Full-day Jeep Safari West: Fanal, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Cabo Girão

All day excursion was great value. Pick up at our hotel was on time, driver guide Pedro was both entertaining and informative and visited all the top spots to the West and North of Funchal. Ancient 4x4 was a bit slow and rickety but that gave us more time to view everything along the way! Great way to see the majestic landscapes that Madeira has to offer.

This is the way to see real Madeira. Not like an open bus tour. Up and down narrow streets, off road through forests and up mountains. Lots of stops to admire the views. See rough route on pic. Very knowledgeable guide. But don’t do this and then moan about a bumpy ride, or not suitable for younger children or older adults who are unsteady on their feet. It’s not for you. Read the description first!

We enjoyed the tour, and all the places we visited. Most of the time is spent in the vehicle driving, but it’s beautiful landscape. Jaco enjoy driving really fast, and since we got back safely, I can say that it was fun and thrilling to be whipping around corners on narrow roads along the side of a high cliff– – on the road that was two-way. And the off-road portion was fun and fast as well. He’s a good driver! But he’s more of a driver than a guide. He told us for a little about Madera, and we only got information when we asked him a question. So he was really just taking us from one place to another. He dropped us off and told us what time we needed to be back, without really explaining what there was to see or do at each stop. So it’s a sightseeing ride, more than a guided tour.

Very enjoyable trip. Our guide (Pedro) was excellent as both a driver and providing interesting information during the trip. The trip took us to interesting sights and was a great way to see more of the stunning island of Madeira. Highly recommended.

Such a great tour! We learned a lot about Madeira’s culture and agriculture, saw beautiful waterfalls, went off-roading, and even had time for a swim in the ocean. The guide was excellent, and the whole experience was fun and interesting. Highly recommend!

Great trip, very interesting places visited, a full days experience. The guide was very good, although rather hijacked by one of the tourists on the group, so probably did not receive as much information as we would have.

Michael was friendly, fun and informative. We really enjoyed our jeep safari. Weather was really bad when we went to Fanal Forest so Michael took us to other spots, which was great.

Our most exciting day in Madeira! Picked up right on time and taken to all the sights, a perfect way to see them all - from viewpoints, to forests, to towns, pools and beaches, a bit of everything! Our driver was really excellent, chatty and with bits of info as we went around, kept everything exciting and always safe. Hugely recommend as a way to spend a day!

Honestly if you do one thing in Madeira you have to do the one day tour it’s fantastic from start to finish. Nico our guide was brilliant super informative, really funny and just great to be around. If I’m honest the tour was the last thing we did on our trip but it’s probably better to do it at the beginning so you can revisit any places you like the look of. So much fun, the off road sections are such a laugh and break the trip up. You get roughly 20/25 minutes at each location which is plenty for a photo op and hour and half for lunch. Definitely take a few snacks/water and warm gear good shoes for the paths at the Fanal forest section although it was ok with shorts and T-shirt when we went but just be prepared. We were with a large family group from Ireland on a 30th birthday trip in two 4x4 and tbh it enhanced the trip (if you read this I’m sure you know who you are) couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to share a day with.

A great safari drive around the island. Pedro was great, very informative and a great tour guide. The thermal pools were great, remember to pack a swimming costume though. The forest was a bit wet and muddy, so remember to pack well for that part of the tour. Overall a great experience that I would so again.

An fantastic day led by Terri, the off road king! The off roading, natural pools and Fanal forest were genuine highlights of this super value tour. A top choice if you want to see Madeira beyond Funchal and for us a great way to wind down after a few days hiking.

The driver picked up & dropped me on time & at the spot. Sitting at back of the jeep is fun & you are allowed to stand up in soft roads. But I feel the allocation of time along the trip can be adjusted - would love to spend more time in the forest and less so in Porto mortiz. Some of the view points along the way was less impressive

We had an absolutely fantastic day on our Jeep safari in Madeira! There were 4 adults in our group, and it turned out to be one of the best days of our trip. Our guide, Pedro, was wonderful — kind, knowledgeable, funny, and incredibly passionate about Madeira. He explained everything in great detail in both Portuguese and English, making sure everyone understood and felt included. The whole experience was so much fun, with beautiful scenery, interesting places, and plenty of laughs along the way. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better day! We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Madeira. Definitely the best day trip! 🚙🌴⛰️

Viktor really brought this fabulous trip to life with his zest for adventure and love for- and knowledge of - his country. We all had the best time. Loved the offroading, the natural pools at Porto Moniz and the peaceful Fanal forest. We booked a private tour for the 5 of us and were really comfortable - were very pleased we weren't trying to squish in with 3 others. Definitely recommend this trip and esoecially Viktor - we all agreed we lucked out getting him as our guide. Brilliant day out and fabulous way to explore this incredible country.

Absolutely wonderful day from start to finish. Our driver/guide, Pedro, was a lovely young man with lots of local knowledge. Madeira is such a beautiful island. We swam in a lava pool, stood 580 metres up on the sky bridge looking down - it was amazing. We stood up in back of the jeep on the off road drive! We loved it. There were lots of stunning views; Fanal forest, Porto Moniz, Cabo Girao and Seixal beach. Would highly recommend this trip.

This was a good trip, covering the main sights to the north and west of the island. The driver took us off road a bit which was quite uncomfortable due to the age of the vehicle. I had hoped to learn more about the island but all we mostly got was the name of the place and when we needed to return. I also felt that the driver did not consider the needs of the passengers when telling us where to sit. I have a bad knee and struggled to climb in and out of the back section each time (to the point where I stayed in the vehicle at the last stop). Convenient way to get to see the main sights, but next time I think I will choice a tour that gives for information and less detours via poor tracks.it would be great for a younger group perhaps.

Great host (Miguel), we got to see lots of different places the best was definitely seixal beach. I recommend bringing some warm clothing for when you reach funal forest as due to its altitude it’s quite cold.

A great and fun adventure. Very diverse. Many experiences and landscapes in a singe day. I also appreciated the guide's sense of humour. One of the best 1 day excursions I have taken in my life.

Superb. We had a wonderful day with out guide Gabriel who was incredibly informative and fun to be with. The tour is a must we saw so much and thoroughly enjoyed driving through the narrow streets that surprisingly are 2 way!! The off road was amazing fun. John was an outstanding guide throughout the day, going out of his way to make the Jeep 4x4 safari informative, enjoyable and comfortable. The NorthWest itinerary travelling to the Cabo Girao skywalk, Seixal black sand beach, Fanal forest and the lava pools at Porto Moniz is arguably the best on the island and one I would highly recommend.

A great fun day. Make sure you stay hydrated in the summer months. The 4x4s are very rustic and can involve a packed car and sideways travel. However your driver makes it! Our driver Alex was very friendly and knowledgeable, we had a lot of fun with him and he was great! Very attentive.

We had a great full day tour with Safari Madeira yesterday. Our guide John was super knowledgeable and informative - we learned a lot of interesting history and facts about the island along the way. It’s a great way to see this beautiful island in a short space of time!

Our family of five had an incredible experience on the Safari Jeep Tour with John! From start to finish, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire day so much fun. He shared so many interesting facts about Madeira while keeping the kids entertained the whole time, which made the long drive fly by. The tour lasted about seven hours, but it honestly never felt that long because every stop was beautiful and the ride itself was so enjoyable. John’s energy, sense of humor, and passion for the island made the experience unforgettable. Incredible experience we had, it is definitely something that everyone should try in Madeira we had the best day spent in almost every part of Madeira, worth every euro, thank you so much to our guides it was interesting to listen to them and their driving skills 10/10 ;)

Amazing day touring the island. Nico made it though. Simply the best guide. He made the day fantastic for everyone. We had teens, forty somethings and 70+ ages in the jeep and he was able to make sure we all had the best time. Can’t recommend highly enough!

What a brilliant way to see the west side of this beautiful island! We had an amazing day out visiting various points of interest. Our host Neli was fantastic, very friendly and knowledgeable. My 7 year old loved the shortcuts where we got to stand up in the open-top jeep! Other highlights included the thrill of standing on the glass floor at Cabo Girão, having a wander in the misty Fanal forest, and swimming in the volcanic pools at Porto Moniz. Would highly recommend this tour!

What a great way to see and experience the west side of Madeira. Our tour guide, Nelio, was fantastic. We learned so many things about the island that we would never have learned on our own. Plus, the jeep takes you to parts of the island I can’t imagine trying to reach in a rental car. The Fanal Forest was cloud covered and magical the day we went. My favorite part. Don’t forget a light jacket. It gets pretty cool when you’re up in the clouds 😊. Thanks Nelio for a great day.

This was a great way to see some of the sights on the west side of the island. Pick up from hotel in Funchal was straightforward and our guide was fun and friendly. We were combined with two other groups, and there were eight passengers in total. Felt like we packed a lot in - lots of short stops, some off-road sections where you are allowed to stand, and a longer stop in Porto Moniz (we had enough time to swim snd grab a quick snack). The trip is bumpy in places and some of the roads very steep/twisty/narrow/close to the cliff edges - but it was great fun and we felt safe and in good hands all day!

Amazing trip and so much fun travelling in the jeep. Our guide was very friendly and shared lots of info on the island throughout. Highly recommend! Only thing to watch out for is the restaurant that gets recommended by the company for lunch in Porto Moniz. If you say you'd like to go they call ahead and order for you. The food was really poor! I'd find your own place to eat.
