We had an amazing experience with Thiago as our guide in Madeira! He was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the island. He shared fascinating insights into Madeira’s history, culture, flora and fauna, which got us all really interested and made the journey even more enjoyable. What made the experience extra special was discovering authentic local spots beyond the usual tourist attractions, including a local eatery, poncha place and BBQ spots. Fabio was absolutely amazing and took us on the most memorable trip of our entire time in Madeira and Portugal! We liked it so much that we immediately booked another tour with him specifically. Each scenic stop was visually stunning, and he really knew how to adapt the route to minimize crowds and optimize for weather. Our favorites were the viewpoints and the fanal forest. For lunch and drinks, Fabio suggested several authentic options with local ingredients, including prego sandwiches and a salad that we took for a picnic, and a stop to try poncha and later Nikita. We learned about this tour operator from their YT channel and it exceeded all expectations! Thanks Fabio and the whole team.

This tour took us through Cabo Girão, Ponta do Sol, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Ribeira de Janela and the magical Fanal trail. We made frequent stops for short walks, the beach, or a coffee. The driver, Wilson, was vey competent and took us on a few roads that were better than a roller coaster ride at the boardwalk! This was a great way for us to get an overview of these places on the western island without having to drive ourselves. This is my third trip to Madeira. Thank you!

Picked up and dropped off at our hotel in a Land Rover. One other couple with us. It was a great day out. Our guide was called Tiago and he was very personable and knowledgable. His driving was extremely skilful and there was a couple of times I wasn't sure we were going to get around some of the steep corners but thankfully we did! He took us to several coastal villages/towns and up a mountain, by and large avoiding the crowds. We had a relaxed stop for a very good lunch. We stayed out a little longer than intended and had a great time.

I had a great experience with Hit the Road Madeira. I really liked that it was more of a bespoke tour as opposed to the locations being set in stone. Wilson was an amazing driver and tour guide. He knew the best places to stop with the least crowds and the times we should get there. He gave us just the right amount of information and had a great sense of humor. This was the second your we did with hit the road having gone the east tour the week before. On this occasion Fabio was our guide and driver and again didn’t disappoint. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly and we had a great time meeting other people on the trip. The small group size meant you really did get a personal service. Brilliant and we would certainly use hit the road again.

This was a great trip. Jeff is an amazing guide who is passionate about what he does. He clearly loves Madeira and knows a lot about it. I really appreciate the fact that he stays flexible with the tour schedule so it does not feel forced or rushed. He also chooses, unlike many tour companies, less obvious and popular spots which still provide great experience and are less crowded. I wholeheartedly recommend the tour.

Everything went smooth, the people was helpful and amazing with the rent and im glad i could use their service.

A group of 6, 3 couples travelled with Vitor for the whole day. We were picked up from our hotel at 9am and dropped back at 5.30pm. Vitor asked if we knew what we wanted to see and came up with a good plan. He did not take us to overcrowded tourist spots but to better places. He is a very friendly and knowledgeable young man. We had an amazing day with Thiago on our West Madeira trip. We learned so much from him about the island’s history as well as seeing so many beautiful sights. We loved every moment of the day, saw so many special places we would never have found on our own and made memories that will last forever. We can’t wait to come back to Madeira and will be hoping for an East Madeira tour with Thiago too!

Any tour with “Hit the Road Tours” is worth it. I did the East, West, and Sunrise tour. Every tour I took exceeded my expectations. And you can’t go wrong with their prices. Each tour felt like a full day of adventure, education, stunning sights, and great stops for food/drinks. I would use this group again in the future!

My tour of Madeira was exceptionally well organized and offered an excellent balance of breathtaking scenery, local culture, and historical insight. Wow what a great day with Hit the Road , Vitor was a great guide so knowledgeable being a local and enthusiastic made it so personal, listening to his stories of growing up in Madeira this local knowledge of the roads and short cuts made it such a special day . Had an absolutely fabulous day with Fabio, this tour has been the highlight of our holiday with the experiences tailored to us. Fabio was so welcoming, friendly and informative we were made to feel like friends from the start. I cannot do physically challenging activities due to health but Fabio took us to do shorter walks so that we could experience the landscape at my ability level. We had a picnic in Fanal forest and tried the best poncha in a little out of the way place as well as getting up close to banana growing. The land rover discovery is a really comfortable off road vehicle and we felt that we were in capable hands the whole time. I would not hesitate to recommend this experience to anyone interested in getting under the skin of

We had the absolute best experience today on the West Madeira tour with Fernando as our guide! He was so fun, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable about the island. His English was excellent, which made everything easy and engaging. Fernando was born and raised in Madeira, and you can really feel his passion and pride in every stop along the way. He also recommended a lunch spot that turned out to be the best meal we’ve had in Portugal so far—such a highlight! Traveling as a group of five women, we were laughing, singing, and completely in awe of the island’s beauty all day long. Fernando made the experience unforgettable with his great energy and warm personality. Truly a fantastic guide and an all-around wonderful character. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic tour with Hit the Road Madeira! I can’t praise our guide, Fabio, enough. He was born and raised on Madeira and his in depth local knowledge and insights made the tour come alive. He was very warm and friendly. We felt like we were his guests more so than his clients. The sights that we visited were great, with ample free time to explore. We visited the Fanal Forest, Seixal, the natural pools at Porto Moniz, several observation points, had a great meal at a local restaurant that served an awesome Espetada (local skewers of beef filet), and two great bars. We revisited Fabio’s favorite beach bar and sunset spot twice. With his local knowledge, Fabio was able to direct our tour on a course that hit otherwise busy routes and sights at times when we avoided the big tour buses. Fabio is from Madeira. He not only knew how to time the tour to avoid crowds at popular sights, but also was adept at telling us Madeiran history, politics, economics, and what has happened to tourists who lacked safety sense.

Just did the tour with Fabio on 3/14 with 2 couples and had a blast. Fabio was so informative, knowledgeable and fun. He knew some secret spots and timed things so it wasn't chaotic with all the other tours going on so that was awesome. I recommend the tour and shout out to Fabio giving me a fun memorable experience! :)

We did the full day West tour and also a sunrise tour. This is the way to go! For the west tour - we had Fabio. So energetic, fun! He looked at the weather and adjusted a bit, and was perfect! The only area we really had rain or clouds was Fanal forest, which you want that! Waves were stinging Porto Moniz and was chilly so no swimming, but so beautiful! The best part is that it was just fun and relaxed and not a stressful! Like a prefect road trip with friends. Great sites, never rushed. Not an exact checklist to complete, yet saw so many highlights regardless! For the sunrise tour, the weather was bad! Snowing in the peaks, wind and clouds and rain. We got a message the night before offering to reschedule or refund or go for a plan B. We were up for anything since it was our last day and trails were all closed anyway. So- off we went! We had Jeff and just my husband and I and was a great morning! Making the most of it all and some great viewpoints, coffee and pastries, hidden little water spot. A great time! If you have a choice, pick these guys! The best. They will adjust with the conditions rather than just short you activities and time

I had de best first day on the island, Tiago was the best guide ever, advices, laughs and historical anecdotes all day long ! We were just two on this tour and i felt like i made friends. Spots are great, I did not feel like a tourist, he took the time with us, the day was full. I recommend 100% !

Hugo the best! We did the Western part of Madeira . Hugo was very knowledgeable! We love the beautiful sites! Hugo took us to non touristy area which was great! Hugo brought to a really good restaurant for lunch! Non touristy! Just what we were looking for!

The tour was so informative and tailor-made to the sites which were of more interest to us. We were able to provide feedback to our professional guide Jeff before the tour. He met and by far exceeded our expectations. He personalized the tour with some personal touches about his own background and was interested in learning about us. As seniors he also was considerate to not expose us to experiences that would possibly require too much physical activity. We also had to pleasure of doing other tours with other guides from this company and each one provided an entertaining and different take on what we were seeing; but they are all well versed in the island history and will take you places that other companies are too big to do. These tours are intimate. If you want a mass-produced, impersonal and large groupie, then you might want another company. This one provides a small, personalized and unforgettable experience.

Absolutely fabulous day out with Hugo on our West Coast tour. We were picked up outside our accommodation (timings were arranged the day before) and off we went on our adventure. It wasn't long before we were driving through stunning scenery, stopping off at various points of interest and also going to some places off the beaten track, that we would never have found ourselves. We had a coffee stop, lunched with the locals watching the surfers and enjoyed a fresh poncha on the way home. Trusting our guide Hugo was the best decision as his choices of where to go were better than some of the places on our list which were quite busy and touristy. Don't hire a car, let Hit The Road take the strain and show you beautiful Madeira.

We spent a great day touring west of Madeira with Dinarte, who regaled us with the rich history and personal stories of the island. We travelled thorugh and stopped at all the areas we wanted to admire. The recommendations for additional places to visit, activities to try and restaurants to go to were wonderful and very helpful. Our guide was lively, accommodating, ensured we were safe throughout the trip and answered all our questions. We really enjoyed the full-day tour.

The trip was a relaxed itinerary which allowed us to explore independently. The trip fit in a lot of locations without feeling rushed, and our guide always checked we were happy with the plans. Our group was a little quiet but that meant we all agreed on what we’d like to see/do - a wonderful experience overall.

Did the trip with Fabio. We previously did the East of Madeira 3 years ago with Hugo. Also did a sunset trip this holiday with Vito. All excellently managed with hotel pickup in Funchal. Will travel with them again in future. Great company with knowledgeable guides.

We had an incredible, private, full day tour of the Western mountains and coast. Our guide Tiago who grew up in Madeira was an expert in the local history, flora, fauna, geology, and geography of the island. We learned so much and experienced the most breathtaking landscapes imaginable. Tiago showed us all the bucket list sites and some “hidden gems” like some less frequented natural pools that we practically had to ourselves. After 8 hours with Tiago he felt like family. I don’t know how to pay a higher compliment than that.

Nice trip to the West of Madeira. Tiago is an enthousiast local that can talk very enthousiastic about the island. I was traveling alone, but in total we were with 6 in the Land Rover. Plus Tiago, our driver. He tries to take some local roads (or shortcuts as he called them) instead of the big main roads. We have seen some nice things. Also the lunch (not included) was very good. It was a relaxed way to discoer the South. You don’t have to look at your navigation and you hear some interesting things about Madeira.

This tour was wonderful. Vitor was an excellent driver and kept it fun and entertaining going up roads only a Jeep can handle. The weather turned out to be beautiful as well. The lunch spot was nice with enough time to take a dip into the ocean as well. Definitely a must. Can’t wait to come back to Madeira.

This was our first trip to Madeira, and our jeep tour with Tiago was a major highlight. He picked us up in the town where we were staying and we enjoyed a wonderful 8 hours with he and another couple.
