Absolutely LOVED it! Learned so much about chocolate and really enjoyed trying the different parts of the Cacao.
This experience was amazing! Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and friendly. It was great to see how much effort goes into making a chocolate bar.
We made a bar of chocolate from scratch by hand! A fabulous experience. We learned the history of chocolate, tried original drinking chocolate, made chocolate tea, flavoured our own drinking chocolate and tasted an exquisite selection of chocolates. A very original, personal and professional experience.
Dorien and Liu are two enthusiastic chocolate lovers who have turned their passion into a special business. We were warmly welcomed by Liu who brought the history of chocolate to life in a lively and interactive way. You get to get to work yourself and experience what it's like to make chocolate from scratch – which makes you appreciate the pure taste of the "black gold" even more. It is surprising to discover what is possible with just a few cocoa beans. I received this workshop as a gift from my son; It was a unique experience and provides beautiful memories.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience, booked for my partner's birthday weekend. Liu was very friendly, funny, informative, and accommodating throughout, striking a great balance befitting of the occasion. We would certainly recommend this to anyone interested and wish to personally thank Liu for his time and passion.
We attended the history of chocolate making workshop recently with Xiao and had such a wonderful time. It was the absolute highlight of our trip! The surroundings are so comfortable and serene, so we relaxed and learned a lot. The process of chocolate making is actually very mindful and we felt truly zen when we emerged. The chocolate itself is delicious and of course such high quality! I highly recommend this experience as very good value for money!
Nice and small scale workshop, when we joined there was just one other couple. Very enthousiaste host with a lot of passion for the chocolate history. We enjoyed or +- 2hour workshop very much and are still enjoying the last pieces of our self-made chocolate bar.
In our limited time in Ghent we decided to do the history workshop and we're very very glad we did! It was an amazing experience where you not only learn about the history of chocolate and it's many uses, but get hands on experience on how those variations of chocolate were made. If you are looking for an informative and hands-on experience, there is very little (if anything at all) that can beat the chocolate history workshop!
This was so fun and unique! I loved learning about the history of chocolate and getting to make our own versions of 16th and 17th century chocolate items, along with trying the modern day pralines…so cool, interactive, and truly felt accomplished at the end!
This experience was so much fun! We learned about the 5000 year history of chocolate and Leo walked us through making our own chocolate the medieval way. It turned out pretty well! Then we tasted some of the chocolates their associates make. We really enjoyed it and would highly recommend.
Amazing morning. We were warmly welcomed and were the only ones booked for the experience. We made chocolate à la 17th century and earned a lot about the history of cacao and its introduction to Europe. We tried hot cacao, cacao tea and made our own hot chocolate to drink as well as sampling some of the delicious chocolates from the store. Highly recommend. Thank you.
The chocolate workshop was interesting and informative. Liu did a great job of explaining the history and process of making chocolate. My wife and our two young teens were interested the entire time, as was I. We would recommend for anyone visiting Ghent.
This workshop stands out from others as you can learn to make chocolate from scratch (i.e. cocao beans). Leo was friendly and welcoming, he explained every steps of the chocolate making process and the history of chocolate. We also tasted the cocao fruit juice, cocao tea and the first drinking chocolate as we learned through the timeline of its development. Highly recommended!!
The workshop was a very interesting and fun experience! The host was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Having visited chocolate (history) museums in the past, we still learned a lot during this workshop that we didn't know before. It was great fun to make our own chocolate drinks and chocolate bars from scratch starting with cocoa beans and the different chocolates whe got to taste where delicious. A group that booked the same workshop had cancelled so we were lucky to have a private workshop just for the two of us and were seated in a very nice spot right by the window.
I’ve been to a number of chocolate history museums and this workshop beats them all hands down. I learnt so much more about crafting chocolate and how it came about in this workshop it was really incredible, tastings were delicious and we all had lots of fun too. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn the history of chocolate beyond just watching someone make it or looking at it through a glass window.
My husband and I booked an 11am chocolate workshop. We lucked out and had it private. The shop is so cute and we were seated right by the window. It was beautifully organized. During the class, we learned about the history of chocolate, made chocolate tea, hot chocolate, and a chocolate bar. We also received chocolates made professionally by their chocolatier. It was such a fun, immersive experience and we would highly recommend it to anyone! It's in our top 3 activities of our entire trip!
Our guide/instructor was very knowledgeable about the history chocolates. He was very funny while informative.
Wow! not what we expected at all.So much chocolate , so many different drinks , so much fun !Pity we dont have enough time otherwise we would try all other experiences from them.
This was such a fun activity! My boyfriend booked this as a surprise for me and both of us absolutely loved it! It was so cool to make our own chocolate bar and try all these different drinks. The host was also really kind and passionate about chocolate. We have learned A LOT! Thank you so much for the great time.
This was fabulous a must do if you want to experience a unique chocolate journey. From making chocolate drinks from 16th century recipes to making our own chocolate bar I learnt so much whilst having a great time. I am so glad we chose this.
10/10 recommend if you like chocolate and want to learn more about the history behind the cocoa bean! This was not only fun, but insightful. I genuinely learned a lot! The process of making your own bar of chocolate was really cool as well as making a hot chocolate recipe from the 1600s. I was only in Ghent for a day and as able to fit this in! Highly recommend!
Great experience! Super fun to make our own chocolate! Definitely a well rounded activity, I would recommend to anyone. Personal favourite: hot chocolate with spices
This was amazing and well worth the money. Very educational yet fun, didn’t expect to try as many drinks and chocolates as we did but there were loads!! making your own chocolate bar , own hot chocolate , then trying another 4 or so drinks on top of that , while also having lots of chocolate drops and bon bons , would definitely recommend
Unique activity with lots of knowledge, creativity and passion from the owner, must do ! The chocolates are really good looking and delicious, also kind of original.
I was a bit doubting beforehand to book this activity as my friend and I are not really into history. However, this is the first time I really enjoyed learning about history. Super interactive and interesting! You basically get to experience 5000 years of history in a bit more than 1 hour. From old chocolate drinks to modern day Belgian chocolate. We even got to try a historical recipe, really fascinating. This is definitely NOT BORING history. The owner is heartwarming and adorable, you can simply tell this is her passion. Next time I am in Ghent, I will visit the shop again to try some other activities.
We booked this activity because we wanted to learn more about Belgian chocolate. We had already visited a chocolate museum and didn’t feel like another one. We sort of regret not doing this tasting first, before visiting the museum. The chocolate museum was great, definitely a fun experience, but I was really missing some context. After leaving I still didn’t get why Belgium became a chocolate country. During this workshop we got to understand the evolution of chocolate. I thought it was fascinating to see that people used to only drink chocolate and only recently in history they started eating it. I would personally recommend doing both a museum and this workshop, but if you don’t have much time and you really want to understand what Belgian chocolate is about, just do the workshop.
Informative, fun and interactive way of learning and tasting the history of chocolate. Dorien has a natural, personable style and her passion for the topic really shone through. The chocolate was awesome too! Our favourites are the Jaguar passion fruit, dolphin praline and Ecuadorean buttons. Sarah Rob and Evie
Unique activity with lots of knowledge, creativity and passion from the owner, must do ! It is Incredible to see how chocolate changed in the last hundreds of years + we loved that we could buy the things we tasted for our friends.
We actually wanted to visit the chocolate nation in Antwerp, but we didn’t manage to go there due to some car rental issues. So, we booked this activity instead (kind of last-minute) as there is no chocolate museum in Ghent. It was the best choice we could have made! This workshop is developed and given by the owner of the chocolate shop Dorian?, who is also a historian.. You can really tell by the incredible amount of know-how and passion! During the workshop we tried some historical drinks, and we could even make our own chocolate, which I didn’t succeed at but still thought was super cool! We had a really nice time and I personally left with a new appreciation of chocolate. I also loved the fact that this is in a small local business, I am sure the museum would have been fun as well, but this is more authentic and personal.
I am from Switzerland, we have a big chocolate culture in our country. During my trip in Belgium, I visited a lot of shops to find out which country has the better chocolate. The biggest surprise was doing this history workshop at Chocolade Ambassade. A really fun and engaging activity. I still don't know who makes the better chocolate but you guys are better at offering chocolate experiences ,but without us no milk chocolate, which I learned now, thanks to you.
My wife and I had the honour to be one of the first to experience the history chocolate workshop at Chocolade Ambassade. It became one of the best memories from our holiday in Belgium. Compared to the chocolate making class we tried before, this experience is much more educational and diverse & definitely more personal! We learned how cacao/chocolate evolved during the last 5000 years while recreating interesting recipes and grinding cacao into chocolate. The service here is super customer friendly. We appreciate the effort to make us feel so welcome and comfortable .10/10!
Received a very friendly welcome, an enthusiastic and interesting presentation that appealed to almost all the senses. In short: learned a lot about chocolate and the bean-to-bar method itself! Time flew by! You can also ask extra questions after the workshop...
My boyfriend gave me the workshop as a gift for my birthday and what a nice surprise! We had a 2h workshop in small group (we were 5 in total) by Liu. He explained the history of chocolate, we made our chocolate bar from cocoa beans, hot chocolate according to a recipe of the 17th century... Liu was really caring, he did everything to make us feel comfortable, often made little jokes... and answered all our questions! We really had a great time and I recommend this workshop 100%! Really an experience to test:)
A fun and informative knowledge with a nice alternation between history, facts and getting started. The two hours flew by! Absolutely recommended partly by the friendly host.
Very nice experience!!! Definitely recommended. It's fun and small-scale setup. You get a piece of chocolate history and taste the original flavors.
Had a very nice morning. We sat at the front of the window so had a nice view and enough views. The host explained everything clearly and we enjoyed the delicious chocolate. Definitely recommended!
A very varied, educational workshop with comprehensive insight into the history of chocolate. My sister and I were able to get to know brand new flavors of the cocoa bean, combined with a lot of fun, a homemade chocolate bar and a very attentive, humorous workshop leader. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Fun and interactive workshop where you will not only learn about the history of Ghent and chocolate, but also make your own pralines. The guide was enthusiastic and the atmosphere was top notch. Highly recommended if you want to do something original in Ghent!
Nice an educationally used time in rainy Ghent. Got a lot of new information about cocoa and chocolate making. And tasted it 😊
We had a great afternoon. Besides learning about chocolate, we got to taste many different things and made chocolate ourselves. Nice and warmly received. We thought this was definitely worth our money.
