Niyagama, wow! This is an incredibly special place. We visited for 4 nights and did the Earth & Air Bliss Retreat which was amazing. Starting with the yoga, Elke is a fantastic and professional teacher. The Hatha was invigorating and fun, with safe alignment and practice being key, the meditation was well thought through and structured even allowing us novices to find focus, and the aerial was so well cued and taught and was so much fun and freeing as well as being calming. Moving onto the food - again wow! Everything from the morning tea, fresh healthy juices to the legit Sri Lankan food was just perfect and so delicious!!! The rooms were beautiful with a balcony set in nature with the amazing wildlife surrounding and the massages were also incredible! This is a very special place and if you’re thinking of visiting (which I will definitely do again), I would recommend booking! You won’t regret it! Thank you to Elke and the Niyagama team!

Me and my partner Brent stayed at Niyagama House in April and we spent 6 nights there treated like a king and a queen. This was my second stay there and Brent’s third. I think it’s our favourite place in Sri Lanka as you are fully immerse in nature and wildlife but very close to Galle Fort. Elke and her staff were superb, the food so delicious and the juices very juicy. 😋 At night you can hear the crickets and frogs concerto and in the morning the birds are singing beautifully. Definitely recommended and we will come back again.
Niyagama House was undoubtedly the highlight of my trip to Sri Lanka. From the moment you arrive, Elke and the entire team make you feel genuinely welcomed and cared for, consistently going above and beyond in every detail. The hospitality is exceptional in every sense: thoughtful, attentive, and deeply personal. Everything was outstanding: the warm service, the beautifully prepared and so delicious food, the serene property surrounded by nature and the excellent yoga classes. This is a truly unique place, offering a deep connection to place and a rare sense of calm. You naturally slow down here, settling into the peaceful rhythm of the property almost immediately. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a restorative and meaningful experience immersed in Sri Lankan culture. Thank you Elke and team❤️
Just had the most wonderful two night stay at Niyagama. From the airport to my next location in Sri Lanka, the service was impeccable. The rooms: light and spacious. Beautiful decorated. Well equipped, including mini fridge and waterfall shower. The food: fantastic! Had Sri Lankan breakfast and curries in the evening. Everything was freshly cooked and adapted to my dietary needs. There is also a western menu on offer if you want a change. Location: Off the highway but surrounded by beautiful nature and palms. I swam both days in a lovely pool. I used the minibus transfer from the airport to the hotel which had wonderful AC, cushioned seats and snacks with water. A tuktuk (hotel owned) brought me for an afternoon in Galle and met me at pick up. As a solo traveller I felt very safe and well looked after. Elke and the team were attentive and helped organise a lovely itinerary including yin yoga and a massage with a lovely local lady in house (highly recommended having as it was honestly the best massage I’ve had). If you’re thinking of booking, just do it. I will hopefully be returning with my mum in the future.
If you want a peaceful serene and quiet place to switch off, do some yoga and meditate then this is the place for you. Elke was very welcoming and friendly and very knowledgeable about yoga and healing therapies. The house is beautiful with lovely courtyard in the centre and rooms on top floor all around, most with balconies but some quiet open spaces to sit and read. Pool is lovely non chlorinated and perfect way to cool down later in the day. Rooms were comfortable and typical Sri Lankan wooden furniture for beds, wardrobes etc. We did Yin, Hatha and Aerial yoga sessions with Elke which are charged additionally and early morning meditation is free. Aerial yoga was an exhilarating experience and a must try as Elke is very patient and very safe teacher. I also did some EFT - tapping sessions with her which was very helpful. The staff are all lovely as they are part of the family and Prasad who took care of all our needs was amazing, so kind and patient. Food can be ordered A la Carte or can pay $18 for selected meals and some hot drinks included. We had authentic Sri Lankan curries a few nights which were very tasty and delicious. It’s a good place to unwind and rest and the options to choose to do the yoga practices and meditation is great. Location is very good, only about 15 minutes to Galle by Tuk Tuk and couple of hours from Colombo.
