We have just returned from our second stay at this hotel. Fabulous in all respects. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Advice and help is always available. Location is ideal for view and access to transport- the hotel runs a courtesy coach; bus stops for the local service and both Hop On/Off buses within two minutes walk away. Restaurant buffet at breakfast and dinner of excellent quality.
I’m really disappointed with the hygiene standards at this hotel. Unfortunately, the room and bathroom were not clean and felt neglected. The bathroom in particular was very unhygienic. The glass bath screen looked extremely dirty, there was visible dust on top of the light fixtures, and the hairdryer looked outdated and poorly maintained. The hand wash bottle looked like it hadn’t been replaced or cleaned in a long time. There was also a strange buildup of what looked like oily dust in the corner of the bathroom door. The bedroom wasn’t much better. The nightstand and headboard were dusty, and there were visible cracks in the walls. The skirting board doesn’t sit flush with the floor, which seems to have allowed insects in — I encountered ants crawling around the room and on the table, and my friend even found an ant crawling on her bed. I watched them coming from under the skirting board, so it wasn’t due to an open door or window. At one point, I had to ask reception to spray the room with insect repellent. The kettle was also very concerning — it looked extremely old and had rust inside, which is completely unacceptable. The cups and surrounding area were, again, dusty. On top of this, the WiFi was very poor. If you’re expecting stable or fast internet, you won’t get it here. There was also a serious privacy issue. One time, there was a knock on the door and as my friend shouted “who is it?”, the door was already being opened. She had just come out of the shower and was in a towel in the bedroom area. Staff did not wait for us to respond or open the door ourselves, which is completely unacceptable — she could have been naked. While the staff were friendly in general, cleanliness, maintenance, and basic privacy standards are essential and were not met. Breakfast was also underwhelming. The eggs were clearly powdered and poorly prepared — more like a jelly consistency than proper scrambled eggs. Overall, I would not recommend staying here. Cleanliness, safety, and overall standards need serious improvement.
Our first time to Madeira, the hotel was great in a good location with lovely sea view and ideal for public transport buses on main road also used shuttle bus into Funchal but most of the time we walked, the forum shopping centre a short walk away with a good supermarket lots of restaurants,bakeries,ect..Reception staff very helpful and friendly, cleaners came into room everyday bed made towels changed and the buffet breakfast was really good plenty of choice. We used the indoor pool only once bit cold shame the sauna was out of order, and the hotel had a gate with access to the lido and coastal walk which was great! Would definitely stay here again also nice and quiet.
Lovely location, very quiet. fantastic views. About 10 - 15 mins drive into Funchal. Bus no. 1 or 2. Hotel operates a free limited shuttle service, however, doesn't seem to operate on public holidays
