have tasted. What a great day - amazing staff and a perfect family outing with adrenaline chasing kids. Highly recommend to anyone.

The entire day was great. Picked up early and went strait to repelling. The tour guides put at ease as you dropped down 5 cliffs with waterfalls. Then on to the whitewater rafting.....great guides: Diaz and Jairo were fantastic. Very informative and entertaining. Great adventure. Definitely consider this group.

We booked a full day rappelling and rafting combo with Pacific Trade Winds travel company. The morning was rappelling with Pure Trek canyoning - one of my favorite experiences of the trip. There were a dozen or so rappels, some down waterfalls. Definitely a thrill. They took us back into La Fortuna to switch off to rafting with Wave Expeditions. Rafting was fun - many on our trip said it was the best rafting they had ever done. I thought the rafting was okay, but rapids were a little smaller than I expected. After rafting on the way back to La Fortuna we stopped at a partner establishment to eat the best meal I had in Costa Rica. Since I've been rafting before but not rappelling, I found the rappelling more exciting.

Do yourself a favor & book this!!! This was hands-down one of our favorite days during our entire Costa Rica trip. We were picked up at our hotel, and driven to the rappelling location where we were geared up and received clear and brief instructions. The operating company, Pure Trek, was a group of awesome guys who made the whole experience super fun. My boyfriend is an emergency cop and knows rappelling well, and said these guys know exactly what they're doing. They also thankfully don't give you much time to get scared! They're cool and collected and keep it FUN. To say you'll get wet is an understatement....you will be fully submerged in pools of water at the bottoms of the waterfalls, so dress appropriately (athletic shorts and top that dry quickly)! We were then passed off to Wave Expeditions, the company that led the rafting tour. This was SO MUCH FUN! Our guide Diaz was awesome, friendly, knowledgeable, fun, gave clear direction and made us feel safe the whole time -- even when encountering big rapids! This was our first time white water rafting, and we'd definitely do it again. The scenery was beautiful, and we stopped midway to have a fresh snack of delicious pineapples and watermelon. Afterwards, we enjoyed a cold beer sponsored by the guides, and were taken to an organic farm where we had a typical Costa Rican lunch, which was reaalllllly tasty. We then got a short demonstration of how the farm extracts sugar from cane and took a shot of what they call Costa Rican moonshine made from the crop. Seriously best day ever!!

This trip was so fun and such a bang for your buck. They pick you up and drop you back off at your hotel, you start with rappelling which seems terrifying but it was amazing. We had one member of our group that was scared to do the large cliffs so they allowed her to do just the smaller ones and had a personal guide to walk her through the area. No regrets on rappelling! The white water rafting was intense but oh so fun, we had Jairo as our guide and he was the best! They take great pictures along the way, stop half way for a watermelon and pineapple snack. At one point, Jairo told us we could get out and swim and we just floated in the river, so cool! After the white water rafting, they serve drinks on the bus, so we enjoyed a Imperial, then they took us to a local farm, served us THE BEST MEAL WE HAD IN COSTA RICA, served local organic coffee, showed us how sugar cane was used to make juice, then let us try moonshine made on the farm! Amazing! Highly recommended, would do this again in a heartbeat!

My husband and I started day rappelling this was fun little scary but so glad we tried it be sure to wear good shoes and clothes meant to be wet.guides very helpful teaching you what to do. Then we went rafting our rafting guide was Warner I believe and has been doing that for 20 years very helpful and great guide. The rafting was so fun too. Again getting very wet. Both yours give snacks first one little brown sack of snacks and rafting that set up make shift table with fruit very delicious. So glad we did this combo!

This day was SO MUCH FUN. Rappelling staff was so knowledgeable and made us feel so comfortable. I am afraid of heights and had no problem rappelling down a huge waterfall. The sights were so beautiful, I can't even describe it. This is the best way to see Costa Rica. The second half of the day was the rafting. Again, staff was incredible. We felt very safe. We had a blast on the river. Sights were equally as gorgeous on the rafting trip! At the end, we had a delicious lunch and looked through photos of our day. We will definitely do this again next time we are in Costa Rica and we will absolutely do it with Wave Expeditions. Don't think about it, just BOOK IT and have the best day of your trip like we did. p.s. there is an Orlando Bloom lookalike who will save your life on the rappelling trip. Just trust us.
