We had an amazing experience with Madeira Electric Tours. It was an excellent way to get to know the island and see some of its most beautiful locations in just one day. Our guide, Roberto, was fantastic. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Madeira, its history, nature, and especially its flowers and plants. You can tell he is passionate about the island and enjoys sharing that knowledge with his guests. During the tour we visited Câmara de Lobos, Seixal, several stunning viewpoints on the west side of the island, and we also had plenty of time to enjoy the natural pools in Porto Moniz. Every stop was well chosen and offered spectacular scenery. The tour ran from around 10:00 to 17:30, and we were conveniently picked up and dropped off at our hotel in Funchal, which made everything very easy. The atmosphere throughout the day was great. Roberto was friendly, engaging, and easy to talk to, and we had many enjoyable conversations during the drive and at the different stops. We were also very lucky that some other guests cancelled, so it ended up being just the two of us, which made the experience feel even more personal and relaxed. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Madeira and looking for a fun, comfortable, and informative way to explore the island!

Roberto was very friendly and knowledgeable guide. He was passionate about the island and all its natural flora and forna. Every stop he took us to was interesting and picturesque. He let us do each attraction at our own pace and never rushed us or left us waiting around. He booked us lunch in a very nice restaurant and recommended great dishes and drinks. We had some complimentary wine tasting at a bar which was an added touch. The vehicle was fully electric and very comfortable which we appreciate the environmental aspect of this trip as well. We would recommend this tour to our family and friends without hesitation.

Roberto is a amazing guide. He has alot of knowledge about madeira and is able to provide information about everything we asked. What seperated this tour from the rest was the silent electric van. We where able to have a nice conversation without the need to yell. The van was in a great clean and comfortable condition. Roberto showed us the popular spots in madeira but more importantly showed us a few hidden gems. The whole tour we could do at our own pace staying longer and or shorter at certain spots, we never had to rush. To summarize it was a amazing experience! Kind regards Tim

The (west) Madeira tour was great! Our guide Roberto was amazing! He was very kind and was able to answer all of our questions which he answered in a very passionate way. He is capable of speaking multiple languages so the communication was very easy. The van he has was very modern, electric, comfortable and clean. After a great day out exploring the East side, we really looked forward to doing the West Coast tour with Roberto. We stopped for a great lunch at a cafe he pointed out, had a Madeira tasting and always managed to be ahead of the crowds. We travelled in great comfort with an excellent and knowledgeable driver.

Our guide, driver and co owner Roberto was very enthusiastic, thoughtful, knowledgeable and sensible, altering the itinerary depending on the weather conditions. The Mercedes people car was very comfortable and driven well. It was worth the expense of a more personal service and quality trip. I have no hesitation in recommending Madeira Electric Tours.

It’s always a gamble when you book a tour based solely on descriptions and reviews, but we are SO lucky we picked this one with Roberto and his tour company! He was by far one of the best guides we’ve had…ever! Born in South Africa, but Madeiran by heritage and blood, Roberto traveled the world then eventually settled in his native homeland. Amazing scenery and sights along the coast of Madeira, highlight is Porto Moniz and the viewing platform at Cabo Girão. Roberto is a really knowledgeable guide and made our trip so interesting. He couldn’t have done more. We were so glad we picked this trip over the traditional Jeep tour. Great views from the van and no possibility of being stuck in a rear seat facing inwards!

My partner and I had an amazing time going west with Roberto from Madeira Electric Tours. We visited some lovely spots around the island, and never felt rushed at any point. My aunt and I had a fantastic private tour of the West side of Maderia and our amazing guide Roberto certainly did not disappoint! From start to finish the day was packed with everything you could possibly wish to know about the island, with Roberto's knowledge being extremely extensive. Roberto's attention to detail is impeccable, prompt collection from where we were staying in an immaculate Mercedes electric people carrier. Roberto couldn't do enough for us, he drove us to various spots on the west coast including various fantastic viewpoints, little villages and waterfalls. The time he allowed for each stop was perfect and we didn't feel rushed and completely at ease. Roberto has a wonderful sense of humour and had us giggling all day, he has a clear and charming voice and speaks many languages, it is very apparent he has spent a long time educating himself not only of the amazing flora and forna of Maderia but the various cultures of his guests, making him so relatable. One of our last stops was a real, authentic 'Poncha' taverna on the sea front, where the wonderful owners welcomed us and we sampled some beautiful wines and ponchas. This was a truly magical, unforgettable day and the highlight of our holiday. This was one of the highlights of our Madeira trip. Roberto met us right in Funchal and took us on a beautifully paced journey along the west side of the island. What really sets this tour apart is the small group size and the electric van—comfortable, quiet, and a huge upgrade from being herded around in a 6–20 person bus. We had a fantastic tour with Robbie exploring the west side of the island. There were just two of us on the tour which allowed Robbie to make changes to the itinerary to suit our needs. The electric vehicle was super comfortable and superbly driven as we were shown hidden gems across the island. The best part though was Robbie himself who was a superb host with vast knowledge of the island that he shared with great enthusiasm. Overall an excellent tour. Would highly recommend.

We had an absolutely fantastic day with Robbie, full of fascinating facts, incredible views, great food and lots and lots of laughter. There were just two of us on the tour, but with a maximum of 7 guests, it would never feel rushed, crowded, or impersonal. Robbie was a sheer joy to spend the day with. he knows so much about the island, and gave us lots tips for enjoying our stay. I wasn't expecting the electric vehicle to make so much difference, but it really did - we glided silently around the roads which meant that there was no need to shout over the engine noise, and no diesel fumes. It was a true luxury experience. We had plenty of opportunity to tailor the day, and Robbie was keen to find out what sort of things we would enjoy doing to he could give us the best possible experience. So glad we took this tour with Robbie today. He was fun, informative, flexible and a really great driver (super quiet electric car). The Western tour took us to Porto Moniz & we were so glad we weren’t driving a hire car! Instead we were grateful for a relaxed ride over to the north coast of the island. I really enjoyed this tour, it was great to get more of a sense of the island and to see several different areas. Robbie was an excellent guide, his commentary was interesting and funny and his enthusiasm for the island and for the tours was evident. It was good to learn about the Madeiran way of life. He was very knowledgeable on all the plants and crops and made sure he pointed them out. I appreciated his suggestions for short walks and places to eat. It was one of the best tours I’ve been on, I highly recommend it and I hope to do the East side tour next visit.

Wow, what can I say! From start to finish, the tour was absolutely fantastic. Roberto was attentive right from the beginning, making us feel welcome and comfortable. We booked the West tour of Madeira with Madeira Electric Tours. Our guide Roberto was exceptionally good. He arrived on time and was very knowledgeable about the history of the island. He described in detail all the fruit,trees and shrubs. Every stop was unhurried for us to take photos. We had a leisurely time at the Porto Moniz where we could swim in the pools and take leisurely lunch. This was followed by a wine tasting and a lovely return journey. I think this is the best tour of the island I would have no hesitation in recommending Roberto and this company.

Another two amazing trips with Robbie. This is an experience not to be missed - the man's enthusiasm and knowledge are inexhaustible! Don't hire a car on Madeira, folks, just do some trips with him in his electric vehicle and you'll see and learn a lot more than if you go on your own. It'll be a whole lot less stressful and enjoyable too - Madeira is not a place where you should drive if you can avoid it! Leave it to the local experts like Robbie.

We advance booked and paid for both tours, east and west, scheduled on two consecutive days. The first day we were collected along with another previously unknown couple from our hotel. Roberto managed to seamlessly accommodate the interests and needs of the two different couples so everyone gained the optimum experience on an individual level. In fact, the convivial nature of the day managed by Roberto led to us enjoying dinner with the same couple when we bumped into them again a few nights later! On the second day my husband was unable to come on the east tour as he was ill and so we were resigned to me going alone with him missing out and losing the money paid. However, upon learning of this when Roberto came to the hotel to pick me up he explained that, as he had no other clients joining us that day, he could swap his personal diary around, cancel our trip that day without penalty, and meet us both again on a different day at the end of our second week instead. This was simply another demonstration of Roberto’s care and consideration of his clients. During the interim period we enjoyed a couple of hiking trips with a mountain guide and realised that some of the places we had walked were on Roberto’s next itinerary scheduled for our east day. No need to worry, when he collected us both Roberto said he had actually seen us in the distance at one venue with the mountain guide, had guessed what had happened and so, aided by his previous knowledge of our preferences, had put together a personalised trip for our consideration to places not yet visited. We of course agreed and had another great day seeing new sights and learning new things about Madeira. With Roberto’s knowledge and infectious appreciation of his island he is an excellent ambassador for Madeira. His electric vehicle is comfortable, clean and smoothly driven leading to a full and relaxing day. We highly recommend Madeira Electric Tours, a company which goes above and beyond what you would reasonably expect and one which delivers on all fronts.

I cannot even put in to words how wonderful and informative our tour in Madeira was. Fantastic day out. Roberto was very knowledgeable about all our destinations as well as all the local fauna and flora. Nothing was too much trouble and he was happy to provide information and recommendations for other places. excellent private tour in a quiet and very comfortable car. Roberto was knowledgable and friendly and electric car meant no noise or fumes. Only 2 of us on the tour and we enjoyed seeing the sights of the west of madeira that we wouldnt have managed by hire car or on the bus. Would highly recommend this tour! Roberto made the day so relaxed and fun. It was a great way to see the island without having to worry about parking / navigation / not speaking the language. We got to see and hear about the island from a local, who shared a side of Madeira that is beyond the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. His itinerary gave us a good sense of the diverse landscapes and micro-climates of the island, and the swim spot he took us to was a highlight of the trip.

There are not enough words to do this review justice.... We had an incredible time on the Electric Tours with Roberto. Having originally booked the West Trip, we enjoyed it so much that before parting ways we arranged the East trip for our next available day. Both tours were thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish and a true highlight of our first ever trip to Madeira. There was never a dull moment as Roberto had plenty of insights to share and such a vast and varied knowledge of Madeiran history, culture, politics and more, which he imparted so enthusiastically along the way that we felt we had learned so much by the end. Roberto's love of Madeira was evident but equally his passion for providing a truly bespoke and personalised experience for others really showed from the moment we were greeted until we returned. On a practical note, the transport was a perfect way to travel around the island in comfort. Immaculately clean, plenty of room, air con when needed and most importantly driven safely by Roberto who was also perfectly attentive with those seemingly small but significant things like ensuring we had adequate comfort breaks and were content with the temperature settings etc. The quiet nature of the vehicle provided the ability to hear birdsong and waterfalls and also discuss the various sights en route which is something we had not considered before, but realised during the trip was actually a huge benefit and something unique which makes the Electric Tours stand out in superiority to the other open topped jeep, 4x4, bus tours. It was very evident that that Roberto had given careful thought to his routes, to be inclusive of an eclectic mix of landscapes, seascapes, urban, rural, agricultural, areas of natural beauty etc. We loved being shown parts of Madeira which were off the beaten track, and Roberto's dedication to avoiding tourist congestion in order to maximise our experience at each stopping point was something we truly appreciated and made the trips even more relaxed and enjoyable. The sights were out of this world.....from quaint fishing villages with eco-friendly artistic flair to standing on top of the world in silence with a carpet of cloud at your feet, with every colour of tropical flower and fruit you can imagine along the way and some real hidden gems, it was truly the best way to see, hear, smell, touch and taste Madeira!! Wow wow wow…Where to even begin! We booked this private tour last minute and it was the best thing we done. We seen things on the island we never would have and now have a better understanding of how beautiful Madeira is in its landscapes and culture. The tour felt relaxed and personal, everything went at our pace. Although we seen the main sights we were taken to some quiet private spots away from the tourist traps and chaos which only added to the trips perfection. We have three kids aged 10-13 and to keep them occupied can be challenging, but Roberto was informative, entertaining, and had an awesome sense of humor. This tour company was recommended to us by Rosie, the tourism manager in our hotel, Quintinha Sao Joao (terrific family run hotel). She divined our wishes perfectly and booked us with Roberto for a tour of the Eastern side of the island. Roberto, our gregarious driver and guide, picked us up promptly at our hotel in his all electric Mercedes people carrier which has a maximum capacity of 7 passengers, so all the tours are with a small party. The advantage of having a small people carrier instead of a large coach cannot be overstated. Roberto likes to drive with the windows open (the vehicle is practically silent) so the smells and sounds of his beloved island illustrate his references to the abundant fauna and flora. It's like a magic carpet. His commentary is entirely spontaneous (and copious :-) but stands in sharp contrast to the script style delivery from the Coach tour companies, and of course, you can ask questions! Look out points and roadside photo opportunities are far superior since his smaller vehicle can access areas of the island others simply cannot. The lunch venue was pre-booked so no waiting for a table and the menu was full of genuine Madeiran dishes at reasonable prices. The route is entirely flexible so if there is something you want to see that is not on his normal tour route, then no problem. We had a great day with Roberto and really felt we had got a grip of the history, culture and abundant flora of the island....and had a laugh while doing it. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we immediately booked the tour for the western half of the island when we returned to the hotel. If you are lucky he will demonstrate his beloved telescopic avocado harvesting device en-route by slyly pirating a few that overhang the road :-)

Roberto (who is South African) was punctual and collected us from the Savoy, his enthusiasm and friendly manner set the tone for the day, we travelled in a extremely comfortable, silent electric EQV Mercedes, driving up, the many hills effortlessly, while stopping to hear the local birdsong and appreciating the abundance of flora and fauna.
