The Alpujarra, as it is popularly known, in the singular, is famous throughout Spain because of its unique mini-ecology. Its terraced farmlands are constantly watered by the melting snow from Sierra Nevada peaks.
The gateway to the Alpujarra
A quiet little village located south of Granada in the Alpujarra region, visit a chocolate factory and have free time to explore local shops.
The Fuente Agria Waterfall resides near the town of Pórtugos. It is a waterfall with very mineral rich.
The altitude of this village is 1476 metres (4,843 ft) above sea level. The fresh mountain air makes it perfect for preserving hams. Taste gourmet Tapas, typical food from Trevelez.
Located in the Poqueira gorge. it is on the list of 'Prettiest Villages in Spain'. Enjoy a delicious local dish "Plato Alpujarreño" if it is option selected.

Excellent tour with a knowledge and friendly guide (Michael).
Don’t look any further! This tour was so amazing. Alfredo picked us up at hotels and drove us all over the alpujarras for the whole day. He is a great guide and super guy, such that the time just flies by, even in the van. The villages are so beautiful, the history is engaging and timely, and the food was delicious. I bought several things from Dani at the embutidos store, and I can’t wait to dive in. Thanks so much for a great day.
We had the best time exploring Las Alpujarras! The small group size (13 people) was perfect and made the tour feel very intimate. Alfredo was a fantastic guide—so knowledgeable. We loved learning about the local history, exploring the charming towns, and tasting the local products. Highly recommend this tour!
This is a full day tour However it was a wonderful day and a we went by a good vehicle it was very comfortable
Great day exploring the beautiful villages! Our guide Michael was very engaging, he gave us lots of info, and also drove very safely (I had been a little worried about the mountain roads as I have a fear of heights but it was not a problem at all)! We also had delicious (and plentiful) food! The tour is absolutely worth it!
Alexandra and Jose did a great job! The lunch was a traditional village lunch high on the processed meats and fried food. The villages were delightful and it was great to visit the ham shop and chocolate shops.
We had an absolutely wonderful day in this amazing region in the mountains with our terrific guide Alfredo who was friendly, knowledgeable and tried hard to ensure the tour was enjoyable to all. (He thoughtfully addressed my special dietary restrictions throughout the tour which was greatly appreciated.) The tour featured some special sites and experiences that gave us a view into the everyday life of living in small, off-the-grid towns with friendly people, beautiful artisan work, and delicious food. We highly recommend this experience which was interesting, relaxed and fun. Thank you again, Alfredo! - Katie and Camye
Exceptional tour and amazing guide. We were able to adjust our time to meet with local artisans and this will be an experience we treasure for years to come. Highly recommend!
Amazing views from the Sierras. Tour guide, Frederic was fun and knowledgable and very helpful. Bus driver was very skilled going up amd doen the switchbacks without creating any concerns! Beautiful villages and other sites and a very nice tour of an Iberian jambom dey cure facility and retail outlet were we vot a generous sample tray of different jambon and sausage and cheese.
A fantastic full day experience at the Alpujarras. Breath taking views throughout the whole day. Professional explanation for all the places we visited. Our professional driver Michael is expert on the history of the place, has a very good English for explanation and statisfied with his driving ability for the zig zag ongoing roads. We highly recomend it as it is value for money paid
Really good tour. Michael was great. The stops made were beautiful and not overwhelming. Thank you Michael.
This was great trip with an excellent guide and very safe driver. The villages and other locations visited were interesting and our guide explained their history and importance. He is very enthusiastic about the history of the region. While there is a lot of sitting on a bus the scenery is breathtaking in places.
Our guide, Michael, was fun and informative! We stopped at several places for pictures and entertaining history lessons! The villages were each beautiful we had a wonderful lunch filled with magnificent food and conversation! I highly recommend this adventure!
This was without a doubt one of the most enjoyable tours I have been on. It was informative and well paced. With a good description of the area and an opportunity to enjoy the villages. I would recommend enjoying the lunch with this tour as the food was excellent. Our guide, Alexandria ensured she spent time with all different groups allowing time for questions and clarification. Roberto was an awesome driver!
Great tour with really tasty food and amazing sights! Would recommend this as a way to see another part of the Andalusian region.
A fantastic day in a scenic part of Spain. Our guide, Michael, was excellent and very knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed all of the places visited as part of the tour and lunch was lovely.
An excellent day, would highly recommend! Small group made it easy to move around and didn’t have to wait for people. Alexandra (our guide) was exceptional. A good amount of time in each place and the amount of detail Alexandra gave was perfect and delivered in an interesting way. The surprise stops were wonderful and welcome.
The mountains to the south of Granada sit majestically to the south of the city and this tour allows the opportunity to see the traditional villages scattered through the Sierra Nevadas, taste specialties of the area and see their artisan crafts. So much is covered in a relaxing, air conditioned small coach which was a welcome relief to the usual walking demands of most tours. Jose Manuel was also a very informed guide. Highly recommend!!
A full day tour 8.30 am to 6.15pm. Full of interesting sites, tacticians photo opportunities. Jose Manuel was good fun and very informative.
Great day with many fun stops. Our guide Alexandra was excellent. Scenery was breathtaking. I would certainly recommend.
I arrived at the pickup location and waited for an hour, and I did not receive any communication about a difficult pickup location. BEWARE booking this tour as you may not even take it
Wow, what a great day we had on this tour with our guide, Michael, despite the gloomy, cold & rainy day. 1st stop at the lower village was great! Had coffee, tried the chocolate and bought a few souvenirs. 2nd stop was very interesting! We tried the water directly from the spout off the wall and went down 68 steps to a beautiful Waterfall. Last stop was at the highest point where we had a nice lunch. Took a little longer than expected but it was a Sat & they were busy. Didn't have much time to shop but, had a glass of wine at a bar by the bus stop. But truly what made this tour even better (besides the beautiful views) was Michael. Wow, what a true gentleman. So friendly. Full of knowledge. Very passionate about his work. Had a few secret stops that we loved. Definitely recommend. Great Dat if you want to experience more than the busy city center. And if you get Michael, I can assure you, you'll have an even better day!
This was an amazing day. We were the only english speakers on this tour. The guide spoke english and all commentary was in both languages. Did a great job during the tour to bring the group together. The other participants (6 or 7) were from Spain on holiday. We toured together, had lunch, and took pictures of and for each other. At the end everyone parted friends and enjoyed the interactions. We met at a small plaza early in the morning, the guide took us to the van and drove the entire route. Lots of views/ stops along the way. Layers of history as we walked the paths and heard the historical details of each location. The tour ran 10-11 hours as no one was in a hurry to return. Not for children. You will go to a higher altitude , cooler, and need to walk. Some members tired and the tour allowed for pauses for those who needed it. The tour group was primarily middle to older ages. Very welcoming. My wife and I were older than most of the others and we were able to keep up better than younger ones. The guide introduced us to locals and believe it or not, one elder, 88 yrs old had never left the village or ever heard of the Americas. Great picture taking and wandering opportunities. My limited knowledge of the language encouraged others to try their english. Great pictures and the guide pointed out picture spots. Layers of history everywhere. Lunch was excellent. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We will not forget this day, the people , and the stunning views we all shared. Would never of seen without this tour. We prefer smaller tours and this one is a good one. Thanks
Friendly and knowledgeable guide. It was a sunny winters day and we could see all the way to the sea. It was not rushed with plenty of time to explore and the guide was around to talk to. Bus was clean nice and warm although not an excess of legroom. Overall a great day
That was one of the highlights of our Andalusia trip. Our guid was knowledgeable. His English was excellent. The value for money and time spended was exceptionally good to compare with other tours we had in Andalusia.
Although our bus had a trouble in the beginning, they quickly arranged for another bus and we could start the tour an hour late. Everywhere they took me was amazingly beautiful, and the guide Zaruq was very knowledgeable and easy to understand. Ham tasting was wonderful, and the lunch was very nice, too. Thank you!
Loved it very much, never knew Spain had so much historical places worth visiting and learning about, wouldn't have known as much as I know now if it wasn't for the tour guide, keep up the good work.
Highly recommend this tour! It was a full day of many activities - you’ll wander small mountain towns, taste local goods, shop, see some nature, and have a traditional lunch. Ask for tour guide Michael - he’s the best!
I am so glad I booked this trip as it is a definite highlight of my holiday. Michael was an excellent tour guide, explaining the history, culture, geography, food etc of the Alpujarras. We were a small group of 4 people with 3 languages: English, Spanish and French, but Michael expertly switched between all 3 languages to ensure everyone understood everything and was included. We saw and experienced so much and Michael also had a few surprise stop offs during the day to break up the driving. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who needs a break from the tourist crowds, but still wants to experience authentic Spain.
Got to see some spectacular views that we couldn't get to without a car. Much cooler in the mountains too. Stopped at a few interesting places and villages and our guide Alessandra was friendly and knowledgeable. It does take an hour to get there and there are some very windy roads but all in all a well worth trip
We had fantastic guide- very knowledgeable and passionate about Spanish history and culture! The ham and cheese degustation and lunch very superb Thank you for memorable day in Las Appujuras
Had a great day with our guide Zaruk. During the bus ride to the different villages he would give explanations in both English and Spanish. Did a ham and cheese tasting in Trevelez and the owner of the shop was a fantastic guy. During lunch also got to know the others on the tour a bit. Would recommend.
This was a fabulous .We were a small group and Michael our tour guide made us feel very special. He was entertaining and very much knew his stuff, and I learnt a lot about the history of the region. The trip was comfortable, and the scenery and the towns spectacular .
The views were amazing and Michael, our guide was absolutely the best. What a wonderful day. He had saved a few surprises for us along the way that made the experience extra memorable.
Excellent day with Michael in the Alpujarras! fabulous landscapes, fascinating history and delicious Jason tasting. Great 3 course lunch (better than described!) with fellow travellers who were fun. and cgood company. Michael the tour guide was will informed and entertaining, and a safe and efficient driver. Highly recommended and great value tour.
We had a great day with our guide Michael who was friendly, informative and made the tour very enjoyable. Our Jamon tasting was lovely and we had the optional lunch which was excellent. Visiting the Alpujarras villages was interesting and we had great views of the area. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful experience! Didn't know what to expect when we booked it, as this visit to Andalucia was our first. We learned so much!, and appreciate the time Michael took to speak with us and educate us on the history and current lifestyle of the area. We were the only english speaking/non-Spanish speaking people in our group, and Michael made us feel very much a part of the group, offering us a little background to the information that he was sharing re:the areas we were traveling through - some background information that most Spanish educated peoples would have perhaps learned in school. We learned so much and enjoyed the day! Thank you Michael! ** if you get motion sickness - please please know that the road this journey takes is filled with switchbacks and ascentions&descentions. Michael is an excellent driver and was very kind to my situation. Take motion-sickness medicine with you if you have any previous experience with 'back-seat car sickness.' Better to have it and not use it, than to not have it and get to pharmacy at the upper hill towns!
Lovely experience full of sorpresas. Our guide was Michael from Granavision. We were a small tour of 6 . Michael took us to lots of interesting places, pointed out landmarks, shared lots of history and made the trip fun and friendly. He seemed to know most of the residents of Las Alpujarras towns and we left feeling like we had really experienced the places. Great lunch too!
Fantastic day trip with a brilliant tour guide Michael. From initial pick up until drop off 10 hours later, Michael was friendly, informative and ensured we were comfortable for the whole trip. The villages were stunning as was the drive, Michael also stopped off at some great view points so plenty of opportunities for some photos. We also had a great group of travellers, mixture of English, Spanish and French and Michael was able to switch between languages to ensure we knew all the information at each point! Highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Granada.
This excursion is well paced, informative, and delightfully relaxing. Michael is an excellent guide and driver, giving us detailed history of the towns we visited and showing us some unexpected and intriguing natural and man-made sites. The tasting visit to the jamón establishment was superb and, although there was no pressure to buy, the food on offer was irresistible. Dani, the proprietor was highly entertaining. The lunch stop high up in Capileira was hearty, satisfying and accompanied by spectacular views. This tour should be a part of any visit to Granada.
The mountains and villages are very picturesque. It is an area not overrun with tourists so it has a lot of charm. Our guide was thoughtful, friendly, familiar with the area and most accommodating. Lunch was magnificent.
We had a beautiful trip to Las Alpujarras thank to Michael's enthusiastic and professional guiding. We loved all surprise stops on the way and learned a lot about the area and the history of people living there. The tasting stop at Dany's Jamon store was brilliant and the lunch afterwards with generous homemade food in a restaurant in Capileira was great as well. Thank you Michael! We trully enjoyed our trip and had a great day with lovely people in our group.
Amazing day tour. We had a great snack of traditional jamón, cheese and wine. We saw some of the most picturesque villages in the Sierra Nevada mountains and we ended with a very tasty lunch in the highest village in Spain. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The driver was amazing on the narrow mountain roads. When we were walking around we had 2 times when we wend uphill but it was not too difficult. Would recommend this tour for older people, families with young kids or if you are out of shape.
Spectacular scenery and trip. It was everything expected and more. We were the only English couple on the trip and were made to feel welcome. Dante the guide was friendly and informative. His knowledge of the area was superb. The villages we visited were lovely and the visit to the ham curing shop with a tasting of meats and cheese was an added bonus. Lunch was excellent as was the local wine. Thank you Dante and also our driver.
Great way to spend a day outside of Granada visiting the charming region of Alpujarras. Our guide Michael was amazing! He made this tour so enjoyable. All the villages were very nice and the lunch delicious. Thanks Michael for such a great experience.
We highly recommend this Alpujarras tour. Michael is a superb guide, considerate, lively, entertaining and extremely informative. He made sure that we English-speakers were never left out of the conversation. He provided us with a wealth of history and legends concerning the entire region, as well as focusing on the lovely villages we visited. He provided fascinating background information throughout the tour, even at our delicious cured meats tasting and during the excellent lunch in Capileira, and delighted us with “surprises” along the way. We highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in the Alpujarras.
My wife and I went on this day long tour with a small group on 23 March 2023. Eleven people of which 7 were Spanish, two (my wife and I) spoke English), and the other two were trainee guides of the company. It was supposed to be a bi-lingual tour. However, the guide (if he can be called one, his name was Zarook) spoke almost entirely in Spanish and occasionally gave a summary in English for our benefit. Very disappointing. We booked the tour on the assumption that we would be treated on par with the Spanish speakers, and thus we lost out on almost all the explanations of the places. I expect the company to refund part of the tour charges for not giving us what was promised.
It is a great trip to escape the city, experience the calming influence of being in the mountains and witness how the community looks after its indigenous population. I highly recommend. Although the villages have adapted themselves to the 21st century, they are still able to preserve traditions and architectural designs that maximise the use of local resources and nature to achieve an eco-friendly and sustainable way of living. Our guide Michael from GranaVision was a delight to be with. Not only did we have a crash course on local history and geography, we also got treated with 'surprise' stops for photo opportunities. Being a photography enthusiast himself, he took beautiful photos of us which will definitely make the highlights of our Granada experience.
We did a tour with our tour guide, Michael, on 29 December. The pick-up was at our hotel at Occidental Hotel, Granada. Michael was such a great guide, and we really enjoyed our time with him. He was friendly, very courteous, caring, and went out of his way to make our day at Alpujjaras memorable. Because there was another couple who only spoke Spanish, and we only understood and spoke English, Michael became our language translator the whole time. He was very patient and we really enjoyed his tour. The sights on this tour was just amazing. You will also learn so much about the regions and see the sights of the unique villages in the mountains. You can even taste the ham cheese and wine in Danny's ham shop. We really enjoyed Danny's ham selections very much. Do this tour with Granavision with Michael as your guide - You will definitely enjoy this tour very much!
