This was a bucket list item. Absolutely loved the experience. Definitely do a guided tour to understand the history of this fortress. Georgia was an awesome guide. We understood the history, the carvings on the door, architecture and paintings. We booked a morning tour online. It was the least crowded. It was a three hour tour. Its a vast fortress. You enjoy the beautiful gardens, fort, palaces quarters and museums as well. Lookout for hand of Fatima above the gates, the painting of the sultans and key above the gates. The lion courtyard with fountain of lions is the highlight. Love the blues and architecture of the moors. Wear good shoes, carry passports, tickets, water. They get passport at multiple points. The fountain and gardens are incredibly beautiful. We enjoyed multiple view points. There are restrooms onsite. As well as multiple hotels and restaurants. This is a must visit!

Complete waste of money! I never got to see anything. As I entered the tour area, the QR Code with the accompanying map did not work - I was told that this was happening a lot lately. I thought I was seeing the Nasrid Palace but was actually taking photos inside of the on-property hotel. No one spoke English and I was surrounded by hordes of visitors speaking Japanese. When I finally found out that there is no paper map, I bought a book with a map in the gift shop. After looking at the map, I discovered that I missed almost all the sites at the southern part of the property. I ran to the Nasrid Palace and was denied entrance because I was too late for my time (that I paid $150 Euros ) The woman at the entrance was so very rude and condescending to me - I tried to explain what happened, and she told me to go ask the information staff - Once I spoke to the information staff - they said it was up to her - the woman at the entrance, She kept saying that she did not understand English. Well, I think that most people understand tears - I sat there for over an hour crying - while she let other people go in - despite the fact that she said it was too late to go in. She told other staff members not to speak to me and refused to help me make a call to the local tour guide company - I had no idea how to dial a foreign phone number in Spain I understand having rules - but this was in no way acceptable behavior and I want a refund At the end of the day- didn't see any of the sites, was treated beyond rude and am totally soured on ever coming to see this place. Unfortunately, a 68 year old woman, traveling alone - had no recourse but to go back to my hotel. I wrote to the administrators of the Alhambra and told them of my experience. I just think that it is unfortunate that ANYONE who is a paying guest - should be treated with this intense rudeness and lack of human dignity. I think that the tour company should stand by their products and I expect that Viator or the company that they subcontract with, will refund my money.
We paid a lot of money for an online booking to the Alhambra with a guided tour. All the guidance is to book in advance or it fills up. I think we’d have been better sorting it in Granada’s tourist information where the staff speak good English. I think it was 175 Euros for the two of us with the online booking . It turned out that we only saw the gardens and didn’t get into the Nasrid Palaces. They seem to be fully pre booked by the big package tour operators . Some people on a railing package holiday, who were in our gardens tour, did get into the palaces and were whisked around in 25 minutes. They were not wowed by what they’d seen. it wasn’t clear when we booked that we wouldn’t see much Moorish art work. I feel very mis-sold. Everywhere was very busy and quite honestly seriously overrated. A young couple with a push chair kept being stopped and had to miss things after they been told beforehand that they could take their push chair everywhere. This was the same for a lady who was a wheelchair user. The best view of the Alhambra is free. Look at it from the city of Granada lit up at night. It’s stunning, Don’t waste your money on an expensive guide with a radio headset that keeps breaking up and they give you very little historical information. I’m not stupid but I could tell you very little after my expensive guided tour.
City Tours was great, our guide Ana was really knowledgable, and obviously cared a great deal about the Alhambra and teaching us about it. Very professional.
The palace itself was beautiful but the guide was absolutely terrible. There is no way to describe how horrible the guide was, sadly I can’t remember her name but she had blonde curly hair and was old. The only thing she talked about was the plants, which for a historical palace was very out of place. Towards the 2 hour mark, we asked her to talk more about the historical aspect of Alhambra. She just nodded and walked away, to never talk about the history of the palace. Our tour was 3 hours which felt way too long because of our guide. Not to mention for 5 people it cost about 218 euros. The experience was horrible, I don’t think we would do this again.
Very interesting about 3hours tour very knowledgeable tour guide we both enjoyed it very much
The palace was as beautiful as expected but the generalife gardens exceeded expectations Stunning, serene, a new vista at every step
I was there 50 years ago and I don't remember the gardens being as stunning!! Of course I'm sure more has been added over the years but it was amazing to see it all again and refresh my memory on the history and the beautiful architecture! We were there 4 hrs, some of it on our own time.
Viator and Chase Travel have yet to let me down! Booked these tickets months ago as they sell out fast and thought 9 am admission would work- nope, cruise ship docks at 7:30 and it’s a 2 hr drive from cruise port to Granada and another 20 min taxi ride to Alhambra. Neither Viator nor Chase Travel could change my ticket as everything was sold out. Viator got creative and although we missed our tour group- we still got in and it was amazing! The Alhambra staff was also super helpful- lots of staff approaching tourists from all over the world and patiently answering questions. Well done, Alhambra!
We booked with GetYourGuide and we ended up with Jose as our guide and he was absolutely amazing. He truly loves what he’s doing and my husband and I would’ve missed so much information had we tried to do it by ourselves. Jose works for Viaternum.
Wonderful tour. The guide was low key and informative. He let us do our own exploring and enhanced the experience with information and tips. It was quite crowded and he was very helpful and good natured as we maneuvered through the other groups.
We went to the alhambra this month and were offered a private tour. We were reluctant at first given the additional cost. We were so glad we did. The alhambra is a complex experience for the first time visitor. We decided to hire an official guide and found that Yoshi Simon Doherty was the very best. He is extremely knowledgeable and gives an astounding presentation. The alhambra experience requires interpretation. Without it a naive visitor misses so much. This tour was well worth the cost. Ask for Yoshi Simon Doherty!
The palace is wonderfull with great historical background. Its worth to visit the place and local guides are excellent. You will learn the historical basics of creation of Spain.
Beautiful place, wonderful architecture and history. Nice cool gardens and sweeping views
Our guide Gus was amazing really informative. Gave us a really good tour. Would highly recommend. Unfortunately our tour was cut short sure to an earthquake ! In the whole the place is very busy and crowded but with our guide we were kept together and once you are in the gardens. Yiu get to spread out doesn’t feel super busy ( but it was)
very handy to have an compledt walking tour.. the place is huge.. and to enter the palace is limited. because alhambra was not only a palace but a city...surrpund by gardens very beautifull
We visited Alhambra Palace one of the most breathtaking architectural wonders in Granada Spain. Alhambra Palace was built during 13th and 14th centuries by the Nasrid Dynasty, the last Muslim rulers of the Iberian Peninsula, We walk through the Alcazaba, the oldest part of the Alhambra, The massive military fortress the Watch Tower for panoramic views of Granada, the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the surrounding countryside. We took the tour of Nasrid Palace and other sections as well Alhambra is much more than a palace. Every courtyard, fountain, carving, and garden tells the story of one of the most remarkable civilizations in medieval Spain. Our guide was very kind and knowledgeable, we really recommend GetYourGuise to for Almambra Tours
Arno’s tour of the magnificent and historic Alhambra was fun and entertaining. The Alhambra id magnificent but so important to Spain’s history. Arno let us in on a number of “secrets” of the Alhambra.
Our accommodation was walking distance from the palace and we were admitted around 8:30 ( before the mass of people arrived) . You need to bring your passport as it is required a number of times during your visit as you pass from one area to another. Built in the 13th century, medieval Islamic palace with its striking moorish architecture, court of lions, stucco walls and its carved wooden ceilings is breathtaking. It must have been a wonderful summer residence with its lush terraced water features, various courtyards and panoramic views of Granada. We were as a group fortunate to have a tour guide who highlighted the various structures - and our visit took around 3 hours . The palace is a must for a visit took around Granada and admission tickets sell out quickly - do book on-line to avoid disappointment.
Amazing experience! Worth the time and braving the crowds to see. We had a tour guide and that made all the difference. Don’t know how you could appreciate the many things about the Alhambra without an educated person showing you around. It was hot. It was crowded. And it was amazing!!
We visited a few years ago and couldn't get into the palaces, so we specifically returned with that objective. Surprisingly, whilst absolutely beautiful, you can't really appreciate the splendor because of the vast number of people milling through the palaces and hogging prime spots to get their selfies or Instagram shots. The photos taken when the palaces are empty by professional photographers are the best. That said, this is still a wonderful place to visit. The gardens are beautifully kept and less crowded than the palaces. At the height of the tourist season, this must be a nightmare to visit so plan your visit accordingly. Book well in advance.
My wife and I did the private guided Alhambra tour. We booked the guide directly at website. Email- info@alhambratours.com First you need to purchase your tickets from the only legitimate seller https//tickets.alhambra-patronato.es The type of ticket is "Alhambra general ", pick a suitable time to visit. Do it ASAP as tickets runs out fast. Margarita was excellent. It was about 3 hours tour. Would strongly recommend using them to visit the Alhambra.
Being a bit of a spur-of-the-moment traveler, I missed the three-month-out ticket purchase window and had to do this the (very) expensive way, with a guide. She was personable, funny, very knowledgeable (masters in comparative religion, very useful here). But…. very expensive. Next time I will book early and get the audio guide, ALWAYS through the official website. And there WILL be a next time, it is a World Heritage site for good reason.
The Alhambra completely exceeded expectations. Every courtyard, mosaic, and carved archway feels like a work of art. The Nasrid Palaces were especially impressive, with incredible detail everywhere you look. The Generalife gardens were peaceful and offered beautiful views over Granada. Arriving early helped avoid the biggest crowds and made the experience much more enjoyable. Easily one of the most memorable landmarks in Spain.
Absolutely beautiful… both the buildings and the gardens. We did a 2.5 hour private tour and then spent another hour visiting the museums and shops. So much history and testament to the Islamic heritage in Spain.
The hotel was superbly located...we just had an overnight stay for night tour of Alhambra...rooms were big and clean...yet the toilet and bidet in the bathroom were " wrongly placed...bidet was right in front of toilet seat"... Big members of family had a hard time manuevering their way to the toilet seat"...buffet was very good and lots of choices...staff were friendly...
There were some interesting architecture designs and the gardens were beautiful, but I guess I was expecting more historical artifacts, like we saw at Tokpaki palace in Istanbul. If you are in Granada you should do it for sure. I tried to buy tickets two months in advance but it was already sold out, so I had to join a guided tour. Probably a good idea any ways.
A fantastic morning spent with Ana from City Wonders tours. Such a remarkable place, so full of beauty and history. The gardens and water fountains bring a sense of peace. Ana was an excellent guide with encyclopaedic knowledge. Highly recommended
The tour guide was amazing and very informative and personable. She made the two + hour tour a most enjoyable experience. On the other hand I had a horrible experience with the metered parking. Upon leaving you are supposed to take the ticket you were given when entering the grounds to a location that had a kiosk that would read your ticket and you could pay to validate it. The kiosk would not accept credit cards for some reason so I paid by cash 16.70 Euros! When I presented the ticket at the gate to leave the park it would not raise the gate to allow our car to pass. We turned around the car and found an attendant in a booth who confirmed that the ticket was not validated. Unfortunately I did not take a receipt, but he said he could not help me and I would have to pay again if I wanted to leave. Since I was very tired and my legs were aching from the tour (I’m 75 yrs old) I had had enough. So I had to go back to a different kiosk which did accept my credit card. This time I was charged 16,10 Euros and my parking ticket was finally validated after spending over 32 Euros! Needless to say this left a very bad taste in my mouth after a wonderful tour!
Audio guide didn't work at all, it requires good internet connection. For any of five of us it didn't work at all (phones from different countries). The ticket did not include the main attraction-Nasrid Palace; we paid a lot of money $75 each, booked 5 weeks in advance. This seems like deliberately done to confuse and make profit. One of the people at the gate said it happens all the time, many get scammed. So, please read the ticket very carefully, especially small print at the very end. However, place is fantastic and makes an impression even from the outside.
A beautiful experience, I enjoyed walking through the city and of course, Alhambra - a Beautiful place!
Get Your Guide were appalling. My sister and I booked a guided trip from Malaga to the Alhambra Palace and Granada on March 9, it was paid for and confirmed with a tour of the Palace. On April 1st at 8pm the company Get Your Guide had apparently outsourced the trip to ALLin MALAGA. com cancelled the trip, just 12 hours before we were due to go. They said it was a 'political event' in Granada, when I said this was nonsense they said it was the fault of the Alhambra who were disorganised. They clearly hadn't booked and paid for the tickets when they needed too. We were deeply disappointed as the visit to the Alhambra and Granada was supposed to be a highlight of our trip. We did get our money back through Get Your Guide but this was not the point. Had we been told even a few days earlier that they were useless, we could probably have booked tickets. Jet2 did manage to get us a trip to Granada, but we could not go into the Palace. There has been no real apology and we feel that Get Your Guide are really not dependable. We do not want other people to be disappointed.
Booked Nasrid Palace tour at night with MyTopTour. Booking made and confirmed over 3 weeks before arrival. Payment tsken day of booking. Tickets not sent via email, but that also true of another tour we booked with them. Week before tour date received WhatsApp to say because of a 'system error' there was no capacity and our booking was cancelled. Since then, seen many other reviews from last few months all saying the same. Do not trust Mytoptour with your booking, what should have been a highlight of our Spanish road trip has turned into a disappointment. Could still book the same experience on the night we should have gone but at 4x price, so looks like our booking was sacrificed to make even more money
I went with Sultana Tours for a guided night walk. We paid £130 for Nasida Palace tour but went to several other places apart from Nasida Palace. No advance warning or apology from the guide. This is a scam and you are encouraged to steer clear of Viatour who offered no explanation or satisfactory response.
It took over 250 years to complete. It is a piece of History. Our tour took just under 3 hours and was absolutely top notch! Our guide Isabelle had 20 years of experience in providing tours of Alhambra! She was smashing! It is truly amazing! This is must if you’re traveling to Granada or Spain!
We just (March 2026) visited the Alhambra and had the most exquisite time there! We booked our tickets through the official website of the Alhambra and then reached out to Simon via email (yoshiosimondoherty@gmail.com.) with a request for information on a small private walking tour. We then connected more over WhatsApp to learn more and make meeting plans. Simon was born in Granada. He has an excellent sense of humor, and my husband and I and our adult kids had an amazing time with him. We learned so much about the history, cultures and people who built and supported the Alhambra! We also enjoyed the casual, fun and enlightening conversation we shared with Simon at lunch on our tour. As much as we wanted to learn about life in Granada and Spain, we found that Simon was equally curious to learn about where we are from. Our discussion was fun, just like having a glass of wine with friends! During our tour, Simon knew all of the best places to take photos, and he actually acted as our private photographer which we so appreciated. He used one of our phones, directed us on where to stand and snapped fantastic photos quickly! The best part is Simon never rushed us. He wanted us to experience the beauty of the fountains, the gardens, the art and the architecture without feeling pressured to move along. Simon clearly loves the Alhambra. Take a tour with him! You won’t be disappointed!
An amazing place to visit and soak in the history. The Palace is beautiful and shows the varied inspirations of different cultures over time. It was raining on our visit so probably didn’t see it at its best but it was still worth the tour.
A guided tour of this fantastic place is not to be missed. The guide was able to give us such great insights and understanding of the various “lives” of Alhambra- what a fascinating history it has.
Such a beautiful place and a must see. Good such beautiful architecture. We had a guided tour and definitely recommend if you want to see this place. It was a lovely day so we could appreciate the gardens more. Really big so need a few hours
Wear thermals ! We froze as it was a cold day in March ! Great place lots to see. Takes about 2 hrs. Cafe/ shop were a bit disappointing but the place itself was fascinating xxx
Ideal location worth a visit. world heritage site . this outing is a must whilst your stay in granada. go up in taxi and come back on foot just fifteen mins from city center.
The tour through the Alhambra was excellent. The guide Gustavo A. is great, competent, full of information and very friendly. He even took photos of us. We recommend this tour.
Hector of GranaVision did a private tour for Alhambra and made it a day to remember and the best of the entire trip to Spain and the Andalusian region! He made it into an engaging mission and used humor in storytelling. The qualities of an outstanding educator.
An extraordinary complex lace-like Nasrid palaces, the Generalife gardens, and sweeping city views. Book ahead and arrive early to enjoy the quieter hours.
If you are planning this trip ensure that you are touring the entire palace and not just the Generalife area. Amazing as it is, the cheaper tours will not include the phenomenal Moorish interiors and tiling, which is really the whole point in going. That said, if you are content with a walk around some exquisite gardens with fabulous panoramic views then do just this and spend more time in the fabulous City of Granada.
Booked a trip through viator and because of persimal reasons we had to be very specific about times. We had online contact through the online chat with a woman who was absolutely exceptional . We were offered 2 morning options and we took one that worked for us . We made the almost 4 hour drive and booked accommodation only to be emailed on the journey to be told our slot was 16.0 hours not the 11 am we were offered and accepted. These people are selling things they cannot deliver on. The stress and anxiety this has caused is immeasurable not to mention the wasted money . We attempted to cancel the tickets and were over 24 hours before the slot and we were told this was not possible either. I would strongly advise anyone thinking of using viator not to. They have acted with an outstanding level of disregard. It is fortunate that these online chats are recorded in transcript but this will not ease the distress this has caused. Please use your money with caution where viator are concerned.
Our Granada based guide Anna did an excellent job taking our group through the many time periods and layers of the Alhambra! That part was wonderful Granda not so much. The tour was advertised to be 11 hours but because of a late start was 12.
A sprawling complex calls for guidance to navigate it for a pleasant and complete experience. Mirian, with TBL, successfully did that. We avoided the crowds, benefitted from her expertise on what we were looking at with many informative tidbits.
The Alhambra is absolutely stunning! The mix of history, art, and architecture is just incredible. Every room has so much detail — beautiful tiles, arches, and carvings that make you stop and stare. The gardens are gorgeous and peaceful, perfect for walking around and taking photos — one of the highlights of Spain for sure!
Do not book your tickets thru the Tripadvisor website when there is more than 1 person in your party as individual ID is required and will not match your Tripadvisor receipt. The second or third persons will be ejected.
