One of the best family activities we’ve ever enjoyed together with our four teens! The whole staff were amazing and we felt safe the whole time. Our guide, Congo, was fun and we had a lot of laughs and he also pointed out lots of animals and plants native to Costa Rica. It didn’t even matter it rained most of the trip!

So much fun! This was a fantastic experience fun, safe and what a rush!

We did combo atv and rafting tour with Wave rafting. The atv is not done by wave but was done by outback atv tours. Outback is 3rd party to wave. No problem with that at all. Cons The thing you need to know for sure is this atv tour is not for first timers especially those who think they have a driver's license can pick this up. The terrain is filled with rocks and slurry of clay and to make it worse there are long stretches that slopes down 45 degrees. If you have done atv before you wil enjoy this. If you are first timer and you may find it difficult where the guide will give you couple of chances before pulling you out to ride as a passenger based on availability or they may cancel the tour for you. This is something you should be aware of before you take this tour. Take some atv lessons either watching YouTube videos or driving one. One best tip i got from someone who came to our rescue was dont hold the handle too tight and relax your shoulder. That made a huge difference in how I drove after. Pros White water rafting we did as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids [10,15]). We had a blast and the guide we got was Justin who was god sent. He made sure we had maximum fun rafting and also learning to raft. Justin is local costa rican and has done this all his life. He made us sit in different postures to keep the excitement throughout the tour. Eventhough it says level 2-3 , it had mostly 3 but depends on the season and weather. Since we did late December which is right after the rain season. There were lots of birds, sloths, monkeys we spotted but you need binoculars to see them clearly. The birds we saw mostly the ones that were waiting for the fishes. Towards the end they allow you to jump into the river and they made sure you are not swept away by the current. Overall rafting is exceptional but atv not so much but I will still give 5 stars for how it all ended.

Great for the family with kids. My 7 year old was scared first but he enjoyed it after he got used to it. Highly recommend. Javier and Giorgio(deff punk) were awesome

The trip was amazing, the ATV tour gave us some beautiful views of the Arenal volcano and we saw a bunch of wildlife along the way. Our guides were very knowledgeable and made the experience a blast! The white water rafting down the balsa river was incredible! The rapids were class 2-3 but were amazingly fun. Our guide Kervin spent time between rapids teaching us about Costa Rica! We finished up with lunch and a drink spending time with our amazing guides! 10/10 would do again in a heartbeat! Can’t wait to come back

My wife and I have never white water rafted before and we went out on a day that the rapids were quite big. The experience was more challenging than we expected but we had a fantastic raft guide, Miguel, who did an amazing job helping us and we ended up having a really great time!

My husband and I did this tour: ATV rides with Outback and rafting with Wave Expeditions. It was the highlight of our trip! If you are nervous or scared for either, dont be! All the guides are absolutely incredible and both excursions were incredibly safe. I wish I remembered our ATV guides but they were awesome. Our rafting guide Justin was amazing and kept us laughing the entire time. Transportation was provided and picked us up right from our hotel which was nice. Lunch was provided in the afternoon and the food was excellent. Both companies also take professional pictures that you can purchase (not expensive at all for all the photos, and we loved all the pics). 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I took students to Costa and we did the water rafting in Sarapiqui river. Our tour guides were Antonio, Justin, Miguel & Mariano. EVERYONE was very kind, helpful and fun! It was one of the most exciting activities we did in Costa Rica! Brandon took pictures of us and they are excellent, high quality pictures! I highly recommend you buy the pictures, you will not regret it!

My family and I had an absolute blast on the combo trip of ATV and Rafting (with Wave Expeditions). The ATV trip had a beautiful route through the roads beside the volcano, and a fun, challenging terrain down to a waterfall and river. I would highly recommend adding the picture deal for $30 dollars. A guide follows the group and takes pictures at different spots throughout the route with a professional camera and ensures you and your fam have super cute in-action pics. Now onto the rafting trip. Bottom line: It was an absolute blast!!! The rafting guides are such a ball. They are goofy and fun and love to interact with their guests. The river in itself is one of the best rivers my family and I have been to. The rapids were challenging, but in the best way. Definitely expect to get wet. Additionally, the traditional Costa Rican lunch that was included was so delicious - without a doubt the most authentic costa rican food we had on our trip. Shoutout to Gerald and Alonso who made our rafting tour one to remember.

An incredible experience! The first 5 minutes is intense but exhilarating and helps you feel very confident about the safety of the raft and that the instructor (we had the incredible Pablo) is in total control. A perfect mix of rough water and calm stretches to take in the wildlife. Best activity during 2 weeks in Costa Rica and that’s saying something!

Mario was our guide, and he was fantastic. Great person to have on the water with our group! Gerald was in charge of pick up and was great too!

The atv tour was okay. We didn’t feel like it was very scenic or fun. Too much time was spent on roads, we wanted more off roading. The local tribe we got to meet was interesting. They presented some history and we tried their homemade wine. We also got a chance to shoot a bow and spear. I say spear because it was a large arrow. The art was beautiful. The white water rafting tour was fun! The tour guides were fun! Thank you Jorge for getting us wet! We got to see a lot of wildlife! Thank you for letting us ride the Bull! The fruit and the lunch with the moonshine was delicious! Thanks Jorge and Flaco!

I was incredibly scared to rafting to the point that I even cried while getting on the raft. Sivianny who was my instructor looked at me and asked if I was ok, and I replied that I was not and was really scared. He then told me that everything was going to be ok and he assured me that if anything would happens, he would take care of me. I was so scared starting but he instructed me so well that the fear faded away and I can honestly say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Im so greatfull for the team and the experience but I’m especially greatfull for my instructor, his grace and his experience made everything so much better! Super awesome dude 🇨🇷🤍

ATV ride was disappointing. We ATV’d down the main road, not a trail, to the observation point (1/2 way) and turned around. They only took us down a muddy trail when a person in our group complained (I think it was the tour guides friend that let us use their land to ATV). Then they didn’t tell us to lift our legs going over water and our daughter burned her leg badly. Not happy. But the rest of the trip was amazing! Rafting was fun-good for beginners. Then the lunch at the farm was amazing! Highly recommend rafting without the ATV.

This excursion was my friends and I's favorite excursion, which is really impressive considering how much fun I had doing other activities around Costa Rica. Starting with the ATV's, this is definitely for the adventurous. You'll be going up and down very rocky paths, but the view is UNREAL. You pass through fields with animals, it's just amazing. The white water rafting was the absolute BEST BEST BEST experience. It's great for beginners. I had Jefry and he was just SO much fun. I couldn't imagine a better tour guide. The lunch was great, coffee was even better. I would recommend 1000% and if I come back I'd do it all over again.

We paid an extremely fair price for the experience that kept exceeding our expectations. The staff from each of the two parts of our day were fun, welcoming, and informative. We expected to ride ATVs through a tranquil straight line and just go rafting for a little while, but we got so much more. The ATV tour was through a huge cattle field near the Arenal volcano. Although we had a cloudy and somewhat rainy day, we were prepared and had an awesome time without the views. We rode through mud and water and really got to enjoy ourselves. Then we got a nice sandwich from a local restaurant and were on a bus en route to the rafting location. The ride was about 45 minutes but the guide, Agosto, kept us entertained while telling us what to expect and how to be safe with a few jokes intertwined. We got to the starting point on the river and met our guide for our raft, Yerjani, and he was fantastic. He was super appreciative of our tourism and thanked us multiple times. There were only 4 of us on his raft but he kept us safe and none of us fell out of the raft the whole time. The fresh fruit half way was a great treat and we were surprised that the tour included another farm to table meal, fresh Costa Rican coffee, and sugar cane harvesting presentation after the rafting, which we didn't even know when we booked. My girlfriend and I kept looking at each other in amazement at the great value of this trip. The many moving parts all worked well together, the many employees we met along the way were all genuinely welcoming and friendly, and we hardly had a chance to stop smiling. Do this while you're here, you won't regret it! Pura Vida!!!

In September 2019 ,we did the rafting. We had an amazing guide called Mario! We want to thank him from whole family for great spending time with him,he made this experience to be amazing and joyful. He is doing his job on the best side. And he deserve the best !

Our family did the Class II-III rapids. I was very impressed with the attention to safety, clear instructions and professionalism of this company. Lunch at the organic farm was delicious. The trip lasted about 3hrs, with a wonderful fresh fruit snack break and a cool swim. Our 12 year old absolutely loved the thrill. The guides go above and beyond to make you feel safe and have a good time. Don't worry about taking pictures, the company does that for you and their prices are quite reasonable. Just have fun!

I thought at 57 and a little overweight that I was pushing it on this one. We had a great guide & such a fun boat. it was sooooooo great. would do it again.

What a great day, we left Wave Expeditions about 10:30am returning about 3:30pm. The bus ride to our starting point on the Balsa River was pleasant and informative gearing us up for fun and excitement. Never having rafted before we were nervous but trusting, our trust did not fail us nor did our guide Yorhani. A brief lesson period before hitting the rapids was given and then we set out and did not look back. What a fun day on the water and we are bot in our mid 60s. If you have not tried this step out of the box into the raft and do so! After we were treated to a lunch at the organic restaurant Arenal Vida Campesina as well as a sugar cane demonstration and gardens. If you find yourself in or near La Fortuna, do not miss this tour!

Excellent experience from the atv riding to the rafting to the beer drinking, a 5 star experience hands down !!

I highly recommend this company! The experience was exceptional. I have done ATVing tons of times, but never have been water rafting. Both were soooooo fun. ATV Although I thought I was a pro, nothing beats trying to ride/ drive thru Arenal Volcano area. The ride is very intense, bumpy, and you need skills to stay upright. The girl in front of us continuously flipped her bike over, because she wasn't driving straight on the path that they pave out for you. YOU MUST BE ATTENTIVE! Even through it all, we helped each other, and laughed with each other when someone flipped or got off track. The instructor and photographer were great and I really appreciate their help. Water Rafting After the ATV tour, you go back to the venue, eat a small lunch (wasn't good at all, we had quesadillas), and head to the Rafting Center to take another bus to a location an hour away. That whole process was smooth. After arriving in the next city, there is a traditional Costa Rican meal available and its to die for! So delicious. After lunch, we did a safety tutorial and headed to the river. Literally had the best time of my life. Marco was our instructor and he went above and beyond to sure we had so much fun. We also got to jump off of a cliff half way down the river, which was a very funny time for everyone. I have no complaints. I highly recommend!

Rafting: The rafting trip was amazing and Wave Expeditions was top notch. My first time white-water rafting, and now I'm hooked. Marco - our guide - was funny and experienced and made sure we had a great time, while keeping us safe. ATV Tour: Before reading the following - I want to say that I contacted Viator and they got me a refund for what I was overcharged. I can't say enough good things about Viator!!! The ATV tour... The ATV excursion was good, but the guides had little personality (all business). My biggest problem is that we did not get what we paid for. Though there were only 3 of us, we paid for 3 double ATVs (that means 3 ATVs that could accommodate 2 riders each). We were given only 2 single ATVs then told we had to pay an additional $46 USD if we wanted a third ATV (so we could each have our own). Additionally, when paying, they tried to short-change me $20 USD when converting from Colognes to Dollars. Fortunately, I called Viator when I got back to the states and they got me a refund for not only the incremental $46, but for the difference in price for single rider vs. double rider ATVs. Yeah for Viator!!! In summary, I would recommend this excursion and would highly recommend Wave Expeditions. I would also book this same excursion again, knowing that Viator will make it right if not delivered as promised.

<p>This was one of my absolute favorite tour packages in all of our tours of Costa Rica. The guides were great, and they were very helpful. For the package, we were picked up at our hotel and taken to the ATV rental via a comfy tour van. The ATVs and safety equipment were all new-ish and well maintained. The guides went through a quick safety briefing and we were off for the trail! We went through a short beginner course to get everyone up to speed. My girlfriend rode on the back and was laughing and giggling the whole time. Lots of bumps, hills, and mud! After the farm area, you are guided through a jungle trail, then to a waterfall/river. The whole ride was about 2.5 hours. Two guides go with the group the entire time and were great at getting people out of jams, and keeping the group going. Absolutely amazing and fun! Next up was the river rafting. We were shuttled a few miles down the road via tour van to the Balsa River to be met by Carlos and our boat mates. After a quick safety briefing and instructions, we were off to paddle our way over mild to rough rapids. Class 2 and 3 was perfect for my girlfriend, who was a bit hesitant about rafting. She had a great time though. There was a spot in the middle of the trip where we got to jump in the river for a swim. Water was cool and fun. One of the safety guides is also a photographer for the group, so was taking pictures along the way for purchase later. Our boat captain/guide was great at commanding the boat and making sure we avoided obstacles, etc. In fact, I'm pretty sure he could have got got us through the rapids on his own without us even rowing, LOL. Anyway, absolutely amazing trip! My favorite package of our entire Costa Rica trip, and we did everything from horseback riding to walking tours to nature hikes to zip lining, etc. etc. This was the most fun of all of the tours we did!</p>

My first time doing this activity and I certainly could not choose a better Enterprise than "wave expedition" in Fortuna. I must thank Carlos for his explanations along the way and his sympathy and, of course, our SUPER Mario, the best of the monitors. We loved it, an adrenaline shot. Thank you all for your good work.
