Snorkelling Trip At Ponta De São Lourenço Protected Area

Wonderful boat ride to and from snorkel spot everything we needed was given to us and instructions were clear and concise in our language

The guides were just brilliant. Really supportive, really chilled, really fun. Don't expect the great barrier reef, but some lovely local fish and an atmospheric snorkel around the steep underwater cliffs. Supported me as a solo woman, till I found my groove and was off.

Nice crew and equipment, but poor diving. Little fish to see and little life on the sea bottom. Much better diving just outside the freshwater pool by the hotel. By mask and snorkel and try that instead.

Affordable price for a sufficient duration of activities. The facilitators were very fun and entertaining, all in a pleasant atmosphere! We highly recommend this activity for a great time!

Good vibes, friendly instructors, clean equipment and beautiful view. The whole trip lasted about one and a half hours.

It was awesome! The boat ride was fun, the guides were amazing, and we saw so many fish and crabs! The water was way calmer than expected, too.

A very interesting expedition with knowledgeable and friendly people. You can see the ocean's underwater life and Cape St. Lawrence from a different perspective.

Vlad, Andrea, Jess all looked after us to give a fabulous snorkelling trip. We (x2 adults x3 kids) all had fun and we saw lots of fishes. Would recommend as something you can all enjoy together. Azul provided wetsuits, fins, mask and snorkel.

Guides were awesome, great sense of humor while still being safe. Saw some awesome wildlife and water conditions were amazing. Would recommend.

We really enjoyed this snorkeling adventure. Beautiful scenery and lots of fish to see. The staff was very helpful, especially with our son who had a little difficulty with the gear. I’d definitely recommend doing this with family or friends.

Not a ton of fish to see but maybe that’s was specific to the day we went. But the rock formation they took us to was breathtaking! The water felt amazing. The ride there on the boat was very enjoyable. The introduction meeting was sloppy and a little stressful, but other than that the tour was great! Staff was friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed the immersive experience of observing the marine life in this protected area. Watch out for jellyfish! This location is quite far from Funchal and you have to find your own transportation, so keep that in mind. Getting a taxi there was simple, but much more difficult to find a return.

We enjoyed our time, the guide was very nice and gave us an excellent safety briefing, but unfortunately we saw much less wildlife than we had expected.

The guides were great, the whole experience was amazing, but be aware that going the meeting point better be with a car, otherwise is too complicated.

A fun afternoon where we saw lots of beautiful fish. The wetsuits were new and excellent quality and the experience was slick and ran on time. The two chaps that took us out were professional and fun. Afterwards one went through the fish we may have seen with me using a book. Only disappointment was our son left his trainers in the changing room and despite me phoning and messaging no one returned my messages. Eventually I did manage to speak to someone who told me they weren’t there but we decided to drive all the way back anyway and they were there! 2 days later exactly where we said! However this didn’t detract from an excellent trip just the overall experience.

This was the BEST snorkeling experience! My son and I had a great time and saw lots of beautiful fish. The team was great, very accommodating, kind and fun! Stunning views during the boat ride to the snorkeling cove. Definitely recommend!

We really didn’t see much of anything. Could be because of the current or could be because the snorkel gear was repeatedly getting fogged up. Myself and others had a hard time seeing through them and we expected more out of a diving place. The wetsuits kept us warm, but they were so ripped up they kept falling off. We couldn’t find the place because you can only see the sign when coming down the hill. Took us 15 minutes to find the place and when we did, the lady just rudely told us “it’s on the website. There’s a video” and seemed like it was our fault we couldn’t find the place. We received no message after booking at all saying to arrive early for putting on the wetsuits or where to meet. We booked through Trip Advisor, not the website, so we saw no video nor did we receive a message with a video. Very little talking on the boat with instructions and no one got in the water to guide you over to wherever the fish were. Once I got out of the water and only then, did one of the guys show me a book with the different types of fish. Worst snorkeling experience I’ve ever had. Would not recommend washing your time. Best part was just the boat ride going over there.

Nice and kind stuff. Our main guide , ocean biologist Natasha described us all of animals we can met and was our support during time in water. We saw mamy of local fish and during way to Garajau we saw dolphins and on way back monk seal.

Wonderful experience with Natasha, a marine biologist, who explained everything in a way for all to understand what we were going to see and how the snorkeling equipment is best used. Everyone had a great time and must have been good, we got a snack at the end. Highly recommend the opportunity.

The beaming smile on my daughter's face. The team is young (true that at my age they tend to be), intelligent and full of life. It was a first for me and my daughter and had no idea what we had let ourselves in for. The crew made the group comfortable, and both my daughter and I were enchanted by Natasha who looked after us very well. I fell like sac in the water like a troll in the nursery and to my amasement, Natasha could convince all those beautiful sea creatures to come and greet us. We believe she has magical powers. Thank you to the whole team! I did nottake any photos, it is all kept in a special place down memory lane.

The staff were great. We arrived at the diving centre, received our flippers (snorkel & mask were on the boat), we were then driven to the marina & it took about a 15mins boat ride to get to our location - saw hundreds of fishes of different varieties and even an octopus. I’d only snorkelled once before & I wasn’t great at it, but our guide gave me a couple of tips and I did much better. Highly recommended.

The snorkeling is really fun! And the guide is very funny and knows lots of information of local fish and surrounding Definitely a fun activity to do when you are in Madeira.

After our last visit we went back for a Snorkeling trip this time. As usual we have been very happy with these guys. Ponta de Sao Lourenço is truly an amazing place, is where they take these amazing pics with amazing cliffs and blue waters. The equipment was clean and in excellent conditions. They provided us a wetsuit which was very welcome since the water was a bit chilly compared to the carribean where we usually go. A lot of fish to see, small, big, colorful, strange crabs. After more or less 1.5 hours we headed back doing a tour of the coastline of Baia D'Abra. After all it's 2 trips at the cost of one. lol

we have had a great time with the two guides, who were friendly, patient and inspiring! WE did not see exciting animals, but had a great swim at different places

Wie loved This experience The Two guys are verywelcoming charming and Patient,So we have had enough time to look out for fishes but we haven’t seen very exciting things but we have seen some colourful fishes and we enjoyed the ride on the boat. Thanks

We booked a snorkeling trip with this company. We arrived too early but we’re greeted by a not so welcoming manner by the girl at reception. We just wanted to check in and leave a bag as we were going to eat before the trip. We returned later at the correct time for the snorkeling trip. There was a number of staff working at not one of them approached us to get forms signed. We sat for 40 mins before someone looked after us. We were told the tour was 2 hours. By the time they got us on the boat a good 45mins we’re gone if not more. We were sharing the tour with divers and we quickly became aware that the trip solely revolved around the divers. We dropped the divers off at a point and then the boat travelled to the end point for the divers. At that point we were given a brief introduction to snorkeling and given a small area to swim in. We had 20mins in the water and that was it! The divers returned and we were asked if we wanted to go again. By this point everyone was back in the boat and you felt you were going to hold everyone up if you went to snorkel again. There wasn’t much to see for the snorkeling itself. I appreciate that this isn’t something that the company can control, but perhaps a few more stops for the snorkeling would have been better. Overall, the customer service and attention to their clients was terrible. It should be advertised as a 20 minute snorkel rather than 2 hours.

My mother, boyfriend and I all spontaneously decided to go on a snorkelling trip and wow what a great time we had! The staff were all very pleasant, friendly and very accomodating. They were very kind to us all and explained everything clearly - putting my mother at ease. Overall a lovely experience and we would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing adventure.

They were very nice people by really not much to see with the snorkelling, only a couple of fishes and some small jelly fish.

A great thing to do. We did not have a lot of experience with snorkling, and had a lot of questions. Azul Diving answered all of them quickly via e-mail. Their written English skills was very good. Our italian guide Marco spoke briliant English and was very helpful and welcoming. We went in a small speedboat along the coastline. A spectacular sight in it's own. Wonderfull cliffs with small caves. We arrived at our snorkling area, right next to some tall beautiful cliffs. It's fun in general to be swimming in the Ocean, and Snorkling makes it even more fun. A cheap and fun alternative to Levada Walks or Nun Valley trips.

Honestly, Ponta de San Lourenco (that´s the peninsula northeast of Madeira, paradise) is so beautiful that the diving experience you´d expect and deserve should be equally outstanding, right? Right. Thanks to Azul Diving this has become a reality. We did scuba and snorkeling, fabulous. They go the extra mile as to set up everything for you, five-star style. I know that for some of you experienced divers it must sound they babysit you, but it speaks about safety and security and they respect it. I´m a fan of Madeira, and if/when I return, I´ll dive again with Marco and his team.

Really enjoyed this activity, the staff were lovely, and the water was some of the clearest I've ever gone swimming in. Not as colourful or diverse as a tropical reef, but it's so clear it is still well worth doing.

My wife and daughter loved the morning exploring the marine life of maderia so much my daughter is desperate to now go scubber diving. The guides were fantastic and we had a fantastic trip, we even blest to see a young monk seal.

My wife and I, in our mid 60’s, booked a half-day snorkelling trip with Azul Diving. They cheerfully equipped us and the other five people who were also out for the snorkelling trip; we roared off in a large inflatable motor-boat to a secluded bay near Baia d’Abra. Although it was mid-October the weather was fabulous, sunny and warm, and the sea was calm. The water was just as blue as the sky with visibility to tens of metres, and at 23 degrees very comfortable too. Our instructors and guides Marco and Pedro were unobtrusively vigilant and inspired self-confidence, clearly experts, and were very good company too. After an hour in the water we boarded the boat and moved to another location where the sun shone in at the mouth of the cave where we swam, an underwater treat! The changing rooms and showers back at base were spotlessly clean and bright. The whole trip was a lovely memorable experience – thank you so much, guys! If we return to Madeira we’ll be back with you again.

Very nice instructor, boat tour past beautiful cliffs to the dive spot. I didn't expect that many fish. Plenty of time to snorkel. Good paramedic facilities for a warm shower afterwards.

The guides were super nice, relaxed and professional. The trip was already extremely great in terms of landscape alone and the snorkel spot just top! You can hardly spend better 2.5 hours for the price. Unrestricted recommendation for anyone without seasickness and with seahorses:)

Our first snorkeling trip on Madeira has been a special experience. The waves were too high in our eyes to snorkel quietly. It fluctuated quite a bit. Unfortunately few fish seen.

Had wat ons betreft niet door moeten gaan. Te veel golven. Er was zelfs iemand aan het overgeven. Zeer vriendelijke ontvangst door begeleider.
