This was an absolutely fantastic trip and I would recommend it to anyone. On our previous visit to Madeira we did the Jeep Safari of the west and enjoyed it so much that this time we did the east. Our driver, Michael, was a real character and made the day both fun and interesting. We particularly enjoyed the Levada de Balcões walk in Ribeiro Frio, the traditional houses in Santana, the visit to the rum factory, and the viewpoint at Caniçal. All in all it was an excellent trip and a great way to see the east.

Great way to see this part of the island!
Lovely trip in a small group ,not too many people to wait for when u stop got to see a lot of different beautiful places. A good guide a nice group beautiful scenery brilliant views despite a terrible weather forecast only 2 episodes of rain lovely lunch and I didn't have to drive. My daughter loved the off reading and the open roof of the deep well worth doing Maderia is a stunning plsce
Our guide was like a local celebrity. He knew everyone. Even though the weather didnt cooperate, he was ready with some alternate destinations. Bravo 👏👏👏
A huge thank you to Miguel for this incredible adventure, which wouldn’t have been possible without him! 🙌 Honestly, a 10/10 guide the best, if you ask me! He genuinely cares about everyone in the group and is always coming up with new things to do. And trust me, you absolutely cannot miss his favourite spot… it was simply majestic! 😍 He also took us to try some delicious traditional food, and the conversations along the way were truly unforgettable. Everything about this experience was amazing, and Miguel made it even more special. Thank you for making this adventure one to remember! ❤️✨
We had a fantastic day with Miguel. It was foggy at the observatory dome, so didn’t see much, but Miguel ensured we had an enjoyable experience travelling along the country roads, well off the beaten track. Walking along the Levada dos Balcoes, was a calming stroll, ending at a magnificent view point over the valley where birds happily jumped into people’s hands for food. The poncha at the local bar hit a welcome spot. More twisty turney roads/tracks highlighted the jeep’s suitability and Miguel’s amazing skill. Lunch was soup, skewers and some good Madeiran wine. More twisty turney roads & tracks to Cascata da Aguage for a quick stop before continuing on to Santana, then Miradouro do Guindaste and then North Mills Distillery for some rum tasting. A final drive to Caniçal viewpoint before heading back. Miguel’s quick reactions saved us from being wiped out by 2 drivers on the way back when they pulled onto the VR1 without looking. I think I can confidently say a really great experience was enjoyed by all our party.
The tour was good even though the day was long. The jeep was not comfortable at all ( we were seating right in the back) and the vehicle was old and needed padding on the holding bars! I think you should only allow a group of 4 people for these very long days or provide new, better jeeps. The driver was knowledgeable but on a couple of occasions he picked up the phone while driving and his driving skills felt a bit unsafe. Not recommended for people with back or neck problem but the company should inform you of this. The following day we did a tour of the west with a private driver in a mini van and felt much better
Niko was excellent. Fantastic trip.
We had a fabulous day with Nico as our guide. We saw some amazing sights and had plenty of fun driving on and off road! Santana was lovely but we struggled to find a place to buy/eat a snack in the time frame. Would highly recommend.
Amazing experience. Nico is an incredible guide. The Jeep tour was definitely a highlight of our trip. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Island.
Excellent trip Guide Joao was so informative, polite and lots of fun Highly recommend
I really enjoyed the trip, the scenery, the stops, and the excellent driver. (I would love more explanations).
John was a great guide. Very informative and interesting. Felt safe in all situations.
We were picked up by our guide on time and nico was the perfect host for a wonderful day enjoying the beauty of maderia . We visited amazing sites with spectacular views .
Had a fantastic day out with Safari Madeira 4x4 Tours while on holiday in Funchal. We took the tour that focused on the east side of the island. Well worth it. The driver was funny, helpful and knowledgeable. ( Didn't get his name though. Sorry. ) We were picked up from our hotel too, which was good. We had time to explore a little at various stops and great view points. We met some fantastic people who were on the trip with us too. A great and funny group. Which always helps. So, in my opinion, a must do if you want to see various parts of the island you normally wouldn't see. So thanks guys. Ian & Sarah from England 🏴
From the moment Nico greeted us, I knew it was going to be a great tour. He was funny, comical, knowledgeable and attentive with all of us. He made us feel that he was part of the group as a friend. He exceeded my expectations and I strongly recommend to take this tour with Nico. He was an excellent guide, keep up the great work NICO!!! Bravo Nico!!!
Highly recommend this trip. Great way to see the island. Guide was first class.
John our guide picked us at our hotel entrance in the Safari Jeep! We chose to sit the back on the benches and it was great fun but you have a limited view at the back. When we went off road and we were able to stand it was amazing but you need strong arms to support yourself. Our guide John was so amazing, his knowledge of the Island was simply incredible, he kept an eye on us the trip and nothing was ever too much for him to help. We enjoyed visiting the West side of the island so much we immediately booked the East side of the island a few days later and hope we get John again. We would 100% recommend this trip.
A great day! The tour was wonderful and having the roof off the top of the jeep was so fun! Be sure to book the levada walk when they message you so you have the QR code before it sells out. The walk is super easy, but so cool and the view is great! Even added in a secret location because we had a little extra time! Definitely recommend if you don’t have a car to check out these locations!
Excellent experience as usual we always book madeira safari because they do what they say and the tour guides are always wonderful . There were 11 of us in two jeeps with Gabriel and his smiley friend who were just outstanding. Our friends had never done the safari before and are now eager to return and do the other tours.
Great experience with a wonderful guide - lots of different climates, views and off road fun. Nico was funny, and made the day special for all. Highly recommended!
Nico was such a great guide! He made the entire day fun and exciting (heavy on the exciting), while showing us the most beautiful views! Would definitely recommend!
Very nice trip around Madeira east coast, lovely viewpoints, taste Madeira wine and Afonso the driver and guide born in Madeira ,he has perfect knowledge of the island. We definitely come back !!!
Pedro was an excellent guide and made the day trip very memorable. We took our 3 year old and the company fitted the 4x4 with a child seat which was a nice touch.
Great tour, we enjoyed all the stops and the driver was very informative and fun! We recommend it!!!
Victor was fabulous - effortlessly speaking both French and English, he was both informative and fun! A great trip - lots of fantastic scenery, Victor recommended a restaurant for lunch and phoned our order to them in advance.
Absolutely amazing day yesterday, our guide Nelio was brilliant. The views were incredible, and the off-road section was great fun. Would highly recommend this experience, well worth the extra money vs a larger tour in my opinion. A great way to see the island.
We had a lot of fun on this tour! Every stop had something special and unique about it and the in-between driving (e.g. off-road) kept everyone well entertained! Very kind and enthusiastic driver, spoke excellent in English and French. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested to explore outside of Funchal, as the island is so beautiful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip. Our guide Pedro was friendly and knowledgeable and took good care of us throughout the day. We enjoyed the variety of places we visited during the trip and would highly recommend it. Thank you Pedro!
Great day out. Our guide, Nico, was FANTASTIC and made sure we all had a fun day. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful time! I screamed a lot 😆😆😆 Nico was a fabulous guide, so helpful. It will be chilly in the morning, 100% take a jumper and a light jacket but you can leave on Jeep when it warms up later in day. ESSENTIAL - book the laverda walk as soon as you make the Jeep safari booking pr11, for about 11:00, 11:30 am
An amazing trip. Our guide and driver Michael was fab and very knowledgeable of the area, route and history. He took us to some brilliant places I’d interest and loved the Lavarda Walk through the trees. Michael made sure we all had a fab day. Definitely recommend
We went on this trip as a family of four with two children aged 5 and 7, as we wanted to see some of the great sights of Madeira whilst keeping the kids from being bored. This trip was perfect as the kids were very excited to be going in a jeep, there wasn’t too much walking and the duration at each stop was perfect for seeing the sights you want to see without staying too long. My kids usually say they are bored every 5 minutes and they didn’t say that once during the whole trip. Madeira safari were great at keeping us updated through WhatsApp in the lead up to our trip. Our tour guide Gabriel great, he was very knowledgeable pointing out important landmarks and giving useful advice and tips throughout. For the kids the highlight was the off-roading when they were able to stand up and enjoy the proper experience. For the adults we loved it all. This trip is perfect for those that want to combine lots of mini experiences into one - to be up in the mountains, go on a short but scenic levada walk, taste the local rum and try authentic food whilst visiting the very pretty village of Santana and seeing some lovely sights. Would definitely recommend this experience for all ages.
Picked up from our Hotel at 9.00am prompt, we set off for our jeep safari and what an experience it was. Our driver/guide Nico (Nico was Loco in the nicest possible way 😄) led us through the various stops on the East tour with breathtaking sights. Special mention of the off road 'rock n roll' sorties, all 7 guests hanging out the roof, ducking to avoid the overhanging bushes to the soundtrack of highway to hell will live long in the memory. Great, fun day and definitely a highlight of our holiday. Dropped back at hotel around 4.30pm, tired but happy!
Nico the travel guide was superb and made our day. He fully got our 7 year old involved in the day and the energy and enthusiasm he brought rubbed off on our family of 4 and the 2 others in our jeep. The off road driving was so much fun!
We had a fantastic day. Joao was our driver- he was enthusiastic, helpful and very friendly. Plenty of coffee/loo stops! My main advice for you would be to take a hoodie/jumper as it’s cold going up the mountain. When Joao asks if you want boring or exciting off road part of the trip- go exciting-he loves that part and you’ll have fun! Great day out and well worth the money 😊
A great trip with a very knowledgable guide. Saw parts of Madeira you would not normally see. Well worth going
Excellent guide. Lots of value. I really enjoyable day out.
The tour was average. I think they try to stretch it out by adding a leveda hike which I was excited about & reason for booking. But when we got to the trail, driver told us to scan for our time slot & paid for our permit. Fully booked so we couldn't hike. Shouldn't this have been told to us ahead of time? So to stretch out the time, he took us to a coffee shop (after we all had breakfast). It's an ok tour if u want something inactive & just to see the other side as it is a beautiful island. Santana is cute but 90 mins to see 3 thatched roof houses? There's a lot of great food nearby for lunch but if you're not hungry, not much to see or do. Again, it's a beautiful island but the east side could've been done in 4hrs.
Excellent tour with a great informative tour guide Joze who took us to some amazing places and would highly recommend this company to see this beautiful island.
Very knowledgeable and skilled driver for this fantastic trip
The tour was terrific and John our guide/driver was excellent.
Overall, this was a fantastic experience. I would give it 5 stars except for the accommodations for the number of people we had (8 adults). The older but sturdy model jeep can seat 4 guests relatively comfortably. Additionally, there are 2 fold down cushioned bench seats in the rear of the vehicle which face each other. These cozy seats might be best reserved for 2 school aged or young teen aged people. Appropriate dress is also advised for the variable temperatures as you reach the higher elevations. That said, we had a great time as our driver, Victor made the day so enjoyable and one to remember! As an aside, the booking page could use some attention, but the operators of this tour were most pleasant and quick to respond to any questions.
We had an incredible time on our tour with Jose! We were able to take our time at all of the stops, and he steered us away from tourist traps at certain locations, which we greatly appreciated compared to other tours we have been on. He also added some special bonus stops on the way as it was a rainy day without views. My kids loved the part where they got to stand up during the off-roading, and the other groups in our car were very lovely. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this tour, especially with Jose, as it was a highlight of our trip.
Very friendly guide, great tour, just enough time when we stopped at multiple breathtaking locations. We recommend!
We did both the East and West tours and the East was definitely our favorite! Nico was an amazing tour guide and we spent quality time at each site. We found a cafe in Santana with the best carrot cake and really good coffee (O Moinho)! Definitely worth a try!
John and Milton were fantastic! Such a fun day on the jeeps. We saw the entire island and made stops along the way - this was the best way to see the area. Absolutely gorgeous and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Our driverJohn was fantastic. He told us every little detail about everything. He was also really funny and charismatic, and full of positive energy. He did his job so well that there is nothing to improve. You have to personally experience a day with John to really understand his greatness, and superiority over all living beings, which simply cannot be put to words. He really is the peak of human evolution.
Guide and tour were great. Only negative was the vehicle, which was old/clunky. There are other operators that are superior.
Our driver John was an awesome guy. He took us on a truly unforgettable trip trough the vast forests and tight roads of madeira. John allways had something interesting to tell, when talking about fruits he was a real expert. Allthough i dont know how he was surprised when i didnt know the names of the fruits when i come from finland, the land of ice and snow. 5/5🦍❤️
