We booked a local food tour of Guadalajara and our guide was Elena. We met up in the plaza and she gave us a rundown of the spots we were going to hit and the food we would be eating. Each spot was very local and authentic and the food wad delicious. We had a great time!

I highly recommend this tour. Thiago is an excellent guide. He is friendly and knowledgeable. The recommended dishes were tasty and the staff at each restaurant were welcoming. I have arthritis but the walking pace/distance didn't bother me at all.
Thiago was our tour guide when we visited Guadalajara for the World Cup 2026 and he went above and beyond to ensure we had a great selection of foods from the region. We were running a little late as Mexico were playing that same evening, the streets were packed, and the police had cordoned off numerous key streets around Plaza de la Liberacion. Thiago was very understanding and waited for us to get to the meeting point. As for the food recommendations themselves, Thiago was very knowledgeable and answered our many questions about the food in the region. He also provided us with some history of the city. We would recommend the tour to all those that want a true taste of the region and to learn about the Tapatio way of life.
Santiago was an excellent guide. In addition to taking us to a number of exceptional eateries that covered a wide variety of cuisines, he included bits of historical information about the areas of Guadalajara we were traversing that made the tour more interesting. His English was articulate and clear. Highly recommended!
Trip Advisor failed to request my WhatsApp number, which meant that the tour guide could not reach me with changes to the tour schedule. When I reached out to Trip Advisor, their only concern was avoiding a refund. Zero for customer prep. Zero for customer service.
The tour was cancelled and I was never notified. I found out only when I waited at the designated place and no o e showed up. When I contacted them they said they were sorry but had to cancel the tour. I asked them to refund me money but they gave not responded. I will file a complaint.
We enjoyed our tour and were able to try some interesting local foods. We visited the Mercado Corona as well as a tortilla factory and a restaurant famous for its birria. Our guide was friendly and gracious, and we had a fun time.
We had a great time with Elena. She showed us where to go, what to order, and what we need to try. She was fun, personable, and helpful with suggestions of where to eat and what to see for our time Guadalajara. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful experience with Pablo. He gave us the opportunity to try local foods and be learn more about the culture of Guadalajara.
The food was good and offered a nice range of local flavours, giving us a real taste of GDL. Having a private tour was a first for us, and it made the experience feel especially personal. Our guide, Santiago, was fantastic! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with his time. He shared plenty of helpful insights beyond just food and was definitely the highlight of the tour. I’d recommend going earlier in the day to experience the market at its liveliest — we booked a later time slot (4pm) and a few places were already closing (something I wish I’d known in advance). I also hadn’t realized at first that the food was an additional expense, which is worth keeping in mind before booking.
If you are visiting Guadalajara, this tour is a must! Its a fantastic mix of historical sightseeing and visiting various different places for the most authentic and delicious street food. Thiago was an absolute pleasure to have as a guide. He was incredibly patient with us and took the time to answer any questions we had. My favourite food stop were definitely the fish and shrimp tacos stop. I dont care where in the world you're from - i can promise you you've never had a fish taco like the ones they had there. The tortas are strongly recommended as well, with a unique and interesting story of how they were invented. Overall, 10/10 would definitely do this tour again!
We had such a great experience trying a wide variety of street foods - freshly made tortillas, bean and potato tacos, burritas (smaller burritos), birria tacos, fish tacos - so many wonderful flavors! As an added bonus, we were able to sample some local fruit that is only in season this time of year - dragonfruit, wild plum, and more. Important tip - come hungry!! We only had 1 of each thing and were completely full and then some afterward! Our guide Santiago was a very gracious and interesting host. He gave us so much information about the local history and culture as we walked through the pretty streets of Centro Historico. He also showed us some beautiful murals at the city hall building that depict the founding of Guadalajara. It was all quite fascinating and his enthusiastic and descriptive explanations were delivered expertly. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking a perfect balance of yummy food and cultural history all in one!
This was an excellent tour. Tlane was very knowledgeable and super fun to talk with during the tour. Good food too!
Had such a great time with Tlane - she was really outgoing, kind, and knowledgeable. The market was a great experience, especially with an insider who knows the best spots to eat + check out. Everything was so tasty, especially the menudo! I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting GDL for the first time. (Heads up, bring cash as the food isn't covered in the tour price.)
This was a wonderful experience filled with delicious food! Our tour guide Thiago was extremely knowledgeable about the city and took us to local vendors in the area. We tried various snacks such grasshoppers and pine bugs. We ate fresh fruit like sweet limes and wild plums. Thiago even took us to a special street food market that is only open on Monday nights. The food was amazing and so many different dishes to try. We ate ourselves into a food coma. This was a worthwhile experience for our first night in the city!
Tlane was our travel guide and she was amazing! She knew a lot of knowledge about not only the city but the street food scene and gave some great tips and suggestions on where we could eat while in the city. I initially had some concerns about eating street food and at the market, but she put us at ease immediately with her recommendations. My son did the tour with me, and as a teenager he’s typically a picky eater, but he ate everything at every stop (4 stops-including desert). Tlane’s passion for the city, the culture and the food was very obvious. Next time we’re in the city we will definitely book her again.
Great food! Our guide Tlane was super nice and super knowledgeable on local cuisine. I would definitely recommend this tour. It was also a good value.
Nice way to get a true vantage point on the city. Food was excellent, and my guide, Thiago, was kind, intelligent and a pleasure to roam the city with.
Our guide Thiago was awesome! He was super knowlegable about everything that could be of interest to a tourist in the downtown area, and he introduced us to some delicious, affordably priced local delicacies.
Thiago talked us through the historic central, its side streets, and Mercado Libertad - San Juan de Dios, the biggest market in town. There are street foods, 3 peso tacos, unique fruits, sweets, and so many more. Awesome experience! Even my teenage kids enjoyed it.
Great food tour. Thiago took us to areas of the historic area to sample foods we had never tried. He explained all about the food, where and why locals prefer them. He gave us recommendations on where to eat and pointed out deserts native to Guadalajara. We had a great time and would recommend the food tour highly.
Tlana knows the best places for tacos in the Centro! My spouse and I would’ve been very overwhelmed had we gone into the market on our own. All the spots were delicious and the Coke and a tequila ice cream were the perfect cap to our mid-day feast. Tlana even took us to a luchador stall so we could look for a Penta replica mask (sadly, it wasn’t the right one). We’d definitely take another tour with Tlana next time were are in GDL!
This food tour was amazing. meeting our guide Thiago in the square went well. He introducedus to a variety of local fruits, somethings we have seen at the market but never purchased. We tried a wide range of local cusine from a variety of settings from resturant to food court style. We took the tour at 4 pm our bellies were full and exhausted by the time we got back to our hotel. This tour is a definite must! We did have to pay for the food extra but between 6 people were able to share food items more than enough tastes! Highly recommended! Jeanna Warren
The tour guide,Tlane was really great. Very informative. Took us to the market where we got to eat some good local food. Good tour in general
Can’t say enough good things about this tour! Money well spent with a mixture of cultural, city, and gastronomical history. Our tour guide Thiago was phenomenal. He spent the extra time to explain things and walked extra slow for my disabled father in law. I recommend to anyone visiting the city.
Thiago is a kind, enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide. I learned so much more with him than I ever would have exploring alone, and felt very safe. I would recommend him to anybody traveling the area.
We truly enjoyed our tour with Thiago! He gave us so much history about the city and the country all the while walking us everywhere. He was able to answer our questions and gave us lots of opportunities to try local foods. We even tried lots of fruits that were new to us.
Amazing history to the city and food. The market visits, Roy's tacos and local fruit were highlights. Highly recommend!
The food tour was amazing! Our guide, Tlane, was extremely knowledgeable and provided us with information about the area along the walk over from Plaza de Armas to the Mercado, making the short (>.5 mile) stroll more personable. Before going in, our first stop was at a cart selling Tejuino, a popular drink in the city. It was the only thing we tried we didn’t like, but that was just our personal preference. Tlane guided us safely through the busy market, and our second stop was at a seafood place. We were initially wary but enjoyed an amazing $1 shrimp ceviche tostada. Then we went to a stall specializing in menudo, which was similarly inexpensive and delicious. Second-to-last was a wonderful birria place with delicious quesabirria. After, we asked our guide where we could get dessert and she obliged us, taking us to a stand selling flan in which they let you keep the ceramic bowl it comes in. At every place we went to, she introduced us to the staff, who were all very friendly, and provided information on the cultural background about the food and the market itself. She advised us on the places that are not good to eat at, and even after the tour was over she stayed to help a member of our group find a particular souvenir she wanted. The tour was fantastic overall, and I highly recommend Tlane as a guide.
We walked through Mercado Libertad, a HUGE collection of shops, stores, and restaurants, to find some of the best food available. "Queen Jin" (she'll tell you the story) led us right to her favorite food, explaining all about it as we sampled. I don't know if we'll ever find the same places again, but it was entertaining, educational, and delicious!
Was running late to the meet up due to issues with the bus, which was 100% my fault not leaving early enough. However, I tried for a long time to reach the guide in an attempt to let them know I’d be late and was looking to meet up with them somewhere along the route so I’d could attend at least part of the tour. The guide ignored my calls and 24 hours after the tour still hasn’t answered my messages. I was only able to reach Viator support who said my refund was up to the guide, and could take several days. Very disappointed.
Not only did we get introduced to great local foods we also had an excellent experience with our guide, Carlos. As a local his personal stories of the local foods he introduced us to made the experience that much more enjoyable. Ask for Carlos! But, you will enjoy the heart of the city along with a variety of foods (including dessert and drink). Buen Provecho!
We really enjoyed this tour. The food was awesome and our tour guide was really engaging. She chose a good variety of food for us in the indoor market and also provided us with some historical and cultural background about the city and recommended other things to see and do. If you love food, book this tour!
Don't bother booking this tour. The guide won't show up, Viator will not provide support. Probably better to use a different platform.
We enjoyed the tour, felt like we got a good taste of the culture and it was good for the price. Our guide was over 30 minutes late to meet us and there was no communication from the company. This was frustrating as it was a good tour and we were all getting hungry. Other than that good tour and good food.
Carlos was very courteous, knowledgeable and really know his places to go eat authentic food from the region. Me and my wife had a great time visiting the Mercado Libertad - San Juan De Dios and Mercado Corona. Word of caution, go with an empty stomach in order to eat your heart out! Cheers. Angel.
Diego is a really fantastic tour guide. He recommended the best food spots in the market. I enjoyed everything I ate and drank, and especially his company as well!
Found the tour to be a great way to learn about the city, it's art and culture but most importantly, great food. Our guide was knowledgeable, attentive and genuinely seemed to enjoy his job and love his city. Wonderful variety of items to taste and try - go hungry and/or bring a friend to share a few items with - so you can try more!
Guadalajara and Jalisco have very unique foods that you won't find in a typical "Mexican" restaurant in the US and many other parts of Mexico. Our tour guide Carlos was very personable, we talked about a lot different stuff, from food to Netflix to travel experiences. Definitely pace yourself, because you have the opportunity to order whatever you want at each station, but keep in mind that you will be eating multiple delicious things!
Tlane is an excellent guide, good talker, fun and knows Top-rated street food spots. I recommend it to discover rich, authentic and super well priced food.
On our tour we were accompanied by Tlane as a guide and we really enjoyed it we ate typical dishes in markets that is the best way to know the traditional dishes of the places. We ate tacos, birria, mondongo, barbecue browns and even touched the dessert of Jericayas 👌🏾
