We had a great time at this surf camp. The host is very welcoming and offers excellent value – everything is fairly priced and accessible. The surf instructors are skilled and professional. We worked with different instructors during our stay, all of whom were knowledgeable and helpful. The team was responsive to any questions or feedback we had. We really enjoyed the variety of surf spots. We were taken to several remote locations with great conditions. The scenery was beautiful, and exploring different breaks was a real highlight. The accommodation is clean and comfortable. Our room was well-maintained and tidy. What made our stay special was the genuine hospitality of the host. He invited us to dinner, which was wonderful – not just the meal itself, but the chance to connect and hear about the local culture and way of life. I took a few private surf sessions with Danny at Surf & Stay Arugam Bay, and the whole experience was incredible from start to finish. Traveling alone, I felt super comfortable and welcomed straight away—the vibe at the place was relaxed, and the rooms are exceptionally clean. Communication via WhatsApp was effortless right from the start. Before hitting the beach, Danny took the time to go through the fundamentals and pop-up techniques at the hostel, which really helped build my confidence. Once we got into the water, his 1-on-1 coaching was very good. He knew exactly how to position me, and keeps an eye on incoming waves. After each session, he breaks down what went well and what to focus on next time. Thanks to his patience and structured approach, I went from a complete beginner to standing up on my own and catching several small waves by the end of the lessons! From the moment I contacted the surf school via WhatsApp, Danny responded quickly and made the booking process smooth and easy. We met at the hostel first, which turned out to be a great idea since we could practice the basics and dry-land exercises in the shade before heading to the beach. Our small group of three beginners then walked just a short distance to the surf spot. The waves at Aru Gambay were perfect for learning – warm water, beautiful scenery, and just the right amount of push to help me stand up on my first try! Hostel was a little hard to find, its shown as the meeting place on tje confirmationemsil.. Dont know why is meeting point isn't at the beach. My son had a fabulous time.

They were also very accommodating with me as I had food poisoning the day of my booking and allowed me to reschedule for another time. I was not planning to try surfing but Danny encouraged me to try and safe to say it was one of the best experiences. Danny was such a patient instructor and made sure both of us had the time of our lives. We got to use their sunbed all day and they even helped us sort our lunch. I booked two days for surfing. It wasn‘t my first time surfing but I learned a lot. Unfortunately I was only there for two days otherwise I would have booked more courses. So I can definitely recommend it!

Was searching for the surfing trainer and couldn’t find anyone , who can speak English well and at the same time could train good . Luckily I found Danny , first of all his English is so good and he is very professional, experienced. Training skills are in the high level . Danny was a very good surf instructor. He seemed experienced and friendly.

It was our second time surfing, and we had so much fun being able to be on the board so many times! The instructor taught me very carefully, so even beginners could enjoy it with peace of mind. At the end, I lost my strength and couldn't get out to the ocean, so it was over. It was fun to surf to the limit!! I would love to participate again. Thank you very much.

I had my first surf lesson (90 minutes). Through the website I got in touch with the surf school via WhatsApp. Danny answered super quickly- great. Meeting point was initially at the hostel. In hindsight it was great, because you could do some dry exercises in the shade. From there we walked a few steps to the beach. We were three rookies. Danny was a great surf instructor – super patient, professional and it was a lot of fun. Accompanied by a colleague who was equally nice. My conclusion strongly recommended.

All in all, it was ok. Not in terms of the way you approach your students. I texted the school on the phone number listed on the website back in October. Danny made contact. Explained everything carefully, arranged by prices and lessons. Then he started actively selling his services, because, he said, "he is more qualified than the others, so lessons cost more with him." Although he actually rolled back two days with me, he sent someone to replace him. We agreed that I would book 8 consecutive days of 2 lessons for a total of 16 lessons ($235, including the number of days of beginner and intermidiate). Went to a meeting, booked without paying in advance, however, on the first day of arrival I rushed to give the money so that classes would be accurate. Outcome: 1 day Danny hung out with me in the ocean (it was definitely the first day, on the rookie waves), no more lessons with me he went out into the ocean. Well, really, thank you for sending in a replacement chela (Sandeep), who tipped me off a bit. And then I was alone (without an instructor at all) hanging out in the ocean. All in all, ok, but the board rent is Rs. 1,000 per hour, and I was charged Rs. 7,000 for an hour and a half (as an intermidia lesson with an advanced instructor🤌). And on December 28, he completely unsubscribed to my question "I'm on vacation"😂 Well, he knew in advance about both the vacation and his absence and still charged me the FULL COST FOR 8 DAYS FOR CLASSES WITH HIM👍 $235)) One day I stepped on a sea urchin. I wrote to Danny that I definitely won't study until New Year's Eve, asked for a refund - payment of 4 days for 2 lessons intermidiat (Rs. 5,000 for 1 lesson). Total 40,000 rupees or $130. Total of 8 days I rolled back 4, missed - 4 (storm, difficult for beginners waves, sick and hedgehog). And if first I asked Danny, "if I don't roll back, can you return it?" he said, "Sure I will", then since December 28 he's just frozen me with answers :) Anyway, when I started digging into him, told him I was leaving soon, and that I needed money, he threw me "I'm not in Weligam." Then he wrote that "actually we don't refund the money, I already paid the teachers..." etc :) I don’t know what he meant or which teachers he paid🤷‍’‍ I didn’t do exactly half the time. They discussed the amount, and on January 5, Danny wrote "I will reach you". I never heard more about him or my $130 :) I hope my money helps him a lot! I don't know why I paid for it all at once, that was my fatal mistake🙈 All right. It happens.

I had never surfed and in less than an hour, thanks to the great advice of my coach, I could surf the waves. The team is really adorable, smiling, a great time shared. My teacher was attentive and caring for me. The beach is full of surf school but it is without hesitation that I recommend!
