Itinerary
Spreading over 30,000 hectares in Sri Lanka’s southern plains, Udawalawe National Park is built around the glistening Udawalawe Reservoir — a vital water source that attracts large herds of elephants all year long. Its wide grasslands, scattered scrub forests, and misty mountain backdrops form a naturally dramatic and highly photogenic wilderness. Alongside elephants, visitors can encounter buffalo, deer, crocodiles, and a rich diversity of birdlife that flourishes in this thriving dry-zone habitat. Unlike many wildlife reserves that close seasonally or limit access, Udawalawe stays open and lively year-round, guaranteeing steady wildlife activity and one of Sri Lanka’s most dependable and memorable safari experiences.

This is a great service, a direct route between towns, including a safari. Communication could have been better confirming the final arrangements the day before. But it was a great deal. The car, driver, safari vehicle and driver were all very good. It would have helped to have a more detailed timeline in advance. We had a fantastic day and saw loads of animals.
Wonderful experience, the safari was exciting, the drivers and the tour guide were great. Thanks
We got a transfer from Unawatuna to Ella with a safari in the middle. The experience was extremely smooth - great communication, the driver was there in advance and the safari was excellent. I would highly recommend using this company!
Easy transport, on time, safe driver. And got to do the safari on my list during a travel day. Very convenient!
Had a really smooth and fun experience and would do it again when I'm back in Sri Lanka. Driver was on time, saw bunch of elephants, crocodiles and other wild animals. Highly recommended.
Really nice and affordable tour, the safari has been amazing with a lot of wild life to spot, and the shuttle to Ella was great as well, very nice driver and relaxing journey.
Our tour of Sri Lanka was an unforgettable experience, made even better by our incredible driver, Kosala. From start to finish, he was outstanding—always punctual, professional, and genuinely friendly. His deep knowledge of the area and helpful nature made our journey smooth and enjoyable. Not only did Kosala ensure we had a fantastic safari experience, but he also went above and beyond by taking us directly to our next hotel afterward. Along the way, he even made a special stop to show us a breathtaking waterfall, adding an extra touch of magic to our trip. If you're planning a tour of Sri Lanka, we highly recommend booking with Kosala—his exceptional service truly made all the difference!
We had an amazing time on our tour, Kosala picked us up at 5am from our hotel and was an absolute legend during our journey to the safari and then to our accomodation in Ella. The safari exceeded our expectations, we saw a whole range of animals including elephants, wild boars, monkeys, peacocks and loads more! Would definetly reccomend this tour to everyone.
Good service and well organised. Pick up in Weligama. Driver was on time, car was very comfortable. Breakfast is tasty. Safari is well organised, friendly people. Would recommend.
I recommend going to uduwalale safari with this company, the guy who was giving us a trip was very professional and knew were to look for animals. There was a lot of birds, elephants and picocs.
Great safari, saw loads of elephants and other animals over a four hour safari at Udawalawa National Park. Comfortable safari jeep so everyone could have a view
This was a fantastic way to go on a safari around Udawalawe National Park and combine it with a transfer shuttle from Mirissa to Ella. Pick up was on time and brekky box was delicious. The safari was incredible, we saw so many elephants! It was a nice way to meet some other ladies travelling around Sri Lanka and to do the safari together. Would highly recommend.
We had a good day but it was EXTREMELY expensive for what it was. The breakfast was nice but quite small. The listing says driver and guide but there was one guy who did both & whilst he was great was hard to hear. The car we had also broke down so we missed the last 45mins of our trip which was a bit unfair. We ended up spend a lot of time looking at peacocks & a wetland but very little seeing elephants/monkeys which were what we came for. Overall whilst we had a nice day we felt it was far too expensive for what it was and we wouldn’t recommend this particular tour. The safari guide/drive was great as was the transfer driver.
This was a very comfortable and interesting way of getting from Mirissa to Ella. Driver was friendly and knowledgeable, was precice at pickup location and had brought delicious homemade pancakes. The safari trip was awesome, we saw a lot of animals and the guide made sure we noticed all the different birds as well as the bigger animals. Overall a great trip, highly recommended!
We did this trip from mirissa to Udawalawe National Park and then to Ella. The car was very nice and comfortable. We even had breakfast with a tasty pancake with coconut and honey and also water. Our driver was Kosala very friendly and calm guy. We arrived in Udawalawe and we did a safari for 3h which was an amazing experience and then the trip to Ella. Kosala was showing us some interesting points/ what to do in Ella. We enjoyed very much.
Overall very good. Smooth transition and hospitable. Driver was kind and thoughtful. Safari driver was a magic eye, finding every animal for watching. The snack they prepare is also delicious. Thanks:)
Although the safari was a a great experience and it was convenient to have a ride from Mirissa to Ella. Me and the group that was also in the car felt very unsafe the entire time because our driver kept falling asleep while driving. His eyes would close and he would press on the breaks constantly or swerve a lot. We were so worried we spoke up many times and asked him to please pull over somewhere to get coffee as some people were scared.
What a smart way to get from the south side of the island to Ella, seamless pick up, safari and drop off at your hotel in Ella. Your bags stay with the car while you enjoy the animals. The guide was fantastic! Don’t hesitate to book this tour.
Best way to travel from the coast in the South to Ella (where we got on a train to Kandy). Everything went smoothly. Our driver Sanjeewa was great, very flexible, and an actual good driver!!
Great tour, professional driver, but they charged me 30€ extra a day before because another person hadn’t joined the tour. This was not mentioned in their viator description and they had messaged me with the option to cancel only a day before the trip which left me with few options
Vehicle was clean and spacious. Driver was friendly and courteous. Safari was better than I expected. Lots of elephants including a few babies, peacocks, hawks, crocodile, monkeys Thanks for a great experience
I really enjoyed it, everything was very good organised. Highly recommended. They picked me up on time in Mirissa (5am), we want for a 3h Safari and I was left at my hotel in Ella around 12.30pm.
Fantastic trip. Well organised, they sent details the day before and phoned to confirm I had them. Driver was prompt and friendly, and trip itself was ideal - nice way to move between towns but get to explore on route. Recommended.
This is probably the best way to travel from Mirissa to Ella! I booked the tour for two people and we were picked up at our hotel in Mirissa at 5am, where we found out that we would be the only ones that day, so we essentially got a private tour. About 1.5 hours later we arrived at Udawalawe National park where we were greeted by our trekker with a breakfast. We got onto the safari jeep and were able to see many elephants, water buffaloes, crocodiles, monkeys and more during the safari. After the safari we got back into the car with our driver and were taken to Ella. We stopped at a waterfall along the way and still arrived in Ella ahead of schedule around noon.
This was a great option to travel from Dikwella to Ella and include a safari drive. I was travelling alone but was able to join with another solo traveler. The communication before the trip was great, and the whole process was very efficient and well organised. At Udawalawe we transferred into a safari jeep and were joined by a guide, who was able to spot a lot more than we’d have seen on our own and explain the animals’ behaviour.
Fabulous prompt service. Great way to travel from the south to Ella and experience a safari at the same time. The communication was very good and the driver dropped us to our destination at no extra cost. The safari we experienced was Uda Walawe National Park. Thoroughly recommend this company.
I was looking for a transfer from Galle to Ella, and so glad I stumbled upon this package! Definitely a worthwhile stop along the way, and the safari was a nice way to break up the drive. Our safari guide was excellent, our driver was on time and drove safely, and communication was great from start to finish.
Really impressed with the organisation and communication from this tour company. There was good communication prior to the day from Thisara and the driver. Our taxi driver Dushan was able to pick us up right near to our Airbnb which was quite off the beaten track, and provided us with breakfast to take on the safari. The car was spacious and comfortable. We had a fantastic day seeing elephants and many many other animals at the national park - I’m sure one of the best things we will do on our trip to Sri Lanka! The tour price included a safari guide (and jeep) who met us right at the entrance upon arriving from Mirissa. Our guide, Gimhana was very knowledgeable and experienced. We had an amazing experience with a family of elephants and then got a bit nervous when the mother elephants were defensive of their babies, but Gimhana kept his cool and was able to diffuse the situation, we felt very confident/safe with him. He could spot so many things that we never would have noticed, like small birds and lizards etc or a crocodile way in the distance. Dushan waited for us while we were on the safari (4 hours) then took us the remainder of our journey to Ella. He kindly took us very close to our Airbnb which was a bit out of town up steep roads, and then helped us walk with our luggage and find the place - very good service, thank you!
It is a great and practical option to get from beautiful Mirissa is also beautiful Ella. Just cool that you can combine this with a safari. The sunrise was not quite as spectacular (I was hoping it would be in the park) and you should think of a thin jacket early in the morning. The safari ride is very bumpy. The guide was very professional and friendly, the animals and nature beautiful and the breakfast delicious!
We found the safari very nice. We were allowed to see elephants, peacocks, various birds, monkeys and much more. Our driver (before the safari) was totally helpful and eager. Very cool that we were picked up from the hotel (Mirissa) and driven to the nearest hotel (Ella). The food was fine too.
