Pr6 & Pr6.1 25 Fontes & Risco Levada Self-guided Hiking Rabaçal

We thoroughly enjoyed our morning. Henrique was both an excellent driver and guide. He told us everything we needed to know for our hike. On the journey home we learned loads about the history of Levada's and Henrique answered all our questions and gave us advise for the rest of our trip. Highly recommend.

We started early which we liked because there was no one at the 25 Fontes. Our guide gave us great directions.

The company communicates promptly and the transfer was on time. The walk is lovely but bad weather affects the view and can be slippery. Morning is best to avoid crowds, but take a flashlight for the start. Lots of steps and some steep inclines.

Fun trip - enjoyed it and would recommend 👍 Well worth the time and money. One of the best levadas to hike.

Very professional the early start was well worth beating the crowds we were the first at the waterfalls and it was beautiful. When we left the carpark was completely full and very busy.

Lots of stairs! Very busy hike. I would almost say an earlier pick up time would be even better if you really want to experience the waterfall without crowds. Our driver Diogo was very nice and knowledgeable and punctual.

We really enjoyed this trip. PR6 is a beautiful, lush and green trail, although it does get a bit more crowded around midday. Our driver was very friendly, and we had plenty of time to comfortably complete both PR6 and PR6.1 without feeling rushed.

Diogo excellent .. punctual collection, assured driving, gave sensible expectations for the walk. Helped us arrange the hiking permits. A very enjoyable day.

It was great idea to start early we ended up having the entire trail to ourselves. It was great for having the waterfalls to ourselves for pics.

Hike was great, driver was great however the whole tour could be a hour less. We were nearly 3 hours waiting around for the driver yo collect the group

Great value for money lovely guide

Filipe was a great driver, very safe, and very friendly. He explained the walk to us at the start very well and met us back at the starting point for pick up, giving a good amount of time to see all the parts of the walk and stop for a drink. He also suggested a little view up a slight hill which was brilliant. The walk itself was easy enough to just follow the signs, take water and snacks as you will need the energy for the uphill climb back. But a beautiful walk.

Pedro was excellent, friendly, talked about the island. Highly recommend. There was enough time from drop off to hike both and pick up. He gave good advice.

The trip to the start of the hike was smooth and we got clear instructions from our driver Diago on how to begin the walk and the plan for pick up. He was really friendly and punctual. Great communication throughout the whole process!The hike itself was so beautiful despite zillions of steps! Would use this company again.

Hike was really enjoyable. Lots of stairs (unsurprisingly) but that’s par for the course here. I personally enjoyed the view at PR6.1 more. Pick up was prompt and Pedro gave us lots of information and also lots of food recommendations on the way back.

Its a nice hike but can get seriously crowded. I therefore recommend to go as early as possible.

Lovely hike. Loads of stairs and going up - going down. Would recommend hiking before. Also: when you reach the waterfalls take enough pics it’s something else

At first, I wasn't so excited about getting up at 5am to do this hike but it turned out to be a great call! This hike is very popular, and we could see the crowds building up when we were leaving. To be there when there were few others on the trail was very enjoyable. And don't skip the Risco waterfall - I actually thought it was more impressive than the 25 Fountains. Also, make sure to have a raincoat. Clouds can get stuck in the mountains, making the weather a bit unpredictable--but don't let it stop you!

Picked up on time. Driver gave useful information about the hike while on the way to the hike site and once we got there. Clean comfortable vehicle. Would definitely recommend

Henrique was friendly, helpful and gave us a lot of information about the island, as well as useful guidance about the walk(s) and he was punctual. The walk itself was really nice, highly recommend.

We opted for the 6am pickup and it was so worth it! Hardly anyone on the trails and shared the waterfall views with just a handful of others. We really enjoyed being able to go at our own pace and take everything in on this hike. Others in our group were finished very early but we took our time. Driver was prompt and service was just as described. When we got to the parking lot for drop off the driver got out and explained the map at the trail head to us, advised us to do the 25 fontes hike first before the crowds, gave great options and instructions on which routes to take back. The cafe is a 30-45 min walk from the parking lot, and doesn’t open until 10 or 11. The only restrooms are at the cafe. The driver stopped at a gas station to let us use the restroom before we got to the drop off area since we were arriving before the cafe opened. Weather was cooler, but just fine with a rain jacket once you were moving. Light mist at times and sun broke through the clouds a few times. There is no flat! It’s all either downhill or uphill, or down stairs or up stairs! Wear trail runners or hiking boots. Wet and muddy! We stopped for coffee and quiche at the cafe on the way back. Lovely cafe amid beautiful scenery. A little more pricey than other cafes in Funchal. Driver was already waiting for us 15 mins early, when we arrived at the pick up area

Convenient and efficient transfer to Rabaçal and back with hotel pick-up. The van was convenient and driver provided good information about the logictics of completing the levada walk. Early enough to miss the crowds. 5 hours to complete the hike. There was plenty of time for both 6 and 6.1 levadas. For fast walkers it is possible to do parts of 6.2 and 6.3 as well.

Good follow up from the office before and during our stay there. Try to improve the updates about the paths ( PR) if they're open or not and if they need entrance fees or not. Great trip, Henrique was very knowledgeable, courteous and encouraging and a great driver. So glad we did the early start ( and the minibus back to the car park - well worth the 5€).

We had read about the walks and wa something that we wanted to. However we weren't confident enough for the car hire and drive. This was the best way for us and it over delivered. Up front info and list of things we needed. Pick up was bang on time, our drive Henrique was really informative, gave us good invite into the hike. Arrived at the park at sunrise, which was great in itself. We had the early time which was really good, we had the walk to ourselves and another couple. We spent 30 mins at 25 fontes waterfall in complete peace. We passed several people on our way back, it's a slow walk back as we are not yhe fastest up hill. The cafe was a great stop and we sat on the inside balcony with the little birds and the fab views. The road walk to the top is a killer but part of the fun. If you get a chance cross the road and go the other side, the views above the clouds ate fab. Pick up was again spot on time . The drive back allowed us to see more as light. Don't normally leave reviews but this team helped us have a great adventure. Thank you to everyone, we would really recommend and will use again the next time we are in Maderia.

I hate to leave this review but we bought this under the pretext that we were to be picked up from the hotel. After the booking we were sent a plethera of emails from Tripadvisor, one with a link to where we were to WALK from the hotel to the pick up point. According to the google maps link, the walk was 11 minutes away which just was not possible for us so we never got to go and tripadvisor refused to refund us saying the driver was in the right place we were not. I accept we were not in the right place but we bought the tour ONLY because we were told it was a hotel pick up. TOP ADVISE, when in maderia go directly to the company hosting the experience, they WILL collect you from your hotel lobby. I am sorry if this review affects the host in any way, this is solely terrible managament from tripadvsior.

Even though we had some rain whilst walking, it didn’t stop us enjoying the activity. Easy to follow route and there really is no need to have a guided tour. It was nice to be able to walk at our own pace. There are a lot of steps, which can be abit slippery when wet, so sturdy, waterproof footwear is essential. A bonus of seeing the waterfalls when it has rained, is that they are more spectacular and the levadas were full too.

Nice and straight forward self guided tour. We were picked up spot on time, Diogo was a good driver and answered our questions patiently. He took us to the starting point at the parking lot and explained the trail. Though the weather wasn't ideal, the trail itself was very beautiful and worth it even in the rain. We didn't go at 6 am even though most of reviews here recommend it, but it wasn't very crowded (I guess partially due to weather and time of year) Overall, a lovely experience which we will recommend to others.

This was a great hike with beautiful surroundings. It wasn't too difficult, although there were some stairs and hills to climb here and there. But all in all, an easy hike to do with gorgeous scenery to enjoy. We also had a fantastic tour driver Adriana who picked us up on time, gave us lots of good information before the hike and then dropped us off smoothly. I also had the opportunity to learn lots of fun and fascinating facts about Madeira from her that made me understand this beautiful island even better, and I really appreciate that. Definitely doing more tours with doit-madeira when we come back!

Very friendly driver who gave us good tips for the hike. He was right on time. The hike itself was very beautiful. I choosed the early departure and was very happy with my choice. We were the only persons starting the hike that early, while coming back we noticed the parking place was so crowded. One thing I didnt like. After I made the booking the company confirmed and told me the details of the trip would be send to me the day before the hike, maximum 6 pm. However the details were send to me at 10 pm instead. By that time I was already asleep, because the hike started at 6 am in the morning. I went to sleep pretty nervous, because of not getting any reaction from the company.

Fantastic hike. Christiano a good driver/guide. We started at the top of Rabacal 25 Fontes, walked by the waterways, enjoyed the vegetation, wonderful weather and scenery.

Adrianna gave us a good briefing for our hike. She was really friendly and gave us lots of information about life in Madeira, lots of local info, I learned a lot as well as had a good hike. The 6am start is worth it even just to avoid the crowds and the heat. Flashlight is needed if starting at 6am other than that, it's an easy enough hike, lots of steps. There's a lovely cafe at the end with delicious cakes and Adrianna was not late picking us up.

Transfer to and from - 25 Fontes Self Guided Lavada Walk. Driver on Time. Provided concise information regarding the Levada walk. This is an early morning walk pick up is 6am which I highly recommend - avoid the crowds and heat. Very enjoyable walk easy/moderate depending on your fitness. Easy well signed trail. Having an early start meant we avoided the crowds and was able to enjoy an extremely peaceful walk to the 25 Fontes and enjoy the splendour of the forest has the sun rises. Tip - warm and water proof clothing for the early morning start - bring a touch (or phone torch as we did)

Great communication about meeting times, location map, weather info, essentials etc punctual informative driver. Had plenty of time to do the 2 walks enjoyable day out.

Fantastic driver who shared a lot of info about the island during the transfers. Communication was crystal clear regarding the trails and drop off/pick up. This was so much less stressful than driving and trying to get parking. Highly recommend for such a popular destination.

Great experience, Adriana the driver was very nice. I would recommend doing the 6 am hike to have the levada for yourself in the early hours !

I chose to be picked-up at 6 A.M. and this is worth strong recommendation. Our driver, Pedro was very helpful. Instructed whole group about the hike. Starting as early is an absolute banger. You start when it is still dark, there are no people beside your small group, and while the sun is coming up, you follow this beautiful trail reaching the final point as the first ones during the day. You can go to two other PRs, what makes the tour even better. I highly recommend the tour, unbelivable experience.

Take your swimwear 😉go early as it gets really busy later on in the day, take some change for the toilet

Great trail. Definitely is good to go early and have it mainly all to yourself. Any later and the place starts to get packed. Be prepared for the weather. Raincoat and good walking shows with grips. Plenty of time to see everything. A lot of steps and down hill and then uphill. Adriana was excellent. She gave us loads of information and showed us extra beautiful areas on the drive back. Highly recommend.

Everything was as described, information and travel arrangements by the company were clear and on time, some parts of the walk were very steep but plenty of time to finish.

Such a lovely day! The weather was absolutely perfect, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The 25 Fontes and Risco hike is a nice, easy trail that offers incredible views along the way. The waterfalls are beautiful and definitely worth the walk. I highly recommend coming early to beat the rush, as it can get quite busy later in the day. If you have spare time (and energy!), you can easily add another hike. Overall, a peaceful and scenic adventure!

We had a great visit to PR6/6.1 starting with a prompt and friendly pickup from Adriana - our transfer driver. Adriana was polite and shared some great knowledge of Madeira whilst taking us to Rabaçal to start our hike. We felt safe with Adriana’s driving and wouldn’t hesitate to book a transfer for a PR6 hike with ‘Do It Madeira’.

Gorgeous walk to see the waterfalls and Levadas. Is busy in some places as expected but have times where you are the only ones on the trail. Adriana our driver was amazing, very punctual and knowledgable about Madeira, shared many interesting facts with us and even took us a different way back to show us parts of the island. Definitely recommend.
