The staff at this hotel were exceptional. Christina, the manager, went beyond for us and even started are dead car battery. The continental breakfast was large with lots of variety. The location was close to restaurants, shopping, and local attractions.
I recently stayed at Pestana CR7 Funchal. The room was comfortable and it is centrally located. Mid way through my stay, a party erupted outside my window at 4 am. It went on for three hours, making it impossible to sleep. At 5 am the hotel moved me to a room across the hall (not facing the street) that they said would be quieter. It was not quieter, and I went into my day of activities exhausted. The hotel offered to move my room again, but they could not guarantee there would not be a similar noise issue on other nights. To ensure I had a more restful rest of my vacation, I booked a hotel in a quieter area. I requested a refund for the remaining nights and was told they could not do that. I have stayed at Pestanas in the past, and this was the first time I have been disappointed. I would not recommend this location.
The most wonderful holiday! The hotel is fantastic. The rooms are nice and clean and the view from the balcony is just awesome. We have been absolutely spoiled by the staff who just cannot do enough for us. Very welcoming and incredibly friendly. A special mention to Cesar for being the best pool man/bar man and all round top man! The same for the manager Eduardo who has made our stay here the best we could have imagined. Thank you CR7! Both the hotel and Mr. Ronaldo himself. Outstanding!
Such a poor menu with very few choices. The rooms are not clean at all and quite decadent, especially the bathroom, which is smelly and old and mouldy. Several spots in the room have been amended with common-use, brown, tape on black surfaces. Its position to the city center might be the only good thing about this accommodation, although it is extremely far from all the activities of the island, such as hiking, scuba diving, quads and so on. I wouldn’t recommend it if you would like to enjoy this island as it is. Additionally, the sauna does not work, it is not hot at all (i wonder why they call it “sauna”) and the swimming pool is small and it faces the main road (on one side). Additionally, there is a bar in the swimming pool area, which would be useful if some staff were actually there to help you with some drinks or just as a lifeguard around the pool as many kids have been staying at this hotel. The gym is an outdoor one, although one would imagine that it would be equipped nicely and thoroughly given its owner, it is barely functioning with such few options and space available. Overall, given its price, location, amenities and overall quality of the building itself, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, couples, families, friends. There are so many other options out there. If you are interested in visiting CR7 museum, do so, but I would choose a different accommodation if I were you and not be fooled by the name of the place.
Stayed 7 nights and although the hotel has a lot of plus points, there are some gaps for a real 4 star hotel. Firstly the + points. 1) The breakfast has excellent choice on the buffet and offers a cook to order service. Excellent omelettes ! 2) Welcome and friendliness of the staff. 3) The view from the pool deck of the harbour and the town. 4) Easy and pleasant 15 minute walk to the town and good restaurants. 5) Easy parking in the underground garage - but no discount for hotel guests so 15 euros per day. Negatives. 1) Noise. The rooms with even numbers are near to the road which is on of the principle routes into / out of Funchal. Some complain about noise from the casino which is up on the hill but I suspect this is not as bad as it sounds. The rooms with odd numbers overlook the harbour, so there is something interesting to watch. BUT rooms from 125 onwards are above the terrace of a restaurant bar which is not part of the hotel. It is extremely popular and noisy and open until late. It seems at the weekend until the early hours of the morning. The people talk loudly above the background music and their kids are running and shouting. It is great for them… but not if you are trying to sleep… Rooms from 101 to 125 should be better. Unfortunately … this is not under the control of the hotel… 2) Some gaps in the service… we had a problem with the batteries of the safe and asked that they would be replaced. 3 days later the safe was still not working. We were entitled to a bottle of wine with our reservation. It did not arrive. Normally other hotels we have stayed at it is already there on the first night. We had to ask 5 times. In the end it becomes a point of principal.
