Madeira Canyoning Intermediate

Pedro and Miguel are amazing they are so fun and made us feel super safe, the whole group was great! Sliding down water falls, hiking over big rocks and the repels were all fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend. If you want to have fun, book this adventure.

The canyoning tour with Be Local Madeira was an incredible experience and a fun way to spend a slightly rainy day on the island. The tour is set in the Valley of the Nuns, which is stunningly beautiful. The guides, Rodrigo and Joao, were fun, encouraging and did an amazing job of making everyone feel comfortable and ensuring the whole group was able to enjoy the experience. A great day in Madeira and an experience we would highly recommend!

I cannot recommend this company enough! We went for our first canyoning experience and did the Level 2 Nuns Valley with Pedro and Tomas as our guides. We loved it so much that we came back a few days later to do Level 3 at Ribeira Funda with Pedro and Aubri! Both experiences were absolutely amazing. The guides were very professional and always took the time to clearly explain each step and make sure we felt safe and comfortable. But most of all, they were incredibly friendly and funny, always singing, joking around, and hyping us up throughout the experience! They made both days so much fun, and we truly had an amazing time with them. We 100% recommend this experience, and a special thank you to Pedro, Tomas, and Aubri for making it so memorable!

Pedro and Gustav were amazing! So kind, patient, safe and kept the energy high the whole time. This has been my favorite part of my trip to Madeira so I can’t recommend them and this experience enough.

The entire day was incredible! Our instructors Pedro and gustaff were hilarious and always made sure we were safe! The experience was fun anyway but they made it 10 times better!

Everything is provided, you need to be sure footed and comfortable scrambling on wet rocks. Guides will bring your bags to the finish point, so pack your wallet so you can enjoy a nice poncha at the end.

It was a very nice experience to go canyoning with these guys. Our guids were very informative and made the experience awsome.

It was the best excursions I have ever done. Was the first time I jumped from a cliff! The instructors were very helpful and always gave you an alternative if you didn’t want to do the “scary” stuff. I did of course but not everyone wanted to and they did not chassis them for it. Great communication and sooo fun!

Highlight of an amazing trip to Madeira! My husband really wanted to do this, but I was a little scared. Upon meeting our amazing guides - Peter and Pedro - I instantly felt at ease. The guides really know what they are doing with the sport, know the canyons like the back of your hand, and are so skilled at making you feel confident and making sure you are safe! (It IS a thrilling adventure, so they will gently push you too but only the way you need!) If you are in good shape but a little scared, I would highly encourage you to go for it! You get to see views of the island that are inaccessible otherwise, and the adventure is SO much fun! We did one other canyoning excursion with belocalmadeira (also highly recommended!) in Nuns Valley, which was a great warm up for Ribeira Funda which takes you right into a serious waterfall for your first rappel. (In my opinion, the only reason you need to do a level 2 canyon first is to get your confidence and comfort up first). Belocalmadeira also handles everything you need other than your swimsuit, they are incredibly organized and well-equipped, and great communicators. I can’t speak highly enough of our guides either! Go for it!

What an absolutely AMAZING adventure! This excursion was my husband’s idea and I was quite nervous seeing the pictures that I would be too scared. However, I immediately felt in good hands upon meeting our amazing guides - Peter & Pedro, who had ample experience and knew how to make me feel confident and safe while taking us through some high-adrenaline experiences. This is such a thrill of an excursion, with views of the island you absolutely cannot get any other way. They even took great photos of us! We did have (also a WONDERFUL) experience with one other belocalmadeira canyoneering excursion in Nun’s valley prior to this excursion, which if you’re in good shape shouldn’t be a necessary prerequisite except this excursion gets you immediately into an intense waterfall rappel so for confidence (and a great time) is a good idea. If you’re just a little nervous about your own bravery but the pictures intrigue you, I say GO FOR IT! It will be even more fun than you’re expecting!

I did canyoning in Curral das Freiras and it was absolutely amazing! The water was so cold it woke me up instantly — no coffee needed. 😅 The guides were fantastic, super funny and full of energy, always keeping the group laughing while doing some crazy jumps that I watched and thought, “yeah, not doing that!” Between the cold water, the adrenaline, and all the laughs, it was an experience totally worth repeating.

Hugo, Francisco were our guides who deserve the five stars. They were fun, professional and had an eye on us the whole way down. Thrills and slides and just so much fun. My daughter and I love adventure and are so happy we chose this group. This was one of the best experiences we have ever had. We were nervous about booking this intermediate level as complete beginners but we needn’t have worried, most of our group were also beginners and our guides Pedro and Juan were brilliant and made the day incredible. Technical information, the whole organisation of the day and safety were top notch and Pedro and Juan’s enthusiasm, positivity and sense of humour made it all the more enjoyable. We really can’t recommend this experience enough.

We went through about 10 waterfalls with rappelling, which was both exciting and safe thanks to the clear guidance. The whole team brought great vibes – young, energetic, and highly efficient – and that made the adventure even better. A special shout-out to our driver Alex, who not only got us everywhere smoothly but kept everyone laughing with his great sense of humor. If you’re in Madeira and want a fun, safe, and memorable adventure, I can’t recommend this enough!

This was a really fun experience! We went with Francisco and Fabricie and they were very helpful and friendly. They handled a range of skill levels and enthusiasm very well. I struggled to put on the suit in the beginning and the crew was so helpful and nice as they pulled it on to me (lol truly thank you all for the assistance!). We did intermediate and 5 of the 6 of us had never canyoned before. This was the right choice for us. By the end, the hardest part was walking through the rocks and water. Overall, a fun time for the adventurous!

This was a huge highlight of my trip. The guides took great care of us while also making it fun. You get some hiking and canyoning within a perfect time frame. Highly recommend

This was my favorite activity on the island. The group I went with was in good spirits. It was mostly a mix of Germans and Americans. The guides were engaged and energetic. The activity includes hiking through a canyon with repelling from waterfalls. There are also some surprises. The guides help with capturing moments throughout.

We had the most fun, safe and adventurous experience on the intermediate canyoning course. Our Instructors Jose and Felipe did a great job and it was easy to tell they had alot of instructing experience. I highly recommend this experience, especially the intermediate one even if you have not had any previous canyoning experience prior!

This was such an adventure! Our guides, Hugo and Mano were great. I was picked up in Funchal and driven to the meeting point. After changing into all the required gear, you hike to the canyon. We did a lot of rappelling (abseiling) and clambering over and around rocks. There were a couple short, natural slides and two jumps into the water below. We also had a bit of swimming to do. We hiked back out at the end. I felt safe during this trip, but you do need a good sense of balance and fitness. If I could change anything about it, it would be a smaller group. There were 12 people, so you have to wait awhile for all the others to do each element. It gave me lots of time to chat with the other participants. For my first canyoning experience, it was awesome!

Book this experience with BELOCALMADEIRA it was an epic amount of fun! The guides are incredibly happy, knowledgeable and funny! We had the best morning, rappelling down waterfalls and sliding down natural slides. A must do in Madeira!

We enjoyed a Level 2 canyoning tour with our guide Fabio and his colleague we were a group of 5 of us and another small group joining us. Be Local Madeira was soo kind as we arrived with a big delay as it was our first day on Madeira and we run into heavy traffic, but they waited for us and were so so nice. The Level 2 was perfect for us and could have been maybe even one Level up. I personally enjoyed walking to our canyon in nuns valley and repelling down the most. I was and am not a Fan of water slides anywhere but I felt very safe with the Team and did it :) next time i will be brave and also jump of the cliff, too! We had a sort of beginner group in front of us with a very outgoing guide, which we passed at a certain point. I preferred Fabios character way more, he was fun but still calm sort of serious sometimes but this gave me a professional impression that he is concentrated and taking care of us. And besides that he was also talkative and joking. And I mean the pictures and videos are huuuuge and included and this is often not. He was able to enable and align all the different physical and mental capabilities in the whole group to make the best out of this Trip so nobody felt bored and still felt challenged. The Route we took was a little short, I would have loved to do more but that might be the case for higher level tours. Anyhow the Adrenalin was high and we were so tired afterwards and had so much fun. We had a great talk with him afterwards and he shared several further local recommendations with us from hikes to Restaurants. But the cherry on top was he was there when we took a hike on our last day which went really not as planned and we needed help to come safely back home. So he took every effort to help us out and rescued us with the help of his colleagues and friends from nuns valley! So he was basically our hero the whole vacation and really realized the full Madeira experience for us! THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN GUYS

We had the most incredible experience from start to finish! All the guides were so professional and were always ensuring everybody was safe within the group throughout the entire day but whilst doing so, also making sure you were having a laugh and enjoying the experience too😁 Both Pedro and Valerio were the best guides we could’ve asked for for the trip today and we can’t wait to come back in 2025 to take on the level 3 🙏🏻 cannot recommend this company enough the best at what they do!! Awesome guides! So much fun and I always felt 100% safe. The landscape is beautiful and be prepared to get wet. They also give you a yummy snack at the end. And bonus the guides take pics which they provide FREE which is hard to come by these days.

We had the BEST DAY with Miguel & Elvis! Along with being amazing guides they were a comedy act. Kept us laughing the whole time. They could connect with all the ages 17-47. If there were more than 5 stars they would get it! Definitely book local with this company. They also have fantastic communication.
