Loved this tour from start to finish. Diego is really cool, super nice and knows a ton about the history, architecture, and culture of the city. You can tell he has a deep love for his city. The food was incredible, and it was pretty cool to get to eat at Mercado libertad with the locals. Honestly the food there was my favorite food I’ve eaten in Mexico so far. Diego showed us many government buildings and cathedrals, and explained the history of the architecture of all of it. It was interesting to learn about how Catholicism shaped the development of the region, and the main cathedral and surround churches were stunning. 10/10. Diego is the best.

Diego was the best guide I ever had! His knowledge of the city and food was incredible and had the best personality and great to visit with. Couldn’t recommend him more highly!!
Diego was an awesome guide and the perfect person to introduce us to Guadalajara. His passion for the city shines through in every stop, from its history and architecture to its incredible food scene. The food was amazing, and Diego's connections with the local food market outlets made the experience feel really authentic. He's friendly, engaging, and happy to answer any question you throw at him. It was great to share some drinks together too as we watch a game of the FIFA World Cup. One tip: come hungry, but pace yourself, there's a lot of delicious food along the way! Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Guadalajara.
This is the best food tour I have experienced. My husband and I have traveled a lot and frequently start with a walking and/or food tour and have always had fun but hands down the knowledge, expertise, desire to support local economies and friendliness that we experienced on Diego’s tour was out of this world!
Diego was a great guide, clearly a local known by many of the people around! Knowledgeable about food, history, and politics of the area and happy to answer all questions!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Diego learning all about Guadalajara and sampling its delicious dishes. Diego is super engaging and really knows his stuff - he is knowledgeable about his city, its rich history and architecture as well as its food culture. He is on a first-name basis with the friendly teams at the specialty restaurants we visited (he’s been going to many of the places on the tour since he was a kid). A word of advice - pace yourself during the tour. There are so many delicious things to try, you’ll want to save room for them all!
Here’s a polished review you can use: I had an amazing food tour in Guadalajara! Every stop offered something delicious and authentic—truly a great way to experience the local flavors and culture. The food was outstanding from start to finish, and I got to try a variety of dishes I wouldn’t have found on my own. Our tour guide, Diego, was incredibly knowledgeable and made the experience even better. He shared interesting history, local insights, and really brought each location to life. You can tell he’s passionate about what he does. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Guadalajara—it’s a perfect mix of great food, culture, and a fantastic guide!
We had a great time with Diego. He is very knowledgeable, personable and provides a great tour. Highly recommended if you want to learn some history and eat bomb food. Come hungry!
Diego was a wonderful tour guide. He was full of so much interesting knowledge about Guadalajara and took me to so many delicious food spots. It was a perfect introduction to the city. I would highly recommend anyone visiting take a tour with Diego!
We enjoyed learning about the markets and trying delicious foods. Diego has a lot of great information to share. The birria was especially delicious.
In addition to introducing everyday foods and beverages, Diego was exceptionally knowledgeable about the history, architecture and culture of Guadalajara.
This food tour was a highlight of my time in Guadalajara. Everything was well organized and authentic, and the food was outstanding from start to finish. We visited local spots I never would have found on my own and learned so much about the city’s food and culture along the way. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about Guadalajara. The pacing was perfect and we were very well fed. I loved that the tour supports small, local businesses. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Guadalajara. A must do experience.
It was a fun day exploring the city and tasting different kinds of food. Highly recommend this tour while you are in Guadalajara!
We had an extraordinary experience on this private food tour in Guadalajara with our two children. Our guide, Diego, was outstanding — warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly thoughtful about making the tour engaging for both adults and kids. He took us to local markets and hidden food spots we never would have found on our own, with absolutely delicious food at every stop. Diego also shared deep insights into the history and culture of Guadalajara, which added so much depth to the experience. The pace was relaxed and family-friendly, and our children felt included throughout. This tour was the perfect introduction to the city — delicious, educational, and truly memorable. Highly recommend!
Diego spent a good part of a day with me, in Centro. There was food talk, and history, and he patiently helped me with some gift shopping (including gifts for myself!). Later he sent me suggestions and information on other areas I had asked about. It was a great way to start my trip!
Lots more than just a food tour! Diego was able to give us the history of the city and give suggestions on places to go while we were there. He had pictures of what Guadalajara looked like in the past vs. what it looked like now. The food was wonderful and they were able to accommodate different food preferences even me being a vegetarian.
Diego was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable on both Guadalajara history and food. Would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about the area.
The guide will take you to a market where they serve local foods. He will also tell a little bit of history about Guadalajara.
It was our first time in Guadalajara and in Mexico. Having this tour on the first day was just a fantastic start to our experience. The food, the walk, and the suggestions for our next days were just great! With Diego, we could experience the things we would never discover on our own. In fact, we so much liked our lunch at El Pilon that we couldn't leave Guadalajara without having another meal there. But it's not only about food - it's about showing the Guadalajara way, the orientation, the best of the city.
We had a wonderful time touring the market and historic center. Diego selected amazing foods for us to sample and provided us with the cultural significance and personal stories making for an engaging and delicious tour.
Honestly didn’t expect much more than a few food stops but we got so much interesting information from Diego. We enjoyed chatting with him and spending a good part of the day in the town center. The food was excellent and a great opportunity to be a little adventurous!
Our group was visiting Guadalajara to celebrate milestone birthdays and decided that we wanted a low-key itinerary unlike our trips from years past. Although Diego started out by asking if we were having mid-life crises, he quickly more than redeemed himself with the attention and care he showed us during our time with him. Diego's love for his hometown shone brightly as he shared Guadalajara's rich history with us. No matter what random tangential question we threw at him, he was able to answer it and then some. Diego's interactions with local food and market vendors showcased his ability to connect with people as well as his respect for those who watched him grow and mature. The food was unbelievable and getting to see / taste / shop for things that you would not be able to get mainstream was the highlight of the tour. Diego ensured that our tour was filled with experiences that he considered the heart of the city. I would highly recommend Diego if you wanting to learn more about Mexican culture from someone who exudes the true essence of Guadalajara.
Diego is honestly one of the best tour guides I've ever had! He was not just knowledgeable on the food/history that was planned, but also random things we would ask him in passing. The food we tried was amazing, with great history behind it. And when we wanted to try other foods that weren't on the itinerary, he was happy to find it and even help us get samples of others. It was such a perk to have Diego show us around the market since he was able to communicate with the vendors. We never felt rushed, especially as a big group, and he even became our official photographer, suggesting photo ops. If you're ever in Guadalajara, I'd highly recommend him. By the end he became one of the group, we felt so lucky to have found him to guide us around!
We booked this tour for a girls' trip. Diego was very knowledgeable and his love and pride for Guadalajara was palpable. We had a great time - he answered all of our questions walking through the market and around the city. The tour was relaxed and we didn't feel rushed. He took lots of great pictures for our group in front of landmarks and we enjoyed getting to know him. By the end of the day, he definitely felt more like a friend, not just a guide! Would highly recommend!
Amazing food tour. Felt and ate like a local, learned a good amount on information and history of the area. Really enjoyed learning while walking around. Diego was full of knowledge and so friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling in the area.
Diego was super awesome! He really knew what he was talking about and doing and you could tell he had built personal relationships with everyone at the market. The food was amazing too. It really is a worthwhile experience and a MUST do when you’re in Guadalajara out of all the street food tours. He’s super personable and makes you feel like a close friend and you know it’s genuine. We’re so grateful and so glad we booked this experience. If you’re doubting it, don’t. Just book. He has such a passion for it all and the fact he grew up around all of the people there was a plus. Thank you Diego! Also… I know the birria is optional but you have to do it. I’m not a fan of goat but they really do such a great job of seasoning and treating their meat.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour! Our tour guide Diego was so well knowledge about the history and the culture in the areas we visited. The food stops we are delicious! My friends and I had such a wonderful time and would definitely do other tours with Diego!
I had an amazing time on this tour in Guadalajara! Diego is incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much interesting history about each site we visited. He gave us plenty of time to explore and shop, and also took us to some fantastic local spots to try delicious food. The tacos de barbacoa were unforgettable! The tour was well-organized and felt very personalized. Diego offers other tours too—honestly, I wish I had booked all my tours with him. Highly recommend!
Amazing, the best tour we had. This was such a great insight into the food and city of Guadalajara. Amazing!
Diego was an amazing guide. He took us to some of the best birras and margarita. We learnt a lot about Guadalajara . We highly recommend it. He even greeted us at our hotel.
This was our favorite tour during our time in Guadalajara! Everything we tried was delicious. Diego was able to tailor the tour to what we wanted to eat and do. My boyfriend wanted to try lengua so he brought us to an amazing spot and then he helped us buy cowboy boots and hats for a themed wedding that we were in town for. Diego is extremely knowledgeable and I would definitely recommend booking this tour if you want to check out Mercado Libertad.
Happy that Diego arrived early! He's very friendly, knows the authentic places to go to, easy-going, and professional. The tour included all my favorite dishes, which is a plus. Its super affordable and unlike my previous tour with another company, he's genuin. I'm booking another tour during my visit...10 stars!
Diego was incredible, full of information and very flexible. Inside the market we had extra juice and tacos, Diego’s knowledge helped us appreciate the incredible place that much more.
Diego food tour was a wonderful experience! Not only did Diego give us an incredible lesson on the food and city of Guadalajara, he made the tour very personal and shared his favorite places to eat growing up as a child . He also was extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions with ease and grace! Highly recommend this tour with Diego. You won’t be disappointed .
Our food tour with Diego was fabulous. It wasn’t just a food tour, we learned about Guadalajara’s history, architecture and culture. And the food was delicious. We went to places that Diego had been going since he was a child. We were stuffed by the end of the tour. Awonderful experience!
The tour was excellent. Diego was a gracious, knowledgeable tour guide. The food was delicious and the city tour was informative. It was altogether a wonderful experience and I highly recommend taking the this tour.
Diego was very knowledgeable, friendly, and took us the hidden gems. If you are considering doing a food tour in Guadalajara, this is the one!
This was an excellent food and historical tour of Centro. Diego was a great tour guide and we even added a seafood stop on our tour. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Guadalajara.
My husband and I had a great food tour with our guide Diego. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Guadalajara. He took us through the large market where we experienced a cultural assortment of food and goods. Diego was a pleasure to have as a guide.
We had a fantastic time with Diego on this tour! He met us at our hotel and took us to the San Juan de Dios market. Diego has a deep love for Guadalajara and shared a lot of history and local color. The market is amazing — huge, colorful, and bustling, with all kinds of food and merchandise. We ate some of the most delicious food! The barbacoa tacos and torta ahogada were both wonderful, so tasty and made with love by some of the best vendors in the market. Diego also helped us shop for a few items we wanted, like boots and Christmas ornaments. His knowledge of the market, both its history and the vendors, must be unparalleled. We walked to lunch after the market and had a wonderful time eating birria and a local restaurant, capping off a great tour. We would highly recommend this tour with Diego!
This is an amazing bilingual experience, you get to experience the authentic side of Guadalajara cuisine and culture. Diego did amazing job allowing us to really experience Guadalajara.
Diego shared some fantastic places to eat authentic Mexican food. I loved tacos at Felippes for breakfast and unbelievable ceviche at another stall in Mercado Libertad. The highlight was lunch of traditional Birria in a beautiful old hacienda El Pilón de Los Arrieros. It was so good we went back for dinner the next night!! Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge on historical sites we visited along the way.
Diego is amazing! He explains so much of the history and really customizes the tour to what you are interested in. I mentioned another Mercado nearby and he was happy to take me there. Definitely recommend this tour!!
Diego was very knowledgeable, offered multiple recommendations based on what we were asking for, and answered a bunch of questions we had about anything and everything, not just food. For the tour you will be going to a local market (very authentic Mexican), as well as a nice restaurant after a walk. Food was delicious, and the tour filled with interesting information about Guadalajara. It's a private tour, so make sure to ask for recommendations. Diego was very generous and everything he recommended was fantastic.
We had a great time with our tour guide Diego. He was very knowledgeable and prepared as he took us on this food tour. It wasn’t only the food. He explained to us about the history and culture of the area. We got to try fruit that he was familiar with, that has been cultivated in Mexico, Between 5000-6000 years. We met up with some friends at a wedding after our tour the following day and we had so many great facts from our food tour that people that live in Mexico other life didn’t even know. Diego was very personable gave us our space to shop and as we went through the food tour, He was very attentive to us. I would even go as far as saying that if I come back with family, I would take the tour with them again if it’s with Diego.
My husband and I had a wonderful time with Diego. He was so knowledgeable about the city and its history that it truly amazed us. Diego was also very accommodating to our needs and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour and visit to Guadalajara.
Diego was awesome and extremely knowledgeable about the historic sites we visited. He was extremely accommodating and at no time, did we feel pressured to move at a faster pace. During the time we were there. an issue with international cell service caused us to be "disconnected" outside of hotel WiFi. He helped us find a place to remedy the issue, so we had cell service during the rest of our stay. Diego is also excellent in keeping in touch with you. We chose to do this tour as a couple and that was one of the best decisions we have made compared to other tours elsewhere we have taken in the past. It is well worth the extra charge. His tour was the most memorable time of our stay in Guadalajara. We would highly suggest this tour and do it EARLY in your stay. He has great recommendations for places to see and eat. That way, you can take advantage of those to plan the rest of your stay. Had we more time, we would not have hesitated to take another of his tours to Chapala or a tequila experience. You will not be disappointed with the tour! Very highly recommended! Diego’s Guadalajara food tour is an exquisite mosaic of flavors, expertly blending traditional recipes and modern twists. His deep knowledge of local history and culture enriches the experience, making it a delectable celebration of Mexican gastronomy. We really enjoyed our time and highly recommend it! Muchas Gracias Diego!
Excellent tour! Diego grew up in the area and has a great understanding of how history, culture and food all connect. The food in the market was delicious and Diego also provided a locals perspective on Guadalajara history as you walk to the final food spot. I really enjoyed both the food and Diego's company. Highly recommend.
Diego provided a perfect tour of food in the market. It could be easy to get overwhelmed, but he knew exactly where to go to get the best “barbacoa”, “tortas ahogadas”, and the finale “birria” in a picturesque plaza we would never have explored, if not for Diego. Diego grew up in Guadalajara and has personal connection to this city. Highly recommend his tour.
