I cannot say enough about what an amazing experience we had. The shop owner and her son, the pesto technique, the stories, the meal and all the wonderful products!! Great way to end our time in Italy I cannot say enough— this is a must do!!

Itinerary
You’ll be welcomed into artisan "food and wine" shop in the heart of Genoa, near Columbus’ House. After a short briefing explaining the local ingredients, you’ll learn to make authentic Genovese pesto by hand, using a traditional marble mortar and wooden pestle. Then, enjoy the pesto you’ve made served over artisanal trofie pasta, paired with a tasting of one or two local wines: Vermentino and Ciliegiolo. We’ll finish with time to relax, take photos, and receive your participation certificate and a jar of long-shelf-life pesto to take home.

This small locally owned shop is a jewel. For directions put in the Columbus house and follow from there. Gaia is a wonderful teacher and no matter your cooking skills, the pesto will come out great. You have local wine with your meal. Try your pesto with the chestnut pasta!
This was a fun experience! We learned how to make pesto and made good memories. The instructions were easy to follow and the instructor was super friendly. It felt like hanging out with family. The wine was also excellent! I would highly recommend this experience.
We were immediately greeted and welcomed when walking in the shop. The shop owner was warm, kind and funny. She taught us how authentic pesto is made and I’m excited to do it at home. I highly recommend and will never forget this experience. My husband and I could not stop talking about how delicious authentic pesto tastes! It’s nothing like what you get in the store.
Barbara was the most wonderful host and it was so informative and we learned a great deal, it was also small and that contributed to the intimate more personable experience and just cannot say enough good things about this experience!
This was a lot of fun and I enjoyed learning how to make pesto. My husband, who doesn’t know how to do anything in the kitchen, went with me, and he even loved it! The brother and sister who taught the class were very friendly and helpful. And then we got to eat it after they cooked pasta for us to put the pesto on. I would highly recommend this activity.
Wonder experience. Learned so much about making pesto. Relaxing and pleasant. Enjoyed several samples of wine. Enjoyed eating the pesto sauce we made with authentic pasta. Truly a great experience if visiting Genoa.
Outstanding experience. A warm welcome to our family including 2 children aged 11 and 12. We all very much enjoyed making pesto as well as learning about local culture. Eating our creation with local wine finished off a perfect. Grazie mille!
We really enjoyed our pesto workshop, and we learned so much about Ligurian cuisine, wine and the area. We also ended up buying several products from local producers in the shop. Magnificent! Mille grazie!
Barbara was an amazing teacher, told us all the nuances of how and why the recipe is made. Our pesto was the best we’ve ever had. And her shop has so much to offer, from local wines, walnut pesto, guanciale, to mushroom extracts…all local. The experience is a must and I will be making homemade pesto from now on…. With the mortar and pestle we bought from her as well. She even indulged me by speaking with me in Italian, as I am still learning. Grazie Mille, Barbara.
Wonderful experience. Fun and now we know how to make great pesto! Host was super friendly and entertaining.
Fantastic experience. I will be making my own Pesto from now on. The girl teaching the class was awesome.
First of all, Barbara was completely amazing! She was so welcoming and her shop left me in awe! I love that the items in her shop for sale were from locals. The class was something my husband and I will never forget! I can’t wait to make pesto for my family here in the states!
Personal hands-on class by a friendly and warm host. Takes place in a charming shop that focuses on Ligurian products. Excellent class for all levels. Your work pays off with a delicious lunch made with your pesto and local wine. If you like pesto and have never made it Genovese style (with a mortar and pestle), then this is for you!
This was an incredible experience !! Barbara is a passionate instructor who is the perfect representation of a generous and happy Italian. She shares her passion through jokes and light discussions. Don’t forget the homemade pesto which was just fabulous and yummy. #Bestpesto I recommend this course at 100%
This cooking class was an amazing experience!! Barabara was really nice. It’s a good way to talk to a local, cook a delicious meal and learn about Genoa’s famous pesto ! I recommend 100%
This was a fantastic experience with our children, ages 13 and 17. The shop is amazing and we were guided step by step in making a delicious pesto, which we enjoyed over trofi pasta with some wines from the local area. A highly recommended experience while in Genoa.
Barbara, the shoppe owner and instructor, was wonderful! She was very patient and clear in her teachings. She made the class enjoyable and we now know how to make pesto. If you are looking for something unique to do and love pesto, this is a great experience.
I booked this class for myself and my sister during our recent stay in Genoa. We had an amazing time. The instructor, Barbara, was wonderful and took the time to explain everything. The classes are small in size and are held in a cute little shop that sells good for local artisans. It was a lovely experience and I look forward to doing it again the next time I visit Genoa.
Barbara and her daughter were so lovely. I am so grateful they did not cancel as I was the only participant. I appreciated the time she spent with me on a very busy day. Working with the mortar and pestle was much harder than I originally thought it would be. The payoff of the aroma and taste was so worth it. I left with a shelf stable jar of pesto as well as what was left of my own handiwork to eat on toast the next day. The wine was wonderful and it was a great way to spend the morning before exploring the city! Thank you Barbara for sharing your memories!
Wonderful experience!! The owners were wonderful and very accommodating. We got to taste two different white wines and have lunch with fresh pasta and fresh pesto… It does not get any better than that. Everyone needs this in their life!!
Excellent class. Learned about the history of pesto in Genoa and made delicious pesto the old school way. Recommend the experience
We had the most amazing time! We felt so cared for and learned so much! And the pesto… wow!! The best we’ve ever hard. Served over a delicious pasta and some amazing wine. We couldn’t recommend enough! The best experience
Great opportunity to make fresh pesto from scratch! Very easy class that walked us thru the ingredients, steps and important things to know. (Like can you refrigerate or freeze for later) While we made pesto, Gaia (Our instructor) made the pasta and we ate our pesto together at the end. Two local wines were included to pair with the pasta. It is a Mom and daughter shop and both were very helpful and personable. I would highly recommend this class to anyone. It was a nice couple of hours enjoying some good food and great company.
Not a 3 hour event. It took only 75 minutes. Pesto lesson, which took 20 minutes, was fine but that was all. Nothing else happened apart from eating pasta ( not fresh) with pesto and a cursory taste of wine. I had to ask to try more than one! Young women who introduced the event was pleasant but there seemed nothing else to do.
The class was great and very personable. We even got to eat the pesto with pasta and had some wine. At the end we got a certificate and a gift for participating. Thank you Gaia. So friendly and kind.
It was so fun, informative, and we love supporting a woman-owned small business. It’s in a local shop, so we bought pasta and were gifted lifetime sealed pesto to take home. We learned a lot about Genova and where they sourced all the ingredients. They played good music, provided water, explained everything fully, answered all our questions, and was just such a fun vibe✨
This is a great culinary experience to make pesto local to Genoa. Set in a beautiful family owned shop. Barbara was friendly and knowledgeable. Recommend!
It was an amazing experience! In the class we learned not only how to cook “Pesto genovese”, but also the history of cuisines in Genova, in Liguria and even in Italy, which make more fun to taste Italian food. To those who like Italian dishes I recommend this cooking class:)
This was such an amazing experience! My husband doesn't cook, so I was surprised he signed us up for this class, but- I am so glad he did. It was a very intimate class, the instructor was very knowledgeable and down to earth. I feel like I can teach people back home now how to make pesto from fresh ingredients. But then to indulge in our creation, and eat our fresh pesto with the pasta and paired with wines and bread. Oh my! Amazing! My only tip would be, use less salt than you think you need. My non-cooking husband had a perfect pesto until he added too much salt.
It was a wonderful afternoon spent with friendly people enjoying the beauty of Genovese food and wine together. In a tasteful little shop, Barbara sets up a table of equipment and glorious smelling basil bunches for everyone. The history and details of pesto’s development were very informative.
I learned to make delicious Pesto in a really nice, cozy environment. Very very delicious😋 It was a very clear and well explained lesson in a clean, cozy environment thank you.
What a fantastic experience! Much more than just a cooking class, owner was so sweet and informative. We learned so much about origin and history of foods in the area. Quaint shop and very intimate environment with great selection of local specialties. Highly recommend.
Barbara and Gaia are very friendly and patient teachers. They not only learn how to make the best pesto but also give a lot of information about the region and about its products. The nice decor in their shop in the small streets of Genova makes the experience complete!
Very pleasant and friendly experience, we highly recommend it. The dish was delicious and Barbara was very kind.
I had a beautiful experience during the lesson to prepare real Genoese pesto, accompanied by the tasting of some Ligurian wines and, naturally, by the pasta with the pesto we prepared. Ms. Barbara was simply fantastic: a very sweet, kind, and very helpful person, capable of putting you at ease immediately. The thing I appreciated most was the way in which she guided us in the preparation: she didn't just limit herself to simply explaining the various steps, but she told us the reason for the choices, the ingredients, and the techniques, sharing a lot of information and small details that really make the difference. You can clearly perceive his experience and passion for what he does. The environment is also very pleasant, welcoming, and comfortable, and it contributes to making the experience even more special. And then, obviously, everything we tasted was delicious: from the Ligurian wines to the pasta with freshly prepared pesto. A truly beautiful experience, which I absolutely recommend. I was enthusiastic about it and would gladly do it again!
The team at Bio Tigullio5terre is amazing. With the pesto lesson, they taught us in a simple, informative, and calm manner how to prepare an excellent Genovese pesto. The tasting of pesto paired with chestnut pasta and local wines was delicious👍.
An incredibly unique experience! Highly recommended. Really great cooking class with the best pesto we have ever eaten. Great presentation and entertainment. We felt very comfortable.
Barbara is passionate and she shares her passion with us. Patient with us, the 2 young teenagers (boys, first 😉) loved the course and delighted in the tasting! A big thank you and a perfect moment of sharing. Gracie
An amazing host, warm and good advice, pasta tasting with our own presto, a treat, an experience to do without hesitation, thank you
Great experience! Patient and with a lot of expertise and a personal touch! Recommended to every visit to Genoa! Just great!
Great course. Very relaxed and generous. Nice welcome! Good instructions. Many new things learned in a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended!
It was a really nice experience. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot. The instructor was very friendly, patient and totally open. In English we were able to communicate wonderfully and no questions remained unanswered. Always happy!!
