This temple complex dates back to the first century BCE.It has five caves under a vast overhanging rock, carved with a drip line to keep the interiors dry. In 1938 the architecture was embellished with arched colonnades and gabled entrances. Inside the caves, the ceilings are painted with intricate patterns of religious images following the contours of the rock. There are images of the Lord Buddha and bodhisattvas, as well as various gods and goddesses.

We had the best experience and trip with our driver Madawa. He is very friendly, helpful and an experienced driver that knows how to handle all the different regions of Sri Lanka (which is not that easy especially in the mountains, heavy rain and in traffic situations). His clean appearance and van made the trip very pleasant. The atmosphere during the whole trip was very family like, due to his kind and funny character. He also has great knowledge and recommendations for sights, local food, restaurants and routes. In addition to that he knows how to skip some very annoying lines, which was very helpful. My family and I visited Sri Lanka for just over a week and decided to book a private driver following the positive reviews we had read on line. We arrived at the airport and were met by Madwa who was our driver for the duration of the trip. The vehicle was air conditioned and very comfortable and Madwa wa an excellent driver, always on hand to take us where we needed to go and making suggestions of destinations, including one stunning waterfall, which really added to our enjoyment of the holiday.

The best hospitality and prompt service by Mahesh tours, I genuinely wanted to write review regarding their service which was exceptional. Driver was prompt and always on time. The driving was safe and exceptional. Never rode the car rash even on a empty highway, he was always in the limit. What could have added cherry on top was if driver could guide us a bit. But I am not complaining, highly recommended please book from them and I am sure you will not regret it.
We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Mahesh Tour Company during our 10-day stay in Sri Lanka. From the very beginning, they were incredibly responsive, professional, and by far the most reasonably priced option we found. They provided full details of our driver in advance, which was very reassuring. They also arranged a car seat for our child, which made travelling so much easier and safer for us as a family. Our flight was delayed by over 10 hours, but this was handled seamlessly. Our driver was still there waiting for us at the airport without any issue, which immediately set the tone for how reliable they are. Our driver, Vishwa, was wonderful throughout the trip. He was polite, friendly, and made us feel completely at ease. At one point, we needed to exchange cash and he kindly offered to let us use his Sri Lankan currency and settle it later once we reached an exchange. We didn’t end up needing to do this, but it was such a thoughtful gesture and very reassuring. The company also regularly checked in with us during our stay to make sure everything was going well, which we really appreciated. The van itself was extremely comfortable and was cleaned every single day, which made a big difference over a longer trip. Overall, we couldn’t recommend Mahesh Tour Company highly enough. They made our trip smooth, stress-free, and genuinely enjoyable.
