We’ve just had a weeks holiday here. The location is perfect. There are many wonderful walks, restaurants and shops in all directions. Our room was very clean. The staff we met were all very helpful and friendly. The pools were well lined with loungers and we always found fab spots to enjoy the sun. We thought it was very good value for money.
Great breakfast and cater well for gluten free; pleasant staff; and great location - seafront and only a 15 minute walk into the city centre. The one minus is permitting smoking outdoors in the hotel and on room balconies. I think the hotel is missing a trick here but I'm sure they'll rectify this in the near future. Special thanks to Graca in the breakfast room. She works very hard and has excellent people skills. Also many thanks to all the other members of staff, who gave help and assistance during our stay. It was most appreciated.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is a beautiful place with amazing views. We stayed on the 18th floor in a room with a city view, and the view was absolutely incredible. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the city-view rooms can be quite noisy at night. There is a club nearby and the music was playing until around 6 a.m. every night. For us, it was honestly very difficult to sleep. So if you are sensitive to noise, I would definitely recommend choosing a room with a different view. The breakfast was one of our favourite things about the hotel. There was a huge variety of food, everything was fresh, and the selection was changed and replenished very often. The staff were also amazing — always very polite, friendly and helpful. And having breakfast with a view of the pool and the ocean was just perfect. The location is also great. It is close enough to the city to walk there, and there are plenty of restaurants, cafés and other places nearby. The hotel itself also has several restaurants, so you have plenty of options without even having to leave the hotel. The biggest disappointment for us was the gym. The hotel website says that there is a gym, but in reality it is more like a small cardio area with about five machines. We were expecting a proper gym. For us, this is quite important, so unfortunately it is one of the reasons we are not sure if we would come back. If the hotel had a fully equipped gym, it would make the experience much better. Another big plus is the free parking. It is subject to availability, but during our 8-day stay we were lucky enough to find a space every day, so we had no problems with parking at all. Overall, we had a very good experience. Beautiful hotel, fantastic views, great breakfast, lovely staff and a really good location. With a proper gym and better soundproofing for the city-view rooms, this hotel would be almost perfect.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Pestana Carlton Hotel in Madeira, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. What made our stay particularly special was how the hotel went above and beyond for my wife’s birthday on 15 August. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. On her birthday, they surprised her with a beautiful cake during breakfast, complete with candles for her to blow out. They also made a lovely arrangement in our room and kindly offered us a bottle of sparkling wine. These thoughtful touches made the day truly memorable and showed just how much the hotel cares about its guests. The breakfast was amazing, with a great variety of choices, and the service from all the staff throughout our stay was above and beyond what we expected. Everyone we encountered was friendly, professional and genuinely helpful. The hotel itself has everything you could want for a relaxing stay, with excellent amenities, a beautiful setting and a wonderful atmosphere. It was our first time staying at the Pestana Carlton, but it certainly won’t be our last. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special and for helping us celebrate such an important occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Madeira!
Brief: We stayed at the Pestana Carlton for just short of two weeks, this was our first stay here and in Mareria. Location: The hotel is well located for visiting the marina and old town with good placement for Taxi's, both the Red and Yellow bus ans having access to a private pier (with dive centre) There is also easy access to a small shop that has anything you'd need, a coffee shop with bakery, ice cream shop and finally a pharmacy. Travel: 40 minutes drive to the airport 10 minutes to the marina 10 minutes to the closest shopping mall and also large supermarkets (not that you need them with the small supermarket opposite) Room: We stayed in one of the apartments and it was lovely and large with a great balcony, view and general size. The room has great amenities and utensils. Noise: the room was shielded from the road which was nice but we were also directly under the new bar area which had music on every night this meant between 8-11PM you couldnt hear yourself think as it was VERY LOUD. Cleaning: This is the one area that really let the hotel down, we were here with some family members and both our rooms had the bare minimum done. (The balcony's weren't cleaned for over a week *until we complained*) After the complaint Cleaning seemed to go back to expected standards. Food: Breakfast was clearly the focus for the hotel and had fairly well stocked options (pancakes, fruit, omelette etc) but we did notice once an item run out it was done, (for example they run out of Nutella 4 days ago and its still missing) equally muffins and a few other items are still missing) Dinner: Dinner had a fairly good selection BUT there is clearly where you notice the focus on the older as there is only one dish on (what seems to be) the kids area or hot area. They do have a good selection of ice creams for the kids with cones. As for service and drinks price its hard to justify, we spent ages trying to flag people down and the pricing was quite steep. Pool bar: This is where id say the hotel does well, it has a good selection or drinks and food with a good variety of choice and good value meals for kids and adults. (Honestly of we could we would have just eaten there) Overall: The hotel is well placed clean and lovely. The pools are a good size and the dive centre and location is a boneus for diving and snorkeling. The few weak points are the lack of child coverage and general room cleaning. If your a young family I'd consider maybe something more child friendly, if you're a couple and/or older generation i think you'll be quite happy here.
