Itinerary
It is a 6.5 kilometer route perfect for most people. It is a very popular route where a natural paradise has been found in this place due to its great beauty and ease. It is ideal to do as a family, which gives it a prominent place. It is a path where hanging bridges are crossed and, little by little, you discover what this special route hides, as well as its incredible views, waterfalls and tunnels. This path will take you through some of the most spectacular landscapes in Andalusia. Important information: On this path you need skill and agility, since there are narrow sections and places where you have to walk crouched. Not suitable for people with reduced mobility. We recommend bringing a backpack to carry your items and water, since it is essential to have your hands free during the walk.
We return to the same starting point.
This place is the meeting point. We recommend arriving ten minutes early to check in. We will be in front of the Cafeteria Casa Valentyna

We had an incredible experience on our English-speaking hike through the Sierra Nevada! The scenery was absolutely stunning, featuring incredible canyon bridges and fascinating caves that made the route truly unique. Our guide, Marcello, went above and beyond to make the day special. He kept the group informed and comfortable, provided delicious snacks and cold water, and took fantastic photos of us along the way so we could enjoy the experience. Traveling in a small group made the experience feel personal and well-paced. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area—Marcello is wonderful!
Beautiful hike, whe went early in the morning so it was not bussy. Verry peaceful. The guide Marcello made the trip even beter. Verry relaxed and helping!
This was a wonderful morning hike with a wonderful guide. 100% would recommend to those who would like to discover the area outside of Granada
There are steep hills going up but well Worth it. Marcello was fantastic. He pointed out local vegetation on the hike, took photos, and was very informative about the mountain. 100% recommend!
FABULOUS morning hike! Beautiful views, vigorous hike. Not for the faint of heart! This hike has some fairly challenging hill climbs and scrambles, plus narrow ledges to pass in crouched positions or on hands & knees, and fairly steep steps and hills. Don't carry a bag or a child on this hike as you will have great difficulty safely getting thru the narrow passages with anything on your back or front. Our guide was FANTASTIC!
Michael our guide for the day picked us up in front of the cathedral in Granads, walked us to the local busstop where we left to the Siera Nevada where we did do this the trip canyon, Bridges first and returned through the mountains back to the start. It was intensive mainly because of the heat, but the landscapes were impressive. Oir guide made a great lunch and provided everybody with the assistance needed Prepare with decent walking shows, het & Sun cream. Brilliant and physical outing away from the city.
My husband and I Loved this hike. So scenic and Julio was a great guide, he made it super fun and interesting. You do need a reasonable degree of fitness because of the climb at the beginning and some of the narrow ledges, but it isn’t fast paced at all. I would definitely recommend this if you want to have a change of scenery from the city.
Julio is a fabulous guide! We enjoyed the hike to the gorge so much that we immediately booked another walk with Jukio fir the next day, along the old tramway
We thoroughly enjoyed our hike. Julio was a friendly guide who gave us information about the area and pointed out local wildlife and plants. He provided us with water, if needed, a snack bar and a walking stick. He helped guide us through the more challenging parts of the hike, explaining exactly the route to take. The views through the canyon and then up and over the mountainside were beautiful!
We had an absolutely amazing experience on our tour, all thanks to our incredible guide, Julio! From the very start of the day, Julio brought so much positive energy, enthusiasm, and warmth to the group.
Loved this hike! It has great views and was pretty easy. Marcelo did a great job hosting us and also got some very cool pictures. 10/10 would recommend. We also went a little earlier to avoid people.
Lovely Morning hiking with fabulous guide Julio, hiked at a steady pace and was definitely an adventure. Julio took photos on the way round and we received these couple of days later. Would definitely recommend this trip!
Amazing hike. Great sights. Knowledgeable guide. Great experience and photo opportunities. Everything was well organized.
Beautiful hike with amazing views
Cool hike, Julio was a great guide! Was good to go in the morning when it was cool and before the area got crowded.
We had a great time with Marcello and the rest of the hiking group. We had researched and considered doing the hike on our own but wanted a mental break from navigating and figuring things out after a week of travel in Spain, and we are glad we joined this hike. Marcello was easygoing and took good care of the group, even providing hiking sticks, bottled water, and granola bars. The hike was pretty short and easy, though there are some tricky areas to maneuver around the river and in the canyon. Before those sections, he’d talk us through what to expect and how to traverse safely. It was nothing crazy but just having that explained to us instead of figuring it out on our own made the hike more relaxing and enjoyable. I especially enjoyed him showing us the indigenous herbs, like lemon thyme and rosemary. Marcello showed us the scenic viewpoints and took great photos for us. Highly recommend this hike!
Our family had an amazing time hiking the Canyon of the Monachil Cubs! If you’re looking to get out of the city and experience the incredible natural beauty surrounding Granada, this excursion is absolutely worth it. Our guide, Julio, was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. The drive to the trailhead was only about 20 minutes from Granada, making it an easy half-day adventure. The hike itself lasted around two hours, and we loved every minute. The terrain was varied enough to keep things interesting, with suspension bridges, rocky paths, and beautiful scenery, but it never felt intimidating. Julio shared interesting information about the trail and the surrounding landmarks, which made the experience even more enjoyable. At the end of the tour, Julio even kindly dropped us off closer to our hotel, which was a thoughtful touch and greatly appreciated. Our entire family—two adults and our children (ages 12 and 15)—absolutely loved this trip. It was one of our favorite experiences in Granada, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, scenic, and memorable outdoor adventure.
The Cahorros de Monachil hike offers beautiful scenery and some very enjoyable sections along the river and suspension bridges near Granada. Our guide, Marcello, was extremely kind, helpful, and clearly put a lot of effort into making everyone feel comfortable and safe throughout the tour. That said, the overall pacing was much slower than expected for an experienced and relatively fit group like ours, with many long stops and explanations that were sometimes difficult to follow due to the language barrier. Because of this, we unfortunately could not complete some of the viewpoints and parts of the route originally proposed by our guide. Overall, still a pleasant experience thanks to the stunning landscape and the guide’s warm personality, but the tour organization and pacing could have been improved.
AMAZING experience. The guide was amazing and very interesting explaining the story and way
Enjoyable and fun walk at an easy pace and Julio giving information on the area during walk plus providing photos after walk to download
Wonderful tour that was not to hard and tourguide Marcel was helping and seeing to that eceryone enyoed the tour.
As a hiking tour, there is the opportunity to see the typical village life in the valley, the trees that bear berry fruits, flowers that are in bloom as well the wild rosemary, lemon thyme, lavender reeds etc. The narrow pathways, the series of bridges leading to the canyon ranges from shortest to longest. The sound of the streams and brooks, and the heavy outpour of a big dam alongside another natural waterfalls, is just music to the ears. The cold breeze calms all the senses. There were rock climbers that scaled the canyon. En route were series of very narrow paths that required us to crawl and duck to get trough. My companions were very friendly. The most beautiful part - we had Marcello our tour guide who was one of a kind. He was caring and always ensured we were always safe.
We went at 5 pm in May to avoid strong light. The view is beautiful and Marcello is energetic/friendly.
Our hike with Julio was a highlight of our trip to Spain. It was nice to get out in the countryside, and the views are very picturesque. The hike has a lot of varied terrain—riverside (including crawling and hanging onto handholds in the side of the cliff at times), canyon, hanging bridges, meadow, mountain, and village. The hike is challenging, but not overly brutal. Julio is an excellent photographer and took amazing pictures of the group. Highly recommended for those who like to hike and want something different.
It was such a great hike and Marcelo was informative and looked after us very well. There were suspension bridges and very narrow areas and one bit where we had to crawl under but the views were magnificent. Definitely worth doing
This was a beautiful trip into the mountains outside of Granada, exploring along Manchil river canyon and then up the hills! Lovely views in the sunshine :-) Marcello was a great guide helping with the steep and tight bits - so Much fun!
My husband and I had a great afternoon hike with Marcello. We were the only ones so it was a private trip! The hike was wonderful and so beautiful. Marcello was a great guide and taught us a lot about the area while navigating us. We looked forward to the hike as we knew we’d enjoy an afternoon out of the city after being in Spain a week. We appreciate Marcello being a great guide, nice person, and great photographer (he knew all the good photo spots!). I would not call the hike “easy” (lots of hills and rocky terrain) and I don’t think it’s great for young kids, but it’s all very subjective!
The trail along the river was washed out part way through the loop but we went from the other end and got to see most of it. We had a great time and our guide did an excellent job. Very scenic and a fun hike!
Marcelo was a lovely tour guide! He took plenty of stops so that everyone could keep up…however we would not recommend doing this with young children as there are some areas including the bridge and walking along the aqueduct/river that require some agility.
The hike was through a beautiful canyon area. Most special was the care and interest our guide Marcello had for the outdoors. He made sure we moved at a comfortable pace for all of us, taking stops for photos and to rest. He even surprised us with some candid photos he took as we walked along the trail. A must do experience while here in Granada!
Wonderful morning hike! There were several trails closed but our guide, Marcello, knew his way around and took us on alternate routes. He showed us plants and herbs and told us about the rock formations and local ecology. He also took tons of photos for everyone. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and an excellent driver!
First of all, our guide, Marcello, was fantastic! He was such a positive person. It was clear that he loved being outdoors with us and enjoyed hiking in the canyon. The hike was great and the scenery breathtaking. We moved at a very manageable pace, and Marcello stopped often to allow us to take pictures. He also monitored us carefully to make sure everyone was safe, helping us as needed. Also, he provided water and a snack prior to the hike and more water following the hike. All in all, it was a fantastic experience and a beautiful day in the canyon. Thank you again, Marcello! It was a pleasure to share the hike with you. I very much recommend this tour. It was so worth it. 😊
Beautiful hike, not very challenging. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Part of the hike was closed due to rain damage and flood danger but he took us on an alternate route that was lovely.
Hello can you tel me of de fotos of august 2025 are stil in the cloud and can i download them. thank you Henk from holland and if that is possible were can i found them
Wonderful hike and Marcello is so knowledgeable, funny , and helpful. Would definitely recommend to everyone.
This was an amazing hike - a highlight of our trip to Spain. Marcello was a great guide. He was great with the kids (11 and 7), informative, and super helpful on the few tricky parts of the hike. The hike itself was so fun because it’s a mix of several different terrains, elevations, bridges, some light scrambling, gorgeous views. Highly recommend.
Very pretty hike through a canyon. Some uphill, a little crawling. Would not recommend this for little kids - some high metal handholds. We loved getting out of town. Great, friendly guide.
Marcello was an excellent guide and was very knowledgeable about the region and various herbs we saw along the trail. He also took amazing pictures of us along the way. Very memorable experience!
This was the hike of a lifetime for us but too difficult! Our guide adjusted the pace to our capabilities, taught us so much about the animals and plants along the way , and delivered one of the best experiences we’ve had abroad. Julio is kind and wise! Super helpful!! 10 stars!!
Marcello was a great guide. Our two boys are 9 and 6 and he helped us shepherd them round where they felt they were having an intrepid adventure and we felt they were safe. We all enjoyed the two different parts of the hike, firstly heading into the spectacular canyons and getting “hands on” (and “knees on”!), and then heading higher, with different geology and fauna. Marcello showed us various fragrant herbs growing wild. Very pleased we chose this trip.
An amazing experience. Marcello was an awesome guide. Loved collecting wild herbs. A must do adventure if you enjoy a walk in nature.
Great experience. Marcello managed a really diverse group from 3 countries and 3 totally different language. He also provided water & snacks and was our photographer. Really pleased with the experience. It's good for the whole family, including kids.
Julio delivered a great experience on the hike. He met us early, left the meeting point on time, took us early enough to avoid the crowds and took us on the less travelled part of the hike too. Had water and granola bars to keep our energy up too. Great 4 hour outing
Outstanding Tour with tour guide Marcel. Spectacular low and high canyon scenery. Marcel is an outstanding tour guide who explains the native fauna along the way. Beautiful hike through narrow canyons and across four bridges. Highly recommend Marcel!
Marcello was a fantastic guide. Not only knowledgeable he was cautious in some of the “tricky” areas. Thoroughly enjoyed our time!
The countryside is beautiful, a refreshing respite from urban adventures. Marcello is an excellent guide, patient, supportive and enthusiastic.
Wonderful experience! Did this hike in early October. Our guide, Julio, was extremely experienced and informative. Meet up point was easy to find (try the Maritoni). The scenery was breathtaking. We are both well over 65 and it was a bit challenging at times, but LOVED every minute! We will never forget it!
It was great!!! Beautiful !! The group was very nice and up to hike with Julio, which it is a great guide, told us everything about the Monachil and sierras nevadas. I really recommend this hike and the guide Julio. Thank you!! It was very nice meeting everyone in the group and Julio.
This experience exceeded our expectations! A 30 minute drive to the Sierra Mountain range for a 2.5 hour nature tour. Our guide (Marchello) was excellent. He shared information regarding history of the mountains, residents/farmers and wide variety of plant life. The hike includes a handful of suspension bridge crossings and narrow passages along the River Valley portion of the trail and then a bit of up/down and narrow pathways in the upper Canyon. Not cardio demanding, but you need to be able to walk, climb, crawl and jump a bit as the terrain is quite varied. We loved it—very fun!
