We'll stop at 2 beaches that are close in proximity to each other. Both beaches fall under the larger umbrella of Playa Avellana but are 2 separate beaches. The first is Playa Pinilla - a small but beautiful white sand beach that's perfect for a swim and a bit of sunbathing. About as chill a place as you can imagine. Then we'll head a bit further south to Playa Avellanas, where the sand is smooth and the water is fine. It's a wonderful beach for surfing, bodyboarding, and even fishing. Take a leisurely stroll along the long stretch of white sand beach.
We'll head a bit further south to a black sand beach - Playa Negra. The waves are great for surfing, snorkelling, bodyboarding, or a quick dip. The black sand is super fine, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Keep your eye out for little hermit crabs in the sand.

Fantastic morning out on the ATVs with Jean Pierre and the team! They were terrific with our group of 17 people ranging in age from 15 to 79! He even got us a side by side driven by a guide for the grandparents! Fun way to see some of the beaches, jungle and towns of Guanacaste! They made fun and safety the priorities and ensured we had a great time. We would highly recommend Mantaraya!

We went for a sunset tour with 4 people to multiple beaches in early July. We met JP when we booked and he helped us through the whole process of picking which tour we wanted to take. He was so friendly and accommodating. On the tour, we got to stop and see a beautiful beach where we got to walk around and meet Lola, the huge pig mascot of the restaurant at the beach! There were multiple monkey sightings and cattle who were walking in the street right beside us! It is a pretty dusty ride so be sure to bring some kind of eye protection. We would highly recommend this tour!

My family recently took an epic ATV excursion with Jean Pierre of Mantaraya adventures. We had a wonderful time exploring the area of Tamarindo and beyond. Jean Pierre was a wonderful tour guide and went above and beyond to make us feel at ease. He let us set the pace, and showed us the beauty of Costa Rica. We saw beautiful beaches, howler monkeys hanging from the trees, and stopped for a leisurely, delicious lunch at Lola’s. We were not rushed in any way and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Segway ATVs were new and in great condition and Jean Pierre took the newbies out on a practice trip with him around town before we even headed out. Jean Pierre also made it a point to take my handicapped nephew on his ATV personally so that he would feel comfortable riding. He took great care of my nephew and made sure he had a great time. Jean Pierre also took tons of pictures and videos and sent them to us right away. I would highly recommend an ATV tour with Mantaraya and Jean Pierre.

Jean Pierre was an excellent tour guide who made my husband & I have a great time. Very knowledgeable about the areas we seen & his generosity was out of this world. Buying us a beverage while we had a break in a small town. Took us to the amazing surfers beach. If you’re like us and stay close to town, this is key. No hotel pick up, no driving to a meeting point. You just walk over to the shop and your guide is waiting for you. The Guide - Jean Pierre (JP as we like to call him) is the BEST! Originally from Belgium, now operating a successful business in Tamarindo. He’s knowledgeable, kind, patient, energetic and most important….HE’S FUN! The Equipment…..brand new Segway ATVs that handle like a dream. We have a fair amount of experience with this mode of transportation and I’ll tell you right now……these machines are high end! The Course - stunning countryside, beach time, scenic views and wild life (fish, birds, a family of monkeys and on a good day maybe even turtles and crocodiles 😳!). Are you a beginner? No problem! This ATV tour was exactly what I was looking for. We drove through the jungle, on dirt roads, through rivers, near the ocean… The perfect way to witness Costa Rica's beauty. JP was an amazing guide, he was fun, engaged, and put just the right amount of emphasis on our security. Highly recommended, works for any age. Great value for money.

Just before arriving in downtown Tamarindo, we stopped by the Mantaraya ATV tours agency and took a photo of the name. The next day we booked the 3 hour southern tour 👌. A spectacular walk because you can visit several non-tourist beaches of southern Tamarindo. The finishing touch: " Cold pipe " as they say in Costa Rica to coconut water in the nut 😄 offered by the agency 👌. Fully recommended for adventure lovers.
