Excellent tour, very informative. Our tour guide Manuel was incredible, he was very knowledgeable, personable and displayed a real passion for the tour. It felt like a good friend showing you something he loves.

I am writing to report the incompetence of the tour guide assigned to our tour to Alpujarra and to request a refund. The tour was the worst tour in which I have ever participated. The tour was described as being an English language tour. Thatโs what I paid for. When we arrived, we were told the tour would be conducted in both English and Spanish because there were 2 Spanish speaking guests and 6 English. That sounded fine. I have participated in bilingual tours on this trip that went well. However once the tour began, it became clear that the tour guide did not speak English well, certainly not to the level required for a tour guide. He had only a basic command of the English language. As we traveled in the van throughout the entire trip, a time when most tour guides explain an overview of the trip and discuss the passing scenery, he spoke Spanish to the two Spanish speaking guests who were in the front seat but gave no commentary whatsoever to the six English speaking ones. He was clearly providing tour information to the Spanish guests because he frequently pointed to something out the window. My husband asked a question and was given a curt one sentence answer. Other than that, we did not hear any English from him in the car. Once we stopped, he gave short explanations in non-fluent English and spoke very softly to the group despite being asked to speak more loudly. He never waited for all guests to arrive before beginning his minimal commentary so most of us never heard anything he was saying. In total, including all stops, he spoke for less than 20 minutes, and three of them were restaurant suggestions. The English speaking guests constantly asked each other what he had said. The incompetence stretched beyond language. At our first stop, he told the guests in the back seat we had to climb over the seat in front of us through a tiny 6 inch gap. Luckily, another guest knew how to fold the seat. He refused to try to fix the problem. And we only visited two towns, not three. I canโt tell you what they were because he never described the towns, just pointed and gave short explanations. I have taken many tours, several on this trip by native Spanish speakers who gave clear informative tours, and this was clearly the worst one I have ever participated in. I wasted a full day of my vacation in Spain with frustration Please refund my money as the tour was absolutely useless.
It was good, we liked it a lot, cute towns, super nice views. I think it was definetally worth it! The only thing is we were on a bilingual tour Spanish and English. And the guide spoke 75 percent Spanish and 25 percent English.
Our trip to the Alpujarra villages was a day well spent. Our driver/guide Peppe was full of information and a very enthusiastic photographer. He took many great shots of us as he stopped along the way. The scenery was beautiful on the way to the villages and the villages themselves were a step back into time. Peppe was a great driver and wonderful guide. We would recommend this trip to a friend.
The day was well spent. Gonzalo, our guide, provided valuable information as well as pointed out great picture-taking opportunities. He was very informative.
Gonzales was our guide and he made sure that we had a memorable trip. He explained the layout of the whole trip and explained the history of different places that we visited. It was a wonderful experience.
โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ Highly Recommend This Tour! We had a wonderful experience on the Premium Scenic Daytrip to the Alpujarra Villages from Granada. Our guide and driver, Gonzalo, was fantasticโinformative, engaging, and genuinely funny. He did an amazing job connecting with the kids, keeping them entertained while making the tour enjoyable for everyone in our group. Gonzaloโs knowledge of the history of Granada and the surrounding Alpujarra villages brought each stop to life. He shared fascinating stories and local insights that made the experience much more meaningful than simply sightseeing. The lunch was absolutely delicious and was a great opportunity to enjoy the local cuisine. Everything about the day was well organized, relaxing, and memorable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn more about Granada and the beautiful surrounding communities. Thank you, Gonzalo, for making it such a fun and unforgettable day!
When the four of us booked this tour we weren't sure what to expect. We just thought it might be nice to get out of the city (Granada) for the day. As it turned out, it was the highlight of our trip. The drive into the mountains was spectacular, and we discovered a part of Spain unlike any other we had been to in six visits. Gonzalo introduced us to village life in the beautiful atmosphere of the Alpujarra. We learned about its history and the trades of the region. And we met some charming residents, one who gave us a branch of fresh cherries from his tree, and a retired teacher with an enormous library and an artistic vibe the four of us deeply related to. We even had an excellent vegetarian lunch at a lovely local restaurant. Thanks to Gonzalo for a perfect tour, one of the best my husband and I have experienced on Trip Advisor.
This was a wonderful trip. Our driver and guide (Samir?) was attentive and provided a wealth of information. He stayed with us most of the time (except for free time) and answered all of our questions. He provided historical overview and current information about the villiages. The whole trip was an excellent experience. Highly recommend.
Easy going day trip. Beautiful sights. Cute villages. Our guide worked hard providing context and explanations. Felt very safe. A bit of a tighter space since we are big men.
This day trip to Alpujarra was incredibly well run. Gonzalo is an incredible tour guide and did a great job of bringing around a group of both English and Spanish speakers! We got lucky and had beautiful weather too and the views were amazing! The pace didnโt feel overly rushedโฆ overall, I highly recommend this tour. Thank you again Gonzalo!
We booked our experience through Discovering Spain. Our guide was Gonzales and he was phenomenal! He was fun, informative, and immersed us in the culture. Couldnโt think of a better person to take us on this journey. The roads are very winding and we never felt threatened. We felt very safe in his capable hands. Part of our group spoke English and part spoke Spanish and he balanced it very well. As we walked through the towns, Gonzales seemed to know everyone. He was like the mayor of each and every town! Weโd highly recommend Gonzales!!
What an amazing experience! Golanzo our guide was friendly, full of information and filled the day with amazing views of mountains, valleys, white-washed picturesque villages and facts about history and culture that put everything into context. The day ended with a beautiful meal at restaurant belezmin in Pampaneria. After our drive back to the city Golanzo kindly dropped us off right at our hotel - even spotting I had left my phone in the minivan and making sure to leave it at reception for me. What a life-saver!
Amazing trip - I would definitely recommend. Scenery was fantastic. Our guide and driver Gonzalo looked after us very well.
Fantastic trip, amazing scenery. Gonzalo the driver and guide was knowledgeable and looked after us well. I would definitely recommend this trip.
Gonzalo was our guide and driver, he went out of his way to make sure we experienced the best of the region. We stopped in to see a friend of his who lives in a 400 year old house and learned what it was like for him to be in his late 70's, a retired intellectual who is spending his retirement in a village of 30 people. The entire area we visited was gorgeous, interesting and very rewarding to see. I would recommend this tour and if you have Gonzolo as your guide your time spend here will be truly amazing.
Our guide was extremely kind and professional and went out of his way to make sure we all had a great day, including our 7 year old. The day itself was fantastic. It was lovely to get out of Granada and see the Sierra Nevada and villages of the Alpujarra, which are really wonderful. This tour was excellent value for money and highly recommended.
Carlos was a lovely guide that accommodated me very well because I was the only person on tour that spoke English to translate separately just for me. It was also a very wet day but it made the mountains look mystical like something out of a movie. Carlos was very informative of the local areas and how they came to be and focused on the architecture of the houses in the small towns focusing on ancient traditions. Overall it is very worthwhile to check out.
It was amazing, I really liked the experience. Gonzalo, our guide, was very kind and friendly. I highly recommend it, the place is out of this world, just beautiful!
Had a great day with Gonzalo. He was very knowledgeable and provided us with great information about each of the villages that we visited, the history of the people of the area and the landscapes. He was very considerate of the group members providing help where needed to deal with the steep streets and steps.
The tour was amazing and me and my family absolutely loved it!! The views were beautiful and breathtaking, the car was spacious and clean and the places we stopped at were just beautiful. Our guide Gonzalo was so lovely, respectful and nice and made sure we were comfortable, explained all the history well and was just really friendly. Well worth the money and the long day it was the highlight of our granada trip.
This was the highlight of our Andalusian trip and Manolo was excellent guide with so much knowledge and passion for the region. We experienced and saw many things throughout the day with surprises all over the trip. The Jamon curing factory, chocolate factory, waterfall and villages were my favourite. My family loved the lunch place that was picked with traditional dishes! A MUST DO!
By far the best day and tour of our 1.5 weeks in Spain!!! Carlos was so fantastic- we visited several absolutely beautiful villages in the highest mountains, he took us through little quaint neighborhoods we never would have found on our own, made several special stops on the road for beautiful vistas, canyons and bridges, and gave us 1.5 hours of free time to eat and shop. Carlos made the trip! He is so knowledgeable, fun, personable and funny. The absolute highlight of our trip to Spain!!!
It was a great way to see what was outside of the City. We had a van with 5 people total making it an intimate to get to know new people - New Zealander and Scottish. Our driver was very informative and accommodating as we had some walking concerns. He took us the ways it would be less taxing. He stopped along the way to tell us about the history of the area, gave us some time to explore and see the local sites. We ended up at an amazing area to have lunch. He actually pointed the local restaurants vs. the "tourist" restaurants and it was really great. One of the party had a steak which was thick and perfectly done. He finished it plus all the potatoes and said it was the best steak he had ever had. (He was also 30 years old!) We enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend doing the smaller tour. It was our last full day in Granada making it ever more memorable.
Very interesting tour. The guide very knowledgeable about the area. Beautiful scenery and charming villages. The chance to stop off at some of the villages for short breaks and a longer lunch stop was very welcome.
We had such a wonderful time traveling to and learning about the villages that make up the Alpujarras. Manuel, our driver and guide was courteous and knowledgeable! He was a great driver (very safe)! It was more of a personalized tour because it was just my friend and I which was so lovely!!! Great, relaxing experience with wonderful views!
My husband and I had a fantastic trip to the villages in the Alpujarra region of the Sierra Nevada. The mountains, landscape and signs of spring everywhere were breathtaking. Our guide, Gonzalo was knowledgeable, professional, kind and enthusiastic. Gonzalo is proficient in English and made sure that both Spanish and English speakers alike were able to participate and ask questions. We liked the small group experience as we were able to connect easily and make new friends on the tour. We learned so much about the history of the region and the interesting architecture of the lovely white villages. Gonzalo was an excellent driver, navigating the winding roads with ease. He recommended a marvelous restaurant where we had one of the best meals weโve ever had in Spain. Highly recommend!
A great way to see a beautiful area outside of Granada. Bring layers, the villages can chilly and windy.
My sister and I decided to do something different for our last day in Granada. We are so glad we signed up for this tour of Las Alpujarras! We were fortunate to have our tour guide, Gonzalo, all to ourselves! Gonzalo showed us incredible spots with stunning views, stopping at beautiful mountain villages, and sharing with us details on the history and culture of the region. He also gave us a great recommendation for a most delicious and bountiful lunch at a very friendly, family-run restaurant. He also introduced us to a pair of lovely ladies who are keeping alive the art of weaving using traditional looms. The scarves we purchased will forever remind us of the incredible time we spent with Gonzalo in Las Alpujarras. We also appreciated what a good careful and good driver he is! He navigated the winding roads up the mountains very well! I HIGHLY recommend this day tour to anyone wanting an off-the-beaten path experience while visiting Granada. Thank you, Gonzalo!
We had a perfect day on this trip into the Sierra Nevada. We saw, and walked through, several gorgeous small towns with fantastic views of both the snow above and canyons below. Manuel took to us to some fascinating spots. He was an excellent driver, and an overall great guide who also took us to a special local family restaurant for one of most delicious meals, ever. Highly recommended.
This was an amazing tour. I love mountains and the Sierra Nevadas did not disappoint. Our tour guide was knowledgable and fun. We truly had a great time and would recommend this tour!
This was a wonderful trip - helped by the fact that we were the only two travellers. Gonzalo was so knowledgeable about the area and we visited sites that we would never have found by ourselves. He gave us time to explore the villages and recommended a super restaurant for lunch. Overall a great day!
We had such a great day! Our guide, Gonzalo, was very knowledgeable and spoke good English. We were only 3 on the tour (plus our guide) and we got on really well as a group. Gonzalo was so nice and made it a really fun day. We absolutely loved the beautiful villages - and an added bonus was that Gonzalo knew people and introduced us. He was also a very careful driver on the mountain roads. The roads were very good, but quite a lot of bends. Gonzalo was very relaxed and flexible so it felt more like a day out with a friend than a strictly timetabled tour. At the same time, he was totally professional. We enjoyed it so much that we made a decision to join Gonzalo again, the following day, for the tour to Cordoba
Awesome tour and great value for money. Our driver/guide was great, informative and entertaining. Despite it being a small group tour, it felt like a personalized experience, and we had plenty of free time in each location. The day was longer than expected (9.5 hours) but we didn't mind in the slightest as it was so much fun. Highly recommend this tour.
Best experience and well worth the price! We would have never been able to experience the Alpujarros like we did without going on this excursion . Our guide Gonzalo was the absolute best! He translated to English and truly gave us the best experience.
Excellent guide and service. Felt we saw and heard every piece of the alpujarras. Would not hesitate to take this day trip.
Highly recommended. Our driver and guide Gonzalo was excellent and took us to see some unique gems. We specially loved the visit with one of the townโs resident who invited us to see his ancient home. The landscape and the towns were spectacular.
Memorable: I had a fabulous time with my husband. We made the best of crazy circumstances. Not so memorable: The driver loaded up 7 people. During the entire trip, I was in the back seat, middle. My view was a headrest. I asked to be moved for the trip backโthe driver never asked the bully front-seat traveler to share his seat. Driver talked very little and 50% in SPANISH--paid for ENGLISH tour. Had 3 bilingual travelers in our group-guide catered to these travelers-we subsidized their day. Another one of our young fellow travelers was also frustrated with our concerns, and during lunch, he expressed that he could not hear anything from the middle seat. He said, "Why does he not have a speaker with headset?' What to do? Ask for refund? Or...warn others this may occur on your tour. We had a good time because --we can turn lemons into lemonade. It was a VERY expensive taxi ride up the mountain.
Not a comfortable minivan as promised to transport us. Though the taxi was comfortable for us English. The guide was meant to be multilingual but even the Mexicans with us found the Spanish difficult to understand English was poor too. Apart from that the tour was fantastic, we enjoyed all the sites that we visited. The roads were so well maintained even on the mountains that the ride was very comfortable. The white villages were fantastic and the ham factory, the olives and almond trees were great, the carpet weaving was great to see.
This was an amazing tour full of unexpected and interesting sites. Our guide, Gonzalo was wonderful, a mine of information on the history and environment, and drove carefully on the winding mountain roads. Our visit to the village of Capileira was as highlight, followed by a delicious lunch at a recommended tavern. I highly recommend this tour as a way to learn more about southern Spain.
Unique insight into the pueblos blancos of the Alpujarra. Our guide Carlos was a font of knowledge on the history, geology and culture of the region and maintained good humour throughout. Carlos is also an excellent and patient driver on the steep, winding roads. There was a good mix of coordinated group activity and time for independent exploring of the pueblos
This was a wonderful day trip to a very beautiful part of southern Spain. Our driver and tour guide Gonzalo had a very deep knowledge of the ancient and modern history of the Alpujarras and the communities that live there. The villages and the beautiful white stone dwellings, cobbled pavements along with breath taking views of the mountains was something to behold and treasure. The tour guide Gonzalo was charming, friendly, totally professional and had a great sense of humour. I couldn't recommend this trip strongly enough.
We had the most wonderful guide who went out of his way to make the day magical. So glad we were able to do this trip and see a different side of life in Alpujarras.
My favorite experience in Spain. The pace, the people on the trip (from different regions of Spain), and our guide Gonzalo made this perfect. Highly recommend!
Thank you to Gonzalo for a wonderful day! He was kind, funny and informed. His love for the region brought it to life for us. He introduced us to a local resident of Capilerilla, and we had a lovely time chatting and practicing Spanish with him. Great food and great company, stunning sites overlooking the mountains and quaint small villages. We learned so much. Highly recommend! Be prepared for motion sickness if thatโs an issue for you.
Absolutely fantastic trip! Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. He made sure that everyone was comfortable with some of the trickier walks. The guide even spoke Spanish to me after I told him I was learning! Lots of lovely sites to see, fabulous lunch (recommended by the guide) in one of the towns. Definitely recommend if you have a free day when visiting Granada.
Fabulous trip away from the city into the mountains. Gonzales was an excellent guide who looked after us well. Lovely to see the villages and landscape.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and very quick to translate all information into either Spanish or English. He was a very safe driver on the twisting roads, and we found the tour excellent value for money.
Carlos led us on a walk through Capileira which will be one of my best memories of our visit to Spain. The history, architecture, and views are extraordinary. The gorges take your breath away!
What an amazing experience! Carlos, our driver and guide, was so nice and informative. The villages we visited were out of a storybook! Very enjoyable day!
