The room is OK … yet hotel has only a 15€/night parking, no WiFi in the room, no mini fridge working, no shampoo, smell is strange, and very basic breakfast with ultra processed proteins. Also, the receptionist is nonchalant and not communicating kindly. So for few nights: OK, but never meets 4-stars hotel characteristics.
Good sides: Location is fairly good. Beds are comfortable. Pastries and fruits on the breakfast menu are ok. Bad sides: Rooms are not cleaned properly (contrary to what the hotel says in some of the replies). E.g. when we just got to the room, there was someone's hair in the shower and on the tiles of bathroom floor and walls. It did not improve much during the following days. Ocean view doesn't apply to every room. Our room was a bit over the street level so not much of a view and also keeping terrace door open was not an option as there was always noise from the street or sometimes smoke from the hotel barbecue which was right bellow our terrace. Room also had strange (moldy?) smell and due to above mentioned details, we couldn't properly air it and had to rely on AC unit. While pastries and fruites from the breakfast buffet were ok, other savory food had slightly strange taste (like it was outside of fridge for too long). All in all, I am surprised that this is categorized as 4-stars hotel. If you don't plan to spend any time in your room except for the sleeping time and don't care much about cleanliness, you might try it. Otherwise, find some other option.
Wonderfully comfortable 4 -Star hotel. Beds are sumptuous and all rooms benefit from sea views. We've enjoyed our short stay immensely
We had a wonderful stay here. It is very close to the waterfront. The staff were very good to us, particularly the gentleman we used to see when we left for.early morning activities or to catch early morning flight...in all my visit to Portugal (mainland and Madeira), that gentleman is the kindest and warmest person we ever dealt with. Sadly, I didn't ask for his name, but, if he were to read my review, I would like him to know that his love is very very very much appreciated. Hotel parking is hard to come by. So, we targeted finishing our activities before 4pm...that way, we always got some parking spot. And thanx to the hotel, parking is free. If you are from North America, know that, like many places in Europe, the parking is very narrow, so you have to sharpen your driving skills 😉
Great value hotel, we had a sea view and glad we paid the extra for this as such a beautiful view. We paid for breakfast one day, then wished we had included this option when booking, because it was good value with a great selection, and because it was difficult to find breakfast locally unless you wanted cake and espresso. The hotel is tired, but in a good location on the Lido, for the money we were very content. There are bars within 10 minutes walking distance and sea front within 15. A lovely roof top bar nearby too. We walked into Funchal during the day (1.5 hrs), but buses are frequent and nearby if preferred.
