Reviews
Our tour guide Brad was knowledgeable and funny. We really enjoyed it. We learned a lot about the book and its background, even though we’d all just read the book in our book club.
Whether you saw the movie or you read the book this tour gives you exact locations and William was VERY informative. I would highly suggest this tour. But bring plenty of water if you’re touring in the summer
Brad was well versed and informative. However, his comments regarding northerners were more than off putting.
Our tour guide was excellent and gave a ton of information. He definitely knew the story and shared a lot of information that we were unaware of. I appreciate the fact that he let us know the Mercer Williams home can possibly be going residential, so my friend and I went on and toured the home while it’s still available. We enjoyed all of our tour and realized we chose the best one! Thank you
We had a wonderful time on our tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and they even brought magazine clippings from the events surrounding the movie. If you get a chance to go don't miss out!
We were on a short time scheduled vacation from Illinois. They called the evening before to tell us the tour guide could not make it and they rescheduled the tour for the next day. That day coincided with our schedule so I informed the we could not make that as we would be leaving that evening and asked for my $90 back. I have yet to receive my refund!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Guide was a great storyteller which added to the experience. Stopped halfway for a rest stop and to purchase water.
It was disappointing that this tour did not go into the Mercer-Williams house. It would be nice to know ahead of time. I know it’s going to be a private residence again soon, but did not know that it wouldn’t include the house at the time of booking. It also didn’t include the club where Lady Chablis performed. For the few things we saw, I could have probably done this tour on my own with a little bit of research.
We we're unable to join the tour, however a full refund was processed. So we're happy about that and will attend the tour on our next visit.
It was quite interesting hearing the "behind the scenes" details and nuances of the writer, characters portrayed, the people who came to Savannah to bring the story alive, as well as the actors that played them.
Bill had such a vast knowledge of the book and the movie, it was really a great afternoon spent with him!
This was a very informative & interesting tour! Brad did a great job and was very knowledgeable about the book and movie which was beneficial to us since we were big fans. Lovely walk around Savannah's beautiful gardens and quaint streets admiring the architecture.
Got a text from Brad who says he’s the owner. Guide has Covid. I couldn’t go a different day, so Brad says a refund will be processed. It’s been over 2 weeks and no refund. And now he’s not responding to my texts. Sad that someone in the service industry would need $30 so bad that they’d steal. Obviously I can’t tell you what this tour is like. But I wouldn’t give my money knowingly to someone this dishonest and who’s such a poor businessman.
Unfortunately, our guide got covid and we were unable to go on the tour. They offered us a different time but we already had other events scheduled. I hope the guide gets better soon.
Our guide was amazing and well informed. He was friendly and chatted with us as we made stops. If we had a question he answered it and gave extra information.
My husband and I enjoyed how informative our guide Brad was. Learned so much about Savannah and the history of many prominent residents. He also had great photographs with very interesting storylines of the characters in the movie. Worth every penny. One of our favorite tours!
It was a wonderful experience coming all the way to Chennai to the resort staff were super friendly and so good they were most helpful and caring they assisted me everywhere the food was awesome 😎I just love the view and beach side it was a wonderful time with my family 😊
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable! You have to have read the book to understand the tour. Our tour guide seemed to have a personal relationship with the characters in the book which made it so much more interesting.
Fabulous tour full of behind the scenes tidbits and history. Best enjoyed if you have already either read the book or seen the movie. Tour is all walking and you stop at several “landmarks” from the book and movie where “insider” info is shared, which also gives more detailed context to the story and what was happening not only in the original story but also in the making of the movie. If you are a fan of this story, this is a “must do” tour.
We love the movie and we were very excited to take the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. We learned a lot of fun facts about the real story and the movie.
We enjoyed walking through parks, experiencing scenery/architecture depicted in the book. We especially liked interacting with our guide as he had a great way of bringing us into dialogue, asking questions and reminding us if we forgot details. He was great. I apologize to have forgotten his name.
Tour time was changed and I wasn’t informed of this. I am waiting for my refund. For some reason Viator has the wrong contact information for me. We were disappointed
Brad, our tour guide, was fascinating, walking us through various parts of the movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. He kept the tour so informative and answered all of our questions. We walked through parts of Savannah that we did not know existed, through some Squares and parts of the Historic District. This is the best tour in Savannah.
Wow! So much information!! Fantastic tour...wear comfortable shoes! Our tour guide was a generational local who had a true understanding of the characters and the crime. He was fantastic!!!
It was fantastic it was so interesting because the guide knew some of these people. He could tell us things no regular tour guide could. Growing up in Savannah gave him an insight into how these people really lived.
Our Narrator was AMAZING! We never read the book or watched the movie, well my mom read the first 40 pages..lol! But the information we learned about Savannah and the movie was absolutely intriguing! Would do this tour again! But this time we are going you read the book! Our narrator made the tour so interesting and absolutely entertaining! Highlight to out whole trip!
The information describing this tour never mentioned that it would be wise to have either read the book or seen the movie. Having not done either I did not really know what was going on in the characters that the guide mentioned. The weather turns bad and he’s got stormy and the tour had to be and early
We were the only 2 on the tour. Guide was great. Very knowledgeable and personable. Gave us good tips about other things to see. He made the miles fun
Enjoyed seeing the actual places mentioned in the book. Our guide helped bring the story/movie alive for us. Fascinating.
Brad was knowledgeable and gave us lots of good information! We only had 8 people in our group + 1 dog. The weather was perfect too. He gave us information about the book and movie with a fair bit of Savannah history thrown in plus even a restaurant recommendation too!
I have no idea about this tour as the tour guide was ill so the tour was cancelled. Cannot elaborate any more on a tour that I did not participate in.
If you have read the book or seen the movie, this is a fantastic tour. Brad was so knowledgeable about all things “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and gave me insights that only a local would know! Even though it was a rainy and chilly afternoon, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the tour. I highly recommend this to anyone who is visiting Savannah.
We did not get to go as the tour was canceled on the day we were to go. It was rescheduled for the next day but we were leaving to go back home.
His Brad was excellent!! His knowledge was infinite. In his Passion for history of Savannah is very evident. We really enjoyed walking with him. And we'll seek him out again when we come back. Thank you, Merry Christmas
Eight of my book club members took this tour, and we enjoyed it very much. Brad was our guide and owner of The Savannah Walks tour company. He lived in Savannah as a child and has lots of inside stories about the book, the movie, and the characters. He went over and beyond, extending the tour time, customizing the walk so we could end at the Mercer House where we had tour reservations, even helping us install and use a parking app so we could add some parking time. Very pleasant and knowledgeable person. Price was affordable and well worth it!
Brad. He was colourful, informative, patient and very flexible with his time. He gave useful and interesting background before explaining what it was we were looking with. And he was funny.
Read or watch the movie before going on tour. Brad was great. Wear sneakers and be ready to get your steps in.
This was such a fun tour! Brad had plenty of photos and artifacts that really helped reinforce that the characters "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" were real people, and it was nice that you could get that connection on this tour better than just seeing the sights yourself. Even if you just want to get familiar with Savannah unique flair, I'd highly recommend this tour as a way to see the colorful folks this great city has to offer.
I really enjoyed this tour from Savannah Walks. The guide was interesting, well informed, even had a notebook of supporting pictures of the actual event. I would recommend it. He was a wellspring of information, and now I regret not having his name. He had shorts that had a fishing theme! I thank him heartily, and I wish I took his Civil War Tour rather than wasting my time with the Haunted Pubs and the Haunted Paranormal tours that were a real drag. Keep this guy!
All of it, the history of the book and movie was great. Not to mention the history of savannah! Thats all folks.
The tour was great, and our guide really kept us interested allnthe way through. We had a great time.
This was our second tour with Savannah Walks and we were not disappointed. I am a fan of the movie and book while my husband has not experienced either. Brad took his time comparing and contrasting both and had a binder full of references to the story. We were able to see places such as the court house, Clary’s and the Mercer Williams house, Despite the light rain he offered to show us where Chablis lives in the movie as well as where the Doctor’s office was filmed for movie. We both highly recommend this tour. Brad has a great amount of information plus personal experiences and stories to share about Patrick the dog. Thank you for helping to make our time in Savannah memorable. -Bartleson’s
I love the book and the movie and was looking forward to this tour. Brad is definitely knowledgeable and Savannah is gorgeous. The weather was great too, so what could possibly go wrong?... There is no doubt as to which side of the political divide in our country Brad stands... I hold the opposing opinion, but chose to ignore his comments and hints. If this is going to ruin your tour, there are other Midnight related tours in Savannah. What annoyed me (and two other guests) was his constant comments about Yankees. Dude, if you're joking and it's an act, you're laying it on pretty thick...
I made an account specifically after a member of my party showed me the owner's hostile reply to their review (titled "Owner had "opinions" and it's more a movie than book tour"). There were 4 of us, and I can vouch that we all came away with the same negative impression. Frankly 2 stars was generous given how you responded. Apparently the owner thought it was appropriate to use private customer contact info they still had to text a member of our group (no introduction, call or email) after seeing the review, seemingly just to passive-aggressively let us know they knew it was from us? I guess, don't trust this business with your contact info, because they clearly won't use it professionally if you get on their bad side. Our guide was Brad, the owner, though in his reply to my groupmate he says "your guide" and "the guide" intentionally making it sound like a separate person was reporting back to him on how terrible we were. He's...literally talking about himself in the 3rd person, to avoid accountability, and give his allegations the credibility of a 2nd imaginary guide. Why even pretend, we have messages, and the other review even says our guide was the owner. C'mon man. His reply proves he hadn't listened when we said "3/4 of us read the book, none of us saw the movie, please make it about the book" (why else would we have paid to go on a BOOK TOUR), and instead claims we didn't know enough to get the book-focused tour we asked for. But it made sense to focus the tour around a movie none of us had even seen?? And not only is it a dramatic exaggeration to say -everything- "was sadly met with a BLM or LGBT criticism", but the comments we did make were in part because of the opinionated speech he himself felt appropriate to give us at the start of the tour. So I mean... he literally started it. I guess it's only ok for the guide to make such remarks? (My groupmate even admits in her review that "we failed to bite our tongue", sadly the owner fails to take any such accountability for their part or instigation). Be better. And please consider reaching out to customers through your business email to resolve complaints, rather than texting them from your personal phone at 7pm. I doubt that falls within the Privacy Policy.
Events in order: 1. The email told us to meet the guide in a particular square, but then he contacted us telling us we were "late"; apparently we were meant to meet in a different square, but were never updated on the change? Instead of him finding us, we had to go to him - luckily we already knew our way around by then. 2. I forget his name, but our guide said he was the owner of the business. We were all from out of state and were wearing masks (due to COVID), whereas he neither had a mask nor offered to wear one, and had a very loose definition of 6-foot distancing. Not surprisingly, I guess, since within the first 5min we received COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY insight into his socio-political opinions regarding the disruption caused by the pandemic, BLM protests (which he referred to as "fires and riots"), Confederate Statues being "right where they belong", liberal over-sensitivity not belonging in Savannah's laid-back and unproblematic utopia, and commenting that issues like racism are more of a problem "where we come from", etc. Yes, we failed to bite our tongue at some of these remarks, but regardless of whether or not he thought we shared his opinions (which none of us did), it was flatly unprofessional, especially in front of strangers who were just there for a freaking book tour. 3. He'd asked which of us read the book and/or saw the movie. One of us didn't read the book, everyone else had, and no one had seen the movie. We specifically asked that the tour be book-focused (which the Savannah Walks website already implies). Although we enjoyed seeing the landmarks, hearing the stories, etc., it was by and large a MOVIE tour, with filming locations, actors, props, etc. given quite a bit of focus that...frankly meant very little to our group when we'd explicitly said we hadn't seen the movie. It wasn't a terrible tour, it was informative and our guide was largely friendly and sociable, but if we could do it over we'd 100% go with one of Savannah's many other Book and Walking tours.
If you loved the book and/or the movie (I loved both and have wanted to visit Savannah ever since), you will love this tour. Due to subject matter, probably most suitable for teens and adults. We learned a ton about Savannah and got an excellent steer to Gallery Espresso after the tour.
Tour has to be rescheduled, but tour guide (Brad) scheduled a special tour just for our party. Fascinating tour from a. Very knowledgeable guide. Very impressed. A must do!!
Excellent info in this 2 hour walk showing all key locations in the book. He took time to fill in some tidbits not in the book or movie. Highly recommend!
This was a great tour, taking a 2 hour stroll at all the key places from the book and movie. My wife called it amazing!
