I wanted to see the main sites of Genova but my trip was last minute and I didn't have anything planned - the content in this guide - including the tour itself and other info and tips - was a perfect grounding for me to navigate the city on my own but be sure I got the most out of understanding what I was seeing and ideas around where to eat, what to do, etc. Awesome, cost effective idea, will definitely use in other cities. You'll have access to the tour the day and after the date you book it - I recommend access it the day before you plan to explore the city, review it against your map to get your head around how you'll navigate (for example, because I left from my hotel I was not following the route in order - it was helpful to go through the content in advance on the hotel wi-fi to get my plan together and have a basic background on everything in mind in advance).

Itinerary
With its imposing Arch towering in the center of the wide space, Piazza della Vittoria–named so to celebrate the end of World War I–is one of the hubs of the city center.
This building is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the power and devotion of the noble Genoese families of the Renaissance. Religious architecture here reflected both the faith and the social status of its patrons.
There are some “historical dates” that are fixed in my mind since I was in school. Perhaps THE most memorable date is that of October 12, 1492 when Christopher Columbus, the Genoese explorer who first sailed from Europe to the Americas ! We are going to walk close to his place! Ticket cost: 3€
The imposing Porta Soprana! Between 1155 and 1158 the Genoese participated en masse in the construction of the walls to defend themselves from attacks by Frederick Barbarossa’s army.
We have arrived at the nerve center of Genoa, the hub of city life. De Ferrari Square is the city’s main square, a meeting point and venue for major city events.
It is impossible not to be captivated by the majesty of its black-and-white striped facade, the bell tower towering over the historic center, and the intricate details that make the building a true architectural masterpiece. This is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, Genoa’s main church.
Piazza San Matteo is a well-preserved example of an early medieval aristocratic settlement. With its 14th-century church of the same name and surrounded by palaces with characteristic black and white bands, it represented the power center of the Doria family, a tangible sign of their influence in medieval Genoa.
Its construction took about 40 years and began thanks to what can be called Europe’s first urban allotment plan, starring one of the richest families in the city, the Grimaldis, who bought the entire area and transformed it into one of the most beautiful and sumptuous areas in Europe.
Genoa is characterized by narrow streets, and getting a view of the city from above is never easy. That is why this Belvedere will leave you speechless!
Located abutting the inner coves of the Porto Vecchio, the church of San Siro has played a key role in Genoa’s religious life for as many as 17 centuries.
The facade is certainly impressive but in my opinion it is the interior that is jaw-dropping: a must-see when you come to Genova!
Just think: it has been about 2500 years that this port has been used by sailors! How many people, how many stories have passed through here! We have the amazing Aquarium, the Biosphere, An elevator that will take you up to 40 meters high and so much more to discover!

Great fun tool to self walk around Genoa Easy to download and it covers all the main sites! Thank you :)
This is a self guided walking tour. Once I figured out how to switch from the audio to the walking directions and photos it was smooth sailing. It takes a lot of battery power- make sure you have your phone charged up or have a charger with you. Informative and a nice way to walk through Florence on our own.
Fun tour. Great city to visit.
excellent self guided tour and recording for each location awesome
Really easy to follow guide that we could do at our own pace, and detour as we wanted to. Informative without being an overload, and took us to all the key spots we could think of.
Great way to explore Genoa at your own pace and without going into everything too much . Just right!
Good idea for a tour and lovely to go at your own pace. We found the navigation was slightly centred on a car route rather than walking taking you from one site to another site with nothing in between and we passed some lovely spots. Once you arrived at the allocated spot the description and details were very good. Not sure I would recommend this tour bit It was a good for the price.
Exelent way to get information about major attractions in Genova, everything in your own pace
A good, concise, self-guided walk with easy to follow instructions and Google maps. Trivia information is interesting. The walk can be completed in 3-4 hrs.
Great concept and great tour. We couldn't have seen so many amazing sites in one day on our stop on the cruise without the audio tour. Navigation was very easy and the detail about the different sites was very informative.
I was surprised with how easy and complete it was to get to know Genoa with this Tour Audio Guide, it is definitely the best option. Getting off the boat we took a transport to the train station which is where the beginning of the tour marked us and from there we walked everything at our own pace, my family and I agreed that it was better than having a guide, since we were doing it at our own pace, please do it from other cities, I loved it
The tour was functional and easy to use. We walked more than twice the kilometers shown in the guide, and there were major hills, steep grades, and steps that went up forever so make sure you're in good physical shape. We saw a LOT of churches and cathedrals, but also many beautiful streets and ornate buildings. I highly recommend the tour for anyone fit enough for a long walk. The price is beyond fair for the value.
Once I figured out how to download the tour, it was good. I liked the fact that it was self paced with the Google map directions to the next location. The fact given at each stop were very interesting.
Great guide! Concise and full of memorable tidbits about each site! I learned a lot about Genoa without having to listen to the author drone on and on. He did a great job giving the info and keeping it entertaining!
Great guide, includes the basics plus some fun facts. I learned quite a bit about Genoa in a day trip from Milan thanks to the self paced guide. Love that it didn’t drone on and on, but also gave you things that you will remember about each site! I recommend purchasing!
As always, you learn far more from a tour guide than from just wandering the streets and it was great to be able to do it at your own pace. That was particularly helpful in a hilly city on a hot day. It meant I could stop regularly for a much needed rest. For me, though, I missed the passion that you get from listening to someone in person and also sharing the experience with other travellers.
This is a good option when you aren't looking to be on someone else's schedule. The tour was easy to download, easy to follow.
It was very nice seeing all the major places laid out and the little tour worked great once you get the hang of it. I definitely advise looking at the preview. However, I walked up to the Belvedere and in walking to the next stop the street was permanentlyclosed off, so I had to walk back the same way. I walked up! That threw me very much off the path.
We arrived in the afternoon and didn’t know what to do first. This was a great way to walk around the city with some informative notes.
The tour was very informative and it was easy to find our way. It was a great introduction to the city and we saw so much more than we would have done walking around on our own.
A great intro to genoa! Saw all the essentials. Links to the appropriate spots on google maps was spot on. Thanks
Self guided Genoa.. DYI .. for value .. Allows you to set your own pace..Points out amazing history, with sufficient information to get a great grasp on origins and transformation to Genoa today
This easy to use guide lays out a walking route that is perfect for spending the day exploring the highlights of the city of Genoa at your own pace. I enjoyed stopping to look at whatever I found interesting along the way with no pressure to keep on schedule with a group tour. (I wish I had used on my first day to get oriented). I do recommend taking a bus to the start of the tour (not the metro as it was unclear on a map how to get from the metro station to the train station being unfamiliar with the area) as my initial experience with this was attempting to start at the end near where I was staying and trying to work backwards. Working the guide this way was awkward compared to walking the route and using the guide from its beginning in my experience. Great value for the price. The food suggestions echoed other recommendations to avoid the touristy areas for better quality and value. Will try the specific suggestions the next few days but based on their reviews, they sound like excellent choices in a city full of restaurants.
Really enjoyable tour, easy to follow, interesting, informative, engaging, suitable for all ages. It’s a very useful introduction for our first day in Genoa so we can make best use of our visit, just make sure you have your phone fully charged.
Excellent tour. It wasn’t too long nor the listening parts too lengthy. This was nice cause we only had about 4 hours. Easy to access.
I really enjoyed the historical town of Genoa, and also the old port. I can definitely recommend this tour. Also food lovers, like me, will have a great time while doing this tour.
A great little tour, so many highlights of Genoa and really appreciated the food recommendations! Only thing I would point out is be careful using the lift to get to number 9 Belvedere Castelletto. If you are a tourist, there are sometimes ATM attendants at the top who are very forceful and aggressive in trying to fine you €42 for not buying a ticket, they won’t even let you go back down to buy one, you are literally just stuck there until you pay. If this happens to you, tell them you cannot pay as do not have card/cash on you, and do not give them your passport. Leave your name and a fake address and they will give you a fine receipt, they let us go after this and we didn’t have to pay anything. I’m guessing they might send a fine to this address but obviously we won’t know. Terrible that they are scamming people like this! If it’s so serious then they should have attendants downstairs making sure people buy the tickets. Didn’t dampen the tour though, we still had a great time! Just wanted to point this out to other tourists.
This was disappointing. There is zero value in this audio “tour”. It is marketed as a walking tour, but it is an AI narration of information intended to be read. I would have liked to hear callouts to pay attention to specific things at each site. Instead, the history of a place is usually the only thing rad aloud. That is something I could listen to without being there. If I’m looking up at a cathedral - tell me about what I’m seeing. Also, because this is just AI narration of a book, headings are read aloud which is totally unnecessary and distracting. Also, the AI narration mispronounces words that an actual human would say correctly for the context. This was all so useless I stopped listening after the 3rd point of interest.
We are only in Genoa for a couple of days and used Matteo's tour to see many of the main sights. We enjoyed the detailed audio and text commentary, maps and images. It's a fairly strenuous walk (or it was in August heat), but really well worth it! He was also available on WhatsApp if we needed any further advice. Incredibly cheap, and highly recommended.
Great experience being free from schedules and time. We did not have a guide; everything was done with the phone.
I could not complete it because the audio cannot be played. Even though my internet connection was working perfectly. I do not recommend it!!
Very interesting experience I was able to visit Genoa making sense of what I was seeing, but above all many curiosities and many tips that the audio guide gave me. The thing that was most interesting for me was the fact that I focused on sites that for me were more interesting without having to wait or hurry for the group. I had the chance to break the described tour. Great experience recommend it
Great guide to visit Genoa in one day. From 10.30 in the morning we set off following the directions of the proposed itinerary. We were thus able to discover places in Genoa that we did not know. Useful explanations of places with audio (with earphones). Recommended.
Hello, It was an activity unknown to us and yet we must admit that it is very practical, since you have all the information of your visit and yet you go at your pace. I'm sure we'll use it again on subsequent trips. Jesus and Pillar
Essential but concrete guide. There is everything you need to see the center of Genoa in one day. Recommended solution.
Great audio guide. Must-see to discover Genoa for the first time. Links with Google Maps are very easy and you are never lost. Next time, I would like a little less churches (even if they are superb) and more other places. Good job!
It is really a great city tour to get to know the city without getting lost. I highly recommend it. Thank you so much!
Thanks to the tour mode we were able to follow the stops at our speed and enjoy the city without hurry. The tour is easily accessible online and the directions to follow are clear. An experience that we will definitely take into account in other cities! :)
We found ourselves very comfortable with this guide, easy to use and with many interesting news about the areas visited....
Easy to purchase and use guide. Very helpful. If I can make a request to implement it I would propose to add some details on the artistic aspects. Thank you.
I really enjoyed the tour. It was like having a history teacher with you as you walked the streets of Genoa, but with the flexibility to stop for lunch, take pictures or take a call, for example. I would only recommend giving more restaurant tips to try typical local dishes because the ones I saw listed mostly sold snacks and we wanted hot dishes in a restaurant. Otherwise, it was a good experience
