Itinerary
Before arriving at Chapala Lake, there will be a stop at this ranch, built in 1980, with more than 500 hectares.
We begin our tour to Chapala starting with the visit to the old station of the French facade train whose construction was completed around 1920. To continue with the beautiful boardwalk, we walk and admire the view of the largest lake from Mexico. By December 1955, Lake Chapala was in one of its worst droughts, that is why it is decided to take the virgin of Zapopan and make a pilgrimage looking for the miracle of the rain, as a result of this event in June 1956, it rained so much in the storm that it recovered and thanks to this miracle a thank-you mass is celebrated every year on the 1st of July.
Piedra Barrenada is a restaurant located at the shore of Chapala Lake, which offers good quality food at an excellent price.
Ajijic is a town located in the municipality of Chapala, it is located in the surroundings of Lake Chapala
We will continue our visit through the Floresta, a place where foreigners are looking for retire fleeing the extreme climates of their cities. We stop in Ajijic and free time is given to know. We board the truck and We will transfer to Piedra Barrenada, where the tourist is recommended to take the food at his expense. We conclude at the meeting point indicated by the guide and we undertake our return.

Ronny was very knowledgeable about the history of Mexico, Guadalajara, the towns we visited and Vicente Fernandez. Unfortunately the Tres Potrillos ranch was closed and we were very disappointed. The place that we stopped at for lunch was delicious!
We had an amazing time on this tour! The vibes and locations were absolutely awesome. Everything was well organized, and the experience was both interesting and fun. Our tour guide, Carmen, was the best! She was knowledgeable and made the whole experience even better with her energy and explanations. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and driver. 100% Highly recommend this tour!
Good way to see the lafgest inland lake and cute art town, best lunch in past 10 days of central Mexico.
This was a great experience to explore different parts of Mexico. First stop Vincent Fernandez Ranch, second stop the lake town of Chapala, third stop a nice seafood restaurant on the lake and last stop Ajijic. It was a nice day with our tour guide Sergio.
We had a great tour guide who spoke both English and Spanish. The tour was everything promised and our driver did a superb job navigating the narrow roads in the towns. We had a wonderful time.
Our guide Roni was excellent. Very professional and knowledgeable. We love the route we did and the places we got to visit.
Our tour guide Sergio was top notch, great English and so accommodating. The van was super comfortable and a lovely ride.
Jose Luis was an awesome tour guide. He spoke fluent English and Spanish Jose Luis was easy going and had lots of conversation,
The transport was on time and very comfortable! The two guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The only drawback was the lunch. I thought we would be able to choose a restaurant in Ajijic, but instead the van took us to a tourist trap called La Iguana, which was a bit disappointing.
Roberto, from Panoramex Tours & Travel, was an amazing tour guide. He was very warm and welcoming guide. His vast experience and knowledge of the locations we tour made us excited and immersed. He took us to Los 3 Portillos, Chapala Lake, and Ajijic. He took us to an amazing seafood restaurant with a lovely view of the Chapala lake. We also appreciated a stop at a local candy store. Thank you for the amazing experience Roberto.
Nice tour relaxing trip. On time picked up and tour guide Noberto speak good English. Recommend this trip
Sergio, our tour guide, was very informative and the tour was very relaxing and enjoyable. Chapala is a very pretty town. Enjoyed learning about the history of the region.
Sergio was a great tour guide! He was so enthusiastic and shared great facts. This tour takes you to small lake towns where locals hang out. The time spend at Lake Chapala was just enough. Lunch was delicious. And a quick drive through tour of Ajijic to end the day.
The tour guide and the mini-bus driver were top notch. It would have been helpful at the start of the tour to know the itinerary, because our party ended up eating lunch at Chapala because we did not know that we were scheduled to eat later on in the afternoon, and so we missed lots of Chapala. Also, I understand why the tour bus makes stops at Vicente Fernandez house and the lady selling candies and sweets but I would rather have had more time in Chapala.
Wonderful day trip to get out of the city and view Lake Chapala. Guide was knowledgeable and we were allowed ample time to explore two towns on the Lake.
We took two tours with Amigo Tours in Guadalajara, Lake Tapala and Ajijic and the Tequila Tour the next day. We also used them twice in Mexico City. We found them to be completely reliable, their guides were informative and fun so we had 4 enjoyable and interesting days out with them on our Mexican trip. An especial mention to Carmen who led both our tours in Guadalajara. She has a great personality and sense of humour and provided us with a lot of information, and I have to say a lovely singing voice when she gave us a rendition of a Vicente Fernandez song ! And not forgetting the drivers who were great too. We’ll be recommending Amigo to friends who are planning to visit Mexico.
Very good tour experience. The guide was knowledgeable and their were several interesting stops along the tour.
Our driver/guide Imberto was fabulous. The lake was beautiful and the town very picturesque. We had a lovely time with the other couples that we on the tour. Dinner was great.
I enjoyed this tour. To start the day I was picked up by the tour bus, not at my hotel, but at the house North of the city where I was staying. I thought that this was a really exceptional service as I didn't expect them to come so far to get me. Once we had collected the rest of the tourists (six of us in total), we headed for Chapala with a stop along the way at the ranch of Vicente Fernández and the biggest cowboy shop in the country. We then headed to Chapala where we had some time to walk around and explore, before heading to Ajijic (with a stop along the way to view the Presidential compound) where we had more time to walk around, and then to an organised lunch by the lake and a boat ride, before we turned around and came back to Guadalajara (with a roadside stop where we were able to buy local sweets) where I was dutifully dropped off at where I was staying. As with all tours, to some extent the enjoyment of it hinges on the group that you are with. I booked the tour in English however as four out of the six people in the tour group only spoke Spanish this meant the tour was bilingual. This was fine, but obviously meant there wasn't a lot of bonding/conversation between the tour-goers, and it did involve some standing around while the tour guide explained for four people in Spanish and then two people in English. This is no criticism of the guide at all, he really did a fantastic job. The structure of the tour however gave the tourists 1.5 hours to wander around Chapala and 1 hour in Ajijic, which was lovely but as a solo traveller it would have been nice to wander with the rest of the tour group - a hard thing to do when you have no common language between you. This is but a minor criticism and overall I had a nice day. I think given the amount of free time there is to roam by oneself it would be a nice tour to take as part of a group, but as a solo traveller I maybe would have enjoyed something more "structured" as tours go with more information about the place we were visiting and what we were seeing rather than just being dropped off to walk around the towns on ones own. Nevertheless, an enjoyable day.
The whole trip was memorable, however I thoroughly enjoy Chapala, it was amazing and extremely tranquil with a lot going on.
The tour guide personnel was excellent, no complaints driver is by far the best driver. It was just amazing hands down the best tour ever totally recommend it for others to join.
Ajijic, nice town, great places, nice views, great people, art, recreations, wall art, the island the big lake
Wear comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy. You will do it all. Great day at Lake Chapala and the arts town Ajijic.
Our guide, a retired architect, was eager to share his knowledge along the way. The stop at the ranch of Vicente Fernandez was interesting because of the late entertainer’s status in Mexico. The lake and the towns were attractive and the restaurant at the end was a pleasant surprise. Great view, good food and service.
Air conditioned transport from Guadalajara to the lake. Easy and relaxing day out with a few interesting stops. Opportunity to have a wander round and grab a beer in Chapala and Ajijic before lunch and a mini boat trip before returning stopping to buy local candy. A nice day out.
Jesus as our tour guide he was very well trained n knowledgeable of the Tour to Lake Chapala. We were picked up on time from our Hotel. It was a very nice experience, we had a fun day!! Thank you Beny
First off, the communication with the tour provider was excellent. They confirmed our pickup time and were there at exactly the time they said. The bus was comfortable and the tour guide very knowledgeable and very attentive to our needs. Our stops in Chápala and Ajijic had ample time for us to explore all the town had to offer and to taste the local food. The weather was wonderful , be sure to take a light jacket as the Chapala Lake is a bit windy. It’s absolutely beautiful and boat tours are available from local providers there. Make sure to take plenty of water on the trip. The stops were very good and we were told all the history of all the places we went. I will be recommending this tour to everyone , it was absolutely great and our tour guide Carmen was absolutely wonderful.
Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Guadalajara area. Lake Chapala and Ajijic are a lovely little get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our tour guide Norberto was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable, and went out of his way to make sure we were having a good experience. It was a very enjoyable trip.
Best tour in Chapala and Ajijic. Norberto gave us detailed explanations about the history and the culture of each city. We visited lakes, markets and churches. Learned many interesting facts about the city’s origin and culture. After the tour was over, Norberto helped us find an excellent restaurant for lunch with a beautiful view of lake Ajijic. Would recommend this tour for anyone!
We were so thrilled to have this opportunity to explore lake chapala and nearby Ajajic. Luis as our guide for the day did a great job of keeping us informed and entertained. It was incredibly enjoyable and this tour has the most beautiful views and landscape of the area. Don't miss this one!
While visiting Guadalajara, I booked a tour to nearby Lake Chapala and Ajijic with Amigo Tours through Viator. I did not get to take the tour, as the company contacted me approximately 19 hours before the tour was scheduled to depart, informing me that they did not have a group, and proceeded to upsell me a tour to Tequila instead. They lost one star for selling a service that they could not provide, and I deducted a second star due to disorganization when multiple people asked me numerous times for my pick-up address. Deducted a third star because the refund takes 3-7 days, depending on your bank. If you had booked a tour for a large group, you could be seriously screwed. I hope you have better luck on your adventure!
Amazing tour!! Our tour guide, Carmen and Edgar were amazing!!! We were driven to our destinations safely! And the tour was amazing !!! I definitely recommend!
Tour guide was great at the history telling part but we didn’t really get to explore Ajijic, we only sat in van and then we’re dropped off at a restaurant that tour guide chose. We were hoping to have time to look around shops in Ajijic. We wouldn’t recommend this tour.
We enjoyed this tour. It was a good mix of commentary by the guide with free time. Ajijic is more interesting than Chapala. Our guide was terrific.
Tour guide was not very engaging. Although the sites were nice. He spend more time talking with the driver.
Chapala was by far my favorite stop. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and even offered extra stops since we had extra time
Really good way to see the lake and surrounding towns if you are new to the area.. Really informative guide who knew a lot about not only the local area but also other parts of Mexico and it's history and culture. I really enjoyed the day and would recommend it to anybody who either just wants a single visit or to somebody.who maybe is considering a longer stay and wants to get an overview of the region.
Fun trip outside of Guadalajara...beautiful resort town and Ajijic was quaint and pretty. Nice lunch out on the lake...and an option to take a boat out onto the lake.
My guide Berenice was amazing! She’s the kind of person who has a natural passion about history and storytelling and was able to talk about not only Chapala and Ajijic, but pre-contact cosmology, linguistics, architecture, food production, the Porfiriato and more. Lago de Chapala is extremely serene (I visited on a weekday), with picturesque fishing boats, beautiful boardwalks with palm trees, and lots of pelicans. Best to wear really comfortable shoes because of the cobblestone streets, especially in Ajijic. Definitely take this tour!
I enjoyed walking around Ajijic. The guide was helpful. But I enjoy the wandering around by myself. I would recommend the tour.
I attended this tour in July 2020, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it! My guide, Bernice, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and a good photographer :-) The two towns are both charming and beautiful. The driver was wonderful as well. He kept the van clean and was very consistent about providing hand sanitizer as I entered the van.
Great tour, and beautiful scenery. My guide, Alejandro was great. The pacing of the tour was just right. The restaurant by the lake was lackluster though--you're really just paying for the view, and the food was not great. Other than that, highly recommended tour.
Berenice was a wonderful guide and the bus was comfortable. The Malecon at Chapala was fun and I enjoyed lunch at The Peacock restaurant in Ajijic. Two peacocks strut around a peaceful, shaded garden with good food and drinks.
The trip was mediocre at best; having just drive us to the destination without much exposure of the history or culture of the place, the guide (Ramon) just walked us around and rushed us all to get to the restaurant about an hour away from Chapala. He gave us 40 minutes to get pictures around Chapala. He seemed motivated to get us all to the restaurant. When we arrived Ajijic, he hadn't set any expectations of timing where we could roam and he just went ahead and guided us past a local event. When asked about it, he ignored us.
This tour was very overpriced via this website. We spoke to several other couples while on tour that only paid a fraction of what we paid.
Amazing tour. Informative. Very genuine and really truly cares about the guests experience. 100% recommend
The ride was bumpy but the guide, service and locations were charming. I enjoyed the authentic food and mingling with the locals at the market best. Highly recommend it!
The tour was great - for what we wanted to see. Very accommodating guide. But actually I just wanted to see what Chapala and Ajijac were all about. Well, it bores me. Chapala on a Sunday was local scene mixed. Strolling on the malecon - about an hour out of GDL. Ajijac about 10 min down the road - and very small streets and cars parked everywhere- along the roads. The streets are cramped, and shops selling tourists things. Restaurants the same the plaza with tourists stands all around. And very busy. I’m not interested at all. I will Say our guide pointed out the population is 10,000 Americans, 5000 Canadians and 2000 Mexicans. Well I saw a lot of Mexican people - it was Sunday - and many gringos were in the 70’s age group. I’m 64, artist/ photographer so I’m not a young guy my wife is 56, but we are not retires. I would not retire there anyway. We also went to Tlaquepaque- what a tourist trap that was. A lot more fun than Chapala. For sure. But it would get old quick. But worth a look no doubt. Again it was Sunday. We stayed in the Americano section of Guadalajara- it’s probably not what people traveling Look for- but that was real life. And most enjoyable. Downtown one mile away was again crammed with people - very hectic- I’d avoid - now we are in Puerto Vallarta- I like it here. I’m not a high end resort person, but we are in one. It’s nice. So, I guess this trip, one of my many trips to Mexico was more fact finding - being from San Diego 30 years ago and now in New York. I do love Mexico! The people the food and the way of chill. But I don’t live here as an expat. At least not yet :). From what I see- the overblown security issue is nil.
We really enjoyed our experience and thought the services from the tour guides were professional and courteous. It was a nice half day experience so we weren't too exhausted afterwards. Lake Chapala is really a pretty area and the guide showed us a couple other places along the way mentioning history or famous people. It was a pleasurable day and only 3 of us on the tour.
