Funchal Christmas Lights Sightseeing Night Tour

Funchal's Christmas lights are incredible, and this tour is such a special way to see them. Rudolph was a superb guide, and the lovely car was comfy and cosy. Probably as close as you can get to a sleigh ride. 🙂 The work that goes into creating the spectacular light displays is so impressive, and Rudolph was a font of knowledge as we whizzed around the streets. If you have struggled to walk up any of the hills you will be really impressed at how nimble and light the car is! We loved the different styles of lights, it's lovely that they have kept some of the traditional style of lights to appreciate the heritage. If you're in Funchal from December to 7th January, this tour is not to be missed and will be a highlight of your trip.

The lights in Funchal are off the scale and this trip gave us the perfect opportunity to enjoy them. It was pouring with rain so sadly we didn't get the top down experience but the little VW Beetle gamely took us up and down the hills. Our driver, Rodolfo, was lovely, friendly and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Our Mikel was excellent, took us around different parts of the city we would normally not have seen, Tour was over one hour and excellent value for money

As my husband has mobility problems it was a great way to see the lovely lights of Funchal in all their glory Perfect for us on this occasion

We were picked up promptly from the cruise dock , unfortunately the weather was very wet and windy so we were unable to have the top down in the car🙁Rodolfo our guide was excellent with interesting local knowledge about the area.The lights are amazing and we would have loved to have got out in the old town to explore further but as the weather was that bad we returned to the cruise port.The tour is excellent value and would highly recommend as something different to experience in beautiful Madeira.If the later time slots are available I would suggest going for that as the 6.30 slot was very busy traffic.Thank you Rodolfo for a lovely experience 😊

Very enjoyable hour, seeing the lights that we would never see on foot. We went down some back streets and out of the main city. Driver very informative.

We originally did the VW tour of the Christmas lights 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, it's a fabulous way to see the Funchal lights with the top down. We took a tuk tuk tour last year and, although it was good, we gravitated back to this one again this year and it didn't disappoint. We spent time driving round the many beautifully lit streets of Funchal and even got a run up along the Lido area to The Forum before being dropped back at our hotel. If you're considering doing this, don't hesitate!

We were collected by Rudolf in his open top beetle car. Rudolf was lovely, told us about the lights and other things whilst on our tour. It was beautiful, a great way to see all the lights not just the main ones. Would highly recommend this trip for a great experience 😊xx

My wife and I enjoyed Funchal’s amazing Christmas lights from a lovely vintage VW. Rodolfo was an excellent driver and guide. Wrap up well as open top car can be chilly. Also maybe take a seat cushion for extra comfort. Would highly recommend this amazing trip.

Excellent trip, picked up from hotel and driven around roads we would never have got to. I would definitely recommend this trip, so glad we did it. Was pleased I had seen previous review and did have a hat and scarf with me as it did get a bit cool. Hopefully we will get there in 2026 and will definitely book again.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Easily booked via Tripadvisor. Rudolpho arrived at our hotel a few minutes early which was great. He was friendly, polite and a careful driver. The Christmas lights were gorgeous - it is incredible how many there are throughout Funchal. Seeing them from an open-top car was perfect. Very highly recommended.

Rudolph our guide was amazing. Touring through all the streets of Funchal with their many different light arrangements was a great experience and worth every penny. The colors were amazing and one can appreciate all the work that goes into making this great display. The ride in the convertible made it all worthwhile 👍👍

The driver was on time lovely guy stopped several times to give us information about the lights. Plus it was fun riding in open top BEETLE. People please do this one. Happy new year

We wanted to experience the Christmas Lights with tour guide and so glad we chose this one, our driver was on time picked us up door of our hotel in a open top car tip* put light coat/jacket on its bit breezy other than that it was so lovely going through side street seeing so many different lights absolutely 1st class a definite must do in Funchal

Lovely long tour round Funchak in classjc vehicle. Informative and friendly driver. Took us all over town, much better than the bus tour we usually do.

Miguel was very prompt and helpful. The tour of the fabulous Madeira Christmas lights was good but rather too long at over 1 hour. 40 mins would have been the preferred maximum in an open top vintage vw beetle. It was good fun but the traffic is very heavy around Funchal, with lots of queueing at red lights, so we started to feel unwell from all the exhaust fumes. Would recommend though if a bit shorter.

We did the Christmas lights tour in Dec 24 and it was great, a very pleasant trip with a great driver. Madeira is magical at Christmas and a tour around the lights shows you some of the sights you don't normal see because they are slightly off the busier roads. We were out for about 80 minutes and it was well worth it.

We had around an hour's tour of the main and side streets of Funchal in an open-top vintage Volkswagen Beetle. It was great fun, particularly as I owned one many years ago. Our driver/owner (Rudolph) told us what to look at and further details of buildings etc. The lights were absolutely amazing!

Just completed a fantastic Christmas lights sightseeing tour with Miguel in a VW beetle. We spent one hour twenty five minutes driving all around Funchal seeing a brilliant light show, we have been coming to Madeira for over seventeen years and he took us to places we’ve never seen, full marks to Miguel, many thanks look forward to seeing New Years celebrations. Very highly recommended trip.

Very enjoyable hour driving around Funchal with Miguel in a fun 51 year old convertible VW Beatle. Miguel passed on lots of information and was very adept at raising and lowering the roof according to the weather. We saw far more of Funchal and the lights than we would have done on foot. We took heed of previous review and wore jackets but hats weren't used. Highly recommend this tour. Nb best photos taken when stopped at traffic lights!

Absolutely the best way to see the Christmas lights in Funchal. Both drivers were on time, very friendly and shared plenty of local knowledge along the way.

We were picked up from our hotel (be aware that they have limited hotel pick up points) in an open top re conditioned VW Beetle. We got just over an hour of Christmas Lights sights from one end of Funchal to the other. It was a beautiful sight. We recommend you take a hat and a warm jacket. The only point for improvement We would suggest is that we had more stops to take photos. Rudolpho was very friendly and knowledgeable

This is a must. The Christmas lights are really pretty and there are lots and lots of them. We were picked up at our hotel and taken on a wonderful tour. The driver/guide was very informative pointing out things of interest along the route (history lesson included). There is no way anyone walking would have seen all the lights. We went up, down and all around the streets. This tour is brilliant if you want to see everything and not feel tired after it all. You are dropped off back at your hotel but I’m sure if you wanted to stay in Funchal town they would do that. Great value for money. Definitely recommend.

Had an amazing time seeing the Christmas lights by night. Our driver was great at pointing out specific parts and we took some brilliant photos. This is definitely something you should do. The later the better.

This was a fabulous experience from start to finish. Luckily the weather cleared out just in time for us to have the roof open and it was a beautiful evening to see Funchal lights in all their glory. Rudolpho (the driver and car owner) was great and we found out a lot about the island of Madeira as well as info about the vintage of the beautiful 1976 VW Beetle convertible. Well worth the money and highly recommended. The lights in Funchal are amazing and are turned on 1st December each year.

The lights and excellent drivers. The trip around Funchal was spectacular. The route covered all areas including photo opportunities.

Such a lovely way to see the lights of Funchal. Booked as a surprise trip for my mum, a bit of a trip down memory lane for her as her very first car was a VW Beetle (although not a soft top). Uninterrupted views with the roof down, we had a few spots of rain so Miguel stopped to put the roof up but as soon as the rain stopped (just 5 mins later) the roof was down again. Lots of admiring glances and several people waved as we drove round too! Saw the central lights but also drove through narrow streets in the old town then out as far as The Forum shopping centre on the other side of town. Was all just lovely!

Great trip highly recommended. Fab car great driver who was fun informative and a pleasure to be with. Christmas light trip around Funchal on a classic car is the best way of seeing them, and they are fantastic
