Savannah is a beautiful city.
Very informative, easy walking experience. Beautiful buildings and scenery. Great tour guide. A little rough for use of an electric scooter because of the uneven sidewalks and inconsistant management of cross walks.
Nice relaxing walk through the historic parts of Savannah. Our guide was fun adding a little humor to the history!
The guide was fabulous! He made the tour excellent !
For our tour, we found easy street parking a block away from the meeting point outside a café with restrooms. Our guide, born and raised in Savannah, was engaging and had an iPad to show us historic key figures and documents, while giving his perspective on events and culture. You may want to read or watch “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and/or “Forrest Gump” since both play a role in Savannah’s renaissance. We walked through several beautiful squares draped in Spanish moss and had a restroom break at Books on Bay.
Julia was the perfect blend entertaining and knowledgeable. The highlight of my trip was this walking tour. It rained the entire time but it didn't damper it one bit.
By far the best historical tour we took in Savannah. David our guide is a local and was a fabulous tour guide. Brought the true stories and historical information of Savannah alive. Don’t miss the opportunity to take this tour.
Highly recommend! Our tour guide Julianna was amazing . So knowledgeable and an amazing storyteller.
Perfect blend of knowledge and humor. David, our guide, was very well versed in Savannah history. Highly recommend!
Tour Guide was David, extremely knowledgeable and informative went in-depth and told the history of the historic district in a factual yet interesting way. He has that "Southarnnn Flaar". Highly recommended , about a 2 hours.
Lots of standing with a couple of opportunities to sit for a minute. It was a great tour, good stories.
David was an excellent tour guide! Very knowledgeable and was able to share so much information with us in the two hours we had! We scheduled this tour as the first activity on our first full day and it gave us a great overview of Savannah as we explored the rest of the weekend.
David was an incredible guide! Born and raised in Savannah, his deep knowledge of the city and its history was evident throughout the tour. He is brilliant with historical facts, engaging, and you can truly feel his passion for Savannah in the way he shares its stories. His storytelling brought the city’s history to life and made the tour both fascinating and memorable. We would highly recommend David and this tour company to anyone wanting to truly experience Savannah’s history.
Great tour and the guide was awesome with his local knowledge of the city, history and local residents.
This tour is highly recommended. Our guide took us through the most important parts of Savannah's history and truly brought the past to life. It was time well spent, especially since we only had one full day in the city. Thank you!
Our guide, Julianna, expressed her deep love and knowledge of the history of Savannah during the tour. She was quite thorough. She was very personable. Use of the audio devices were a great idea for an outdoor tour like this. The tour never felt rushed, despite the fact that we were battling mid-90 degree temperatures on a July morning!
Fantastic guide. He was interesting, knowledgeable and kind. Take this tour!
I’ve taken several ghost tours on previous visits to Savannah. Some were excellent; others were cheesy and a waste of money. When planning a recent trip for 13 lifelong friends, I knew a ghost tour was a must—but I also knew I had to find the best one. Thanks to a recommendation from our Airbnb host, I discovered Genteel & Bard. Before booking, I had a wonderful conversation with the owner, TC. He assured me that his tours focus on history and documented facts rather than cheap scares, which was exactly what I was looking for. One member of our group is a self-proclaimed "scaredy-cat" and was hesitant to go, so TC's explanation of the tour's approach completely put my mind at ease. After our conversation, I didn't hesitate to book a private tour. He even told me he would personally be our guide. I was a little disappointed to learn that TC's plans had changed and someone else would be leading our tour. That disappointment disappeared the moment we met Jovy. Jovy was an exceptional guide. Before we even left The Olde Pink House—where TC had graciously arranged for our tour to begin following our group dinner—Jovy already knew everyone's names. As a food tour guide in Nashville myself, I know firsthand what an impressive feat that is with a group of 13. Throughout the evening, Jovy spoke clearly, kept everyone engaged, and frequently checked on the group, again addressing each of us by name. His storytelling was engaging, informative, and perfectly paced, blending Savannah's fascinating history with just the right amount of mystery and darker tales. Everyone enjoyed the tour—and that's saying something when you're traveling with 13 women who all have different interests. Several people said it was their favorite activity of the entire trip. One friend even admitted she was surprised it topped her list because she normally doesn't enjoy ghost tours. We all agreed that the stories were fascinating, but it was Jovy who made the experience truly memorable. Without hesitation, I would highly recommend Genteel & Bard—and especially Jovy—to anyone visiting Savannah who wants to learn the city's rich history while hearing a few intriguing and darker stories along the way. This wasn't just a ghost tour; it was one of the highlights of our trip.
Our tour guide David was exceptional as gave a very detailed overview/ history of Savannah and made it interesting by asking us questions… not to test you knowledge or put you on the spot; but so when you get the answer it sticks in your brain. Very personable and made you feel comfortable from the get go. A must tour with Genteel and Bard when visiting Savannah!
Guide David was 5 stars. A great historian and a nice guy.
Personal attention, small group, detailed historical information, convenient, and well paced. Local guides.
Super happy with our tour. Our guide was born and raised in Savannah, very warm and personable, easy to understand, and gave us a great history of the US and Savannah. Headsets were available but I could hear easily due to our small group.
David was great at merging the history and present of Savannah! Absolutely loved learning things I knew nothing about.
David couldn’t be more prepared. He has a very polite and funny disposition. Very informative and very easy to be with. He made the tour very worth while
Our guide Dave was wonderful. As a life long Savannah resident he brought the history of the town to life with his deep knowledge of the past and personal and family experience. This was a great tour and I highly recommend it.
Great walking tour that was well paced and interesting. Our guide provided information and context to some of the places we knew slightly before but are interested in knowing more now.
Nice walking tour with an 8th generation resident. Bring water and good sneakers. Our tour guide provided a lot of personal perspective
Our tour guide was passionate and so informative about Savannah history. Loved it!! Would love to do another tour with her!
Had an amazing experience with our tour guide Juliana! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the entire tour enjoyable and engaging. Her passion for sharing local history and hidden gems really stood out. She kept everything well organized, answered all our questions, and made sure everyone felt included. Highly recommend for anyone looking to have a fun and informative tour experience!”
We recently did this tour with our young adult kids and their grandparents and everyone really enjoyed it. Julianna was a great tour guide. Her passion for Savannah and history really shone through and drew you into her storytelling. She also gave us some great recommendations for food after the tour, and they were a hit with our entire family as well. Walking pace was not too fast, and you really got to soak up Savannah's atmosphere. This is a must do tour!
Fabulous.historian. Unique perspectives with a perfect amount of walking. Great stories unique to a local Savannah resident mixed with culture and music.
Julianna was very enthusiastic and had a well thought out and executed presentation! We were able to experience her ability to be engaged and provided interesting information and pictures of the history of the enchanting and mysterious Savannah!
Julianna was our wonderful tour guide. She was engaging and full of historical facts. We were mostly older so she set the pace just right. Julianna’s love and enthusiasm for Savannah and its history shined through. We got a terrific overview of Savannah’s early history. I highly recommend especially if you can book with Julianna.
Great! David was fascinating.
Great tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. We did have earphones to hear the tour guide, which was nice. It was a small-ish sized group. The tour didn't cover a lot of ground. We stopped at multiple locations and had a pretty good speech about the area we were in. It was about a 2 hour tour. At the end of the tour, our guide gave us some recommendations.
I recently joined a two-hour Savannah History Walking tour led by TC, who is also the owner, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. TC is a fantastic storyteller—the kind who makes history feel vivid and alive rather than distant and dry. At each stop, he shared engaging stories filled with rich detail and just the right amount of humor to keep everyone interested. One of the highlights was how TC used his iPad to show historical images connected to each location and the people who helped shape the city. Seeing old photos alongside the present-day sites added a whole new layer to the experience and made it much easier to visualize how things have changed over time. TC paced the tour perfectly, mixing famous landmarks with hidden gems without feeling rushed. He encouraged questions, which made it personal and engaging. After two hours, I left with a deeper appreciation for the city and its history. If you want an informative and memorable experience, this tour with TC & Genteel and Bard are a great choice!
The tour with a Savannah native was interesting, educational, and entertaining. David did a great job pointing out significant spots and sharing relevant stories. Glad it didn't get cancelled due to rain. Not a bad way to spend 2.5 hours in the historic district.
David our tour guide, as a native Savannah’ian, was very knowledgeable and entertaining with accent, history, stories, and humor. While two hours doesn’t come close to scratching Savannah’s historical surface, we were given a wide expanse of history of Savannah’s colonization to civil and revolutionary war to slavery history to folklore to art and including its inherent celebrity ventures. Totally recommend their verbose tour about Savannah from its native historians and storytellers.
The tour with TC was amazing! We walked all through the historic district and he was a fountain of information without being dry or pedantic. Loved this tour as well as the ghost tour and would recommend 100%!
Excellent walking tour and wonderful history by the best guide ever Julianna. You will love her and the tour.
We found this your to be fantastic. TC is amazing! He is obviously passionate about living in Savannah and giving people an accurate, big-picture history including the mindset of the times and the consequences of the actions taken by key players. He is patient and knowledgeable and he answered all of the questions from our group of a dozen or so. This tour included a pair of earbuds and a small transmitter that clips on or rests in your pocket, so we heard each word without having to be right next to the guide and/or struggle to keep up. He shows iPad photos which are extremely helpful as they include faces, names, places, and maps. This was an invaluable tool used to illustrate important points and concepts that shaped not only Savannah and its layout but events in its rich history. You will not be bored, you will be entertained, and you will have a greater understanding of the city and its contributions now and in the past. Highly recommend!
We enjoyed our walking tour soooo much! David was an excellent guide!!
Julianna was a very personable and informative tour guide. Her love of Savannah was obvious. She provided so many facts along with a bit of humor. The two hours flew by. Use of the ear phones was great in a very busy city environment. I would highly recommend her tour,
A true walk through history! We were lucky to have TC himself take us on our tour. His love of the history of Savannah and his gift of storytelling made for an incredible walking tour. Don’t miss out on this! He brings history to life for sure!
Our guide David was wonderful. As a Savannah local, he is well-versed in Savannah's byways, history and culture. He is also a gifted storyteller, and we learned so much from him as we walked the city. We were engrossed in his commentary during the two-hour tour. Our only regret is we wished for more time, so we could learn more about the city's history - e.g. it's ethnic populations, its siege during the Civil War, and its various religions.
Informative historical tour. Julianna was an entertaining and educated guide. Felt like we got our money’s worth. And happy to support a small, locally owned business
Wonderful tour. She did a great job bringing the history of Savannah to life.
Had a great tour with David. Learned a lot of Savannah history for a native of Savannah and he told great personal stories. Also ,iced having his two children along for the tour.
Savannah is the perfect city for a shady historical walking tour, and Julianna was the PERFECT guide! Disneyesque in her storytelling, polished, entertaining
