The reef was amazing. The catamaran was overcrowded and really rough. All beverages cost money and water is needed.

Itinerary
Visit the famous wreck of the ex-USS Kittiwake, a 251-foot submarine rescue vessel sunk off Cayman's shores in January 2011. Resting in just 60-foot-deep water and reaching to within 15-feet of the surface, this exciting wreck will give you plenty to explore as you swim through this window into the past.
The second stop will be to a shallow coral reef where one can admire an array of marine life in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea.
Snorkel equipment is provided. Dry snacks are included and a fully-licensed cash bar is available on board (alcoholic drinks available after in-water activity). Guests may board the catamaran at The Westin or Grand Cayman Beach Suites along Seven Mile Beach.

Excellent diving and service! What an amazing historical dive.
My husband and I returned to Red Sail Sports for the fourth time, and once again had an AMAZING experience. The entire crew is super friendly, fun, and incredibly helpful. They really make you feel taken care of from start to finish. A special shoutout to Pablo, who was both our guide and boat captain. He was fantastic, professional, calm, and clearly very experienced. He made everyone feel comfortable and ensured the whole trip ran smoothly, while still keeping things relaxed and super fun. My highlight was definitely the Kittiwake. At one point, we swam through a narrow passage and suddenly… boom… the entire ship opened up right in front of us. It was such a wow moment, going from a tight space to this massive wreck all at once. It felt like the ship was looming over us because of the way it sits tilted. Super cool! The wreck, with all the marine life, looked epic on camera. Highly recommend Red Sail Sports for anyone diving in Grand Cayman. We will definitely be back again!
We stayed at the colonial club and red sail had daily shuttle service to and from our condo. Super convenient and professional ! They also switched our bc/regs to the new tanks in between dives. Red sail also offers tons of courses from open water to rescue! Highly recommend! Highly recommend orange canyon is grand cayman
Really enjoyed our snorkeling trip to the Kittiwake and the reef. Also did their sunset sail that included a stop at Stingray City. Both trips were definitely worth experiencing. Red Sail's boats are clean, and crew members are very friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable.
Best snorkel trip I've done - both in the Caymans and full stop. The shipwreck was amazing and they give you a good amount of time to explore it. There were so many fish!!!
The staff were awesome, very professional and helpful. We were well taken care of and felt very safe the whole time. The equipment was good and the boat was clean. We were a little disappointed in the variety of animals we saw but that can’t be predicted.
Awesome crew! Awesome adventure! clean friendly and full of fun. I will for sure make others aware of this tour and the crew!!!
We were 5 in a group of 10 snorkeling the kittiwake & boggy sands. We're rating this average not because of the crew or because the boat had steering problems, but because the snorkeling is honestly, below average in comparison to the rest of what we did in Cayman- could be due to conditions. But, honestly, the kittiwake had a really strong current & you were dropped off & had to swim back---not to mention there's not a lot to see other than a murky boat outline & some fish, though not a lot of fish & certainly no more than you see on the reef. Boggy sands was ok, again aquarium & the barrier reef in the bay were better, much more living "plant" like coral & color, similar number of fish maybe....of course we had calm days with excellent visibility at aquarium & barrier reef
Overall a good experience. The crew on the boat was friendly and helpful. The detractor is you really can’t see much of the Kittiwake when snorkeling. It was cloudy and too deep. When we moved to the reef fish were plentiful and only 8 feet deep, which was great. We picked this trip for the overall experience- being on a boat and multiple snorkeling spots and definitely accomplished this goal. Expectations from other reviews about the wreck itself were accurate as noted. We still would recommend.
The USS Kittiwake and reef snorkeling is really cool. Lots of amazing fish. Really great reef snorkeling! The catamaran is clean. Seats are NOT as plentiful as the number of people. Staff is rude. Summer ignored me for a full 5 minutes whilst handing other people who came up after me the waiver to sign. Later after snorkeling, a guy came around asking if we wanted drinks. Ordered a ginger ale was told $3.00 gave him a $10 and never got my change.
Spectacular crew and vessel. The drinks offered at the cash bar were very good. The fish along the reefs were stunning but I do wish they provided a defogging solution for our masks. Overall still an amazing experience.
The staff was so helpful and friendly and the adventure was unbeatable! We saw so many fish and even a stingray! The kids enjoyed sliding off the slide at the back of the boat when they were finished snorkeling.
Boat is great, the crew could be more engaged with guests. The shipwreck was fun to see, the reef was nice.
The crew on board were friendly and helpful and the boat was very nice and clean. The crew was great at making sure that we were safe even though the water was a little choppy. I would go again in a minute.
Had an amazing experience with Ezaak. He was extremely friendly and knowledge, made us feel safe and comfortable. This was by far the best part of our trip, highly recommend to anyone visiting!
An amazing excursion. The history and artifacts were incredible. The snorkeling was invigorating. The fish were colorful. The ocean floor was beyond belief. We even saw scuba divers in and around the ship. The crew was friendly and helpful. It was just long enough
This is an outstanding company. We booked their Kittiwake and reef snorkel for when we arrived in Grand Cayman by cruise ship. Due to a medical emergency on the ship our ship was diverted to Kingston Jamaica to allow for a medical disembarkment. This caused us to arrive in Grand Cayman 2 hours late and beyond the excursion time frame. I sent an e-mail and explained the situation hoping for a refund even though we were outside the 24 hour cancellation policy. The response I received was prompt and they issued me a refund. I would highly recommend this company if cruising to Grand Cayman. Not all companies would have been this understanding. We are disappointed we did not get to experience this excursion, but we will use Redsail again. Excellent customer service.
A lot of fun snorkeling the sunken ship and a local reef. Great staff, very helpful. It was nice that the boat picked up right on the beach at the hotel were we staying - Kimpton Seafire.
We had a great experience with Red Sail for our two tank dive to the Kittiwake and Lone Star Reef. Instructions were clear, dive briefing was good, staff was friendly. They were customer focused, helping you don and doff your gear if needed, making sure nobody fell getting on or off the boat wearing tanks. The boat was perfect for diving, very good ladders and seats. During the surface interval, staff passed around orange slices, which was a nice treat after breathing tank air for 45 minutes. I liked how for the last ten minutes of each dive, you could explore a limited area with your buddy. The pace of the guided dives were good. I highly recommend the wreck. I've swum through sunken ships before, but this was the biggest and most intact for me. I loved it! Would definitely use Red Sail again. We also had a 5-star experience on two dives with Seahorse Dive School (Fluvio and his wife) and a terrible, zero-star experience doing five dives with DiveTech for our advanced certification. If I were to return to Cayman for SCUBA, I would contact Fluvio first, and whatever he couldn't do, I would go to Red Sail.
If you use Red Sail Sports and go on the trip then you’ll probably have a good time. If your sail gets cancelled because of high wind (Feb 29,2020) and you booked it from their sales desk at The Kimpton Seafire then it might not be. Our Kittiwake & Reef Sail that was $172 was cancelled due to high wind. It is subject to a full refund. I was credited $77 back on my CC. I called them and they told me I should have gotten the other $95 credit from Seafire. I checked my statement on checkout from Seafire and there isn’t a credit. I called Seafire and they said they would check into it. Nothing. I called Red Sail back and they checked with Seafire again and told me I got a credit. I have sent about 8 emails and talked with Kimpton Seafire once and Red Sail Sports 4 or 5 times and can’t get a simple credit to my credit card that is correct. It shouldn’t be this hard.
This was our 2nd dive trip for my son and here while at Grand Cayman. The kittiwake was a well planned dive and the guides were great. My only complaint was the snorkel trip my wife and Daughter did at the same time. It’s much too deep for god snorkeling but they still had a good time.
Enjoyed the snorkelling and friendliness and knowledge of the crew. This will easily have our families 15th activity of some description or other this year so we are somewhat taken aback by the size of the prices rises that are due imminently. At an average of 20 per cent- more in high season- this seems very excessive. This is really going to impact on who we might take our future trips with as we have been so happy to date with all our experiences.
Fun cruise. Kittiwake was neat but the reef snorkeling was very good. In the reef you could actually dive down 20' and look into caves of the reef. We had 39 guests and only two employees, Captain and a first mate. Probably needed one more employee for safety reasons but overall a great time.
We had learned about the Kittiwake's history a year ago on TV so we were excited to see it for ourselves. We sailed out from the Westin on a nice catamaran ride to snorkel along a reef (not sure which one). Not a great amount of fish & water was a little on the rough side but it was nice. Then we went over to snorkel the Kittiwake. The water had calmed down a bit and was so clear it seemed like you could just reach out & touch it. The crew was nice & had a cash bar so you could enjoy a cocktail on the way home.
We were very lucky and only had 4 other snorkelers joining us on this very spacious catamaran. The crew were very knowledgable and gave us a safety talk at the beginning of the tour. Once we arrived at the wreck were advised of its history and told the best places to swim to for pictures. Whilst it was a bit deep for really clear pictures it was still a very interesting sight. We then went on to a small coral reef closer in shore, again we were told where to swim to and had ample time to explore and see the many colours of the coral and varieties of fish. Once back on board we were able to have a drink and relax in the sun while they sailed the catamaran peacefully back to the Westin. You do need to be a fairly confident swimmer, but life jackets are available if needed. I would advise using flippers for the wreck as we encountered a bit of a current which may be hard to swim against for a weak swimmer. Definitely a recommended trip.
The catamaran launched from the Westin beach which was very convenient for us. Expensive little tour which did not include any lunch or even an open bar. I guess the laws are different here than other parts of the Caribbean. We've done catamaran trips in Barbados and St. Martin and the Grand Cayman trip pales in comparison. The Kittiwake was interesting, but it was so deep snorkeling was somewhat useless. The reef nearby was decent, but not very exciting. It would be good if one has never seen the reefs before. However, I have to admit, the crew on board the boat was awesome. Very friendly and personable. But cash bar...seriously? For that price maybe giving 2 drinks per person would have been somewhat reasonable.
We weren't expecting much on this one because we didn't have great weather. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and checked in quickly. I was happy with how nice the boat was; it was clean and well cared for - which you don't always get. I appreciated the communication from the captain (who was a woman - which was really cool to me) and her crew. The weather ended up not really being a factor because the visibility was good anyway. We had a really great time and I don't have anything negative to say at all about the experience. I would highly recommend it if you're into this kind of thing.
My husband and I did this snorkeling tour from the Westin 7-mile Beach. It was a 2.5 hour trip from beach and back. We left the Westin, picked up a few passengers at a nearby hotel, and then went to the Kittwake. The Kittiwake was interesting, although probably much more interesting to an actual diver vs. those of us snorkeling. You could see a bit of the 250' long ship from the surface, but it is down at around 40 - 50' so you are seeing it from a bit far away. I found it to be very cool to see the ship buried in the sand, watch fish swim in and out of portholes, and generally ponder the process to sink the ship. However, it would be more interesting if I were scuba certified to be able to see it up close! The reef was wonderful. This was one of those experiences where the more time you spent, the more you noticed. There was a lot of different marine life, and while I was hoping to see a sea turtle or other more "exotic" life, I just saw fish. But a lot of them! The crew was engaging, helpful, and attentive. They have water coolers on the boat so if you bring your own bottle you can refill it, but they also have plastic cups. After the snorkeling is over, they have a cash bar on the boat, and also offer sodas and Gatorade for a small price (bring cash). They also put the sail up, which is fun if you haven't been on a sailboat before. Overall would highly recommend. Glad we spent our afternoon on this trip!!
I'm torn on this rating because the crew was excellent, and they certainly took care of us. However, it really doesn't make sense to snorkel the Kittiwake, because it's way too deep to make for a good snorkel. The reef was better because it was easier to see, but it was hard to see anything with so many amateur snorkelers kicking around. I had a couple of amateurs run right into me, one of them knocking my mask off. I finally got far enough away from most of them to have really good viewing, but it was a struggle. So again: not the fault of the crew, but I didn't enjoy the snorkeling on this excursion.
This was an exceptional excursion. Dan, Micael and Reuben were extremely professional and provided us with needed safety information as well as helpful tips for snorkeling. On our sail back, my husband's cap flew off and they heard him say how much it meant to him - next thing we knew, they turned around and fished the hat out of the sea! The group was smaller than some excursions and we liked that as well.
My husband and I booked this tour last minute as we’ve been unable to do it on previous trips due to weather. $70 per person was a little steep. The boat was large and clean. Our group had about 16 people. The staff were friendly, nice and went over safety procedures at each stop. Snorkel gear is provided if you don’t have your own. It’s a 2 stop snorkel with about 30 min at each stop then you sail back to 7 mile beach at the Westin Hotel. Stocked bar for drinks after the snorkeling. Don’t be afraid to snorkel the kittiwake in fear you won’t see much... you can see the entire ship and it’s well worth the visit. Plenty of fish at the kittiwake as well. The 2nd stop was at soggy bottom bay which was like snorkeling in an aquarium there are so many fish of varying sizes and plenty of small reefs.
My family loves Red Sail because the staff is always friendly and they put safety first on every excursion. We walked along the beach from the Ritz Carlton to board the catamaran outside the Westin! They have an open bar on board stocked with rum punches and soft drinks! We saw countless fish at the reef and the kittiwake is a must see in the Caymans! There is no need to bring your own snorkel gear because they have it on board with de-fogger for your goggles! If you are looking for a family-friendly and fun tour - the Red Sail excursions are for you!
We booked an an excursion through Disney Cruise line, snorkeling at Grand Cayman was the priority here! The vans were comfortable and the staff was energetic. Not much to see at the Kittiwake but plenty to see at the reef! The staff sang happy birthday to my guy, which he didn’t expect :) the only thing I would recommend is to fill the waivers out in advance
Dove the Kittiwake, and western wall (1 deep, 2 shallow). I have used RedSail on all the dives. Navigated right thru the middle mid-day. lots of clarity, and awesome now that the ship is listing on the port side. A must dive spot in the area.

Good tour, only 10 of us on the boat. Saw a lot of variety of fish.

Very nice tour. Was on a cruise stop and booked through Viator instead of cruise line and saved quite a bit. Everyone involved from check in to boat crew was professional, attentive and fun! Two stops, one over a reef and the other over Kittiwake were fun and water clear and calm enough for a 10 year old and 8 year old to snorkel without problems. Would highly recommend this tour.
