Itinerary
The best-conserved palace from the Al-Andalus Islamic sovereigns in Spain. Really one of the most amazing monuments you can visit.
Standing at the entrance, admire the Horseshoe Arch and the Christian coat of arms, symbolizing the shift from Moorish rule to Spanish conquest in 1492.
A beautiful horseshoe-arched gate, the Puerta del Vino once led to the royal palaces. The name may come from its role as a place where wine was once traded, although some historians suggest it refers to its decorative colors.
This wide esplanade sits above the Alhambra’s water reservoirs (“aljibes”), offering a fantastic panoramic view of the Albaicín and Sacromonte neighborhoods. It’s a perfect moment to take in the fusion of Islamic and Renaissance architecture.
The Alcazaba, the oldest part of the Alhambra, functioned as a military fortress. Climb the Torre de la Vela (Watchtower) for breathtaking 360° views of Granada. The tower bell, famously rung every January 2nd, marks the day the Catholic Monarchs took the city from the Nasrids.
A dramatic contrast to the Islamic-style structures around it, Palacio de Carlos V was built in the 16th century by Emperor Charles V to emphasize Spanish dominance. The massive circular courtyard inside is one of Spain’s finest Renaissance designs.
The Partal Gardens feature reflective pools, Moorish towers, and lush vegetation, making it one of the most picturesque spots in the Alhambra. The nearby Torre de las Damas (Ladies’ Tower) preserves elegant Nasrid-style balconies overlooking the gardens.
This hidden gem is one of the most richly decorated residential towers in the Alhambra, showcasing some of the finest Islamic stucco and tilework. The name “Cautiva” (captive) refers to a Christian noblewoman who was rumored to have lived here after being taken by the sultan.
Walk through the gates of the Generalife, the summer palace and gardens of the Nasrid sultans. This estate provided a peaceful retreat away from the formalities of court life.
This modern open-air theater hosts cultural events and Granada’s International Festival of Music and Dance. Surrounded by gardens, it blends contemporary arts with the Alhambra’s historic backdrop.
One of the most iconic sites in the Alhambra, the Patio de la Acequia (Courtyard of the Water Channel) is the heart of the Generalife. Its flowing fountains, fragrant flowers, and delicate archways create a paradise-like setting.
This unique Nasrid-era stairway is designed with flowing water channels carved into the stone handrails, cooling the area as visitors ascend. The sound of trickling water enhances the serene atmosphere of the Generalife.
Your journey through the Alhambra and Generalife concludes with a peaceful walk along the Paseo de las Adelfas (Oleander Walkway), where you can reflect on the beauty and grandeur of the Moorish legacy in Spain.

The audio tour was terrible. You had to listen through your phone and it was poorly explained. You had to go to one office by cab to get the ticket and then another cab to the Alhambra. Everything was poorly marked with nobody to ask directions. I paid an extra $100 to see the palace and couldn’t find the palace. Not worth the money. You need a guided tour of this place
We booked through something called "Play Granada" because no tickets were left to purchase directly from the official Alhambra site. Apparently Play Granada is a kind of scalper that buys up the limited number of tickets available and then sells them at a much higher price with the "benefit" of an audio guide. Annoyingly you cannot go directly to the main entrance but first must go to the PG office. We were told to arrive 15 minutes early. There was no one there. We waited and eventually someone arrived. The person working was friendly and competent. We downloaded the guide onto our phones and then walked 20 minutes to the entrance gate. The audio guide left much to be desired. Rambling, with flowery little stories that I didn't need to hear. Then withing a few hours the guide disappeared from my phone, and a while later from my wife's as well. Advice: try to book months in advance directly with the official Alhambra site and avoid outfits like this. But if this is the only way you can get a ticket, do it. The Alhambra is truly amazing.
Showed up at play Granada 2 days before tour. Not allowed to pick up tickets but received assurance that I could pick up tickets early on Sunday. Showed up Sunday morning, office was closed. We called all numbers, managed to get a TripAdvisor rep who didn’t know what was happening. Someone finally showed up 30 minutes late. Tour itself had no gps - there was this mythical green dot that we were supposed to follow. It never appeared. Loved the Alhambra, but Play Granada is not the way to see it.
Way overpriced for the tour, not worth it.
We booked with Play Granada. Luckily we got there in reasonable time as I didn't read all the information on my email until we got to the Alhambra. We should have gone to the Play Granada office, a few miles away to collect our entry tickets. Completely my fault, luckily I was able to contact Eva in the office, who very kindly sent me the QR codes direct to my phone so we could gain entry. We spent a few enjoyable hours wandering around the palaces and gardens in the afternoon sun. Although busy, not over crowded due to the time of year. There is a large rose garden, complete with pomegranite trees and ponds. I particularly enjoyed the film show, imagining how the Alhambra could have looked if it had been finished. We stopped for lunch at the charming Hotel America situated within the grounds. I had a delicious tomato, mackerel and avoccado salad and my husband enjoyed a plate of roasted vegetables and papas fritas. We both enjoyed desserts, the flan and the chocolate and orange tart, both of which we highly recommend. My husband and I enjoyed our visit and would happily return and would consider staying in the Hotel America. Parking can be booked in advance and obviously gets booked up early in high season. There is also an environmental charge for cars driving in the city. These can be looked up online and paid fir in advance to recieve the relevant sticker.
It’s very confusing which way to go. I got confused and started from the end. Then had to retract a lot to understand where I am. The map or the staff handing out the audio guide should specify accurately which route to take after entering. The place is huge and you can get lost easily. The audio guide was too long and becomes boring.
Save your money and buy a ticket for 12eu at the gate. This tour is very misleading and way overpriced for what you get The Nasrid Palace is NOT INCLUDED. (This palace is the only reason to pay a higher price because it sells out early.) The tour operator Playa forces you to go to their office to get the tickets that they could just email you, probably to just try and sell you other exorbitant tours.
The Alhambra is stunning - really worth a visit. Wear comfortable shoes! Just two things to bear in mind with booking this particular ticket - it doesn’t give you access to the main palace (but does to others and all the gardens) and you have to pick your ticket up from the office in town - NOT at the main entrance! So make sure you download the full PDF and read it carefully, not just go on the text message and email you get
Amazing tour! Unforgettable experience! Incredible Alhambra tour! Stunning sights, easy entry. Unforgettable tour!
The Alhambra is such a beautiful place as is Granada we will definitely be back soon to explore more
Audioguide was very bad and incomplete. All the palasts where missing, the actual Alhambra!
A shambles of an experience. The voucher collection is a long way from the Alhambra where you need to get tickets. No clear directions around site and unhelpful employees. If you take a bus up you should be able to get off then get back on the same number bus but the driver won’t let you.
The Alhambra is obviously stunning and beautiful but don’t visit on a Monday as the museum’ are shut. Also I understand that the building needs protecting but the staff are rude and officious.
Al hambra is beautiful and fantastic. The audio is not worth while. The internet connectiong is very poor, the sound is terrible, the green Dots are not connected, cannot recommend.
The staff tried to explain that they charge €70 for a €12 ticket. After a major scuffle, they were quite understanding I understand their problem with TripAdvisor and Viator who designed their website page. However, when you purchase your ticket, make sure it says that the palace is included. If it’s not included, be aware of the gardens are beautiful, but you will be disappointed that you cannot see the inside of the palace, which is the central feature of the Alhambra.
Audio guide was a bit repetitive and no information on how people lived there. We have up on the last 2 recordings.
Eva was very helpful when we didn’t realise we had to go into the office. She sorted out tickets in a really friendly helpful way, thank you 🙏
Eva was very helpful and was supportive when we messed up with our tickets. Would definitely recommend her she was a great support
Too much to see in one day. Very interesting place.
The ticket bought to Tripadvisor does not included the Nazaries Palaces visited and we didn’t receive any advise. The Alhambra Palace is closed due to earthquake notice and we didn’t receive any notice about it and any discounts.
The Alhambra was amazing! The tour office where we picked up the tickets was tucked away in a lovely little spot and everyone in the office were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It felt like a secret entrance heading up to the Alhambra from the tour office. It was a lovely hike up to the entrance. We went early in the day and I would recommend booking for the same time, it gets quite crowded later. The attraction is huge and the grounds are so beautiful. The best part of the experience was the phenomenal audio guide that was exclusive to the tour office. I have visited many tourist sites all over the world and this was the most pleasant audio guide I have ever encountered.
Alhambra is obviously a must see. The tour through the Alhambra is very organized compared to some other sightseeing spots. I would have preferred to have a map of the Alhambra and not only the audio guide as the spots were not so easily visible. The views from up there are spectular and the history of this place is unimaginable.
When I paid the exorbitant amount due to Spain national day, I was expecting a lot more. Poor signage and too much walking.
Anyone who plans a visit to Granada wants to see the Alhambra and its beautiful islamic architecture. The cover picture of this activity shows it. however, we only realized when we were already inside the complex, that this ticket doesnt include the visit to the Palacios Nazaries, that is exactly what everyone wants to see! you end up paying an overpriced ticket just to see the gardens and the medieval fortress with no chance to buy tickets on the same day for the palaces. also, the original tickets from the official website cost 12 euros and we paid 58 here!
At the last minute we upgraded to a guided tour and Sandra was 100% worth it! She was knowledgeable and fun, making the experience educational and enjoyable.
Tickets too expensive and have to go to play Granada customer center get ticket
For the money I paid for a self guided audio trip, a total of 5 to 6 mins of audio, was somewhat of a surprise
This is a fraudulent, be aware and don’t purchase anything from this company. I paid 3 weeks ago for Alhambra tour with guide, I received email a week before my travel stating they couldn’t secure any tickets and gave the option to get refund. I requested a refund, never received one but I got an email saying they were able to secure 4 tickets ( what I originally purchased). Today oct 9th I went to the meeting point and no one showed up, I reached out to the guide and she said oh meet me there but then she stopped responding and didn’t answer my calls.
We cannot praise Laura of Play Granada enough. She helped us out so much that she made our trip even more special.
Thanks for the great experience!
This 'last minute' ticket worked very smoothly and delivered all it promised. The Alhambra itself was just slightly disappointing - HORDES of other tourists! - but im glad ive seen it for myself. After all, you cant come to Granada and not vidit it
Fernando was so great! Really appreciated his help and the ease of our tickets.
Loved it. Such a magical place to visit. Beautiful Gardens. Such a well organised trip. Highly recommend Nasrid Palaces is included in your trip when you book. We didnt book it for our first trip and was gutted thankfully managed rebook for another day and got a ticket but obviously had to pay extra for last minute booking but it was amazing and so glad we did it.
Great experience with Eva! She was very helpfull. One of the best days.
The title makes this seem like a all inclusive Alhambra ticket, especially that it’s that expensive, turns out it doesn’t include the Nasrid palaces although the images show little the palaces on the main page, basically the reason we were in Granada and ended up paying 70€, 600% for a 12€ ticket… I guess they artificially bump up the price to misuse people’s desperation.
Map of place to pick up tickets needs to be enlarged and more clear with all street names shown
We had planned to tour the Alhambra for two months and bought the tickets much in advance. It was the only reason we were going to Granada from the US. When we arrived at Granada, the day we arrived TripAdvisor sent us an email saying the tour operator canceled the tour. No explanation. People we’ve talked with say many times Viator oversells tours. This is outrage. Viator then on the website offered an alternative Alhambra tour for 5 (FIVE) yes 5 times the original price. We are saddened and disappointed and disgusted .
We assumed we would be picking up the tickets from near the entrance of the Alhambra, so we got a taxi, but it's actually in the town and is about a 30-40 walk uphill then (they will tell you it's 15 minutes, but the route is unclear, and not well signposted. We saw many other tourists also looking lost and trying to find the correct route on their phone maps) The audio guide is a QR code you scan and listen to on your phone rather than an audio headset you borrow, and the route is not clear, so there's no real flow to how you follow it round. To be fair, all of this is loosely explained when you buy the tickets, but I thought it was worth being explicit in this review so other people don't feel disappointed. Having said all that, Alhambra is beautiful and worth the visit. But don't expect this audio guide to be much use - do all your own research and plan your route, we missed a lot and I felt I was staring at my phone for much of it.
Great experience, loved the tour, Fernando was very we helpful
An impressive place to visit. There could be more signs as you visit the various locations.
All good experience attending the Alhambra with elderly people wh oh was all satusfactory
Excellent value, really fantastic fun for our party of four all 60+, a brilliant way to get to know the local sights and the guide LT was a pleasure to be with.
Happy to get two alhambra tickets at short notice and Ismael was a plessant and knowledgeable guide
I would highly recommend this place. The customer service we got from Fabulous Fabiana was top class. She was so helpful in getting the tickets we needed and helped us with all the information we required as tourists. She was kind and patient at all times. This is the best place to get tickets from for tourist attractions in Granada.
First of all we had to pick up our tickets at Play Granada (bottom of the hill) and arrange are own transport to top. We paid $40.50 US per person, when we got to the entrance we found out the actual cost was 12.73 euros (around US 14.63). I am sorry, but this is a complete ripoff. Don’t listen to the skip the line BS, take the bus up and pay for your own entry.
We booked entry tickets to the Alhambra through Viator priced at £30 per person, stated to include admission plus audio guide — when official direct entry is only €12.99. We expected a proper experience for the premium price, but it was extremely disappointing. The so‑called “audio guide” worked via a QR code on our phones — every single time we took a photo, we were logged out completely and had to rescan, re‑enter the password and start all over again from the beginning. After struggling through this three times, our whole group of ten gave up entirely — it was unusable. Worse still — we found out this ticket did NOT actually include entry to the Alhambra Palace, which is the main reason anyone visits the Alhambra! We were also informed one of the palaces was closed with no advance notice or mention at time of booking. It felt misleading and overpriced — paying far more than official cost for something that delivered far less than promised. We have used Viator before and trusted them, but this was a letdown and we would not recommend this tour operator /ticket option at all.
Fantastic experience and super helpful. I had to check the pick up and they were super helpful . Hugely recommended
Stupidly overpriced, they charged 4 times the price of the ticket, and it didn’t even include the full entrance
Great experience, quick to pick up the phone, and flexible when it came to options with my parents were elderly.
