Madeira Canyoning - Beginner

Absolutely amazing experience! 🤩 Francisco, Miguel and Fabio were fantastic instructors- super friendly, professional and full of great energy! ❤️ We were a little nervous at first, but they made us feel comfortable straight away and got us into the action so quickly that we forgot all about the stress and had the best time ever! They made the whole experience so much fun. Huge thanks to all three of them for such an unforgettable experience! We 100% recommend it to everyone. Don’t hesitate, just go for it! 🔥🙌

Absolutely incredible experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had the BEST time canyoning and honestly, it was probably one of the best days I’ve ever had! From start to finish, everything was so well organised. There was no hanging around, the instructions were clear, and the whole team were incredibly kind, helpful and reassuring — they really put us at ease, even when we were doing things that were completely outside our comfort zone! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Madeira is beautiful, but seeing it from the canyon was something else entirely. 🌿💦 A special mention to Francisco, who was absolutely superb. His professionalism, encouragement and sense of fun made the whole experience even better. And then, to finish the day, we headed to the lively little café/bar where we enjoyed some well-deserved Ponchas! 🍹 What a brilliant way to end an unforgettable day. Would 100% recommend this experience. If you’re thinking about doing it — DO IT! You won’t regret it. ❤️

What an amazing experience.. this is my first time trying this advanture, Pedro and Marc are the best were very helpful guiding me and showing me step and tech me how to control and do right movements for slides and hikes… Hiiggghhhly recommended this experience!!!

Myself and my friend booked on to Be Local Madeira as a recommendation by another person who used the service - and was absolutely incredible! Our guides, Fransico and Luca were friendly and knowledgeable, and encouraging when taking any of the challenges. We felt safe and secure with all of their instruction, and equipment. My friend was more tentative and took her time, and we never felt rushed by the leaders/ group. Someone else in our group had an injury in our group and they were very attentive and did not push anyone beyond their means. Our experience cost €70 per person , including pick up and drop off to the site. Organizing the transport was painless and they answered my many questions promptly. All of our belongings were stored safely and taken to end of the route, so we didn't have to worry about anything. They also take lots of photos so no need to bring your phone. We had best driver Miguel who took us back, thank you for the tunes! We could not recommend this experience enough !

Me and my partner tried the beginner lever canyoning as I've abseiled a bit in the past but wanted a challenge. This was the BEST part of our trip so far!! We were just smiling and laughing the whole time. Our two guides Mauro and Ika were faultless. We all felt safe, fully informed, well guided and supported through all the beautiful areas, dips, crossings and waterfalls through this incredible canyon. Even with one girl who slightly hurt her foot, they were so kind, patient and supportive making sure she got down slowly and safely with the group without any further worry. She was smiling so much at the end! We were all laughing, cheering and supporting each other as a group so you get this amazing feel to it as you go. Even if you're slightly fearful of heights or water like some of our group were, they make you feel so at ease even with the jumps, slides and dips that we didn't think we could even do!! Me and my partner were smiling and laughing the whole way as it was a first for us both and the guides will take so many amazing pictures for you and show you where to pose! Our advice would be, bring a sense of fearlessness, bring that trust and depency in them as you'd just hold yourself back otherwise. Nevertheless as a beginner course it was still so exhilarating and fun, we even did slides and jumping into the water! We were so proud at the end and our guides got us together for a big group photo and kept calling us their family!! Tips I'd share is wear your swimwear underneath and the changing area is sort of out in the open on the side of a road so bring a towel for modesty if you prefer!! Don't bother with phones, watches etc you won't need them! Your things are safely kept in designated numbered bags by the host and he keeps these safe and makes sure they're there at the end. You go to a little bar area at the end when you're finished which has a toilet but otherwise you do have to hold pee most of the way. Be ready! As amongst the actual canyoning there were climbs, walks and traversing across streams, slippery rocks etc so definitely bring your energy but it was SO WORTH IT! We could not stop saying how amazing it was and how we couldn't have done it without the support of our guides and such a wonderful group so Thank you, I would give this 11/10 if I could and I genuinely have no complaints (other than the wetsuits initially do feel a bit icky when they go on... But will feel so comfortable when you're in the cold water!) Be fearless, go for it, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to feel so at nature in Madiera and pushing themselves to their limits! If I could give a 10 star review, I would. Mauro and Ika were absolutely incredible. I felt safe and comfortable throughout. They were warm funny and friendly and it just felt like I was doing a fun experience with some friends. Suzie and I loved it, we had the best time and our bus driver too sorry I forget your name but a lovely man. This is a must do experience in Madeira and such insane value for money. Thanks guys you were amazing. Much love❤️

It was great. I came with my 10-year-old. The guides really helped her at every step she needed. The canyoning was great, and it is an experience to remember. Maru, Chemo, and Luka, you are great.

The route was exciting. We climbed, jumped and slides down smaller waterfalls. Enough action even as it was a beginner trail.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. The team reached out via WhatsApp in advance of the activity so that everything was clearly laid out. The canyoning itself was extremely fun - some walking, rappelling, natural slides and jumps. The staff were fun & friendly; and the entire operation felt safe. Highly recommend!

We had the best canyoning experience with Be Local Madera. We are 3 adults and 3 kids, from 8 years old to 11, and we are all first times. Our guide Mauro is very professional, and caring. And above all, he has a great sense of humor. Kids love listening to his story and his coaching. and he encouraged all of them to learn and practice. Juan was also very nice to guide us and introduced travel tips in Madeira. Canyoning is the experience you can't miss in Madeira. View is stunning, and we enjoyed every second of it and feeling like a kid.

The guys who led us were outstanding! I had never done canyoning before and they were very patient with me, good with instructions and made me feel safe. The canyon is beautiful and it’s a great way to experience it!

It was a wonderful experience with Pedro, Francisco, and Fabio as our guides. As a first timer in canyoning and a solo traveler, I felt safe and comfortable while having a lot of fun. All aspects were well organised, from the logistics to the adventure and having a nice relaxing break at the end. Everyone in the group was very friendly and kept the energy level just right to enjoy the adventure. I will definitely do it again in the future when I am around in Madeira. Thank you!!

We travelled as a group of 3 and booked the beginner level as none of us had done this before. The guides were amazing, they have a lot of patience for the first timers! At no point did I feel unsafe and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The natural slide at the end is a fantastic way to end the experience! The guides take pictures and recordings throughout the day and we recieved them later on that afternoon. I would recommend to anyone. Thanks guys!

What an experience! I’ve been coming to Madeira for 20+ years and this is the best experience I’ve ever had on this beautiful island. The guides- Fabrizio and Gonzalo(spider man) were amazing. The views were just beautiful and the cannoning was full of fun. We will definitely be returning and recommending to all our friends and family.

Booked this trip with my son (15), daughter (17) and myself (52). After pickup you are taken to a secluded area to get changed with a number of other groups. You then walk to the beginning of the canyoning activity. It's not a long distance but was enough to generate a bit of a thirst. I asked whether we had any water, but there wasn't any, but as we were at the top part of the walk, we could drink fresh water from the stream, which was quite an experience. That's one ticked off the bucket list ! As someone who doesn't swim well, I was somewhat anxious as to whether I would be able to do this activity. Throughout the walk I was really pleased that the guide was really supportive . I can confirm you don't need to be a strong swimmer, but you need to be able to swim the very short distance from the "splash down area" to the side. The route does get very busy with other groups but the guides work well together to reduce congestion and keep the feeling that you are part of a small group. My family had a great trip, the guides were experienced and fun, at no stage did we feel unsafe. The guides took excellent photos throughout with some lovely impromtu ones and shots of the beautiful scenery. The booking process was clear and simple, and the pick up and drop off efficient and very friendly. The only reason for not scoring this 5 out 5, was 1) The TripAdvisor advert cites food and drink are included, but we weren't offered any. As such, do remember to take your own snack but you won't have access to it until the end of the trip. Maybe take your own celebratory poncha :) 2) It is worth warning folks that there isn't a private changing area so if you are worried about your privacy (or privacy of family members) then I'd suggest wearing swimming costumes before arriving and/or bringing a changing towel poncho, or such the like. Advice, such as this, should be included to ensure people are prepared.

Fantastic experience! First time canyoning and would definitely go again after such a fun morning. Highly recommend Be Local - their guides were knowledgeable, safe and overall made the experience what it was. The beginners course was definitely still hard work with a 15 minute hike either side of the canyoning and needing confidence to walk over the rocks in water, swim very short distances. Would recommend this company to anyone visiting the island.

Our excellent, professional and fun team drove us from Funchal to the canyoning spot, gave us all the equipment we needed, and took us through canyoning as beginners. Cannot recommend this enough!!! Myself and my friend booked the beginner canyoning experience and were lucky enough to be the only booking on the Sunday so ended up with a private tour with Vitor. Vitor was so friendly, full of experience, knowledge and made us feel safe throughout the morning. Vitor is a credit to the company and made it more enjoyable. The views were unreal, this is definitely a must on a trip to Madeira. All equipment needed is provided, communication was great and the photos taken were much appreciated to remember the day.

The experience with the crew and learning how to climb down the rocks by the river was amazing. The people who helped us are really nice and treats you like their family. They took many pictures and videos of us! That was incredible rather than having to bring our cameras/phones to take pictures. Whereas, they let us enjoy the experience the whole time, along with pretty pictures from their own go-pros and phone ! Thank you for the memories!

My family of five, ranging from 12 to 50 years old had an absolutely amazing time on our canyoning adventure with Be Local Madeira.
