Madeira Sunset Or Sunrise At Pico And Pr1 Stairway To Heaven

This experience was perfect from start to finish! Cláudio was great, gave us all the information we needed and we set off on our way. As a solo traveller I was very lucky with the group I travelled with and we all stuck together on the trail. Even as someone scared of heights, I would absolutely do this again - incredible views and such a fantastic experience!

Great tour with lovely knowledgable driver. Fab sunrise, clear day. Walk tough on the return. We arrived 630am. No toilets available until 9am, which is not acceptable for a public attraction. This was a big problem for some people.

100% recommend booking with these guys! Luis was our driver and he was super friendly and always happy to answer any questions, even for so early in the morning he had a smile on his face! We were so lucky with the weather and caught a beautiful sunrise and the stairway to heaven was just as beautiful

I have decided that I am going to do this again hopefully when the weather gets better. Its a beautiful hike... Claudio gave a good tour as well.. Recommended 5 stars!!

Good trip to see some amazing views and the sunset. We had a enough time to do the walk and then get back in time for the sunset. Only issue was the toilets were shut by 6pm, although the guide did warn us of this.

Very nice tour! Our guide booked me a ticked to pr 1, was punctual, talkative but not too much. We were done by 10:30, so I had the whole day ahead after finishing the tour. Really recommend.

Cláudio was our driver for the trip to Pico do Arieiro and provided an excellent service. He collected us from our hotel on time and drove safely throughout the journey. On arrival, he gave us clear instructions and helpful information, making sure we knew exactly what to do. We were also lucky enough to witness a beautiful sunset, which made the experience even more special!

Beautiful scenery. Challenging hike, but not required. It was very windy, and I was not prepared for the temperature drop. Our guide had extra jackets, but be prepared with your own wind jacket/sweatshirt/other.

Amazing. Fully recommend. Harder to hike back. Wrap up with layers and a pair of good boots. Westjer changes so it was very foggy on our way up but this cleared on our way down

This was a very cool hike. The visibility was incredibly poor and we saw literally nothing but it was cool nonetheless. Luis was excellent - very kind and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend but don’t hold out for good weather.

It gets cold up there, who would have thought you need hats and mitts and thermal underwear in Madeira!!

We had a great experience on this tour! Our tour guide was super friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. He gave us clear directions and shared some really helpful tips before the hike. My wife had twisted her ankle, and he was incredibly thoughtful in explaining our alternatives in case we weren't able to complete the main hike. I also forgot to bring water, and thankfully, he had an extra bottle that he kindly gave me. We really appreciated how helpful and accommodating he was throughout the experience. Highly recommend this tour!

An excellent shuttle service to The stairway to heaven with very good information about the route and the weather condition. I would suggest you always check the weather before you embark on your journey..

An absolutely unforgettable experience. Beautiful views throughout the walk and the best sunset at the end! The transfer was organised perfectly and our guide Luis was hilarious and also very informative. I absolutely recommend!

The hike is a bit of a challenge, but the vistas are spectacular and so well worth the effort. Our guide was great and all had a great time.

This was a great self-guided tour. Our driver was fun and accommodating, and even though the weather prevented us from seeing sunset, we still had an excellent hike and snapped some stunning moodier photos.

It's a short hike, but for some people the altitude plus the steepness could cause discomfort. Just be prepared.

What an amazing experience! Slightly nerve wracking in parts doing the hike but the scenery was just stunning! Luis our driver was excellent! Genial, knowledgeable and fun! I would definitely recommend the trip and Luis! The weather stopped is from sering the actual sunset but Luis stopped on the way back for a beautiful vista of Funchsl at night from the hills. A wonderful evening!

Unfortunately, this was an extremely poor experience, entirely because of the driver, Claudio/Cludio (apologies if I have the spelling wrong). When he picked me up, I immediately asked to sit in the front seat, explaining that I suffer from severe travel sickness and knew the road up the mountain would be winding. Claudio refused, saying he wanted couples to sit together, and as one of only two solo travellers I would have to sit in the back. He offered no compromise, such as waiting until everyone had been collected and asking whether anyone minded the seating arrangement. I explained again that I was genuinely uncomfortable, and he refused again. This went back and forth several times until the only other guest in the car, another solo traveller, said the situation was making her uncomfortable and offered to move to the very back so I could take the middle seat. I thanked her, but told Claudio I still needed the front seat and that I was disappointed and shocked to be treated this way on a paid experience I had been looking forward to. He then raised his voice, repeatedly asking, "Are we going to have a problem?" and telling me that if I didn't like it, I didn't have to come and he would reimburse me. I had travelled a long way to Madeira specifically to see Pico do Arieiro, so I gave in and took the middle seat. I was really ill for the entire journey up the mountain, which took about an hour and a quarter. Claudio never once checked on me, although on a couple of occasions he specifically asked the other guest in the back whether she was okay, to which she responded she was fine. This confrontation overshadowed the whole five-hour experience. No guest should be spoken to this way, especially when making a reasonable request on health grounds. For these reasons, I am requesting a full refund. Please contact me to arrange this.

Luis our guide was super friendly, punctual. We had a rental car, but having a tour guide take us took the stress out of driving, parking . The experience of hiking the stairway to heaven was incredible! Would highly recommend this tour

Luis was very funny and very knowledgeable. Although we didn’t see a sunset or any brown bears! 🤣 luis kept us entertained on the vertical trip to the peak.

Make sure you bring clothes for cold wind. Gloves are a lightweight addition. We are older, but still did part of the hike. I was kept well informed of our meeting time and place and Claudio made sure our drive was safe and comfortable. He was great.

Brilliant experience. The weather for us was just perfect. Being above the clouds was phenomenal. It wasn’t too busy, views were ‘wow’ and then we got to sit and watch the sun set. Driver Luis was great and funny. Only thing that would have made it a little better was we were in a small minibus with two other couples and we were sat at the back and our friends were sat at the front so when Luis was chatting about the island and tips of what to do or foods to try we couldn’t hear what was being said so had to rely on friends to relay back to us, But other than that, we loved it. The pictures on the internet do make the walk look more scary than it is in real life ! FYI

It’s September and down in Funchal is was a beautiful day. We were shocked that it was so cold on top. Even though I had a light jacket the guide scrounged a winter jacket for several of us on the right. My husband had a rain suit back at the hotel but we never dreamed we’d need it. The wind was grueling. It was so wet that we could wring our clothes out. Not everyone made it all the way but you should definitely do this tour. We were up in the clouds and it was like walking on the top of a mountain. It was the best thing we did on this island. My advice bring a warm jacket that is waterproof if you can even if it’s beautiful at your hotel. At age 62 I made it all the way but some people could not go all the way. You should be in decent shape. Also wear shoes with good grip. Some of the rocks are slippery. When you get to the point where you see the gate …turn around…take a picture. This is where all the Google pics of people posing are. This is the hike you will remember your whole life….I guarantee it.

This was a good way to “taxi” to the top to experience the “Stairway to Heaven” at sunset. But, the condition of the shuttle van was sketchy and we felt a bit uncomfortable.

Good communication on booking and pick-up details. Pick up was exactly on time, and the group was only 7 people, which I appreciated. When the weather turned and we were unable to do the planned hike, rather than call it quits, Claudio took us below the rain clouds and to another sunset viewpoint. He managed to salvage the day by going above and beyond. Recommend this excursion for anyone who doesn't have a rental car or just doesn't feel up to navigating the mountain roads at night.

Our driver Cludio was great - he was v friendly, considerate and funny, he made the entire trip more enjoyable. The sunset itself was breathtaking, highlight of the trip.

A great service. Luis was a class guide. Very knowledgeable and fun. I would say ask luis plenty. He likes to engage and tell you about the Island , its mountains and its history. Very informative guy. If you just want the sunset there is no trekking or even walking involved... the stairway to heaven is worth the walk. There isnt much hiking in it at all. Really glad to gave paid someone else to drive up to the where the sunset walk started. Hair raising to say the least but our driver Luis did a great job. Friendly, relaxed, clear. Only rated 4 due to the weather spoling the experience a bit!

Amazing views. Bring a warm Jacket. Cold when the sun is going down. Need to be sure footed. Quite exposed in places. Avoid really busy times if possible as stairs and paths very narrow.

Communication was excellent from Luis, arriving on time. Informative & friendly as we travelled to the destination. Felt very safe as we navigated the drive. Trek its self was a challenge but certainly doable & worth it for the spectacular views! Stunning sunset!

Breathtaking views and overall an amazing experience. Best part of our Madeira trip. It’s definitely very weather dependent so make sure to check the forecast. Even though we had a very warm day (25C) It got quite chilly and windy on the mountain by sunset. I recommend wearing long pants and bringing a warm Jacket and possibly even a beanie and light gloves.

Hiking and seeing the Cristo Rei Madeira, was an unforgettable experience. Our person was super friendly.

Driver was excellent in humour and hospitality. Walk was breathtaking in so many ways and one to remember. Waling in the clouds meant a different walk than expected but a hubby who hates heights definitely appreciated that.

A must do!!! We were all skeptical we’d have a view because of the clouds/weather, but our driver got us up to the viewpoint safely and the view during the hike was PHENOMENAL! We were above the clouds and then came back to the viewpoint to watch the sunset over the clouds! Definitely a must do!

Not what I was expecting, although I had done very little research. Breathtaking views, highly recommended. Quite steep in places and definitely need solid footwear. An experience I'll never forget
