Popular walk which requires you to walk through small tunnels with only your phone or torch light. Uneven path with roots and stones and as end of walk was closed it became a two way route. Passing on narrow walls made it slow going in convoys. That said, it was a stunning walk with the reward of a waterfall at the end.

Transfer worked very well - pick up at start and end was on time, the driver was friendly and informative. I would use Get to Hike again. The hike itself is quite a long one (over 16k with the final walk required for pick up) but was lovely at all stages. At points some of the views are excellent and you realise how high you are and how steep the drops are - but always feel safe. The only downside was that it was a busy hike and had lots of narrow parts and tunnels with some waiting for queues of people to pass.
A must do hike if you’re in Madeira. Our guide Cristiano was so kind and gave very clear instructions - would highly recommend!
We really enjoyed the trip. Our driver was very friendly and we enjoyed the ride to and from the trail. PR9 is a beautiful levada walk with amazing scenery, although it was surprisingly crowded even on a very rainy day.
Trail was an experience, highly recommend it! Changes to the pick-up schedule very late and all confusing instruction send by email was not so great. Also pick-up car broke down on the way up and we needed to hike to the start. It was ok (obviously) but the request to compensate was rejected due to having a taxi for return trip! How is that the partisipants fault? All the people met during the trip were great.
The transfer to the PR9 hike was overall very good. Cristiano was running a bit late at the start, but it wasn’t an issue at all, as the time was made up by giving us extra time on the hike. After picking up a few other guests, we drove straight to the beginning of the PR9 trail. Cristiano was very helpful. He explained everything clearly and shared useful tips before we started, which made the whole experience smoother. Because the road gets extremely crowded in the afternoon, the plan was to pick us up at the end of the PR9.1 trail, which is considered one of the easiest trails on the island. The PR9 itself is also very easy overall, especially for anyone who is active or does sports regularly. The views along the trail are absolutely unreal, and the highlight is a stunning waterfall about 100 meters long, ending in a small pond, definitely worth the hike. The path is quite narrow, so you’ll often have to squeeze past others, almost like playing twister, but those interactions actually make the experience more fun. The only real “challenge” are the four tunnels along the route. The longest one is around 200 meters, and you definitely need to watch your head while passing through. Good hiking shoes are highly recommended, as the path can be rocky and uneven in places. All in all, it was a great experience, easy, scenic, and well organised. I can definitely recommend it.
All good, on time, answered all questions, helped with directions. Thank you!
Logan was very accommodating and helpful! We were not able to do the walk we booked due to trail being closed. They helped us get tickets for new hike. Miguel our driver was great!(tripadvisor was no help)
Very good driver, very nice, gave a lot of informations and good advice. Really enjoyed it. 👍🏻
Nice levada but in the dense forest, so there were very few view points. Do It Madeira did a good job organizing the hike.
It was a very nice & special hike. The transfer was well organised and our driver Nuno was very easy-going and provided us with a lot of interesting information along the way.
The transfer gave us more than enough time to finish the hike (round trip). Our driver Diogo is super nice and we felt safe during our commute. The trail itself offers stunning view and unique trail and tunnels. We really enjoyed it!
A fantastic trip. Well organised with really good communication in the run up. Our driver Nuno was punctual, friendly and professional and gave us good information about the hikes as well as general information about the island. This out and back PR9 hike was brilliant and the rain on the way out did not dampen our enjoyment. The flora and fauna was incredible and it felt like hiking through a jungle. The weather cleared in the way back revealing incredible views. The pathways are narrow in places with big drops to one side. Despite being one of the more popular levada walks we didn’t find it too crowded or difficult to pass people hiking in the other direction. This was one of our favourite hikes. We would highly recommend.
Diogo was a fantastic driver and had an excellent playlist throughout the drive. The hike was quite easy and the views of the waterfall at the end were breathtaking. I feel the time allotted for the hike was at least an hour too long as all our group was at the meeting point at least 30-45 minutes early. Overall, the experience was great and we enjoyed the transfer to the hike.
Great comms from the tour company with pick-up and itinerary details. Driver (Diogo) was also excellent. The walk itself is relatively easy (long but flat) and the views stunning. The narrow walkways and tunnels when meeting people coming the other way are actually lots of fun!
Great hike but tour doesn’t tell you that the pick up spot was an extra mile hike. After we already hiked 10 mikes so it’s 11 miles total. Would have been good to know in advance. Nice hike to caldera though.
Excellent suggestion by other guide, this was a great way to see some of what Madeira has to offer. A mixture of lovely views, tunnels and waterfalls. Our driver Nuno was great, friendly and happy to answer our queries. He gave us all the info we needed and explained it clearly so we left feeling confident and excited! Plenty of time given to enjoy the walk without feeling rushed and without feeling like you wasted time waiting to be collected. You will have to navigate narrow paths with oncoming walkers but it’s manageable. You will get muddy and you’ll need charge on your phone/headtorch for a light through the tunnels. It’s a max elevation of 100m, the path is uneven and narrow in places with low ceilings in some of the tunnels too. The cafe is very reasonable with plenty of seating. You need cash for the cafe and toilets, €0.50 coins only. Payment for the hike (€3) is card or cash. I recommend the self guided hike as you can’t really get lost on this route and it had a bit of everything.
Really good experience and great value for money! Driver Nuno was very friendly and punctual with lots of knowledge around the local area. Walk was lovely with lots of beautiful waterfalls and views. Trail was flat and really nice to walk along the Levada with some tunnels and viewpoints throughout. Some low headroom points and narrow paths if you’re scared of heights! Fantastic experience
Fantastic experience with a great driver/ guide in a well maintained vehicle. The walk was explained to us at the start and we had a good amount of time to complete it allowing for plenty of stops. The walk itself was stunning and mostly completely flat, with some areas where it is quite narrow. There are also abfew low tunnels to walk through which added to the experience. The path has only recently reopened following landslides but was safe under foot having been repaired. We really enjoyed the walk, the scenery was stunning.
The tour operator contacted us the day before our trip explaining the planned Levado route was closed and suggested 2 alternatives. We took the high mountain PR6 (25 Fountains) route and had a great day out. It's an undulating 7 mile walk around 3,800-4,400 feet high . Most of the walk is flat. Henrique was a friendly driver and chatted about Madeira to expand our knowledge as this was our first visit to the island. Reasonable walking shoes are needed - we had great weather so didn't need a jacket but obviously it can be changeable at that height. Small minibus for transport with efficient pick up and drop off points at hotels, you need 50cent coins for toilets at cafe near start of route, and a 3 euro visitor charge (payable online) helps maintain the paths etc. The path was quite busy at times and narrow in places but had no open steep drops alongside so comfortable walking with woodland and also mountain views. Waterfalls at end are a lovely spot for a picnic so its busy as everyone takes time to enjoy the setting.
The service was exactly what we wanted. Simple transport to/from to our hike without having to worry about renting a car or find parking! Our driver Pedro was great and provided lots of information about the island for restaurants, where to avoid tourist traps. Highly recommend to use them if the above sounds great to you.
Friendly driver, no problems with pickup/drop off, lots of time to complete the walk. Would recommend.
Beautiful views and friendly helpful guide. The biggest minus was that there was not enough time (5.5h) to enjoy views or have a rest stop in the end (had 15min). Ran through the route...
Great trek, this is a flatish trek around the mountain with great views over the canyon and some waterfalls. You walk through 4 tunnels, which is also a great experience. Your shoes will get muddy as the ground is slightly wet especially in the tunnels. The driver was very jovial and made the ride pleasant. Would highly recommend this trek.
Great Hike and unique hike, very much unlike any found in the UK. Pedro was super knowledgeable about the island, he really added to the whole experience!
The forest and scenery is beautiful! Personally I preferred the 25 Fontes and Risco waterfalls but the Caldeirão Verde waterfall is still pretty (just felt more crowded). If you are a bit anxious about heights just be mindful the last little stretch might make you a bit nervous (worth pushing through though). When it gets busy the paths are tight so letting people past is tricky. Luis was awesome at giving us insights to from the hike.
From point of booking and payment everything was flawless. Pick up was on time and smooth. The vehicle was clean and comfortable. Communication was excellent. Everything it says online will happen happened and we even got an extra little stop that we weren’t expecting. 100% recommend. Also, worth noting: Not that I needed to cancel but I noticed that had a more than reasonable cancel policy which no other transfer provider I could find offered.
This was a great walk, you are in the shade a lot of the way so take some layers. Great communication from the company before the trip confirming pick up times and they were promptly there. The time given was probably too long and it could have been shortened by at least 39 mins if not more. There is a cafe at the beginning but no where to sit inside so if it’s raining you will be waiting for your driver. Wasn’t too bad for us as the sun was out. I would recommend the trip
The tour guide Philip was the best—he’s a really nice person and he gives you many tips for the rest of your stay in Madeira. The hike is absolutely beautiful. The pickup was on time and comfortable, and we were additionally taken to a beautiful lookout point. Personally, I think 6 hours might be better than 5.5 to hike, for those who don’t walk as fast. But in general it was very good. One note would be the pickup information can be distributed a bit better: it’s sent through WhatsApp the night before with a download link and the whole message looks like spam so we deleted it. I also asked about whether food will be provided or should we bring our own provisions (yes!) and never got an answer. But there is a cafe at the park parking lot where you can buy food and water.
It was an amazing day! Pick-up was on time and we received information beforehand about what to expect. The driver, philipe, was very nice and had lots of nice information. We had 5.5 hours to complete the hike which was plenty of time. It's absolutely beautiful and I recommend it! During the hike we got a message asking if everything was going right so they could check up on us. Afterwards we got philipe's recommendations send to us over whatsapp so we could look them up later. NOTE: You can swim at the end. Bring swimming clothes and a towel in case you want to do so
Well in accordance with the description. Comfortable transfer at the time and place indicated. The driver provides the necessary information for the PR9 hike. Just a shame that it is so crowded in the month of August.
It was a really nice trip, easy and beautiful route. Can be done in running shoes in good weather. You have to count on many people on the route, and you have to be ready on narrow paths where you have to make room for passers by. We had little time, so there was limited time for the break and we had to hurry up to reach the agreed pickup time. We were leaving from 9:30-14:45, and could easily have spent 1.5 hours more, to have time to enjoy the view more. Please note that the tour is not guided, but that you get driving and explanation of the route. The route is easy, so it is easy to find.
Super friendly driver (André) with whom you could have a good conversation. Everything important was given to you in advance and all in one everything went great. Clear recommendation and gladly again👍
Was a great hike, despite heavy rain in between. Also the guide, Adriana, was super nice and told many interesting things.
Very nice path, the path is mostly flat, hardly stairs, but sometimes narrow. You shouldn't be afraid of heights.
We did 4 hikes with Do it Madeira. Everything is super organized and the staff are very nice. You get all important information in advance via WhatsApp, you are picked up from the hotel and taken to the starting point of the hike. There the route is explained. You have enough time for photos and breaks and the pick-up takes place at the destination. All tours were beautiful. Since the main trails are busy, I recommend the very early tours.
Very nice walk, little height differences, still watch out with walking, of course no even ground. Too bad you have to walk up and down and no going around. Is sometimes very narrow especially with oncoming traffic. Nature was very beautiful, expected to encounter a monkey or so at every corner. Go early in the day, especially if you are going by car yourself. The road to it is also narrow and with oncoming traffic I think it is quite manoeuvring. We were brought up with a small van and after the hike from the parking lot walked down about 1.5 km pr Joel. And there was the van waiting for us. There was also a parking lot there. Fine day
We recommend this company 100%. Everything went perfectly. Super friendly staff who are also very helpful. Even after the activity I could call the company with questions.
