Itinerary
We meet at Hostel Upperlink for a short introduction of our food culture, followed by a taste of the best fries in town at Frituur Tartaar. Once our guide tells you the story of the fries, you'll never call them French fries again!
Next stop is Ooost, the regional center for local products, to tell you about the famous Ganda ham and give you a taste of a delicious local candy that we try to keep hidden from the rest of the world.
Next on the menu is a chocolate treat, handmade in Gent. Our guide will tell you the story of chocolate and offer you a praline in the shape of Jan van Eyck's holy lamb.
Next on the menu are waffles, a popular treat since medieval times. We'll tell you the origins of the food and offer you a taste.
We end the tour with a ticket for a free glass of the famous local Gruut beer, which you can enjoy straight after the tour when the brewery opens in the afternoon.

It was a great tour, we really enjoyed it! Our touguide Hans told such a nice stories about Gent history and gastronomics. And the tasting was great, Belgium Fries, chocolate, waffles, chees, mutsaard, beer we loved it and would recommend everybody!
Hans was awesome! He was knowledgeable and funny! His historical knowledge was key to understanding the story behind everything we saw and tasted. I would highly recommend this tour.
This was a very nice walking tour in Gent. We got little tastes of fries, chocolate, beer and cheese.
Absolutely wonderful and informative! Our guide (Kashia?) was friendly, funny, and really enjoys her job. The tastings were really good. Great value for the suggested gratuity of 10 Euro.
Fantastic tour! Must-do in Ghent. Hopefully you get Sophia, who was very knowledgeable and fun and interesting as a guide!
Excellent tour covering some of Belgium's most iconic eats and drinks - frites, chocolate, waffles, beer and more. Our guide, Sophia, was friendly, fun and informative. The registration price is nominal, but the samples provided along the way are arranged and paid by the guide so consider that in tipping. A great way to spend a couple of hours on a lovely afternoon in Ghent.
Hans was very nice, and perfect for this experience. I really enjoyed it! Will recommend it
Hans was an excellent, knowledgeable, kind, and adorable tour guide. We got to learn some local history and taste a ton of free food - fries, mustard, chocolates, cuberdons (a local candy), waffles, and ended with a beer and cheese. Would do again!
Hans has a great way of telling stories. Loved his map under the bridge as a visual aid. A nice range of small bites. And a beer to boot!
Felt a little short and could have been more informative but still enjoyed the tour
It was a great time very interesting tour, great company and our guide Sophie was amazing!
Sophie was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Loved all of the samples.
Highly recommend this tour. Hans our guide was truly amazing. Great story teller. This tour was both a city tour and a tasting tour. Love Ghent and would love to return again!
Marilyn was a great guide telling us history and some great food stops
Hans was a great guide. This tour was the perfect combination of history and food.
Hans our tour guide was excellent. Provided great historical background not just on the food but the city it self. Felt like a historical tour with delicious treats. Belgium potatoes, chocolate, beer, waffles, mustard and more!!! Highly recommend it. Loved that it was free giving you the liberty to tip and knowing it goes directly to your tour guide. Our guide was worth a higher tip!!!!
Discover the city by tasting local specialties and hearing fun facts shared by a volunteer guide who loves his city.
We were very lucky as we had a wonderful guide called Hans. He had so much knowledge to share on thr history of Ghent and was very good company. You are guaranteed a great tour with him!
Great gastronomic tour with Hans today! Great historical information and delicious tastes of Ghent!
Hans was an incredible guide, providing an overview of the history of Ghent alongside the tastings. He also shared stories about his own life in Ghent and additional recommendations on where to go. Highly recommend this option for anyone interested in an alternative way to see the city.
Hans was fantastic! He was a true Ghent local and told us all about the city, how it has changed and evolved, and of course we had some fantastic food with places to go back to in the future! Highly recommend!
Hans was the best guide i had so far. He told us great stories and I loved the tour.
Hans was an incredible tour guide! We learned interesting history, along with several samples of local cuisine. The tour even ended with a beer. Would highly recommend to anyone!
We decided to take this tour on a whim as we walked by the meeting point and saw the group gathering. Our tour guide was Hans and he was excellent. This tour is much more than a simple tasting of foods of Ghent. It provided an overview history and a nice walking tour of the city. The portions were generous weren't simple tastings. Highly recommend
Hans was a friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and felt it was a perfect mix of history and culture. And so much tasty food!
It was so much fun and interesting details what Jerke told us, could have continued the tour couple more hours! Not only gastronomy but also facts and history. It was just embarassing that the other visitors didn’t leave any tip for the guide. Please always take some cash with you!
It was only me and my husband, so the original tour was cancelled. But the guide Hans offered us a private tour for 50 euro. Hans was so nice and friendly! The tour was very interesting and we had A LOT to eat!😅No need for lunch that day!😅Best was the cheese and mustard in the end with 3 kinds of beer!😊
A fantastic introduction to Ghent. Our guide Hans was informative and entertaining, the historical highlights were fascinating and the tasters were generous! We now have a much better idea of this beautiful city and can’t wait to explore further!
A great tour! Our guide Hans was a great guide and overall a wonderful person. I would 10/10 recommend this tour and tour guide.
Jerke was a great guide and we had a very good - and tasty time on this tour. Really enjoyed it and would highly recommend.
Mi general Jerk mon setchu right mon
Don’t miss this tour! Learned about Ghent and tasted some delicious treats! Our guide (Stasha?) was the BEST!
Really interesting and yummy tour! First time doing a tasting tour and really enjoyed it! Sophia did a very good job of leading the tour and explaining about everything we tried!
Yes we did get to taste local foods but I didn’t feel it was organized very well. It was just okay not what I had hoped it would be.
The tour itself was great, Sophia was a wonderful guide. It doesn't seem like booking through the legends website actually registers you for the tour. The last couple we've been on we weren't on the list of people who registered even though we received confirmation emails.
Very interesting tour with possibility to test some Belgian food and sweets while walking around Gent's historical centre. Our guide Sophia told a lot of stories behind of each of it. At the end of tour you will get recommended places to eat or drink a really good Belgian beer.
This tour was 100% worth it for the price! There were only four people on our tour, which might have been why but the portion of fries was so big we couldn’t finish it! Everything else was as expected, two pieces of chocolate, a candy, a quarter of a waffle, a little stew, a cube of meat with mustard, and a small glass of beer. For the price we paid this tour was definitely worth it! Our guide Hans was also very informative, he gave us a few quick points of history about the city as we walked, and also had a very long talk with my friend who was interested in the churches of the city. The tour definitely doesn’t have a history focus but you do get the sparknotes. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a small taste of Belgian cuisine!
It was great a lovely way to try some of the key foodie items without having to commit to a full waffle and to get some history and background to go with the snacks. Really would recommend!
5 out of 5, so informative and fun.
Amazing tour, Sophia was an excellent guide, super engaging. Lots of great food and learned a lot about the Ghent history through food. Would recommend!
Fun and delicious! Also had a pleasant walk around the centre.
Marianne was amazing. Very knowledgable and made the tour fun. Got to try lots of tasty tasters and had lots of recommendations. Very informative
It was excellent! But, I was the only one of the group who paid in upfront. And its not even for te guide. Just for tripadvisors Application. That was not clear to me!
Kasia was super friendly and knowledgeable! First stop was fries with Flemish Stew (they’re also very accommodating with a vegetarian/non pork version). Would call the portion more than a tasting but less than a meal. Next were the chocolate dragons, we had the option of either milk chocolate with hazelnut filling or dark chocolate with raspberry filling (we liked the hazelnut more than the raspberry). After that was the underrated gent mustard. It was spicy but in a wasabi way vs pepper. Last food stop was a small shop that gave us a chunk of liege waffles and a gent nose candy. Kasia left us at a local bar with a tasting of three different kinds of beer; raspberry, brown, and blonde. It is a free tour but they work on commission and a recommended “tip” is 10€. The cobblestone streets and steps into shops are not very handicap friendly. But, there was someone on the tour in a wheelchair and they made it to all the stops. Kasia was as accommodating as she could be. Overall we would recommend. It was a very nice introduction to Ghent!
Hans is a great guide!! We had so much fun!
It was amazing! Thank you Hans for sharing the history of Ghent ,& the Food and Drinks were great!
