Helped with buying the correct walking permit. Picked up on time and gave us advice about the walk and clear instructions. Hassle free and a reliable way to do the one way PR1 and 1.2 walk.

They were great! Very friendly and informative. Prepared us for everything the only thing not mentioned is they give you 5hrs to complete which is way too long even for beginners.
Apart from our driver, Pedro, I did not have a good experience with this company. I booked a week in advance with a pickup confirmed for Machico. 12 hours before the tour they told me that a Machico pickup was not possible and that we could not cancel as it was within 24 hours of the tour start time.
Booked the PR1 tour but unfortunately part of the route was closed due to maintenance but we still managed to do the stairway to heaven, which was breathtaking. Viator then gave us the option to do the PR3 down the mountain. Really lovely walk. Cloud started to come in but still very good walk. Well organised and our driver Marco was amazing. Will come back to Madeira again to complete the PR1.
My flight was diverted due to the strong winds, so I reached Madeira a day later than initially intended. Unfortunately, I had a hiking trip booked the next day after I was initially supposed to come. So I had to cancel my booking, but I asked them to reschedule instead of cancelling. They just wrote they can not reschedule, because they are fully booked. But didn't even bother to ask me, how long I was staying in Madeira (which was a week). They were fully booked for a week? Really doubt that. More likely, they just took the opportunity to take free money (because the cancelation was too late to claim the refund) and just give my place to someone else. Was it worth it, "Do it Madeira"? I have booked with another company and will leave them a great review.
We had an excellent experience with this company for our PR1 hike transfer. Marco, our driver, was professional, friendly, and very reliable. He provided clear instructions before the hike, making sure we knew exactly where to go and what to expect. We were given 5 hours to complete the hike, which was more than enough time for us to enjoy the trail at a comfortable pace and still have lunch at the café before pickup. Everything was very well organized, and the timing worked perfectly. Communication from the company was outstanding throughout the entire process—prompt, efficient, and very helpful. We especially appreciated their assistance with purchasing our PR1 admission tickets, which made the experience completely stress-free. Overall, the service was reliable, professional, and exceeded our expectations. We would definitely use this company again and highly recommend them to anyone planning to hike PR1 in Madeira.
Pedro was fantastic and made the whole experience seamless from start to finish. He was incredibly personable, shared so much knowledge about the area, and did an excellent job explaining the PR1 route and what to expect before we started. He also went above and beyond when he noticed I had accidentally booked the wrong hiking tax ticket and worked with his tour operator (thank you Julie and Logan!) during the drive up to help get it corrected, which I really appreciated. The hike itself was absolutely amazing and there’s plenty of time to complete it at a comfortable pace and still stop for a coffee or food at the shop at the end. I’d recommend bringing plenty of water and some coins if you plan to use the restroom near the end of the hike. I’d highly recommend booking this transfer. The parking lots were extremely full and we heard from other travelers that taxis back were very expensive, so this ended up being such an easy and stress-free option. Thanks again!
Great Transfer! Driver was very informative and gave us wonderful instructions about the hike. Made the whole hike very easy.
We were picked up exactly at the promised time by Marco. He was very helpful and kind. He told everything about Madeira and gave extra tips to visit. The hike it selves is very beautiful and all the way to Ruivo is intensive but duable if you are fit. Only the knees and feet you feel at the end but worthwhile to do this. Would recommend this to everyone! And good news the company can also arrange the tax tickets for you. Then you know you have the right ones as many booked the wrong tickets. And we had the whole day good weather where Funchal was clouded all day.
Amazing above the cloud experience, a lasting memory experience. Completed comfortably in 3.5 hours cafe break near the top and breathtaking views, lots of long tunnels!
Our driver was wonderful and enthusiastic, giving us lots of tips for future hikes. The downside was that PR1 was not open fully and we had to do PR1.3, which was not a hike we would have picked. Just not the views we were hoping for. The tour operators do not know if the full hike is open or not until they get there which seems to be that the Government does not communicate this well. The small fraction we got to do was a magical experience.
The guide was timely and very friendly! He gave us great direction and I would book another tour with them in the future
I had a great experience doing this hike. It was well organised and our driver was super friendly and provided us with a lot of interesting information on Madeira. As it was quite windy and thus also cold, I would recommend to bring warm clothes. At the end of the hike, there is a nice café and the visitor centre that gives you more information on the Parque Ecológico.
Very prompt pick up by Diago. He gave clear instructions for the hike and collection point. Very good driver and friendly.
Brilliant ! Best thing I have done in Madeira so far even though most of the PR 1 was closed the remaining small section was breathtaking and the planned PR 3 instead was great fun with fantastic views. The group made this day special though and we all had a fun day out and made friends. Thanks for organising Jessica and to Diogo who gave us great tips especially the food stop with great food and amazing local poncho. I wish they were doing more different routes I would have booked without hesitation !
Absolutely amazing experience! From meeting our driver, Nuno, on the morning of the hike, (most charismatic and friendliest driver, made our trip ten times better) to the breathtaking views of Pico do Arieiro and the delicious food (beef stake sandwich with a side of Madeira’s traditional drink ‘Poncha’) at the lovely cafe awaiting at Funchal’s Ecological Park, I personally, could not recommend booking this trip more! One thing to keep in mind is PR1 and PR3 trails included in this trip are for people with relatively good fitness levels, as you get a meeting time set before you begin your self-guided hike. Although, we did get quite lucky with the weather in January, PR3 tends to be more wet and full of slippery rocks and steps so bring your best non-slip, waterproof trainers/boots.
My group of 5 were keen to go on the PR1 trail, which starts at Pico Arieiro, passes Pico Ruivo and ends at Achada do Teixeira. The driver, Filipe, was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the island, its laws, the best hikes (PR1, PR6 and PR8), best places to visit and eat. The entire group were thoroughly enthused by Filipe's knowledge and love of the lsland. The pick-up point was agreed in advance as was the time--the group left Funchal at 08:10, which meant that they arrived at Pico Arieiro before the tour buses. Even if you are fit, doing part of the trail in blazing sun can be challenging. It is well worth doing this hike but I would fully recommend taking water, a head lamp and snacks with you. It took 3 hours to hike from Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo. We rested a bit at the base of Pico Ruivo and bought some cans of drink from the kiosk. It took 15 minutes from the kiosk to climb to the top of Pico Ruivo. The walk to Achada do Teixeira took longer than expected, but there was a decent cafe near the car park. We took up Filipe's suggestion of ordering a passion fruit cheesecake and beer, which was the right thing to do after such a challenging hike. We met Felipe at the car park ~14:30. He gave us 5 hours to complete the one-way hike, which was was more than sufficient. Thank you Felipe for a great day out!
We can definitely recommend 'do it madeira'. Communication was reliable and quick. The organization and pickup was good. The driver was very nice and gave some tips about the island. The times were kept perfectly.
Sadly we were not able to do the PR 1 because there was an orange alert in the area but Logan contacted me and told me other available options for hiking and we did the PR 9, it was great. Adriana was our driver and she gave us excellent recommendation and even took us to a beautiful viewpoint of the island as extra. Highly recommended!
Felipe was an excellent driver and host, very knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately the cloudy and rainy weather meant the hike was disappointing, but it means I will have to come back and do it again to get the amazing views!
Really great self transfer company- great communication on day, Adrianna the driver was punctual, gave lots of info and very nice to chat with, smooth running Pico to pico tour. Made the walk affordable and possible with no car hire. Had enough time to comfortably do walk and would recommend for other walks you can’t access without a car.
I recommend everyone to wear special shoes, because ordinary sports shoes are not suitable for this, because I experienced this myself and had a problem. When traveling with a guide, there is enough time to go from one point to another. Amazing views, interesting experiences and self-examination.You must to have water more than 1.5 liters
Views are amazing however the hike is quite challenging, especially for people that do not hike regularly. If you had any leg injuries it’s better to choose another, easier hike. When it comes to the tour operator it was awesome experience. The driver was on time, was very friendly, shared a lot of knowledge about the Madeira, it’s culture and gave us many tips regarding restaurants and other stuff. He even stopped on the way back to show us some great cliff views! 6/5 experience!
The trips was really good organized and we had plenty of time to do the hike. It was great and i woud recommend to do it
It was an extremely challenging hiking experience for me but I made it to the end. The drivers were amazing. He made you feel very safe and sound. He also introduced interesting facts about the island along the way to the mountain and back to our hotel. If you are not a hiking fan like me, I suggest you prepare in advance, climbing stairs up and down for practice and bring hiking poles. I don’t regret booking this trip but if I were to come again, I would probably choose to take PR 1.2 to the summit instead. Anyways, it was a once in a lifetime experience for me.
Well organised and efficient. Aside from a minor issue with the website when it came to book this transfer before our holiday, which was dealt with efficiently by Logan, I can very much recommend Do It Madeira. Communication before we arrived was good and as stated at the time of booking, I was contacted the day before with details of our pick up. Our driver was early to collect us, entertaining, knowledgeable and gave us some very useful information for the remainder of our stay. The walk itself was spectacular and certainly one to recommend and our pick up was on time and repeat of the drop off. Later that day, Logan sent through some restaurant recommendations for the rest of our stay. If you are happy to walk self guided (and this walk, PR1, is a very clearly marked path), Do It Madeira provide the ideal service. When we get chance to visit Madeira again, we will be using them again for another walk.
Hasten free trip. It’s well organised. I booked the trip two days before. The guide will contact you one day before departure. The driver Louis was funny and knowledgeable. They will recommend you some local restaurants, best place to eat and also airport midnight transfer. I cannot recommend this trip enough! In terms of view, it’s really breathtaking! Not too long. I personally think it’s very doable. If you don’t stop it will take only 2-3 hours to complete the whole trail. BUT the view was stunning!! Please stop as long as you want!
Fantastic drive to and from Madeira’s highest mountains from Filipe, who was a friendly and hugely informative tour guide. He picked me up punctually from my accommodation and spoke perfect English. On the way back, he drove us through Santana, where we stopped at an historical Madeiran thatched house and enjoyed a quick drink with the owner. The whole booking was coordinated efficiently with Logan on WhatsApp, who even sent us restaurant recommendations after the transfer was over. When I return to Madeira, I’ll definitely use this service again.
We booked this transfer last minute and we are so glad we did! Our driver was very knowledgeable and punctual- he picked us up on time both from our hotel and from the end of the hike. He made a stop at one of the typical Madiera homes on the way back which was really fun. He was also quite entertaining and talkative, making the ride more fun. Highly recommend!
It all went as planned and luis was good at guiding us before the hike and answering questions about the hike. He also took us to santana on they way back. If you are hiking pico ruivo and need a transfer I definitely can recommend this one 👌🏽
Really enjoyed the self guided aspect, you have 5 hours to complete the trail which is plenty of time to take lots of tests and photos. Can also wait at the cafe at the end if you arrive early. Hike itself is beautiful though extremely busy, often having to queue up behind one another. Lots of steps but doable with moderate fitness. Great communication with the company. Highly recommend
Other than the wild weather, our driver Luis was amazing would definitely book with these guys again ☺️
This self-guided tour is unique and fits me very well! I attended a guided tour from another company, which rushed me from the beginning to the end! I didn't have time to take photos. This self-guided tour is well planned and gives enough info/time! The driver/guide Filipe was super nice and funny, who picked up punctually, gave detailed information about the trip and the island. Logan, the coordinator, was very responsible and communicated through each steps! She was reachable all the time of the walk! The trail (PR1) is the number 1 hiking trail on the island which is breathtaking. Book this tour which is very worthy! (I also did the 25 Fontes tour from this company.)
Highly recommend this for doing the Pico do Ariero to Pico Ruvio hike! Our driver Luis was awesome. So friendly, funny and knowledgeable. After picking us up at the Achada do Texiera end stop, he even took us to a traditional Santana house on the way back to our lodging. This tour exceeded our expectations, mostly because of how great Luis made it!
We had a great time. Driver, Mr Luis has a grat knowledge about the island. We also liked the communication with Logan, who explained everything very well about our pick up times, weather forecasts etc. I would really recommend this company.
Our driver Filipe was very knowledgeable about Funchal, Madeira and of course the hiking part. lots of information on our trip to the starting point. And lots of useful information from their office, where Logan was providing detailed information about the departure and - during the hike - was available in case anything happens. The transfer was on time, the bus was nice and clean, the driving was very thoughtful; one word: perfect! Thanks a lot, all of you guys!
This is a fabulous hike and one I would highly recommend (with Do it Madeira) - especially if you're lucky enough to get good weather, which we did:). Filipe is a knowledgeable and energetic guide with a passion for Madeira - we came away with lots of info and some great tips for great places to eat and other trips. The company, Do it Madeira really pull out all the stops to make this an enjoyable venture! The path is safe and well-maintained and despite my vertigo, I was able to handle the spectacular scenery and shear, vertical drops (safely within the guide ropes)! The Sun Rise was unbelievably good - today it rose above the clouds and created a spectrum of colour. Out photos are fabulous! The path is hard where the path rises to the top of Pico do Ruiva but there is a timely cafe stop here and another at the end of the walk - perfect for rehydrating and restoring energy. This trip is a must-do for anyone who enjoys mountain scenery, and can handle a moderate amount of challenging hillwalking.
It was my 2. Tour with Do it Madeira and it was top organized again. Also the driver was again super nice and had important hints and tips. The short hike up the mountain is of course spectacular. Unfortunately, the complete route is still closed, so we went back down the valley via the PR3. I also liked this hike very much.
