5-hour Guided Sunset Boat Tour In Tamarindo Costa Rica

We had a wonderful catamaran ride from Tamarindo. The staff constantly refilled drinks and stopped the boat whenever we saw wildlife (turtles, dolphins). The dinner was perfect, a combo of chicken, rice and beans, and the sunset was unbeatable. The weather was in our favor but the staff really cared about our experience and were positive and friendly. I liked that this was a smaller catamaran and it was only about half capacity (15 people other than crew). It was wavy so I didn’t see many fish. A stingray was the highlight , along with the private black sand beach. I’d recommend this tour to anyone staying in Tamarindo!

The crew hustle and never stop serving you. The swim from the catamaran to the beach was more than I wanted to swim but it was great time! All you need is some sunscreen & some cash to tip. The meetup and parking was an issue but that’s not a reflection of the company. It’s a full tour with drinks, food, and snorkeling/swimming.

We absolutely loved our experience with this crew! It was seriously one of the highlights of our trip. Toto, Jose, and Luis were so welcoming and attentive and made sure we always had our drinks filled. As for the activities, you can't beat snorkeling and hanging out on a private beach. Plus, the burrito lunch was delicious! They also asked if we wanted our own music, and we said absolutely not -- their reggae playlist was perfect for our island/boat vibes. I’ll remember this experience fondly for a long time. Thanks, all!

Fun time on this catamaran which took our group (6) and another group (3) to a secluded beach about 1:45 from Tamarindo. Open bar, fresh fruit, then dinner after we had a chance to snorkel and swim. The staff was wonderful, very kind and attentive, made sure we were happy and having a good time. The highlight was the sunset on our way back home. A very nice way to spend an afternoon in Costa Rica.

The crew was so dedicated to our service. They were pleasant, respectful, patient and accommodating. It was a great experience!

The tour was fun, and the people who work the boat are great and very friendly, and everything was timely and handled well. But the photos you see in this listing don't accurately reflect the more bones experience you will actually have. These are no throw pillows or tables with cup holders, and the dinner is nothing like that shown in the photos. It was taco fixings out of tupperware. There is no "private beach." Just a small strip of sand you are welcome to swim out to yourself. The snorkel supplies looked pretty gross, like they had not been cleaned between trips. We enjoyed the trip, for sure, but would not have paid so much for it. Don't book this if you're looking for a classy romantic cruise experience. It is not that.

Excellent experience! The crew was amazing, so friendly and fun. The views were beautiful and the food was delicious. The crew was attentive to everyone. My husband and I had an incredible time and we definitely recommend this adventure!!

I Had an AMAZING time. Luis x2 and Toto were such great guides and host. The views and vibe were 100% and they kept the drinks going. I enjoyed that we got to free swim for about 1 hour and half. Nothing felt rushed at all. It was perfect. I would 100% so this again. I had an amazing trip. I was sad it was over !

It’s incredible! Luis and the crew are really attentive to your needs and are always making sure you’re comfortable. We mentioned we didn’t drink and they were very attentive to that and made sure all of our pina coladas and margaritas didn’t have alcohol. They have lots of alternative options. The private beach and dinner were phenomenal! We were in paradise the whole time.

Super awesome amazing time with friendly staff and great lunch. The catamaran is large and it wasn’t even close to capacity so we had tons of space to enjoy. The private island part was amazing too, would very much recommend. Thank you Luis, Luis, and Toto.

I really, really enjoyed my sunset boat tour with Louis #1 and Louis #2—they were both amazing! I traveled here by myself, and Valeria made me feel so comfortable and welcomed from the very beginning. I felt completely safe throughout the entire experience. I’m so glad I met her! The whole crew was incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive. Everything was beautiful, relaxing, and so much fun. This was truly an unforgettable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting. 10/10 experience! Thank you all for making my trip so special! ☀️🌊⛵✨

This boat tour was the highlight of my trip! It was the perfect amount of people, breathtaking views, delicious drinks and food, and we were able to swim to a private beach from the boat with the most beautiful sand. 10/10 I would book this again.

This review is a long time coming, I was in tamarindo back in March and fell in love with the city but mostly with Caballo Del Mar. Not only were they extremely accommodating and welcoming but I left feeling like family. Now I only book with them and have been on the boat 20+ times! Highly recommend booking with them any time you are in the area! Beyond well worth it and deserving♥️Pura Vida

Had an excellent time on the sunset boat tour! My partner and I booked this tour last minute and were pleasantly surprise. The group was smaller than the other boats which made it more intimate. The buffet was delicious and the drinks were unlimited, can’t get any better than that. Highly recommend!

We booked this sunset tour well in advance and unfortunately ended up scheduled on the only day of the week with a five-hour rainstorm. We asked the owner, Kelly, if we could reschedule, but were told no because his crew “does this all the time in this weather.” Just because they can operate in those conditions doesn’t mean they should. Looking back, I wish I had listened to my gut when Kelly told us, with a smile, “Oh no, I don’t go on the boat with you guys—I’m going home.” The conditions were rough. The waves were white-capping, several of us became seasick, and the amount of vomiting throughout the trip was hard to ignore. To make matters worse, the sail was broken, so the boat relied on small motors that didn’t seem suited for those conditions. Because of the heavy rain for most of the excursion, everyone was crowded into the small covered area at the back of the boat. The only bright spot was the crew onboard. They were friendly, professional, and did their best to make the experience enjoyable despite the circumstances. What made the situation even more frustrating was waking up the next day to the clearest, sunniest weather we had seen all week. Had we been allowed to reschedule—or had the boat and experience matched what was advertised—I might be writing a very different review. Instead, this felt like a company prioritizing revenue over customer experience. For an $1,800 excursion, that’s incredibly disappointing.

Excellent charter experience. The crew are fun and welcoming. The owner ( a bit of trivia… ask him what episode of House Hunter International did he and his wife star in!) was kind and excited for his new adventure and business! When we saw the dolphins the crew stopped the boat so we could swim alongside of them. They went above and beyond to ensure an enjoyable trip. The boat itinerary was fun and amazing. We saw dolphins, fish, starfish, rays, beautiful water, and enjoyed a well prepared lunch, then on to sunset !

I had an amazing time on this catamaran trip! The boat crew was very welcoming, making the experience even better. The service was top-notch; they served plenty of drinks, fresh fruit, and a lovely dinner. I’d recommend booking with them; the experience is worth it :)

This is a booze cruise - a bunch of teenagers over drinking and taking over the boat. Photos show a nice family atmosphere but that was not the case. We expected a “sunset cruise” as advertised and instead music blaring, nowhere to sit, and an overcrowded boat with teenagers staggering drunk by the end. My wife had a drink thrown on her. Viator denied our refund because they said it was not advertised as family friendly though one-year olds can sign up and photos show families on a tranquil boat. If Viator would like to reach out and offer refund, happy to discuss.

Absolutely would do it again. We had fun swimming. The food was good. They were a laid back crew. We went with friends and our daughter and had a great time.

The guys were amazing. At first we were concerned bc we were only English speaking but it turned out to be amazing.

This group is very organized. They took good care of us.I don't drink so they had water and soda. The catamaran needs a little work, but I felt safe. Everyone was much younger than me, but I enjoyed the contrast.

Really beautiful and enjoyable trip. The three guys working the boat were super friendly and were amazing at keeping the drinks flowing to everyone-alcohol or non alcohol. They stopped for the sunset and the meal was nice.

The sunset boat tour was great! The arrival area was easy to find, boarding on the boat was a smooth process. The crew didn’t talk much and let everyone enjoy themselves. On the way back to shore we were caught right in the middle of a crazy rainstorm. We hurried in for shelter and the crew ensured everyone’s safety. Within a few minutes it cleared up and we experienced the most amazing sunset. Worth the price.

This was a great crew. They really take good care of you with food & drink. Most importantly , safety. Don't forget Sunscreen, hat, & towel. Easy to find & very organized group. We had a very wavy day with high winds but it was still fun and beautiful.

HUGE thank you to the entire team. This catamaran cruise experience was absolutely amazing and unforgettable. My husband and I did this excursion on our honeymoon and it was spectacular. This tour felt very intimate compared to the other big-grouped catamaran tours. The crew was incredibly attentive — we swam to the beach, snorkeled, laid out on the big float. Dinner was absolutely delicious and authentic. We truly had the best time and highly recommend if you want a relaxing and beautiful day!!!!

This cruise was absolutely worth every single dime, and I can’t believe we didn’t do this until almost the last day or we would have done it AGAIN!!! Not only was the homemade food amazing, but the crew and the staff were so friendly, and the boat was crystal clean and if only they’d come and take care of my house that way, ha ha ha. Loved it, loved it!

The gentlemen who ran the catamaran are really nice and attentive. Checked to make sure everyone had a drink every 5 minutes. If you get motion sickness keep moving on. The guides kept checking on 2 people that were seasick. The ocean was very choppy. I know its mother nature and it happens but we were unable to snorkle due to the wind warning and the waves making it to . A couple of us had reached out to the tour company to see if it was still going and no response even after multiple attempts. Food was really good. It was nice to be back on shore. I'd never recommend during high winds.

The customer service that this company offers is above and beyond anything. I would book all of my tours through them if I could.

I booked this excursion because it included snorkeling equipment. Unfortunately, once we were already out on the boat I asked about the gear and a crew member said no, they didn’t have it. What made the experience worse was the response from the tour operator afterward. When I reached out to share my concerns and request a refund, the messages I received came across as passive aggressive rather than helpful or solution-oriented. This matter was dismissed as a misunderstanding due to a language barrier, however the gear advertised was not set out or offered to anyone on the boat from my knowledge. Additionally, the crew didn’t seem engaged with the passengers on board. It was packed to the point where individuals were having to sit on the roof as there were very limited seats. The bathroom had a few inches of standing water and did not lock. The first photo in this listing does not match the boat I went on to. They did not have life jackets, instead they offered everyone pool noodles despite the long swim to the beach. Overall, I would not recommend this excursion. Clear communication and professionalism go a long way, and unfortunately this experience lacked both.

Our family had an amazing time on the catamaran. It was definitely one of the highlights of our vacation! The crew was fantastic and created a really fun experience for everyone. They were attentive and made sure everyone was safe and comfortable getting on and off the boat. We loved swimming from the catamaran to the beautiful private beach. There were plenty of things to enjoy in the water, including noodles, snorkeling gear, paddle boards and a floating mat. My granddaughter especially loved jumping off the boat! The drinks and food were excellent. We had an amazing time and would definitely recommend this trip to anyone!!
