Can’t fault the service. Buses are frequent and clean with good commentary and cover a large part of Funchal and towards the west including the glass skywalk viewing platform. (The viewing area is extra).

We bought our tickets online and waited to start at bus stop 3. First bus that came along was full. 2nd bus a few people got off including from upstairs. So we went up and there were 3 seats. One next to a person who took up 1.5 seats, another next to a person who took up more than one seat and one at the back that a person had their bag on. We tried to fit in next to the large people but it was so uncomfortable with the lack of room. After a while I moved back and asked the woman to move her bag and squeezed in (still lack of space). We endured this until more people got off and we found a seat together but we got off at Camara de Lobos to transfer to the minibus to Cada Girao. However there was no timetable to say when this would arrive and after sitting on the wall for a while with no idea of the wait, we gave up. Had lunch and taxied back to avoid the bus return journey. Totally awful experience and not one we would repeat. I’m sure other people may have a different experience but not good for us at all and a waste of our money.
Terrible! Don’t waste your money. This is a very confusing and time consuming way to see the island. It’s better to book another tour with a good tour guide.
The provider was good with communication, but could do better at keeping the reservation. They said they unfortunately had to cancel, then reassigned us to another guide, and at the last moment, then canceled again. So I cannot review the experience. In the end, a walking tour in Funchal might have not been a good idea, due to the elevations of terrain.
It was an ok tour you had to wear ear phones and plug in to socket then press up and down for language you speak which every time she spoke it got stuck not good.28 stops it was ok if you like plants and banna trees It took you half I round the island. It was 24 euros each for 2hrs we thought it was a little expensive.
Good for seeing the island were dropped off at the rock pools
The pick up from the cruise port is VERY poor. There is no signage anywhere showing the pick up spot. We were waiting for ages at the spot where other buses park. Then a yellow bus arrived, turned around and drove right past us. Turns out the stop is unmarked. That's right. There is no bus stop for it, so it's pot luck where it stops, and if you're lucky to run for it or miss it and have to wait 30-45 minutes for the next one. Don't bother. Take the port shuttle bus to the centre and get a local bus instead.
Easy to access and secure spot on Viator. The bus was comfortable and clean. The headsets were given to each person.
The three in one is cheap, however they lie about timings and quite often bus didn't arrive. The timings are available via the app and give you precise times to pick up then inspite of being early the bus either doesn't arrive or is upto 50 minutes late. NEVER AGAIN wouldn't recommend
The 3-in-1 Hop-On Hop-Off Tour is a fun, easy, and efficient way to explore Funchal and its surroundings. We enjoyed some great stops at the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint and the Cabo Girão skywalk. Although we bought 5-day tickets, we only ended up using them for a single day. That was no problem for me since I knowingly took that gamble (plus, the price difference was minimal). Naturally, you can also use the bus simply as a way to get around. Minus points (not very annoying): Waiting at the connection stop yellow en blue line can be long. Audio could be better. Anyhow, good experience.
Bus tour route included important sites in the city, sadly the audio descriptions were not always in time to the locations we passed. It is appreciated that with pre recorded audio, there will be times when a description does not fit the feature it is describing.
Mixed experience. We booked the 2 day pass 3 in 1 tour. For two consecutive days had to wait between 45 and 50 minutes for the bus to turn up from bus stop 23 (between 10am and 11 am approx) to take us into Funchal. It was our understanding buses every 30 mins during AM. So a frustrating start each day. We complained to the agent in Funchal and were told this is not possible so there is clearly a disconnect here. On the plus side when the bus did turn up it was OK. The tour to Cabo Girao was excellent and the driver of the smaller bus was very helpful indeed (changed to smaller bus at Camara de Lobos). We did not use the audio guide. Weather was good and sat in the open top area of the bus for some great views.
Long wait times. Narrative and driver were not synced. Buying tickets online was confusing. Hop on Hop Bus would have been a better choice!
Good overview of funchal. Easy excursion to acquaint yourself with the area. Good value for money. Would recommend
Great route with varied stops Clean city. Good driver with great control. Narrow streets navigated well
This was great value and allowed us to get a good overview of Funchal. I would recommend this experience.
The route was nice and covered most of Funchal and nearby villages. Sadly the supplied audio guide didn’t meet expectations. The guided audio primarily played music and when the audio guide actually provided some information it was out of sync with the location. Since we’re multilingual we tried different audio tracks but all were equally bad. Additionally the audio ports didn’t work at all seats and when pointed out to staff it was shrugged at and ignored. In summary. If you want to see a nice scenery and you’re not interested in learning anything about the scenery this trip is for you. Otherwise try the red buses in Funchal, it can’t be worse.
This has a good set of a fixed routes in and around Funchal, but one has to be mindful if using this to try to see everything on a cruise call to this port. If not on a cruise, then this is a very nice setup and you could augment it with the city transit system and taxis and ride shares as needed. The main route does not go near the 2 big botanical gardens up on hillsides with very narrow streets. There is an interlocking route that goes to Cabo Girao. One would have to start very early, take in the high point in Funchal, and quickly move westward on to Camara de Lobos, and also take the short hop to Cabo Girao. The fact that I started a little late and went up to the paid municipal gardens did not allow me enough time to get way out west from Funchal. I would do those things first ... and then see the big gardens, if time allows, before your ship leaves because there are always taxis and rideshares available from the exits to the big hillside and they're not that far from the port, relatively speaking. If your interests are the paid gardens, the sky gondola, and the wicker basket ride, along with the center of town, there might be a lot of the routing that you won't be using. In short, if you are a cruise passenger, really consider what your priorities are. If you are staying for a while, then this is a really nice route system that you could easily augment with other affordable means to get up to the hillside points of interest.
We purchased the Yellow HOHO 3 in 1 Service. Reasonably accessible from the cruise terminal and we were in fact dropped off outside at the end of the trip. In hindsight we did not have time to cover the two main routes having stopped off to take the cable car (there is a stop right next to this). The yellow buses were regular and would quite often stop to enable a photo at a picture point.
I have booked on a booking.com Wasn’t sure how it’s works, but was very easy, found the stop, hop in,then saw place what I wanted to visit then hop off and spent time in a nice place Drivers very helpful, answering all questions Highly recommend
We chose the yellow (local) bus over the well known red bus. The yellow bus has a 5 day option for less than 5 euros extra (on top of the the 48 hour ticket price). This also included a 2nd line which takes you to the glass bottomed viewpoint (5 euro entrance fee - worth it) . We were in Madeira for 7 nights - its very hilly, so we used the bus to get us to various locations, if we did not want to climb the steep hills in the heat. The drivers were very freindly and the buses quite frequent. Be aware that delays can happen when traffic is busy or in our case there was an accident, the bus could not access the road we were on but waited longer at another waiting place. The roads can be narrow and winding. We also got 10 % of so paid 44 euros for 2 people for 5 days.
The first day of our 3 in 1 tour we had to wait over an hour after we hopped off the bus at the farmer’s market. It was a long wait in a tight location. Once on the bus we enjoyed the audio narrative.
The Hop-On Hop-Off Tour was a very good way to get a first impression of the island. We travelled from Funchal to Câmara de Lobos, Pico dos Barcelos and Cabo Girão. It was a comfortable and practical way to see some of the most important sights in a short time. The bus operates from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It would have been even better if it also ran in the evening, for example until midnight. The buses arrived every 30 minutes, which made it easy to plan our stops. The staff was very friendly, helpful and well organised. Overall, it was a great experience and a convenient way to explore the island.
The cruise ships were in town, so the bus had been there 1st and it was nearly full. The 2rd part of the trip to the viewing platform is worth it, it costs 5€ to get on the platform.
Great way to see the beautiful sights of the island. Immense views. Time in cute, historic Camera de Lobos too which is why hop on/off is so good. Wish the schedule was available online. This has been unavailable since December and really needs to be reinstated. Also had difficulty find the stops as interactive map not working. Lovely way to spend a day. No end to see and do.
The buses are comfortable and the drivers were extremely helpful when my husband left his backpack on a bus! The timetables provided by the company are not very reliable though.
I normally do the red bus hop on hop off but choose yellow due to price very disappointed the time table was completely wrong the buses were so irregular therefore you wouldn’t have time in the day to hop off in too many places .. I had the tickets for 5 days after 2 I gave up and got regular buses there was always 3 red buses too 1 yellow.. would not use again
Did the 3 in 1 tour took out a 48 hr ticket enjoyed it so much took out another ticket after the first one, Only negative the ticket man did not mention that the bus ticket does not cover walking on the glass viewing platform you have to pay €5 to enter
On the whole drivers ok but some we encountered were very rude and inpatient! It would be useful to have two routes round the towns rather than just one long route which takes hours if the cruise ships are in!
Flexible. Gives you a good overview with the opportunity to get off to see anything of interest and catch the next bus
I really enjoyed the experience, from site it was not clear that bus stop was not at cruise deck, only a desk information was there
Could have skipped it even though I usually like the bus to be introduced to the city. But the route is not very convenient, if you want to go back, have to do the whole circle again, plus have to wait for a long time for the next one. Included are: another bus going to Cabo Girao (but can be seen on the West tour), and Blandy’s wine tasting (but it’s only one glass of wine of their choice).
Excellent service and value for money. Did the 5 day pass drivers always helpful. Included the trip to the highest viewing point.
Great chance to see more of Funchal. I didn’t get the shuttle to the viewpoint as I’d been before but we did stop at the lovely village of Lobos. The commentary was not brilliant but did point out some landmarks. Well worth the money for a two hour tour
I bought a 3 in 1 five day ticket. Unfortunately because of heavy rain on day five I was unable to use my ticket. I sent an email explaining that, because of arthritis I would not feel safe getting on and off the bus. Whilst, I appreciate the ticket is for consecutive days, I had hoped for some understanding and that they would allow me to use the ticket the following day. All I got was an email saying ' the relevant department will get back to you'. No- one did. I even emailed Carrisur, but no one bothered to reply. Terrible way to treat someone. Especially as I use the Yellow Buses every time I come to Madeira.
We arrived at bus stop 2 at 5pm and just saw a yellow bus speeding past and not stopping. Having looked at the timetable we saw that there was a 5.30pm or 6.15pm bus so we didn't worry. After an hour or so we walked up to bus stop 1 and met Sergio from yellow bus company. He was so helpful and understanding and agreed that the bus timetable was misleading. Unfortunately we had missed our return to Camara de Lobos so got a Bolt back instead. However, Sergio's lovely customer service and resolution was really appreciated - he is a real credit to his company.
The 5 day ticket makes it easy to get around but if you’re accommodated at HPB Cabo Girao, take the first bus down to Funchal/Camera da Lobos and take one of the last 2 buses back. The small bus that takes you to/from Cabo Girao is always full in the middle of the day. However, Roberto the driver is extremely friendly and helpful
Purchased on line from Yellow Bus Tours the 3 in 1 / 48hr tour day before we planned to tour.( A couple & late 70’s) First day did all three & second day just two ( excluded the lookout tour). Everything went to plan . All on time / Drivers & ground staff most helpful & friendly. The audio also no problem on all the buses. All very enjoyable and not too busy. 0930 tour on first day & 1530 tour on second day.
We were really disappointed with Yellow Bus Tours in Funchal. The buses didn’t follow the timetable, and we ended up waiting almost an hour even though we arrived at the stop about 10 minutes before the scheduled time. It felt like a waste of time, and honestly, using Uber or Bolt turned out to be much more reliable - and even cheaper for most of our stay.
Excellent way to tour around Funchal. The blue line takes you to the Cabo Girão Skywalk which has breathtaking views.
We did a 48hr ticket. This was a good way to see the area and decide where to spend some time. The commentary was interesting.
Very good tour, booked ticket online with no issues. Buses were on time and the drivers were very helpful, especially around connecting buses as we did both routes. The info on the headphones was interesting. Definitely a good way to see Funchal and Camara de Lobos. If you're just looking to get somewhere then public transport is cheaper, but for an informative tour, it's good value.
Really worth it! Can see a lot of the island. Drivers good and helpful. Highly recommend it. Channel 3 for English audio.
When visiting cities or large towns we generally start with the hop on hop off bus to get our bearings and find places of interest to seek out and re-visit. When visiting Funchal we purchased a 5 day 3 in 1 pass. Unfortunately on this occasion we found nothing that we felt we would want to see again. Possibly a 48hr 3 in 1 ticket is plenty. To take the Cabo Girao Tour get the hop on hop off bus at stop 1 at 10:30am stay on bus until stop 13 get off approx 11:30 and wait for a single decker bus aprox 11:45 to take you to Cabo Girao. At the top there are public toilets (50cents) a shop and a cafeteria. You can purchase a ticket to go through the barrier to stand at the view point, we didn’t bother. The bus generally waits 30 minutes to take you back to stop 13. If feeling energetic get off at stop 19 and walk along the promenade to stop 22 or just walk all the way back to Funchal.
It's an absolute must when visiting Madeira/Funchal...Great places to visit at your leisure...one thing to remember...when going to Girau...you need card or coins as machines didn't take notes...and you won't access the Views...
Waited over 65 mins at 1st stop Inefficient boarding process. Staff overwhelmed. System needs serious overhaul.
Not worth the money.Organisation not good. You can do these places with the normal buses for less than £2.Bus station at end of promenade and they were very helpful.Did Mobte palace for 1 euro 90 instead of 45 euro
Good modern busses, excellent drivers, rather well maintained schedule. Great way to explore Funchal and surroundings on your own.
The tour was dissappointing as the sound describing where we were did not match where we actually were. It would be useful if their was a tour going the reverse way round, so we could go a different way. The second time we waited for the bus, it took over an hour to arrive. When asked why so late the driver just shrugged his shoulders and took no notice. We discovered that a cruise ship was in town and took tourists round, but took a long time to board and people were standing during our journey too. On the face of it the idea of hop on off bus is good, but you have no idea when they are arriving- if at all! some people had been waiting for an hour too and there was no room for them. The local buses come along frequently so I would not advise using yellow bus as it is so unpredictable and the guide poor. We had aid for 5 days but ended up using them three times.
We had 5 days family ticket. It was nice tour, we drive the whole round 3 times. So much to see. Wine tasting was lovely experience too.
