Private Funchal City Tour By Tukxi

6 hour private tuktuk tour with Daniela the Chestnut Queen was a fantastic experience. We left the day up to her based on our interests and how the day developed and I highly recommend doing so. This excursion felt more like meeting up with a local friend who wanted to show you their favorite things to do based on the season, and available activities. You could certainly do a punch list trip of 10 things you want to see but we enjoyed taking it slow and savoring the day with great conversation, casual stops for tasting local goods and truly feeling what a Madeiran would do on this day. Lucky for us the 42nd annual Chestnut Festival fell on our trip day and we motored over to the valley of the nuns after our Monte Toboggan adventure. Daniela guided us to the best vendors for chestnut soup, liqueur, cake, apple ciders, aguardiente com mel, and other local treats. Chestnut cheesecake is to die for. This event was almost all locals so it felt extra special and we wouldn’t have enjoyed nearly as much without an engaging guide. Best part of the whole day is that we’ve made a fast new friend on the other side of the Atlantic and shared a day in our lives together that won’t be forgotten.

Four of us enjoyed an EXCELLENT tour of Funchal with Tiago, who provided interesting commentary throughout -- in perfect English -- and, at our request, escorted us to a very pleasant Madeira wine tasting at D'Oliveiras. Highly recommend.

Margarida I gave us the best tour ever out of Funchal and outlying areas. We went to all kinds of little places in her Tuktuk which was so much fun. She knew the island so well. It’s been in her family for generations. Her English was excellent. She took us to all kinds of well-known places and other little secret places, I highly recommend her.

We took a Tuk tour with Dannilla and it was a really memorable experience. We learned so much about the history and geography of Funchal and found it a great way to find our bearings. Dannila was a really pleasant and informative guide and the hour and a half we spent with her was truly enjoyable. We booked the tuk tuk tour last minute on our cruise ship when our original excursion was cancelled. We had just been in Lisbon the day before on a tuk tuk that was mediocre at best so we did not have high expectations. Well, the tuk tuk Gods smiled down on us and we were assigned to the tour guide, Joao Silva. After a 21 day Cruise with 8 port stops, our day with Joao was a highlight of our entire trip. Joao took time to orient us to the city layout for later Adventures on our own and most importantly, he took some time to get to know my husband and I so he could cater our tour and experience to what we would enjoy. Top notch tour with a great guide! Highly recommend and hope you are lucky enough to get Joao Silva for your Funchal adventure.

Tiago was an excellent driver and guide. He made the city tour fun. The three of us enjoyed it very much and can highly recommend to discover Funchal. The TukTuk can get through all the narrow streets of Funchal.

This is a simple tour which helps give an understanding of Funchal and how to get about. The tuk-tuk is fun. Yes the cobbled streets give your back a bit of a workout but it really is enjoyable

We had a wonderful, informative driver who spoke excellent English and knew a lot about both Madeira and other Countries. His name was Tiago, and nothing was too much trouble for him. I would highly recommend this trip with this Company.

We were able to get our bearings in the lovely city Pedro was a good guide and driver. He even took us to a wine shop to get wine on the way home!

Four of us really enjoyed this tour! It was 1-1/2 hours, which was the perfect amount of time to ride around in the Tuk-Tuk and see a good portion of Funchal City. Our guide was very nice! We made a quick stop at the local market with some time to peruse the vendors. We also saw a couple of churches, some scenic viewpoints and even had a short amount of time to shop. The guide was easy to understand, too and picked up/dropped off right at our cruise ship.

Danielle gave us a nice overview of this beautiful city. A fun and easy way to see the highlights. If you are looking for detailed culture and history commentary, you may wish to choose another option. But for a short, personal way to get an overview, this was great.

Excellent way to see Funchal. Thiago our quite was knowledgeable and very entertaining. I had read some reviews on some Tuk Tuks struggling with the hills around Funchal, but this was electric so wasn't a problem at all. Well worth the trip

We had one day in Funchal during our cruise and selected the Customized 3, 4 or 6-hour tour. We chose four hours to give us some additional time in the city. An excellent choice. Our guide Francisco met us at the cruise terminal as planned and we had a discussion about a few places we wanted to visit. He customized the tour so we took in our requests and much more. Francisco is an excellent guide who is a true local from Madeira. Amazingly knowledgeable and very able to pass on his knowledge of Funchal and area. Our tour took us to Cabo Girão sky walk where we enjoyed a stunning vista of the island. I am a fan of urban street art and was quite pleased to see the Lobo-marhino wall installation at Baía de Câmara de Lobos and the Mero along the water near the CR7 museum by the artist Bordallo II. We made a number of stops and were always relaxed for time to take in the local area. Only one day available in Funchal. This was the way to spend it with the expertise and fantastic hosing by Francisco

What a fabulous way to experience beautiful Funchal. Our driver John was so helpful and friendly and took us to so many sights most tourists wouldn't see. He dropped us off at a great little bar to sample the local cuisine. The communication with the company was excellent. Highly recommend.

In just 3 hours we leant so much about the city and saw some amazing sights. Margarida was a superb guide. Her passion for Funchal and Madeira absolutely shone through and we loved hearing all about her city. We came into Madeira on a cruise ship with a limited time in the city and this was such a great way to see it. Thank you Margarida for an amazing tour.

If you are planning a tour to Madeira, you should definitely book with Margarida. She is not only a professional with deep knowledge of the country and people, but also a wonderful hostess. Some weeks before our cruise we booked the tuk tuk for our day in port, had a great guy, Martim Olim, with plenty of knowledge of the city tour, with a friendly service. Pleased with the punctuality of our driver. Had a great time.

The tour driver who was charming and very knowlegable gave us an insightful tour of Funchal using backstreet routes which added great character to the drive

The tuktuk which arrived for our Tukxi Tour was in desperate need of mechanical work to fix both the brakes and stalling problems. This continual stalling throughout the tour happened on Funchal;s steep and winding roads which made the whole experience very uncomfortable, despite the driver managing to eventually restart the tuktuk when it stalled. The screaming and grinding of the brakes throughout the tour made it impossible to hear what the guide was saying unless he physically turned around to speak loud enough to drown out the sound of the brakes. From what we experienced, I wouldn’t recommend this tour.

Margarida, our driver was EXCELLENT. She gave us wonderful understanding of the Island's history, economics, culture, and dynamics. As a local, she was able to answer all our questions with much insight. The tour hit as many top sites as was possible in a 90 minute tour.

We had an issue with pick up and operator blames google ref on Viator. I think a better route description would also help. Once aboard we were taken to the market a church and a garden left at each to explore alone. If asked questions our local guide was full of knowledge but little of it was offered freely. Shame as I am sure if he was not on his phone all day with other customers it would have been much better.

Excellent city tour. The guide was friendly and very informative. Picked us up from the cruise terminal on time and in fact extended our tour slightly. Took us down tiny side roads so that we could appreciate the history of the place rather than just being on the main roads. Would highly recommend this tour company.

We booked our tour via P&O cruises while travelling on Iona. We had the best time with our very knowledgeable and lovely guide/driver Dannila. Well worth the money for this hour tour and so much fun

An enjoyable morning tour around Funchal with our guide/driver Leonor driving up and down some very steep hills and definitely seeing places we wouldn't have found ourselves. Leonor was a lovely guide pointing out interesting places and local history.

My husband and I had a great time with Daniella. She created a fun, quirky environment. The many “woohoo!” Moments going down the streets in the tukxi and the many stops were beautiful to take in. The city tour was an excellent way to get oriented to the different neighborhoods of Funchal and determine a few places that we wanted to come back to during our stay. Our guide was informative and offered suggestions for more unique and less touristy opportunities. I highly recommend and suggest booking for the first day of your Madeira trip.

To ease us into our 5 day trip to Madeira we booked the 90 minute Funchal tour. We were picked up by our driver Gonzalo from our hotel and then driven around the streets of Funchal. Our driver spoke perfect English and was very attentive and helpful and described everything we were passing to us. This is an excellent way to see the town without having to walk. The tuk-tuk can get into places where tour buses etc could never go and the tour took us up to the fort at the top and also into newer parts of the town which showed the contrast with the old town where we were staying. I would recommend Tukxi to anybody who wants a great introduction to Funchal. If I come back I would take one of their longer tours.

It was as enjoyable as expected following an identical one in Dubrovnic. The lady guide was a superb driver guiding this little vehicle around, over, and through any apparent hazard that Funchal's steep and narrow streets presented. We had already visited sea level Funchal, so she took us up to the interesting areas and memorable views behind the main town as well as time for a coffee at a nearby idyllic village harbour. Although it was scheduled at 90 minutes, the return to our hotel was just under two hours. Wonderful!

Funchal Tuk Tuk Tour. This was an excellent, very personalised tour of the town and surrounding area. My wife and I were very impressed with our driver, Davide, who had good local knowledge and was able to manipulate the Tuk Tuk through very narrow streets that the big tour buses could not go (and would have been to far to walk about). At the end of the tour, rather than just drop us off back at the port, Davide kindly let us out near the main town square and orientated us so we could explore further. I would recommend this excursion to experience Funchal from a different transport perspective

Lovely tour round the city with Thiago. He was very knowledgeable and took us to places we had never been to before. Very courteous and kind. Very helpful for my friends who are mobility challenged. Great trip and excellent value for money.

The tour was entertaining and the driver/guide was good. However the cost appeared to be expensive at €60 for 2 people for 90 minutes. We were advised that this was a standard cost for a 3 person vehicle even though there was only two of us. When the vehicle arrived it had only 2 seats. I did rise this with the travel rep who said the pricing is a bit ambiguous!

Booked 3 Tuks for a party of 12. Arrived on time. 3 excellent guides/drivers. Pedro, Margarida and/or Rodriguez/Gonzales? (Apologies young man .....I'm not too certain......but you too we're excellent and we thank you) A most informative tour of the most interseting and exciting parts of Funchal City. This trio are highly recommended..

Tuktaxi was better than climbing onto a hop on hop off bus. Driver picked us up and dropped us off right at the pier and was right on schedule

Good communication with the company. Tour was fun and we got to see a good portion of the island. We did end up paying for an additional 90 minutes that we said was ok at the beginning of the tour, but it's cash (Euros) only! I would recommend this tour!
