We had an amazing day exploring the west side of Madeira with Discovery Island Madeira. The itinerary included some of the island's most iconic places, such as Ponta do Sol, Ribeira Brava, Fanal Forest, Porto Moniz, Seixal and Cabo Girão. We were incredibly lucky with the weather: bright sunshine along the south coast and a thick mist covering Fanal Forest, creating the magical and mystical atmosphere that makes this place so special. What truly made the experience exceptional, however, was our guide and driver, Jesus. From the very beginning, he made us feel completely safe and comfortable on the winding mountain roads. His driving skills were outstanding, allowing us to relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery throughout the day. Beyond that, Jesus shared a wealth of interesting information, local history, and fascinating anecdotes about Madeira. His passion for the island was evident, and his friendly personality made the tour both informative and enjoyable. If you're looking for a memorable way to discover Madeira, I highly recommend Discovery Island Madeira—and if you have the chance to tour with Jesus, you're in for a fantastic experience.

We had a wonderful safari tour. The day was spent in best way possible to get to know Madeira. We experienced the island from different sides and roads, and saw the most amazing spots. Our driver/guide Jesus was very chill, easy to talk to and informative. He explained places we encountered and told interesting facts about the island.

We booked a 4x4 tour with Discovery Island Tours, having seen a row of their Landrovers parked up professionally by Funchal Marina. The tour was lead by an Italian driver (Julia?) who turned up on time and was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Julia’s driving was excellent and exciting, both on road and off road. The price of the tour was average. We went as a couple and the rest of the tour party was made up by a family and a lady with her son. The whole group gelled well together and the children particularly enjoyed riding in the rear of the Defender, on the inward facing bench seats.

One of the of the best cruise tours I've ever taken. Daniel was extremely knowledgeable, and answered all our questions thoroughly. He also gave us very interesting facts about the island. From the ship, he immediately took us up into the mountains. On narrow roads and rough terrain. That was a great ride. We stopped at very scenic locations, and were given plenty of time to take pictures and look around. Lunch was in an excellent restaurant. The food was varied and delicious. Service was outstanding. A very good experience all around. 6 stars!

Amazing day out with Discovery Island tours. I apologise as I have forgotten the name of our driver (maybe Carlos) but he was hilarious, totally brilliant, great driver taking us up and down steep, winding roads. Gave us time at each stop for photos and to take in the amazing scenery. Lunch was at Porto Moniz which had lots of restaurants/cafes selling pizzas, sandwiches or larger meals if you prefer so don't worry about packing any food to take. Tip: There are free toilets right down the end of the town next to the Tourist Information. Make sure you get out and see the whole Island as its beautiful.

We did a one day private tour with Romero, the tour was was very good and very relaxed and enjoyable and Romero was even better, he couldn't do enough for us. Both the trip and Romero are highly recommended

We had a great jeep safari of north&west Madeira with Romeiro. He took us through some more adventurous island roads! We enjoyed the tour and his suggestions as well! Fanal forests and road to Seixal and Porto Moniz was amazing!

We had a great tour guide, Miguel, who was patient and knowledgeable, with very good English so he could go into great depth about the history of the island. There were lots of interesting stops, all with a bit of interesting background and fit the right length of time. So much to see, so many views and the best way to see a lot in a short space of time - a must.

We were collected from our hotel in Machico by the lovely Tiago. He informed us we were collecting 3 more for our trip. They were also from Madeira. Tiago is a credit to your company as he was so friendly and filled us with knowledge of the area and with the company of the 3 ladies who were with us made it a very memorable day. Great day out getting the opportunity to see some lovely sights/places and experiencing some crazy narrow + off roads, well worth it. Our guide/driver was excellent, full or humor and local knowledge.

The views were excellent, the jeep very comfortable. This part of the island very beautiful. Would only suggest that guides tell their clients which stops will have things like washrooms, shops, restaurants, etc before arrival and also if there are fees to use some of the facilities at the sites. One hike is pretty isolated and I would recommend guide tell each person to have a buddy system.

Not what we expected, but what we got was still amazing. We wanted to see flourishing and exciting nature life, but we chose the wrong time of the year as spring would've been better. Nethertheless our friendly Tourguide/Driver Gil gave us a good tour around the West Coast where we had some time to capture the canyons, hills, animals, riffs and beaches of Madeira. Here and there we could've spend more time, but had to drive off to the next spot. But after that you know where to go by yourself, if you want to see more. Personally I was glad to have such a good driver in Gil, because the traffic is nothing for beginners. We can recommend this over any other bus tour you could take. Simply because they can't bring you as close to certain areas as a Jeep can and I think it would be shame to miss out on the opportunity to learn so much about the island from a native. You can ask Gil so many questions about the Island, it's people and nature or just have a nice chat. In summary, we had such a wonderfull time and it is a good reason to come back and try out the east coast tour as well! - Oliver and family

Sergio was knowledgeable, safe, and entertaining. We ordered a custom tour for the day because our group of 4 people wanted to schlep our luggage from Camara de Lobos in the morning to drop off in Funchal. We traveled days prior with a rental car but going with a guide was fun and educational with a local's perspective. He dropped us off at key spots so we never dealt with hassle of parking. Gave us ample time to enjoy various spots. He also made it exciting taking us on the back roads. Note that vistas are dependent on unpredictable weather conditions!

Fantastic journey and views on the way , fantastic Driver, no compare to privat journeys we made. We fully recommend especially at the beginning of your stay on Madeira when you do not know how to start to explore the Island , which direction to go first and route to choose.

It was a funny ride! Thanks a lot to Carlos! He made the tour very special for us. Even tho the weather was not so good for swimming in the nature pools, he showed us other nice places and we drank the best Poncha and Nikita in a small bar. A big THANK YOU! We can recommend!!

We went on a full day north west Jeep tour with Eugenio. Lovely guy he was very prompt to collect us and we had a fabulous day exploring large areas of the island both in normal road and off road. His driving was excellent and he was a fount of knowledge on the local area. Thanks Eugenio!

It’s a nice program for families as the 4x4 is very light. We had two boys with us 8-11 years and they loved it. The driver Eugenio was very nice and spoke a lot about the island and the sites we visited. We had a stop for a 20min hike above the clouds. Views are stunning. The longest stop we had in Porto Moniz for a swim. It’s a perfect tour if you wanna combine the trip with lava pools swim.

What a unique experience, we had a top guide his name was Jesus that gave to the tour an extra. This island with its varied landscapes was really worth it, we came to places that are only accessible by a 4×4. The views are incredibly beautiful. Are you in funcal definitely do this tour. Ask if it is possible with this guide because he really makes it work.

Definitely worth it!! You see all the hotspots and drive along roads you would skip on foot 🫣 We had Daniel as a guide, fine driver who effortlessly steers through the impassable. We had exactly one day in Madeira as we docked with the AIDA in Funchal and the ship sailed again in the evening. For this reason, we booked a full-day excursion with the 4x4 off-road vehicle over the whole island. We were picked up at 09:30, received the most friendly and then provided with lots of information about the places visited. Lunch was included and 5:30 p.m. we were back. The possibility of swimming in the sea was of course also available. All in all, it was a wonderful and incredibly beautiful and interesting route. But what made this trip special was Vitor! Vitor was the rider and guide of the Tour. However, that is an understatement, because he was much more entertainer and a person you just have to like. He made this day special and I've never felt so well taken care of on a tour. So thanks Vitor and Discovery Island Madeira for this wonderful day. I hope you'll read this! Have a wonderfull time and i'm looking forward to see you again! And also my best wishes to your uncle. We all know you have your roots all over the Island😅

Jeep Day tour to visit the northwest of the island. Our guides Miguel and Sergio were on top! They gave us a lot of information about the island of Madeira, a perfectly controlled driving of the jeep, all in a great atmosphere and with a lot of humor!

The jeep tour to visit the north west of the island with Sergio and Miguel, our guides, was incredible 🤩 Very good command of the jeep, visit several places we had not seen yet, which allowed us to complete our trip!! In addition, our two guides were great. They have a very good knowledge of their island, humor, everything you need to have a good time with them! I highly recommend this experience 🤩

The stops we made are fantastic Madeira is really magnificent the breathtaking view from above, it allows you to have a general view and choose places to return because the time of each stop is very little , in the natural pools it would take a full day the same to fanal or Seixal beach . In Porto Moniz I recommend saving time eating a quick sandwich and enjoying the two hours by the pool.
