Renato was very knowledgeable of the nature and culture in Madeira, and he loved sharing that with us. He was also a very good driver - not a small thing on Madeira’s winding roads. The tour felt a bit long, but it was much more convenient than driving ourselves or spending many days to see the different highlights of the west of the island.

Cape Girão (Girão Cape) is the biggest cliff in Europe. It is located in the island of Madeira, and it can be seen from the sea or visited from land to enjoy its fantastic views. This impressive cliff has 580 meters of free fall.
This village, whose name means Wild River, is located in the mouth of the river of the same name, between mountains full of banana trees and other crops. To know the reason of the name "Ribeira Brava" it is recommendable to visit the village at the end of autumn or in winter, when the river flows at full. During the rest of the year, its quiet appearance hides its true nature.
Encouraged, incredible view to the north and south of the island.
Porto Moniz is an amazingly cosmopolitan village for being located in the northern end of Madeira. You will find some amazing natural pools which have been enlarged to have an area of warm baths of marine water. The city of Porto Moniz also has interesting places such as the Centro de Ciência Viva Center and the Aquarium of Madeira Aquarium. After you leave behind the city, the road goes up, zigzagging along the great slope of the hill which dominates the village. Here you will find two amazing overlooks that offer some impressive views.
Seixal, located between Porto Moniz and São Vicente, is an excellent place to stop if you are traveling through the highway of the Northern coast of Madeira. From here you can explore the rocky coast and have a walk in the dock to admire the big cliffs and waterfalls which are on both sides of this little village.
São Vicente is a village located in the mouth of Ribeira Grande, almost hidden in the hole of a cliff, in the island of Madeira, Portugal. Its houses are set around the church and its environment is very initing with good cafes, hotels and numerous shops. The Chapel of St. Vincent Chapel lies on top of a rock in the mouth of the river.
Câmara de Lobos is a small fishing village and municipality, located in the west of Madeira, which owes a large part of its appeal to the little fleet of fishing boats, painted in rich colors. The fishing boats can be seen on the beach for most of the day.

Lineal our guide was brilliant, so passionate about his home, interesting & fun. He drove safely & the other attendees were all so friendly, especially to me as a solo guest. Plenty of interesting places, but sadly due to the dangerous conditions of the sea, I wasn’t able to swim in the sea pools. However, the crashing waves were spectacular. Thank you for such a memorable day
Great tour with Alex, very knowledgeable and friendly. we had a great time visiting some really beautiful places.
We expected it to be cold in the mountains it wasn't. Lot of great photo opportunities. Never felt we were pushed for time. Renato was an excellent guide, certainly knew everything about Maderia, very very informative. The mini bus was new and very clean, but a bit cramped if you had long legs.
We were picked up at the arranged time. Unfortunately the sound system wasn’t working properly so it was virtually impossible to hear the commentary. We were recommended a lovely restaurant for lunch was great value. The guide and driver were very nice. We saw all the advertised places and had enough time to explore them.
Most memorable: When it was over. The guide didn't engage with guests, didn't introduce himself or encourage interaction. It was a lot of driving and mostly short stops. The seats were uncomfortable and air conditioning didn't work well. It was so unpleasant that we cancelled our tour for the next day fearing it would be more of the same. The driver was skilled at handling the roads but we had the feeling he didn't like his job.
Beautiful scenery and great to swim in seawaters! Lovely guide Rodriguez but his facts differed to another guide especially in regards to Madeira wine! Kept us chuckling ! Tip after swimming: go to cafe near the drop off much better value than those at the top of the hill and free loos!!
Exmverything about the 2 days, it was spectacular and we had the best driver....a very beautiful island to explore and enjoy...
A good tour of Madeira's West. Sadly not via Encumeada despite the description on the website, but the tour guide was friendly, enthusiastic and cheerful. Fantastic fellow passengers made this tour a joy to partake in - and of course the destinations. Porto Moniz with its waves and rock pools is a stunning highlight on Madeira and one of my favourite places on this planet. Sao Vicente is beautiful, Ribeira Brava a great coffee stop, and the waterfalls are always delightful to behold. A brief stroll by a banana plantation was an unexpected addition to the tour (perhaps because we did not go up to Encumeada?), but it didn't add much to the experience to be honest. Not sure why the tour deviated from the description - maybe roadworks? The high road looking down on Encumeada is definitely an exciting experience, with fantastic views when the weather plays along. Poncha in Camara do Lobos was a suitably sweet way to end the tour. Value for money was absolutely incredible, as always with minibus tours in Madeira - you pay more for stressful, impersonal crowded coach tours in most places than you do for a relaxed, jovial small group minibus tour in Madeira. All in all, a good day!
Amazing tour thru a myriad of tunnels and along scenic routes to visit the beautiful sites of Madeira guided by a very knowledgeable, charming and funny driver Renato. Thank you so much!!!
A great driver who informed us well and was really pleasant to deal with . Made us feel very special . Small bus was nice and friendly . Well worth the money paid to see this beautiful Island.
Great to have a two hour lunch break at the seaside pools as allowed time to lunch at restaurant and swim / enjoy the pools. Driver was very punctual but could be a little abrupt at times in his interpersonal manner. Covered a lot of places though more information and history about each place would have been good.
My daughter and I really enjoyed this small group tour and our driver Charlotte was brilliant. Felt very safe with her driving and her commentary was very informative. The highlight was spending time in Porto Moniz and swimming in the volcanic seawater pools and then ending with the Skywalk at Cabo Girau.
Just returned from Madeira on the 29th Sept. Decided to do a West Tour using a local company and we weren't disappointed. Our guide Sergio Gama was absolutely fantastic. Started with a prompt pick up from our hotel and Sergio getting the group (7 people) introducing themselves which was a really nice touch. Sergio's knowledge of the island was exceptional and he went out of his way to share lots of detail. His sense of humour was also great. The tour covered great places which we weren't aware of; Madeira is a beautiful island with amazing sites to see. Highly recommend this company, you won't be disappointed!
It was a very interesting and nice trip. The guide was very attentive and competent. Madeira is an amazing island!
Madeira is a beautiful magical island but it is the guide on our trip that made the whole day special. Insights into so many places and flora and fauna, presented with style and charm and excellent driving.
Loved the natural pools, amazing views and interesting villages. Guide informative re natural fauna as well as history
This was a well planned tour that showed many beautiful areas. We had some complications due to miscommunication with our required completion time and the company worked with us to solve issues and enjoy as much of the tour as we could. I would recommend this company as an exceptional representative of their home with both the experience and their professionalism.
Wonderful tour around the west side of Madeira. Perfect amount of time on each stop, you could really enjoy all the places. On the way to each stop the tour-guide/car driver provided with very interesting information in Portuguese and perfect English about all the places where were headed to, as well as things we passed on the way. He also offered to help couples take selfies. The different places were really beautiful and each had its charm. But Cabo Cirao and swimming in Porto Moniz was definitely the best ones!
Porto moniz - to little time - 3 hours in total would be better, so there is time for a Swim and lunch.
The glass walkway at the sea cliffs of Cap Girou. The micro climates ranging from verdant misty mountains to sunny coasts.
Madeira is a great island with a wonderful array of flowers and other plants. So we booked the western tour of the island with "Feeling Madeira". Apart from nature, most impressive was our guide, Renato, who really loves his job. We have learnt so much about Madeira, its history, its natue and life on the island. This made the trip an unforgettable experience. Greetings from Berlin!
From the moment Alberto picked us up we instantly warmed to his polite, friendly and hugely knowledgable nature. The day was a wonderful experience and was thoroughly enjoyed by all via his, at times, funny but professionally delivered information on past and present Madeiran history. Thank you Alberto for our joyous, shared experience.
Our driver Alberto was very friendly and informative the tour was great value for money what a fantastic day we had . Thank you Viator
I really would NOT recommend this tour to anyone. The guide kept repeating himself and going on forever about plants and about unkept plots of land. Absolutely no fun facts about Madeira, just repetitively pointing where the crops were. His commentary also gave the idea that everything in Madeira apart from Funchal was essentially a wasteland. So gloomy and boring! The views were nice and the north west is definitely the most beautiful part of the island but the experience was tarnished by the frankly bad guide who although nice, did make the experience feel endless (in a bad way). If you choose to do this tour anyway, just for the Porto Moniz natural pools, make sure to pack your lunch because all the restaurants and cafes are extremely crowded and expensive, leaving you with no time to experience the pools (like maybe 30 minutes). The pools are 3 euro and you have to wait in line for like 15 minutes. The bus we took was full and one of those really old ones, which is fine but got extremely hot and is VERY slow. I would personally pay more to have a 4x4 tour or a private one and avoid this one unless you’re very passionate about plants and crops.
Great tour, we saw a lot of sights and some things we hadn't seen before. As it was out of season, the main pools were closed in Porto Moniz but the old natural pools were open. Great views of the valleys and small villages.
I did 2 tours with this company last week - the west and the east tour. Both guides were brilliant (Renato on the west tour/Patricia on the east tour) and had a lot of stories and information to share. On Madeira quick weather changes are possible and so it can happen, that you can't visit some places on that day, because of safety reasons. And that's where the experience of the guides pays off, because they always have a backup plan, that is as good or maybe even better than the original plan. I had two amazing days - thank you!
Amazing tour of the West Island. This is a lovely trip where one can experience the gems this island has to offer
Great tour! Our guide was Renato. He gave us lots of interesting info on the island and its history, explained the different plants and flowers on our way and was overall very fun. All the spots on the tour were beautiful and we fully recommend it. 😃
Excellent guide (Renato) A brilliant, knowledgeable guide. He made the tour. Would not hesitate to recommend it
We’re really happy that we chose this tour! Renato is a fun, flexible and caring guide who points out lovely details and tells great stories. He even took us back to a viewpoint in the afternoon after it was too foggy to see anything in the morning. At Porto Moniz we had some time to swim in the rock pools. Overall, we were able to discover and explore the island in a satisfying way! Really good value for money.
Our guide was very informative, telling a lot of details along the way. The driving from Ribeira Brava to Porto Moniz on the small mountain roads was an experience itself, the views were breathtaking and we also did some stops to take photos. At Porto Moniz there was enough time to enjoy the amazing pools with no rush. We did not visit the natural pools of Seixal that were in the tour plan, that was a disappointment. All in all I would say this tour is value for money, if you want to visit the natural Pools in Porto Moniz and also see how does the northern coast look like.
The landscape was stunning some of the most dramatic I have seen. The driver was very courteous but I had hoped he would have told us more about the history of Madeira. Excellent value for money
Nice driver, Paulo and Mathilde, great services and a lot off intresting places from the eiland. Small bus.
Really well paced tour and our host/driver, Renato, struck a great balance of information and easy humour. We chose this trip because the itinerary promised a longer stopover at Porto Moniz and we really wanted a decent amount of time to swim and enjoy the lava pools there. In the event, we had nearly two and a half hours there which was just perfect. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend this tour.
Renato was the best guide you could wish for during this tour. Not only did he show us all the nice places in Madeira and give us a lot of nice info about everything, he also made sure that all the travellers needs were met by slightly adjusting the itenary where possible. Be prepared for some really good 'dad-jokes', but especially a day to remember! I would definitely recommend this tour. Be sure to have the time, because you might be back a little later and you'll want to enjoy everything.
The west tour was nice. It was really cloudy so we drove by a lot of cool views without stopping :( it was nice overall but really tourist focussed. We missed the local warmness we got from other tours.
We really enjoyed most of the tour and exploring the beautiful island of Madeira. We saw some amazing views and places. Our tour guide and driver Denis was nice but a lot of the information he gave was about the plants and after few hours it got really boring. We would have appreciated more details about the natural pools (where to go, what we need, cost), economy, culture, etc rather than only plants and trees. Also, there were a lot of small stops for photos which was nice but there were few that were not needed. The last stop of the tour in S. Vicente was not necessary -nothing to see there. We were told that we will be in Funchal at 5.30 but we didn't get back to our hotel until 6.30pm which was inconvenient as we had plans and we were late.
We had a really good guide. Renato's English was very good and he gave us a lot of interesting information about Madeira! It's a really good tour to get to know the West side of the island. There are a lot of beautiful viewpoints and it's nice to have a swim in the natural Pools in Porto Moniz! Would definetly reccommend!
Where do I start? Renato is a natural. Probably the best tour guide you will ever come across. Professional, courteous, jovial, knowledgeable and patient. He is Madeira bottled. From kestrels and starlings to local fauna and farming, he knows EVERYTHING! His jokes interspersed with local knowledge made the day immensely more rewarding. One of the best tour I have ever been on and recommended without hesitation
Great tour with amazing tour handler. A lot of very interesting information about Madeira. Very good plan of the day.
what a fantastic day touring the beautiful island of madiera renato such a great tour guide really informative and professional. Being so far up in the mountains literally felt like you were on top of the world with breathtaking views and stunning backdrops would highly reccomend to get a feel for the island .
First class driver cum courier who made this a memorable excursion for all in bus especially for wife on her 80th birthday. Thank you Madeira . John&Ute N.Somt.
Good tour and itinerary and our guide / driver Casper was great. Would recommend. Gave us a good general feeling for the area and covered all major sites.
I booked the tour to the West/North of the island and it was simply amazing! We travelled in a comfortable minibus with a group of 5, pickup was directly from the hotel. Our tourguide Renato was very professional, knowledgable and friendly and made us enjoy every minute of the tour. The diversity of the landscape was stunning and my expectations excelled. Highly recommendable!
Easy operation. Picked up outside cruise terminal and back on time. Small group. Only 8 people. Breathtaking beauty. Knowledgeable guide who is a native. Free time all along the way. Advice on where to eat, where to shop. Safe driver. Highly recommend. Same tour as offered on the cruise except this had 8 people and the ship had a big buss full. With a big bus you only move as fast as the slowest person and have as good a time as the most miserable person on the bus. We 8 people were much happier than the big buss tour.
The tour was great. We were picked up on time at our hotel and the previous communication ran flawlessly. Our tour guide Eduardo spoke German and told us many interesting things about Madeira during the trip. We drove to all stations, which were also in the description. I found it very positive that Eduardo explained the flora and fauna and asked us in one place or another if we wanted to get out and take a picture. The lunch break in Porto Moniz was long enough for lunch. At about 5pm we were back in the hotel. Thank you for the great organization.
We had a wonderful all day tour with Renato. We saw a large part of Madeira beginning in the port of Funchal and ending with a taste of poncha at the Taberna Poncha before heading back to the port. Renato was a wonderful guide. His knowledge of life on Madeira, agriculture, and overall history was very insightful and entertaining. Thanks again for making our day so memorable!
The beautiful trip the friendly and fun guide both in Portuguese and in English experience thanks Horacio
We went on a mini bus, uncomfortable, tight and the air conditioning was never on. The guide was friendly. I do not recommend, I still prefer big buses.
