One could not ask for a better guide than Anwar. As others have said, go hungry and be prepared to try and learn about many foods unique to Jalisco. I consider myself pretty schooled in Mexican cuisine but Anwar opened my eyes and made me want to know more. A real highlight.

Itinerary
Our Gudalajara food tour offers guests a culinary experience around the city's medina. It's a carefully curated food adventure, led by our team of Guadalajara tastemakers. Before we get started, our tour reflects the local cuisine, and the limitations of street food vendors and local eateries mean we cannot cater for every dietary restriction. Here's an honest appraisal for the tour, so no-one is disappointed: ✘ Unsuitable for vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian and no pork diets as the number of tastings would be very limited. ✔ Gluten intolerance, mild nut allergies, and no seafood diets are possible, though some tastings do not have alternatives available If you are feeling adventurous for a foodie journey, read on!
This four-hour lunchtime food tour explores Santa Tere, one of Guadalajara’s most food-focused neighbourhoods. Known for its busy markets, street carts, and family-run eateries, this food tour showcases the real culinary side to city through 13+ tastings The experience begins with regional classics such as tamales de mole verde and the city’s signature torta ahogada. As the walk continues, you’ll sample comforting lunchtime favourites including chilaquiles rojos, rich birria broth, and both goat and beef birria tacos. Stops at local mercados introduce dishes like quesadillas de flor de calabaza, local queso tastings, sopita de frijoles, and carne en su jugo slow-cooked in its own juices. Along the way, you'll also try regional drinks too like tejuino con limón and refreshing horchata. The tour finishes with local sweets including creamy jericalla and tequila-flavoured ice cream. This guided lunchtime walk provides an authentic introduction to Guadalajara’s food culture.
The tour concludes after 3.5-4 hours. You'll leave not only full, but with a much deeper understanding of Guadalajaran food culture and the confidence to continue eating your way through the city.

Excellent tour. We learned about the foods we sampled as well as Mexican culture and food in general. A lot of foods. Come hungry!
Amazing food and very friendly hosts We would defenatly come back. Thank you to all the staff
Great tour! Anwar was a phenomenal guide and all of the food we tried was excellent. It was great to explore a local neighborhood and support the family food spots.
Anwar is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the food. He was so kind to my family. We were stuffed full of delicious food & drink by the end of the tour!
I went back in May and I can't fault the experience. I had a huge amount of food; mine happened to be a 121 experience since someone else bailed so maybe i had more chance to ask questions. The guide (Anwar) knew his stuff (cooking methods, etc) and was local. My favourite was the Champurrado (a hot chocolate with the right consistency) and the Carne en su jugo. I will let you all to discover the rest, but there are some surprising ingredients used. I had fun and highly recommend it.
We have taken food walking tours around the world. This was the BEST. Very informative about the foods and history.
We've lived in Guadalajara for 6 years but wanted to explore a new neighborhood. This tour introduced us to some new dishes and taught us more about some of our favorites. It was well paced and informative.
What a spectacular tour! I really enjoyed learning about the history of the local cuisine of Guadalajara and Jalisco, as well as the traditional recipes featured on the tour. The fact that the businesses are all local and family-owned was a huge plus for me as well. Our guide, Delfino, was knowledgeable and fun to spend time with. I’ll definitely be recommending this tour to anyone visiting the Guadalajara area!
Great food and a very knowledgeable guide! I thought I knew a lot about Mexican food, particularly in Jalisco, but I learned a good deal from this walk around one of Guadalajara’s most interesting - and authentic - neighborhoods. A well-timed tour, though definitely don’t eat breakfast before you go. There is a lot of fantastic eating here.
Anwar is an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate guide, this tour was everything I could’ve asked for. Very generous amount of food and the interconnections with history and land were a huge unexpected bonus.
Terrific food tour with Anwar! He related food to its history, and had pictures to share. He knows the neighborhood very well, and explained the history of this working class neighborhood bordering Colonia Americana Having lived in the U.S. and returning after university, he speaks very natural English...which makes a difference.
From the great tamales at the first stop, everything in between (tacos, birrieria) to the Passion Fruit sorbet at the final stop. You really need to take notes to keep track of so many tasty items. Everything was top notch and delicious. One of the best walking tours of Guadalajara that my wife and I truly enjoyed. Thanks Anwar for adding the local history, to watching them make tortillas, it was all fabulous.
We had an amazing time tasting local cuisine on this tour. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who is a food lover. Anwar is an excellent tour guide who describes each tasting & its history. Don't eat breakfast...
This was a delightful and delicious experience. Anwar is an exceptional tour guide who adds flavor (pun intended) by explaining cultural and historical significance and interesting local facts. There are so many wonderful tastes and opportunities to sample local cuisine. My wife and I got very full by the last restaurant. The final location for a cool and refreshing dessert was perfect.
I visited Guadalajara and decided to take the Tour - Gastronomy , it was a fantastic experience the different tastings . Local Anwar Guide with lots of information was very pleasant answering all our questions
