Itinerary
Set of historical gardens from various periods and their palatial buildings, some from the Nasrid period.
They are the residences that the different sultans of the Nasrid period used for themselves and their court. There are three main areas, independent but connected to each other: Mexuar, Palacio de Comares and Palacio de los Leones.
The oldest venue and therefore the first to be built. This enclosure, in addition to protecting the sultan, contained an entire miniature city to house the royal service and the sultan's guard.
The most beautiful Spanish Renaissance palace was built in the middle of the Alhambra as a symbol of victory of the empire that defeated the last Muslim kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula.
We must not miss visiting the Palacio del Partal, from which it takes its name, and contemplate the pond next to it, and the Torre de las Damas, the only remains that have been preserved of it.

Great to have a tour guide because this site is huge and can be very confusing. Our tour guide knew exactly what route to take and gave us good info along the way. She even gave us a quick break for bathroom and souvenirs at a local shop.
The size of the Alhambra beggars believe. The whole experience is amazing from the gardens, terraces and patios to the ornate interiors. Appreciate the architecture and craftsmanship on a grand scale. A true cultural experience. Our three hour guided tour was excellent.
A bit on expensive side booking with GetYourGuide. Entry was smooth with tour guide, crowded for single entry. Nice experience, unexpected impact of Generalife. Take certified guide, like Marta Soler, she has good local history knowlege and make your tour very interesting.
Although our guide was running late, and had an issue with 3 other visitors in our group not having their paperwork in line, he managed to fix the situation, and made the most of our time in the Alhambra. We also encountered rain, but that never stopped the commentary and knowledge. Unfortunately I cannot recall our guide's name, but he was extremely knowledgeable about the history and religions, and very passionate about passing this on to us. Well done Señor.
The tour was very informative. It was good to arrive early with few other tourists. We appreciated the 15 minute comfort break.
Emilio was an excellent guide to a magnificent location. Absolutely worth doing.
The tour is well worth the time and money. If you get a chance pick Emilo as your guide (English tour). He is not only VERY knowledgeable but paces the tour for all, which important in summer heat.
Worthwhile tour to learn history of the Alhambra. Note the meeting point is in the parking lot, at the bottom of a flight of stairs.
Marta was a great guide and we enjoyed the slow paced friendly walk. We were a small group so plenty of time to chat and take pictures. It was hot but we took breaks and didnt feel rushed at all despite the crowds.
Eva was fantastic! She had a lot of great insight on the Alhambra and its history. I would highly recommend this tour.
Marta is a fantastic guide and so polite. The best possible Alhambra tour.
We were lucky to have Marta Soler as our guide for the tour of the Alhambra, particularly the Alcazaba, with the Generalife palace and its magnificent gardens. The visit with Marta was very enjoyable — she was always available to kindly answer every question we asked, and she gave us all the time we needed to admire the beauty of this magnificent historic site at our own pace. Thank you once again, Marta, for this unforgettable experience.
Lots of walking. Almost 5kms. Bring lots of water. Guide was very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour.
Excellent, knowledgeable guide, amiable, attentive to needs, open to questions, very pleasant experience. However, we bought tickets in Canada, were charged in American dollars but were not informed of this fact. Annoying, costly and underhanded. Will not use your service again.
The Good: The guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the history and workings of the Alhambra. The Bad: Admin is really scrambled. At least two tour members were turned away at the entrance because their tickets were misprinted, and at least one at the Nasrid Palaces because their ticket printed with a completely different, earlier time slot than everyone else’s. The tour ticket can be refunded but some people organize a trip to Granada mainly or solely because they want to see the Alhambra, so something like this can be devastating for them.
Honest information about history of Alhambra. The hole journey was 2,5 hour long
Jose as our guide did a wonderful tour throughout all of Alhambra. Highly recommend the tour of Alhambra and General Life with Madrid Palaces
Terrible Experience. I was told at 11 pm the night before my visit at 9.30 the next morning that they had made a mistake entering my passport details when they booked my ticket for the Alhambra and that the ticket had someone else's name on and not mine (the tickets for the Alhambra are specific to each person and identified by official id such as a passport. If the details are not correct then the ticket becomes invalid and it cannot be transferred to another person). They then offered me a ticket for a tour outside the main areas by trying to say it was a similar tour - just more 'compact', which is an insult to anyone who has booked to get into the main area which is the area for which a ticket is needed. The full Alhambra visit was the main focus of my trip to Granada. I had booked this before I even committed to buying a flight and accommodation. I have now had to organise a return trip in 6 months at further expense. I am lucky as I have the money to do this and I am 'only' a 3 hour hour flight away but I should not have had to do this at all. The only thing I can say in their favour is that they said that when I returned they would give me the tour for free and that they would send visual proof that the ticket had been ordered and that the details were correct. This is worth the one stair rating I have given it (we can't give no stars for an experience). Obviously they did refund my money and I did not take them up on the other tour as the areas are free and I was certainly not going to give this company any of my money. (They didn't even offer it for free they wanted 22 euros for that). My advice to anyone visiting the Alhambra to book directly through the offical website which is actually not immediately apparent on searching. The website is tickets.alhambra-patronato.es. This site warns people to take care when booking with tour guides as this often results in disappointment when people are let down as I was. I will never know if it was just general incompetence when this company booked my ticket or that they were overestimating their ability to get me a ticket one month is advance and totally uncaring of a random tourist's bitter disappointment but either way it is unprofessionalism of a very high order. I have read other reviews where people have had the same experience with this company. My advice is to avoid them or at least make sure they give you visual proof of a correctly booked Alhambra ticket. This should have your correct name on the passport, passport number, time of entry into the Nasrid palace and the day. I hope this feedback can help at least someone avoid the disappointment I experienced
BEWARE. BOOK WELL AHEAD because this is a truely wonderful place to visit, oozing history and prickling all your senses. Our guide was extremely good and I learnt a lot. However only two stars given since during the visit we heard we would not be seeing the Nasrid Palace, although I purchased tickets about 5 weeks beforehand. Apparently tickets to it are sold out at least 2 months ahead, at this time of year: Providors presumably hope to pick up a cancelled Nasrid Palace ticket closer to the time. It didn’t work for us. Viaternum’s T&C small print does say they don’t guarantee access to everything but I naively assumed this meant due to refurbishment or events. They did give a partial refund without me having to ask. Don’t be disappointed - book really early.
Emilio was an amazing tour guide who gave us a great understanding into the history of the Alhambra. He also went at a good pace for us to appreciate the different areas, take photos and ask questions (including breaks and pace of walking given the Alhambra is a huge area to cover with plenty of other visitors). We would highly recommend this tour!
This is a scam. Do not book with them as you will only be disappointed. We were cancelled the night before our tour. After spending money on flights and a hotel for 2 nights in Granada we were told that our tour would not go ahead. We are a family of 4 so had spent a lot on the tickets and travelled from the UK.
It was drizzling and we were told to be at the meeting point 15 mins before the tour but the guide turned up at 9.35am which was frustrating as the tour was scheduled to start at 9.30am. Her heart didn’t seem to be in it and she spoke too quickly, was difficult to understand and the group was way too big as she’d stop and speak about something but due to the crowds if you weren’t basically beside her you didn’t really know what she was referring to which is why we paid for a guided tour. Seemed like just a job for her no enthusiasm. Other people on the tour shared their disappointment with us. For the money that we paid it was a waste - should have just walked around ourselves .
I was a bit wary at first - needing to spend quite a lot extra on a guided ticket to ensure we could visit the Alhambra, not really that excited about a group guided tour… but but but, we had an AMAZING visit! A lot of that was because Jose was truly a special guide. Such detailed expertise and breadth of knowledge, but delivered in a thoughtful, digestible and engaged way. Never overbearing, attentive to the group. We learnt so much about the social and political history of that period, the Islamic influences in Spanish culture, the architectural styles, the poetry, so much layered detail through which to see the beauty around in multiple dimensions. The earpiece based approach also helps to make the tour your own, and it never felt we never felt like herded sheep. A very big thank you to Jose!! As for the Alhambra, and especially the Nasrid palaces… I’m lost for words. After all the hype and expectation, it achieves something on a sublime plane that our vocabulary has not yet captured. Mesmerising, an experience of a lifetime…
Emilio was great guide and would highly recommend
I received a text on WhatsApp after 11 pm the night before the Alhambra tour that the tour company had made an administrative error, and my travel companion and I had entry times to the Nasrid Palace five and half hours apart - one being with the tour group at 9:30 as planned, the other having to go through the palace on their own at 3 pm. After paying a considerable amount of money for the tour, both of us were extremely disappointed with how this was handled and how we were notified. We abandoned the tour group we were supposed to be with and just went through the site on our own. We were told that a portion of the fees would be refunded. Two and a half weeks later, there is still no refund on my credit card statement.
The details entered on two tickets was the same. This was an autofill error that frankly they should have picked up. Fortunately we were able to gain access but their service was absolutely not worth the premium. Although the lady giving the tour was friendly the audio system difficult to hear and decipher.
The Alahambra was an amazing palace. The guide was so knowledgeable on the history of the place and of Grenada. Should not be missed
I received a WhatsApp message from the tour operator Viaternum Tours the day before our scheduled tour to tell us that they had had a system error and that our tickets (booked and paid for a month earlier) had been cancelled! They offered to reschedule us in the upcoming weeks which of course made no sense as we’d be back home across the Atlantic by then. We now must wait for our expected refund……bush league!
We booked an Alhambra guided tour with Viaternum Tours via Tiqets, and the tour never took place. The night before, we received a message saying the tickets had been issued under the wrong name and ID due to a “computer error,” which made them unusable. That meant no entry and no tour. At the meeting point, it became clear this was not an isolated case — many people had received the same message and were left in the same situation. No one answered calls, there was no representative present, and no attempt was made to fix the problem or offer any alternative. We were simply told the tour could not happen. This is a complete failure in handling bookings for a high-demand site like the Alhambra. Several customers were left without the experience they paid for, with zero support. I would not trust this company with any important booking.
A truly remarkable area to visit with so much history and so much unique architecture. Our guide Lara made the visit truly incredible with her upbeat personality and extensive knowledge of the entire region, not just the Alhambra. Would definitely recommend this to her to anyone who enjoys history and wants to get 10 times more out of their visit than they would if they just walked around without a guide.
Emilio gave a wonderful tour & he was an interesting, informative & knowledgeable guide. He provided lots of tidbits of information that made the Alhambra come alive. I would highly recommend this tour and Emilio as the tour guide!!
Great…very informative. Our guide was easy to understand. Wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking involved
The Alhambra is a wonderful world-historical monumental site, stunning in beauty, of course. Everyone should see it. Our tour with Eva made it even better. She's well informed, bright, and fun to be with.
This review is completely separate from the tour guide that we had, Emilio, who really made up for the fact that the company cancelled the Nasrid Palaces with notice only given a day before the actual tour. If you want to visit the Nasrid Palaces, don’t book with this company if you want to be certain of getting in, but rather buy the tickets two months ahead of time either on the official website or with a different company that doesent seem to have a pattern of sending last minute messages with disappointing news. While we are to receive a partial refund, the Nasrid Palaces are still open which leads me to believe the company does not have a good system with the purchasing of tickets. Again if it wasn’t for this companies inability to secure tickets to the palace, this would be a five star because Emilio was absolutely incredible (informative and engaging). Again, DONT book this tour if you want to secure Nasrid palace tickets as well
My wife and I booked and paid €49 per person specifically for a guided tour including access to the Nasrid Palaces. This was the central and essential element of the service advertised and sold. We travelled internationally to Spain and onward to Granada for the express purpose of participating in this tour. Upon arrival, we were informed at extremely short notice, at 23:30 the night before, that the palace tickets had not been secured. Instead, we were handed general tickets worth €12.73 Furthermore, we have now learned that this has happened repeatedly across your tours this week, which clearly demonstrates this was not an isolated error but a systemic failure. It is evident that your company was aware that tickets had not been secured and failed to inform customers in a timely manner, allowing us to incur travel expenses under false pretences. The company fails to respond to phone calls, and becomes incommunicado. They are a scam company, avoid!
As of 2026, I don't recommend this Tour provider at all. We had booked a full Alhambra experience tour including Nasrid Palaces months ago, and we're given a barcode voucher which stated all including with a guide. At midnight before the tour we received a text per Whatsapp to inform us that visiting the main element of the tour, I.e. Nasrid Palaces was not to be included. The tour provider refused to respond to our calls and messages. We turned up at the meeting point the following morning and found out that eveeyone else who had booked the tour with Viarturnum was treated the same. On further investigation we realised that this was happening all week, and on reading past reviews that it has been an ongoing issue. We were given 12 Euro tickets for the day for the most basic tour of Alhambra, whereas everyone on the tour had paid ca. 50 Euro per person for the full experience months in advance. The response from the company was very weak, not acknowledging that they sold tickets they never had to sell. We are still waiting for a refund. Our tour guide did his best to stretch the tour through the gardens and make the most of it, but the whole group went away with having missed out on the actual Alhambra, the main reason for the visit. I will not recommend the company at all, and reading review too late, this has apparently being happening since more than a year.
Alhambra itself was a wonderful place to visit but the company we booked was very unprofessional. We paid for Alhambra, general life and the Nasrid palace but they cancelled the Nasrid palace with a WhatsApp text at 2300 pm the night before. We had to book an Uber just to be in time specially for Nasrid palace which they overbooked and cancelled ours. Outrageous. But it felt as breathtaking beauty, looking at city of Granada from Alhambra. Absolutely recommend but please plan early and get tickets from there official site as they sold out months ahead.
The Alhambra palace was excellent, however our guide was very disappointing. He did not even introduce himself, so I don't know his name. His English was very poor and did not speak clearly or explain concepts well. He also finished 15 min early. No comparison to another tour we had recently where the price was dependent on the quality of the tour.
We had a very good conducted tour (conducted through Viaternum Tours). Emilio explained things very well. The one thing that people booking these tours should be aware of is that the time slot for the Nasrid Palace is known quite late (through Whatsapp) and they need to keep adequate flexibility for the day.
Excellent experience. A highly rated & experienced guide. It has been a pleasure, one of the best places I visited and I will definitely recommend to anyone
Great tour, Emielio was an excellent guide. Would highly recommend if visiting the Alhambra, very knowledgeable and plenty of time for photos & questions
Excellent tour! Our guide was great! So friendly and knowledgeable. The earpieces were great so we could explore and still hear her. Highly recommend!
Nicely organized tour for an introduction to the Alhambra. We visited both the summer and winter palaces. Would have liked a bit more depth to explanations.
They literally cancelled the tour the day before and gave us a “partial refund” which was still way more expensive than buying tickets to the palace would have been. Avoid this tour at all costs.
Alhambra is a fortress, a series of beautiful palaces and gardens and a summer palace. A guided tour provides the context and the organization to really enjoy the experience!
Emilio did an outstanding job guiding us through the Alhambra this morning. If you’re able to ask for him, you should. He was cheerful, knowledgeable, entertaining and informative. The tour was well structured and well paced and everything went smoothly. Expensive but excellent. Well worth it especially if you’re too late to get tickets direct from the Alhambra.
Well organized. Timely start. Our guide (Emilio) was very good. Very good and clear communication prior to start.
It's a huge site and a guide helps one make the most of it to understand more of the history and culture of the time.
The format was good for us. We made our own way there. Meeting point was near the Alhambra. Easy to find and quiet location. Eva, our tour guide, was right on time. She was most personable and knowledgeable. Group size (20) was good. We could have spent more time at the Alcazaba and Nasrid Palace but that's the constraint of a three-hour tour, which nears the limits of my attention span, anyway 🤣. The tour ends inside the Alhambra so you can explore on your own but there is no re-entry to the palaces. The Alhambra is truly a gem. Eva helped us learn about its architecture and history. We fully enjoyed ourselves.
