Full-day Small Group Jeep Safari Tour From Funchal

This was the last day of our first trip to Madeira. It was a short trip so we had solely been in and around Funchal up to this point. We booked it on a whim walking back to the hotel the evening before and it proved to be a great decision. We were picked up from our hotel by our guide Enia at the agreed time of 08:30 and had a roughly eight hour tour. In total we were six guests and we all had a great time (the itinerary is on the website so I won't repeat it here). Enia was friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about Madeira and eager to share that knowledge and answer our questions, as well as being a good driver of the jeep in challenging conditions. The stops were varied and interesting. We felt like we had a full day out but it wasn't exhausting so we still had energy to go out in the evening. It felt like good value for money and a really worthwhile experience.

We were lucky to be alone with our knowledgeable and funny driver Eduardo, who gave us insight about the island and its flora. Recommended to see a big part of the island (we were visiting North /East) in a one-day trip. Many stops with breathtaking scenarys.

Had an amazing day with Green Devil Safari and our driver Edwardo, he is a great guide , full of local knowledge and certainly knows how to make the day fun , the off road section is an experience you’ll never forget, but for all the right reasons. We were part of a one traveller excursion and there were 4 of us in the vehicle. It was cramped inside, only a child’s seat belt on the centre seat so not very safe. The vehicle was tatty and dirty. There was a convoy of 5 vehicles the one in front was barely roadworthy blowing out thick black smoke periodically. The scenery was breathtaking, the off road unnecessary and the rum tasting was barely worth a visit. At the restaurant I got covered in thick mud ruined my trousers. The food in the restaurant was excellent but very rushed. Our driver Dino was pleasant but was driving whilst taking video.

We had Luis as our guide and driver , came on time and made us feel like we are in good hands , his knowledge is huge ; I learned a lot about the island and it history out of him .. He even was kind enough to give me his jacket ( forgot to bring my own ) .. during the trip we met other guides and they all seems to be genuine people . Professionalism at it peack . Nicely planed trip with enough time at each place . Highly recommended. Thank you Luis Castro .

Wear layers. Maybe something to hold your hair back. And a raincoat just incase. Our driver was Pedro and he was great. Upbeat, fun friendly tour guide. Our last stop was totally fogged in so he took us as a surprise and brought us to a waterfall and also added in an extra stop.

Incredible day of adventure and fun! Miguel was a wonderful tour guide explaining various points of interest along with historical notes. It was a day of non stop laughter!

We had a great day out. Tony, our driver was excellent and certainly made the day special for us. We went to the top of Pico do Ariero, visited a winery and saw some wonderful scenery. Highly recommended!

Excellent day out. Wish I could remember the name of our guide because he was absolutely brilliant. Stopped off in Santana where I really wanted to go and was going to make another trip to include this but didn’t have too after this trip. Can highly recommended this wonderful experience

Today we had an amazing day with some incredible scenery that was made perfect by the excellent guide Diego who was very knowledgeable,thoughtful and an excellent driver. The party consisted of my wife,sister in law two very pretty Dutch girls and a very nice American and my self we laughed all day at so many things. Thank you Diego and Madeira

A great day out made special by a fantastic driver/ guide (Miguel). Our small group taken to the best locations, with no lines or crowds. Great local lunch spot & the off roading was real fun. Like being out with a local friend who knows the island like the back of his hand.

What a brilliant day and so worth the money. We had the best time. Marcos was a wonderful host and the trip itself meant we discovered the exceptional north west of Madeira. The jeep ride was brilliant fun and climbing the off road paths in it will standing up and experiencing the beautiful sunshine and glorious nature was amazing. The Fanal forest was incredible as were the views, waterfalls, beaches and scenery. The natural volcanic pools were amazing. We had the best day. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Not a good experience. So bad initial meeting started off with the driver being late. No apology just I had a long drive. ( not our problem) then hew wanted to squeeze four adults into the back. Again simply said get in. The vehicle a Nissan was too small my wife banged her shoulder I banged my head. The driver was dismissive. He simply said you want to go or not. So we said no. Thankfully we got our money back. But never again will I use this outfit if that’s their driver attitude

Lovely experience with the jeepsafari. Our kids loved the offroad trip. Beautiful views. Our guide Diogo knew all the nice spots!

We did two tours with this company exploring Northeast and Northwest areas of the island. We had the most incredible time on our tours with Nelson. From start to finish, he showed us everything we could have hoped to see and more. We can’t recommend them enough for anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.

This by far was the worst shore excursion I have ever taken! First, they put 5 persons in a jeep that can only seat four persons including the driver! We were placed in the jump seats with poor cushions facing each other in the back of the vehicle which was totally uncomfortable and a very rough ride! We could not see anything during the ride! Then our driver took us through some very rough roads in the mountains with all of us bouncing all around the vehicle! The driver didn't drive or take the pot holes easy at all! The majority of time he was going through those pot hole with no regards for us in the very back as well those in the other seats! Not taking into consideration if anyone had a bad back or any other medical issues! The driver kept laughing like it was funny during the rough ride! The driver never explain what and where we were going! He kept telling us about him buying a fixer up house and him making numerous repairs to it! No warning that this was going to be a very rough ride in the backwoods' in the mountain! The biggest waste of money I have ever spent! I don't recommend this tour at all! Unless you want the worst ride of your life! I couldn't wait to return to the ship! Also the company needs to hired employees that speak clear English!

Fantastic trip! Jose was so very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. The off road sections were thrilling! Stunning landscapes, would highly recommend.

we had booked 1 day to go on the greendevil tour. But because it was so much fun, we went again the next day. Miguel our guide showed us beautiful places and we were amazed. Miguel was a real atmosphere creator and we not only learned a lot about Madeira, but also laughed a lot! Thank you Miguel, we will never forget you and Madeira!

We had a fantastic day exploring with Jose with tremendous company and a fulfilled day of sightseeing . We could not have asked for a better tour guide from pick up to drop off. So many wonderful memories made in one day.

I took a Green Devil Safari tour on April 27-2023, as one of the options available to passengers in the Celebrity Constellation cruise. The scenery is great but the trip was AWFUL! Green Devil Safari squeezed eight (8) passengers in one regular size jeep--LIKE SARDINES IN A CAN! Four people facing each other on the parallel seats in the back, and the rest in the 4 available seats in the front. We all paid full price for the tour. It was MOST UNCOMFORTABLE AND DANGEROUS. Those of us in the back had to turn our heads to the right or to the left to see the landscape.One of the ladies in the back was considerably overweight and squeezed my friend across me. All of us were touching knees. There was no strap or bar to hold while we were taking a rather bumpy and sinuous road in the mountains. It was rather dangerous and also a most inconsiderate situation for us the customers. The owner of this business should try to make less money and provide more comfort and safety . BEWARE ! Do not accept traveling with this company if the operator PACKS THE JEEP! I have filed a complaint with the Tourist Bureau in Madeira.

I really enjoyed the tour and our guide is a nice man who knows how to guide with fun. Rise this man's salary he deserves it :D places that we visit are really fascinating. I advice this tour for all people

A great way to see the island. Thoroughly recommend doing this at the beginning of your holiday - it will give you great ideas on where to go. Our driver, Hugo, was very knowledgable and we had a wonderful tour of hidden spots. He also kept stopping to feed us fruit and flowers fresh from the trees; many of these I’d never heard of. Great views and lots of interesting history. The off roading was brilliant fun. We felt very safe in Hugo’s expert hands! Wonderful lunch with authentic Madeiran dishes - the goat and Black Scabbard were amazing. If we do come back to Madeira it will be to explore the areas we were shown today.

It was amazing. Our tour driver and guide Elayas (I hope I wrote that correctly) was really nice, told us interesting facts about the island, took some photos and created a good atmosphere. We went to Porto Moniz, off road trip, Forrest of Fanal and other places that I cant recommend enough. It is truly fascinating trip for a reasonable price :)

From pickup at out hotel to drop off, this was a packed day. Plenty of stops for photos, a knowledgeable guide (Filip) and a perfect end on top of the mountain. The off-road section in open jeeps just after some rain was a fantastic white knuckle experience.

Excellent way to see a lot of the island in a short space of time. We stopped at many viewpoints to enjoy the landscape of Madeira. We were also able to spend a couple of hours enjoying Porto Moniz. Good value for money given how much you get to see and do. Definitely recommend!

We'd never been on a 'Jeep Safari' before - so, this was our 'introduction'. The trip that we had at the end of January was a full day and went to the West and the North of the island. It was an absolutely amazing experience - so much fun - and worth every singe penny (sorry ...... cent) ! Hugo was our guide. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed - yet proffessional and he made a point of chatting to, involving and bonding all 7 of us 'strangers'. We went to places which were unreachable by public transport and innaccessible by car - and Hugo explained everything en route. If there is one 'treat' that you give yourselves during your stay in Madeira - make sure its this one, or one similar. You'll not regret it!!

The 2 1/2 hour trip on a one long dirt/rock road over the mountains to the north coast. Also last stop in Sao Vicente for wonderful Madeira fortified wine tastings. Hugo is magnificent tour guide and drive.

Fantastic private tour with Nuno, the best and most experienced guide for the island of Madeira. So friendly and knowledgeable. We started off in Funchal where he provided some statistical information about the island, we went along the East coast and stopped for some proper coffee whilst visiting Pico da Cruz, Santa Cruz, Machico, Portela, Porto da Cruz, Faial, ribeiro frio, poiso, Santana, and Pico de Areeiro (one of the highest points on the island approx 1800m above sea level). Lunch was at an beautiful restaurant at an astonishing price for a 3 course meal. I had roast goat cooked with rosemary and potatoes, as well as an entree of black scabbard fish, tuna pate, roast pork, boiled cabbage, olives, local cheese and a bread selection. The meal includes wine and also a dessert of your choice. All fresh ingredients :) Nuno makes sure his customers are placed at ease as he caters to all requests and answers all questions. The off-roading along the back roads whilst coming down or up from the peaks was the best part! Put the suspension on the keep through its paces :) Nuno even provided an overview of the area where the cable car drops you off, before you can visit the botanical garden and then return to the area next to Zona Velha by the tobaggon. Thoroughly excellent tour!

Our driver and guide “Juan” was fabulous, great knowledge of this beautiful island, along with amazing driving skills to take us to places which you only dream about! His humour and warmth was exceptional. The full day is jammed packed with surprises, twist and turns, laughs and gasps! Our lunch stop was delicious with local cuisine served with wine. This is a must, you see Madeira with all its natural beauty and charm.We thoroughly recommend it, and boy it will be a day to remember, well done Juan and his trusty truck! Thanks Keith & Patricia

Had an amazing time with green devil tours, Spencer (our guide) picked us up and showed us all around the north of the island and took us to plenty of interesting spots on the way. He even took us off road to get to the really interesting spots! Would recommend to anyone looking to see more of the island without having to fork out big money for a taxi or coach. Took us to Porto Montiz for lunch and too see the natural lava pools! Spencer, spoke perfect English, as well as German and Portuguese. He was very informative and clearly knew his stuff about the island after living here for many years. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to seek some thrills and explore!

Me, my sister & my brother went on this tour together which we booked in the UK before we visited Madiera. I am actually so speechless, I don’t even know where to start. Our drive Gwan came on time & was so lovely the minute we met him. He was so caring and so considerate and created a special place in our hearts for him. He was an amazing experienced driver with an amazing personality where he had us laughing from 8:30am to 5pm! He took us to many many beautiful destinations and explained facts to us thoroughly. He did the little things which meant the most like putting the roof back ontop of the jeep when we were cold to taking it back off when we were hot. He made sure our well-being was his priority from beginning to end. At the end of the tour he gave us gifts from the company & he had said he felt happy at the end of the day. The tour was worth the money we paid & I am honestly telling you to GO BOOK IT NOW. You will not regret it. Everyone said they loved the tour so much. Also if you are able to request a driver I urge you to pick GWAN he is AMAZING. Green Devil Safari you are SO lucky to have him be a part of your team please tell him we said hello & a big thank you for making us feel so welcome and caring for us so much. We will never forget!

We did this with 2 adults and 2 teenagers (who loved it) we got to see the most stunning sights and given so much information from our knowledgeable guide (Francisco). This lasted almost 11 hours and lunch was a small additional cost but was excellent value. We stopped off a few times for snacks, coffee, wine tasting and a chance to try some Poncha. The views we got see were unique for this tour and could only be seen by 4 x 4. We got the chance to go for a swim in the volcanic pools on the north of the island away from the main tourist pools. Francisco was a credit to the company! He had a wealth of knowledge about the routes we took, wildlife and trees. He was very passionate about the locations he took us and his English was excellent, he was very accommodating for the others on our tour and spoke in Spanish to them. This was definitely the highlight of our holiday. If you're undecided about this, just book it and have a memorable experience and make the most of beautiful Madeira.

We had an amazing day, went to the northwest tour. I was trwvelling with my two pre-teene and mt little sister. Juan, our driver was really friendly and told us a lot about the locals and about the nature, farms. Enjoyed the views and also the jeep rally along the small local roads :) I definitely recommend everybody to go on a Jeep Safari with Green Devil, when you come to Madeira!

We did north west full day trip. Got picked up at 8:30 which was prompt. Tour guide Vitor Hugo was lovely guy. Very passionate, funny and safe driver. Off-road driving was amazing. We had lots of fun. My 4 years daughter enjoyed the tour very much. We visited the different breath taking places. The lunch was very good. Worth doing the trip

We did the Breath-taking North East and Santana tour the guide took us around all the small back roads so we could enjoy the countryside off the beaten track which was good.

Really great fun got to see loads and had a lovely meal high up fabulous views. Driver very friendly and was born on the island so able to tell us the history.

Booked this trip prior to leaving UK. Got picked up close by to our accommodation.Juan was our driver and what a fantastic day we had with him.Pick up was prompt and it was non stop fun all day.Very personable and accommodating was the driver, great driving skils, which is a must for some of those roads.Had lunch at a rural local place where Juan even cooked our lunch. Natural pools were amazing, in fact it was all bloody amazing.Highly recommend

We had a fantastic day with José our guide at greendevilsafari. With a 4x4 drive off road and into the mountains. All kinds of flowers and fruit seen and tasted. Standing above the clouds. Walked through the levada and swam in the lava baths. In addition, seeing ancient laurel trees and experiencing eucalyptus forests. Unbelievable how beautiful Madeira is and how nice it is to have a guide with you. Doing this route yourself would not have been possible. You really need an experienced guide. We have had a more than great day. We can therefore wholeheartedly recommend !!!

One of the best experiences of Madeira! Our driver and guide Jose was really kind, with a sense of humour, he told us a little about everything, food, local flora, history etc. The tour was brilliant, we have seen some breathetaking landscapes, also the lunch was good. Thank you for a great day!

Really good day trip out! Our driver José was fab, really knowledgable. Saw some beautiful sights as well as trying PONCHA in a few rural bars! Would deffo recommend!

We decided to get off the beaten track and see the real Madeira on a Jeep Safari tour. This is probably the best way to enjoy the island - and it's also a lot of fun. Safely, strapped into the open-top motor we were shown some of the stunning scenery which ordinary cars can't reach. Our driver gave us a commentary as he took us up bumpy mountain tracks to see spectacular scenery, waterfalls, levadas, tiny churches and breathtaking cliffs and ravines. There's plenty of spots to take in the views and we also stopped at a remote bar for snacks and rum punch. Make sure you take a camera as there's lots to photograph.

Can't praise this trip and our guide Nuno enough. The off road experience is something else. Nuno was a great driver and didn't feel unsafe at any point, despite travelling along increasingly narrower tracks and roads. Have seen places that truly took our breath away on this trip. Would recommend 100 per cent.
